Surprised no one has mentioned it.

Trust me, its more then a bug update So far the biggest notable changes:
Support for new Chromecast V2 API
New Homescreen/Images
Initial support for some sort of "screen sharing" protocol
And lots of other little things here and there.

Screen sharing as in mirroring what is on your phone screen? That would be an awesome addition!

Sounds like it's limited to OEMs (which is probably a security measure)

Screen Sharing: could be related to new 4.4.1 Kit Kat that has Cast option under display?

I think its related to miracast displays. Used to be wireless display under menu options. But maybe something will be different with new CC build... I tested with Pwned.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

From the dev groups discussions at Google, it looked to me that it would be like Miracast but not.
Iow, they aren't making the Chromecast a Miracast receiver, they're addressing methods in the cast APIs.

So is this build Rootable?

"Rootable" as in, "If my Chromecast is on this build, can I root it?" No.
"Rootable" as in, "Will there be a new PwnedCast ROM based on this build, for those who already have root?" Yes, if all goes as planned. Team Eureka is already on the case.

My cc is still on 13300. Don't know when will get the update.

Mine just updated right now and looks slightly different from yours.

Got the update, haven't tried any apps (Netflix, pandora, etc) yet. The new screen looks better but I wish they would provide support for your own pictures. Sure wish that SDK would be released....

I noticed on mine that sometimes my network name and signal strength shows, sometimes it doesn't - no big deal, it's connected for sure, I was just mildly surprised.

The Chromecast app is only used for setting it up (changing WiFi settings, etc). It was never used in the function of the Chromecast itself.

are they rolling out this update in batches, as I still haven't received the update yet, still on 13300.

I restarted mine in the chrome cast app then it updated

I feel it smoother too and they said they will catch up with the desktop version in early next year. Yay!
It is still a slow rendering resource pig.

Still no plugin support and that's most disappointing. If they really do make a full desktop browser experience it will be welcome with open arms. As it sits now, I want nothing more than to filter the crap ads that permeate every part of the internet, without the need of a separate app that may or may not work without rooting.

Still the only Android browser that doesn't have an easy to access History option. Utterly bizarre that they hide it away and you need to enter an url to get to it.

I'd just be happy if they fixed the thumbnails on the bookmarks widget not showing up. its been like that from the beginning. How do they not notice that? Sometimes i wonder whether Google employees actually use android devices.
Although to give them their dues, page rendering seems a lot faster on the new update. really noticeable for me.
For me, the chrome update has made a world of difference in loading times. I was using opera mobile because chrome was so slow, but now chrome is flying past opera. Don't get me wrong, it's not flawless, but the loading speeds are what matter most for me.

Still giant rendering issue ..when using some heavier sites scrool faster and you will see onlu white background ..that does not happen with ASOP ,mahton or Naked browser..And no flash just makes chrome for me no go..there are lot of sites that i use that are in flash..like online picture editors that are much better then any app on android and with bluettoth mouse is so much easier ..also most of video sites are still i flash and that wont change soon.

Weird issue for me with the new Chrome: Tried opening a website last night on it and it told me I needed to set a proxy server, then provided instructions on how to do that but only applicable to the desktop Chrome. Opened the same website via Firefox Nightly and it was fine.
Chrome update has been a lot better for me. It used to be very slow and calculated. Now I can zip around pages.

AW: Has Anyone figured out how to use camera remote
You need Android 4.1.2 on GCam and Remote Viewfinder for GC out of the Play Store
Within your camera menu under share you have to enable remote viewfinder and then connect your android device to the cam via wlan and start the remote viewfinder.
And next time, please use the search function of the board.

As I mentioned in the other thread (I created yesterday), the unreleased beta of the app works much better with the GC.
He is adding video features to it right now and then will re-release it to the store I guess.
You install the same app on both devices and select camera or remote mode on the two devices. (or you use a web browser to control the camera device).
The thread was just a heads up that it has been fixed and will be re-released soon. It works quite well for me.
The author has not given me permission to post the beta here. Maybe send him an email and ask for the beta?
He was very friendly and helpful.

[PORT]Rockchip has Split Screen support

Just seen this on the wire and thought how awesome it looks.
Rockchip is a chinese chip manufacture that powers devices like the popular MK808 and other handheld devices. Looks like they've been busy as today they announced they have a Split screen solution similar to Samsung that runs on Stock Android, except it can run any app.
Oh man does this look yummy.
How likely is it that we will get this on the Nexus 7?

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, But Samsung implementation seems to only be custom apps that work in window form, but this seems to be a framework implementation?
Meaning this should work well with all Play Store apps as long as they followed the Android development guidelines and have a tablet UI. (fragments, panels etc)
Why is this thread has a PORT prefix in the title?

Because it would require a port from Rock chip devices to our N7.
This seems really cool because the Samsung required specific apps where here, he used anything, such as the stock settings app. So it should work with any app.
Plus I like how they all control and flip back and forth. Really nice.

Saw this on Android police and the implementation of gestures, Window resizing, management etc was nice and it's better than Samsung's Multi Window feature.
Wish this gets ported to custom ROMS soon.

Hopefully in the final release it uses the phablet layouts when in split screen. Ideally it would recalculate screen metrics based on the window size.

The rumor has it that Paranoid Android team is developing something like this. In fact CM team had tried to publish their version of multi window(project Cornersrone) but Google wouldn't let them. Multi window is totally possible to make for N7 and whatever modern android device. In near future!

Quite frankly, in the era of 1080p displays, there should be multi-window baked in to the OS. It's a feature that I think would really propel Android forward.

To be clear, this allows you to cast any video or audio, FROM a CM phone TO the Chromecast.
When i read your post, i imagined that i could cast TO my CM phone...

Game. Changer.
Unless I understand it wrong, none of these 3rd party apps and tweaks are going to work for us (non-developers) until Google starts whitelisting apps. I think each app needs its own specific whitelisted key by Google in order to make an app talk to the Chromecast.

I fell into the same trap; I want to use an old tablet I have laying around as a chromecast receiver. While this isn't that, you kind of buried the lead: media from any app is castable, that is amazing.

The function will be built into CM so you wont have to root the chromecast, now you have to unlock and root your device to install CM so as long as the build you install supports it you should be good to go.

I don't really get the appeal of this. What's the point of casting something on one android device to another? Why not just play it on that device you are casting too? Of casting to an HDMI stick doesn't make sense, just play the video/ audio on the HDMI stick.
