Hey everybody,
I just got the VZW moto x developer edition from the cyber monday sale. I unlocked the bootloader, and just wanted to confirm how to root. All I need to do is follow the toolkit/pwnmymoto, correct? I wasn't sure if there was a separate process for rooting the dev edition.
Thanks much!
If your bootloader is unlocked why not just install twrp and just flash the supersu zip?

There's no financial cost to unlock your boot loader, its free.

Thanks for your reply.
I was going off a FAQ in the General section
Please note, In order to flash any custom Recoveries, you need to have unlocked Bootloader. Barring the open Bounty, the only viable option right now is to buy an unlock code from Motorola.

Motorola does not charge you for the boot loader unlocking code, the only cost is your warranty if you do not have a developer edition.

You can only unlock on VZW and AT&T if you get the developer edition, and the cost is $50 more than the standard device.

So if you just get the regular one, you are stuck with the stock ROM?
Also, is it possible to get the VZW dev edition? I just went through the whole Moto Maker process and didn't see anything about developer edition.

Developer editions aren't eligible for MotoMaker.
The unlock process it free, but as mentioned, it is not currently possible to unlock a non dev Verizon or Att model and the Dev models are not available through Moto Maker. If you're looking at another carrier then VZW or ATT you can unlock from what I read, but since theyre not DEV editions you lose your warranty.

I'm pretty sure they're referring to the SIM carrier lock. Correct me if I'm wrong folks.
I have a Verizon Dev edition with my boot loader unlocked. And I did not have to pay for a unlock key.

I'm not going to go into the reasons why, but Moto does NOT give out the bootloader unlock code for the Retail and MotoMaker X for Verizon, ATT and a few other carriers. There was this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/verizon-moto-maker-bootloader-unlock-t2680651 on purchasing an unlock code from a 3rd party source via Chinese web site, but it has not been available since April 1. And we don't expect it to be available again.

"Dear guys!"
lol
First off I apologize if this has been answered. I have spent a great time searching but has not found an exact answer to my question.
I recently purchased a Verizon Moto X developers edition off Swappa that has the 4.4.4 update with the intention to root it. (For the wifi hotspot)
I know some of the updates have closed some opportunities to give it root, but is it still possible to give the device root with this latest update?
Thank you everyone for your time.

If it really is the Dev edition, all you need to do is unlock the bootloader and flash twrp which will root it. See the one stop shop rooting thread in general - it will point you in the right directions.
If it is not a Dev edition, there is currently no way to root.
Good luck
What did you search for? I find it odd that you weren't able to find any info on how to root a developer edition.
Lmao
No.
Is the Moto XT1097 with the android version 5.1 able to he downgraded. Thanks for any kind of answers at all. Been looking at different sites and all kind of tutorials. Still haven't found any answer to my questions. Thanks in advanced.
Here is my riddle?
I got a moto XT1097 bought from at&T in America with the 5.1 android version. How do I root it? Is it worth to even downgrade to try and root it that way . I know for a fact the boot loader cannot be unlocked. OEM Is one that can not be unlocked. Thanks for any advice, help, anthing at all. Been wracking and researching away to root it and all of my roads lead to a headache.
The AT&T xt1097 cannot be unlocked. You can root with MOFO if an updated 5.1 image has been made for your device. Since your device cannot be unlocked, you cannot downgrade.

Thanks. I do not have the 5.1 image for my device at all. When I bought the phone it was updated on the spot. I know for sure right now these versions are not rootable. Guess I am going to have to wait or root. Thanks for the help.
