Is it a Developer Edition or an AT&T model? The AT&T model doesn't have an unlockable bootloader. The dev edition does, and therefore you can flash the dev firmware onto it.

I had thought you could unlock it through the tool online?

AT&T Moto X's do not allow for the bootloader to be unlocked.

Super lame

[Q] Unlock the bootloader AFTER root.

I know that the bootloaders are locked, but can you unlock it after you get root?
I know that they're working on root exploits, and I helped test somethings today for the VZW version.
Would something like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.segv11.bootunlocker work or something similiar be made for it?
If you can have root access without unlocking the boot loader that would be beneficial. Means your warranty is still valid for me I'm screwed as my boot loader is unlocked

Not without some sort of boot strap. Like safe strap or boot menu.

Is anyone working on an unofficial bootloader unlock/lock so we wouldn't lose our warranty?

Ok cool, thanks brudda. I have the Dev Edition for Verizon so I guess I'm gonna have to go to the Moto website too.

To my understanding is that No It doesn't. When you go to the Moto website and go to the unlock your bootloader area and then find your phone. Once you click on that it gives you the whole deal on what you are about to do is going to void your warranty. Go figure, they make a phone with the ability to unlock the boot loader for just that specific reason and they still void your warranty. Lol

Where's the development?

I was thinking about getting a Moto X due to having an mf3 locked down bootloader. However, it looks like the development is completely dead for this device. Is the bootloader completely locked down for the AT&T version? Just wondering why these forums are so dead. What about rooting with 4.4.2? Thanks

They're dead because the stock software is just that good. There is no real need to hack it up because it's fine as it is.
That's what I figured.. Is there any problems with rooting 4.2.2?

Use RockMyMoto for 4.2.2. Use SlapMyMoto if going to 4.4.
So with the new 4.4.2 slap my Moto works perfectly rooting the phone?

Not officially but there's a couple of Rom's that are based on 4.4.2

Yes, but he's asking about root. If he's flashing 4.4.2 ROMs, he's already rooted and it's a moot point.

[Q] Need and official T-Mobile Rom for AT&T Moto X

I have a friend with an AT&T Moto X. He is selling it and offered me a good deal on it. It is already unlocked (I know I may need to unlock it again if I change roms and such but I assume his code may carry over and I don't mind buying an unlock code if needed). I am very interested in the phone but would prefer to have the official stock T-Mobile rom on the phone. I can install a custom bootloader if necessary, but I cannot find an official T-Mobile rom for the phone. Does anyone know where I could find the official stock T-Mobile rom or know how I can switch it to the T-Mobile rom from the AT&T rom? Thanks
If it's an AT&T Moto x, then you can't bootloader unlock it. If it is SIM unlocked once, then it'll stay that way forever. If it has a locked bootloader, then you can't really install a rom on it.

I thought I should stay unlocked. I had read a few posts from people suggesting it might have to be redone though, so I wasn't sure. So It is stuck with the AT&T rom for good then I presume? The only reason I would have a desire to change the rom would be to take advantage of a perticular T-Mobile app, which I can get on the phone anyways. Would there be any notable problems that anyone knows of with using an unlocked AT&T Moto X on T-mobile?
I am using one right now and it works fine. The only possible issue is if you're in an area that hasn't had a network refarm. In those areas, you can only get 2g instead of 3g. It has the same LTE coverage either way.

My AT&T Moto X is bootloader unlocked. Cost me $40 to get the code. There's quite a few threads being posted about it. I'm using it on T-Mobile right now. Once it is carrier unlocked, it stays that way. Same with the bootloader. I get LTE on T-Mobile.
It's well worth the $40 to unlock the bootloader. You can root, install roms, and pretty much do whatever you want to your phone.
Side note: I don't think there is an official T-Mobile rom since the T-Mobile version is the unlocked GSM version.

Okay? I was answering the OP's inquiry about a stock T-Mobile rom, and like I said, there isn't a T-Mobile rom since it's a gsm unlocked version. I don't know why you quoted me with dev images?
I read where people have flashed this to att phones and gotten it to work. Sorry didn't mean to quote you

If it is not on 4.4.2 already, you can root it and use a SafeStrap ROM. If it's on 4.4.2 already, you're out of luck. I don't think AT&T has sent out the update already, so it probably doesn't have 4.4.2.

[Q] Ineligble to unlock bootloader?

Just picked up my Moto X 2014 on AT&T today and the motorola website won't get me my key. What's the deal?
Did you get the AT&T variant? You can't unlock the bootloader on it. You would have to get the Pure Edition from Motorola.

So there's no way to get a custom rom and root? Stuck with this bloatware? That's seriously disappointing.
There is root using Mofo. Check it out here http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/general/noob-guide-rooting-verizon-moto-x-2014-t3097375. It won't unlock the bootloader but will give root. It also doesn't disable write protection do you will lose any changes made to /system after a reboot. But it's all the carrier versions have right now.

Ok soo my phone hasn't got any updates past Android 4.4.2, all the other 1st gen Moto X's got 2 after that. Motorola keeps telling me to contact my carrier but there's a slight problem with that. Alltel was my carrier but they got bought out by at&t so I switched to h2o. My Moto X is carrier unlocked tho, how would that affect system updates?

No update has been push out for my version of the X tho. It makes no since why they tell me to contact my carrier, because mine doesn't, have a carrier logo on the back nor does one come up when you turn it on. The system version says something about acg. I looked at a chart on Motorola's website, under acg regional carriers it says 4.4.4 "coming soon" its really confusing
