Is there a chance that the Moto x will receive the 4.4.1 update? Might it fix the poor battery life issue?

after going through the long change log, i saw alot of fixes. my guess is we will see some speed and battery improvement.
I would think Moto may hold off on releasing 4.4 to the other providers now and instead move to 4.4.1 directly.
Just use 4.2.2. What is the big deal with 4.4....especially if the battery Sucks. Right now I'm at 20 percent left with 1 day 3 hours on battery and over 5 hours screen time. What on earth can 4.4 offer me to give that up?

I get that... But one of the main factors in my deciding on the Moto X was the great battery life I read about. And lucky me it came to be true! And no way I am giving that up to have a newer Android version that really brings nothing to the table I care about. Lol
But yes... I get the need for the latest and greatest. Btw... My N7 is still happily on 4.2.2 as well.

Battery is fine on 4.4. I would love to get that update. I hope the x wasn't a one trick pony in regards to update. It was on 4.2.2 for awhile. Maybe they were already working on 4.4 for long but there's a lot of good bug fixes in that .1 update.
My X before exchanging got 7+ hours sot on WiFi and over 6 regularly on mobile with T-Mobile on 4.4. I don't have anything to compare because I never used the x on jb.

I have never used my X on JB as well. I regularly get 10+ hrs from my Moto X. This is regular usage such as phone calls, text messages, and checking other apps. As I am still on unlimited data, I very rarely connect to Wifi. I have found that if I put the display on Auto, the battery lasts a great deal longer. The AMOLED display is great and active notifications are great as well. When I first got the phone, the battery would last 7-8 hrs but adjusting the display helped extend that.

My Moto X went nearly 3 days last week when I wasn't using it much, and the rest of the time when I am using it heavily, I get great battery life on 4.4.
Guess the pics work now. Lol sorry for all the repeats.

I haven't had any real issues with battery life, or anything to complain about with it. Also, I don't know why people say that 4.4 doesn't bring anything good. Maybe there is nothing front and center that you get, but the base system has a lot of updates and changes since 4.2 to improve things.

I have been hyped for this phone since I heard about it and ive been extremely tempted to get rid of my nexus 4 and grab this phone, the camera issues seem to be over exagerated from what i can see and some say that the nexus cam is bad and I thought it was okay. Any thoughts from anyone using this phone coming from the nexus 4? The main draw for me is battery life, Im lucky if I can get 15 hours of battery life total, with maybe 1-2 hours of screen on time..
If you're OK with the nexus 4 and its lack of LTE, stick with that. This camera has been frustrating me with its lack of exposure control/focus. I'd wait to see how they're going to improve the camera before ditching the N4. If had both and I think the only reason the Moto X wins is Verizon's LTE coverage.

I never had the Nexus 4, and I'm certainly no camera junkie, but I love this phone. I came from the Galaxy Nexus, so any phone is an upgrade, really. I was happy with the gnex camera, and I'm even more happy with the Moto X camera.
Get the Moto x and never look back. My n4 is now an mp3 player. Moto x battery life is insane and the phone is much smoother than the n4.

My main concern is battery life, what were you guys getting on the n4 vs the x?
I can double screen on time versus my nexus 4

I haven't yet decided whether I should go for the Moto X or wait for the next Nexus and see what's coming up.
Tough decision
Im very much leaning towards getting one on sprint tomorrow if best buy is going to pricematch amazon when I go to get rid of my old iphone tomorrow. I just have one last question, does the moto x have a notification LED or is it purely done with the active notifications?
It is done through active notifications no LED

I haven't been getting that at all. Yesterday I was at 13 hours on battery 2 hours of screen time with 3% left. It is almost exactly the same as my Nexus 4. I don't play games or watch videos either, pretty much just texting, hangouts, whatsapp, Reddit.
I had to go pick one up today, So far I think this thing is amazing, I love the feel of it and I actually like the vibration on it. If this battery is as good as everyone says ill be thrilled.
I'm a n4 owner thinking of going to moto x too, for the battery life and better optimization and amoled screen non pentile.
Just pulled the trigger on eBay for 495.00 with a case and protector. The moto website kept placing holds on my credit card but not putting the purchase through so I gave up on Motorola selling it to me. My n4 is going to the wife and she is a happy camper to be switching from her nexus s. Looking forward to checking out this device soon

You can ask this question about any new device that comes out. Would you upgrade from your current phone to a newer phone? And my answer is that if your current phone does everything you need it to, then there's no point in upgrading.

N5 pros over MotoX
- colourful LED notifications
- strong dev community
- processor
Moto X pros over N5
- everything else
So unless those few things bother you, just stick with the Moto X
If the Nexus 5 releases with a larger battery option I will be all over it.
If it has the same size battery as the moto x I will not be picking it up.
This phone has me absolutely addicted to all day battery life.

Am I the only person here who couldn't care less about what version of android the X gets updated to? The phone is perfect as is. I bought it for the features it was advertised to have, and Motorola delivered in spades. From this point on, if it never receives another update, I will still be just as happy with it.
Switching seems a bit crazy, but if I didn't already own the Moto X and wasn't majorly dissapointed with my Nexus 7, then yeah, I'd probably go for the Nexus 5, since I think it looks nice and its cheaper. Either way, I already own the Moto X and I'm very happy with it.

I agree. 4.3 was an incremental update and 4.4 barely more than that. On this device I doubt either update will really make much of a difference... Not that I don't want them, it just doesn't seem important when the phone runs spectacularly as it is. That's the same reason I don't care about the lack of development.

Yes, processors aren't everything but the N5 with out a doubt has a better CPU and GPU and will have a better dev community which will lead to a better working phone. Active notifications are awesome but only if you're near your phone. If your phone is charging on a desk a couple of meters away from you and you hear it vibrate how will active notification tell you what happened?

It still flashes on screen every few seconds if you have a new text, email, missed call, etc. The only time this feature auto shuts off to my knowledge is at night (configurable) and when the phone is in your pocket or face down.
Besides all that, I'm sure the N5 will be a great phone with great support, however the chances of it coming to Verizon are slim to none so its not even an option for a lot of us.

You wont be able to tell what it is. With an RGB LED you can set different colours to represent different types of notifications.
Anyway, I keep hearing everyone say Verizon has terrible phone options. What's so special about Verizon that you guys stay (I'm from Canada)?
Verizon has the best signal, but has a soviet union business model and is expensive. However it works everywhere. Only reason I stay is cause I use my phone for business. My bonus is sticking 20+ gigs to them every month
I currently have a Nexus 5 and compared to a friends Moto X my screen isn't nearly as nice and the speaker is horrendous. I'm thinking about reactivating my Verizon unlimited data account and using a developer edition Moto X on it but I have some questions.
1. Who updates the Dev. Edition Moto X, Verizon or Motorola?
2. Will my Google Wallet app work like it does now with my Nexus 5 and allow NFC purchases at "Tap to Pay" stores or does verizon block that even on dev phones?
3. A bit off forum but if I use Google Voice texting, can I delete my $30 texting package on Verizon? I heard GV texting uses data only.
Thanks guys n gals!
1. Verizon
2. Yes, works on non-dev phones too
3. Sure, why not?
If you don't install custom roms, don't mind the slightly lower quality camera, and willing to sacrifice some performance especially in 3D gaming, then the Moto X may work for you. I think if you get the Moto X be intended to use stock firmware because it isn't as flexible as Nexus. The Moto X will have better battery life than the Nexus, I usually get 5 hours screen on time.

While I continue to say that my, wife's now, Moto x is the superior phone overall....especially for those that just want a great working phone....and aren't flashaholics......I must say, I was fearful of the battery life drop switching to the N5....but after some usual tweaking.....I'm allllllmost matching my Moto x battery times. 26 hour average with 6 hour screen time. I was surprised for sure after things I read.

I like the AMOLED of the X more, the speaker and even the vibration. Touchless controls is nice, but the real killer feature is ActiveNotificatons. It's more than fast enough.
I recommend a trade

You can try to sue every other manufacturer while you're at it too, lol. You didn't actually think Nexus was the first to "stretch the truth" in this way, did you? They can put the devices in low powered operation that normal users would never attempt to get those numbers
The 14 hours that Anandtech got is much more realistic and still that is with extra niceties all disabled.

These numbers are based on the device running 100% stock and with 0 non stock apps running services in a very good service area if not on wifi.. so essentially the perfect storm.
People are consistently getting their N5 and other devices to over 5 and 6 hours of S.O.T. so I can see it being totally plausible to see insane spec times on a tablet with a much bigger battery.

My N7 2012 goes about 6 days with 6 to 7 hour screen times. But it also sleeps with a drain of less than 0.1 percent per hour. I think it's cause there's hardly anything on it....everything is off, it stays on wifi constantly, and has no radio. I think if it were the 3g model, and not in airplane mode....the radio at least would drain it a bit more.
But yeah....batteries can do much better than most phones currently have. Standby drain will always degrade tho with more features running and radio signal strength for sure.
Can't see phone battery life getting much better than say an lg g2, or Droid maxx or something. Unless the phones get even bigger or battery technology improves so you get more bang at a smaller size.
Guess time will tell.

The demand is certainly there. I think we're seeing more of a focus on battery life with current phones. By using fast CPUs and LTE radios tasks can be completed and get to idle much quicker than before.
Where I'd like to see more progress is from software developers. Many apps and games are draining more than they require and don't focus on optimizing.

Verizon and at&t owners won't get updates.
Me instead of you don't take the update since a possible root exploit could come sometimes and taking the new update isn't that smart.

I feel as the moto x lags when I'm using it over my iPhone and I have animations turned off, force rendering and nova launcher with faster than light set. Tbh I'm an iPhone guy though.

How is the call quality on 6s? I used a 5s before but it's not as good Moto X 2014 ( I'm not a native speaker so i can tell the difference )

It has really good call quality and we're going to get volte soon so the call quality is going to be better as well. But this is a moto x thread so I'm not going to talk about the iPhone anymore. Anyone know any update on root for this device yet?
