[Q] How to remove AT&T Address Book - Moto X Q&A

Hi.
I bought AT&T Moto X from Motorola.com (XT1058) and unlocked it. I'm using the phone on other carrier in other country. But I have a very annoying thing - when I start People app (Contacts) AT&T Address Book jumps in and starts loading. Then it fails, shows me some stupid text with "OK" and opens my contacts. And I have the same thing every time I start People app (if it's unloaded). Needless to say how it's annoying.
XT1058 version has bootloader locked and the phone isn't rooted.
Is it any way to remove this **** (AT&T Address Book)?
I tried:
- go to Settings/Account - there's an account "AT&T" there but it cannot be removed or disabled
- go to Settins/Apps to try to disable ATT Address Book - it can't be disabled(!), 'disable' button is greyed
Please help.

It's a part of My AT&T and is not a register but the system application. You can't remove it without rooting the phone, you can only disable it. But unfortunately the disturbing AT&T contacts remain in your address book.

go to settings - apps - all apps, select all ATT apps and for every of them clear cache, data, force stop and disable them. Also install Clean Master to remove the remains of obsolete applications. But be very careful with it, don't remove anything you are not sure what you are doing.

thanks for your help, but as I mentioned in the first post that 'disable' button in "AT&T Address Book" app settings is disabled. Other at&t apps can be disabled (myAT&T and something abot VoiceMail) (and actually does) disabled.

Just have got root via RockMyMoto method and uninstalled all three apps (My AT&T, AT&T Locker and Adress book) in free version of Titanium Backup.

Turn off request to access internet?

I have the ATT Tilt and I'm sick of it asking me if it's ok to connect to the internet everytime I run an app that uses it. I tried to find something to turn it off but have been unsuccessful. Any ideas?
Thanks!
What program are you using that is asking?
Google Maps, Citi Mobile, Opera Mini, Gmail app, umm, basically anything that isn't an ATT prog.

This is the notifications. Go to Start->Settings->Personal->Sounds & Notifications->Notifications.
Check "Connection Established" and unchecked Display Message on screen. This should resolve the popup.
No not the pop-up, the actual screen that says it's an untrusted application, might cost airtime blah blah. On my D807 one of the options is to allow and only ask once but here i only have to ask next session or next time (as in everytime it tries to connect while i'm using it). Not a huge deal but it's pretty inconvenient...
These sound like java apps.
Yep, those are all java
You say all non-AT&T apps. That's not true. Its only Java appsthat have this...
To do that, you have to do some hex editing...Search for a thread for the Opera Mini browser. THere are step-by-step instructions there to get rid of the prompts, at least in that program...
EDIT: Here's a post I put together to explain how to do this, as simply as it can be explained...

Need Help Badly : My Phone is LOCKED

I use pattern to unlock my Galaxy S, but my son played with my phone and accidentally input too many patterns and make my phone only can be unlocked by signing into google account.
I typed my correct gmail user name and password, but still can't sign in and unlock the phone. I am also using APN ON/OFF application, and the APN status is OFF. I am thinking maybe it makes my phone unable to connect to the Internet and sign in to gmail.
Is there anyone know how to solve this problem without resetting the phone into factory default? And if I need to factory reset my phone, how can I do it because the 3 button combination is not working with my Galaxy S?
I'll be grateful if there is someone who can help
Many people have had this issue to some extend, most of them simply reflash the phone since that fixes it.
I remember someone wrote that you somehow could bypass it, sadly cant seem to locate the post anymore.

found it.

Try to put your gmail login info from all different gmail account you have.
Also try this. Take out battery>wait for 3 hours > but the battery back > press power button for 20 seconds (This method was listed by one guy on other forum).
One guy also mentioned this method.
AGAIN ITS the lamest thing you could ever think of, anyway heres how it goes,
1) Log in to your google account on your pc, the same account you registered for your phone
2) After logging in look at the top right corner of your inbox/email page, it would say your google username. Like say if you name is John, and you have a google id thats registered to your galaxy s as ,[email protected] Now this google id on the top right corner of the page would be displayed [email protected]
3) Type in the google id, thats visible on the right hand top corner of your page ([email protected]) into your galaxy s handset locked page, and type in the password.
TADA AND YOUR ON TO THE NEW SCREEN TELLING YOU TO PUT IN ANOTHER PATTERN.
Thanks
Zoh
If you cant login by computer then go here
HTML Code:
https://www.google.com/accounts/recovery
...And if you don't remember your secret (recovery) question then try the following method (check the link)
EDIT: you can also try this (very helpful to lot of ppl with the same problem) http://www.docstoc.com/docs/39761478...d---Locked-Out
Any way try all the methods and let me know if it works...BEST OF LUCK

this solution is with thanks to another person on another site...
You need a WiFi connection available for this to work!
1) Call your phone from a different phone.
2) Answer the call. While still connected...
3) Hit the BACK button on the phone (the arrow softkey)
4)This takes you to the home screen (it might take a few attempts, it depends on your timing. It took me 4 attempts)
5)Drag down your notifications bar and turn the WiFi on if it isn't already.
6)Close the notifications bar then hit the MENU softkey, select Settings then "Accounts and sync".
7)Click "Add Account" and select Google.
8)Sign up for a new google account as normal.
9)When the signup process is complete (and it must successfully create an account) you can hang up the call. (Do not sync the accounts)
10)Now when the phone asks you to unlock it using google credentials, use the ones from the account you just created. It will now ask you for a new security pattern, then for the same pattern again to verify.
11)Once you are back into the phone, turn off this "feature" until Google release a fix for the bug.
12)You can now delete the "false" google account which you just created from the phone. You should log into google and delete it from there too really.
13)Now reboot your phone. When the phone starts up and it still says "Phone Locked" don't panic!, Just drag the screen out of the way to unlock the phone, just like you did before you activated the pattern security.

T-Mobile DIGITS

Anyone activated DIGITS and tried out the app on S8 yet?
If so, what are your impressions and annoyance?
I signed up for the beta back when it started, just put it on my Verizon iPhone 7 (work) and it works flawlessly.
On the S8 there is no additional app needed, it's all integrated into the stock ROM. The dialer and SMS apps let you choose which line you want to call or text from. It also tells you what device made a call. Works flawlessly.

Yep, i was on unbranded firmware which was missing the Multilines settings, so flashed back to official TMO firmware and now everything is seamless without a hitch. Enjoying DIGITS although I don't have plan to carry 2 numbers.
Where are you guys finding the multilines setting? I have an S8+.

If Digits is enabled for the line, you'll find multiline settings under Cloud and Accounts.

Cloud and Accounts. You can enable it in there and then your Dialer & Texts will display their respective icons & number. S8+ as well

Thanks for those instructions. Unfortunately, I don't have that as an option. Perhaps I should call it a day (waiting and hoping for a root solution) and update this puppy.

My apologies. I should have included the fact that there is a known issue with the location of those settings on the S8/S8+. Another manager in my district activated Digits, rebooted his S8+ and the Multi Line settings disappeared. I along with him & others have reported it to the Digits team and apparently there is an OTA update coming to address it. In the mean time they've suggested using the Digits app for those having issues.
I'm on the AQC9 with all updates blocked and it's working flawlessly so I'm not sure where the issue resides

I have the s8 and the gear s3 and digits works fine without a problem didn't have to set up anything on the phone. I have 2 lines one for me and one for the wife.
I just wish I could put my S3 line into digits.
Ok I work for T-Mobile and I know how to make the digits multi line setting appear. It's a process though so get ready.
First you have to log in to the T-Mobile app. So if yoiu don't have it or deleted it download it again from Play Store. Log in and hit the menu button > usage and plans. You should see a button that says to unlock digits. Click it.
A message will then appear telling you multi line has been added. But you need to restart your phone for it to show up. It will be in clouds and account in settings.
I can't upload any screenshots as mines is activated already and the button goes away. But after thatnjust sign in to your t-mobile account.
Now FYI!!!!
You need to have someone registered as the PRIMARY ACCOUNT HOLDER ON MY.T-MOBILE.COM BECAUSE WHEN YOU ACTIVATE YOUR DIGITS NUMBER AND PUT IT IN. IT SENDS A REQYEST TO THE PRIMARY ACCOUNT HOLDER TO ALLOW THE NUMBER TO BE USED ON THAT DEVICE! IF NOT YOU WILL GET STUVK WITH A "WAITING FOR APPROVAL " MESSAGE FOREVER AND HAVE TO LOG OUT AND STSRT THIS WHOLE PROCESS OVER. ADDED A PAH AFTER WON'T SEND AN APPROVAL TEXT.

I know, two months late here, but I'm wondering if you ever got that figured out. I've done the same with an AT&T phone (TMB/TMB/ATT) and can't get the multi-line to enable. Using Shortcut Master I can get the Multi-line config to launch, but trying to sign-in to my account just gets me a screen that says "Updating Multi-line settings... Please try again later."

Hey, yeah I did manage to get it to work. Had the same issue, using Nova I could get to the multiline settings but no options actually worked. I ended up swapping my sim into an actual T-Mobile phone that has digits integration (S7 edge), then unlocking it on their website for Digits to work, and then swapped it back, and I got the little popup saying that multiline was enabled. Seems like the sim has to be provisioned.
I like the Digits Apps for Windows and MacOS. Its like having iMessage. The only issue I've had is that text sent from the PC don't show up on my phone. Still nice though I can send and receive text on the PC. I can also make and take phone calls.

Help!!!! Huawei login id/huawei wallet

So i decided to try and see what is Huawei wallet, wasn't sue how it'll work as i don't have NFC on my version. Once i installed it, it keeps on coming up every time i unlock the device. So i cleared all data and took away all permissions from the app, plus i signed out of my Huawei id. But now every time i unlock the device i get a login to Huawei id. when i use task manager it isn't showing up there, and when i go to the app the only option i have is force stop. But i go back out unlock the device and the same blue screen with login id comes up. It's annoying the heck out of me! how do i stop this from coming up? Is there any way to disable/uninstall this app?! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Wow, I thought it was bad enough having to ignore the "login to huawei" message I see at the top of the settings page, and which i'm never going to use.
So, no one?

a funny workaround is actually to enable the "Digital Balance" and allow the Wallet 0 screentime.
In the Wallet app, go to settings -> about -> slider to stop the app.

No background sync on any email apps besides Gmail

I am trying to sync my corporate Office 365 account email with my G6. Our IT department does not allow us to use the Outlook mobile app or Gmail for corporate mail. No matter what app I try the account will set up fine, the initial email sync will work fine, but then no new emails will show up in the app unless I either open the app or open the app and perform a manual sync. I am using an unlocked Moto G6 on AT&T. This is happening on wifi and on 4G. I have tried probably 10 different email apps all with the same result, including Blue, Edison, Nine, Aqua, Type, etc. Gmail and all non-mail apps download in the background with no issue. I've tried enabling/disabling all notifications for the apps. I've performed a factory reset twice now. I am not a tech person and am running out of ideas. Motorola support indicated that I should be using the Outlook app (which is not permitted).
Any suggestions?

It's very strange...I open the apk file on the phone, it asks "Do you want to install an update to this built-in application?" I click Install, it installs. I click Open, it does nothing. I don't see anything new in my list of all apps. Maybe it's a limitation of the unlocked G6, oh well. Thank you for your suggestions.

It's already in /OEM. But it's likely disabled by config XML . The only way to modify that is with root access or TWRP custom recovery. All of which requires an unlocked bootloader. I imagine if your company restricts what email apps you can use, they would frown upon an unlocked bootloader.
