what do you mean by "Zip Backup"? the backup is a folder called something like "2013-mm-dd-hh.mm.ss"
and that folder should be placed in /data/media/clockworkmod/backup/
if it's a zip you downloaded off the net, then unzip it on your computer first, then push the folder to above location.

Its recognised as a zip on my PC although it cant be unzipped with 7zip or WinRar. if you go to manage and restore back ups in rom manager it lets you download a folder to your pc, cannot for the life of me figure out how to push it back to the phone so it can be recognised though.

1- what do you mean it can't be unzipped? where did you get it from
2- never used rom manager so no idea about that
3- use "adb push 2013-mm-dd-hh.mm.ss /data/media/clockworkmod/backup/2013-mm-dd-hh.mm.ss" to get the backup onto phone

Hey all, I'm currently in RA after flashing the recovery image , and I'm trying to install the FRESH rom on there but for some reason when I try to "Flash zip from sdcard" it's telling me "No zip files found." Why is that? I have the whole zip folder placed in the main SD card, so why is it telling me it's not found?

I responded to you on http://GeekFor.Me, but the reason is because RA looks in the root of sdcard, the zips can't be inside of any folders.
So does that mean I have to take out all the individual files and place them directly into the root of the sdcard? Because I just basically copied the download folder and dropped it into the root. Thanks for the reply

You need to leave the files in a .zip, but yea that zip needs to be on the root of the sdcard.
The only file you need to install the rom is fresh-cdma-hero-20d.zip (for fresh rom 2.0d). Any other zips are just addons or tweaks or whatever they may be.

Hmm, I'm on a Mac and maybe it's me but the link I download from gives me an actual folder rather than a zip. And when I rename the folder to a zip, it gives an error. Is there a mirror link to download an actual zip folder?
Boogie when you download it dont opening after it finishes downloading .. just use the finder to navigate to where its at and then copy that to your sd .. when you open it on a mac it will automatically create the extracted folder .. hope this helps ...
Sounds like your using Safari to download it. To make this easier in the future go to Safari > Preferences > General and make sure that "Open safe files after downloading" is NOT check-marked.
Safari is unpacking the zip file for you. The file you want is in your trash bin, drag it to the root of your SD card and that's it..
Ok I'm gonna give it another go. Since I made it all the way through to the RA stage, there's no reason I shouldn't be able to flash the rom is there?
Thanks for all the help everyone I finally got it to flash the FRESH rom, but once I rebooted it, it's still in the "HTC" branded screen. Is it loading? It's not going anywhere but this screen, although I know it's doing something because the animation shine is moving.

After flashing a new ROM, it can take up to 10 minutes or so to load.
Nice Everything is all good! Now my last question is how do I get the removed apps from the ROM back onto here? I actually prefer to have some of those programs back onto the phone.

There is a link in the release notes to download all the removed apk's from Fresh Rom. You will then need to use adb push to push them back to /system/app. Search for how to setup adb on a mac as I honestly don't know.

[Q] help flashing rom captivate

im trying to flash paragon rc5. i follow the instructions, but when i go to choose sd card... and click on paragon.zip as file to use in clockwordmod recovery manager, it loads okay, then says replacing recovery manager and reboots. what did i do wrong?
To flash rom you should boot into recovery, select ingersoll zip from sd, choose zip, select parogon, confirm, done
Well when i do, it acts like its going to install, but then says "replacing recovery manager with clockwork..." then exits and reboots into the normal recovery screen.
Each time i get into recovery it is the normal one. I have to go to reinstall packages to get to the clockworkmod one. Something tells me thats not right.
Could this have happened because i installed rom manager and it didnt say i needed it?
Sounds like you are flashing an update.zip to get clock work recovery. i think you need to confirm you downloaded the correct file
What happened was i installed rom manager, got recovery manager through it, then downloaded paragon and its update.zip file. So am i basically flashing the recovery manager right now?
Sounds like it, are you on stock?
Paragon rom zip should be like 170mb in size
Rooted, but otherwise stock. Have already wiped all my data on it in preparation.
What im trying to do is this- have update.zip and paragon.zip in main internal sd folder. Go into recovery---reinstall---then it loads clockwork, then go to from sd---choose--- and if i pick paragon.zip it still does it.
let me clarify this, basically you do not need rom manager here.
1. download the update.zip and put it in your sdcard root folder;
2. download the rom file (170mb one) and put it in your sdcard; not necessary to be the root folder;
3. suppose you are on the stock rom; shut down your phone and use key combo to get into recovery mode;
4. apply the changes (i remember it is the second option), you may need to do it twice. you should now be in the cwm;
5. use the menu in the cwm to browse and install the rom file
6. reboot your phone. done.
Boot phone up normally. Delete paragon file you have. Redownload. Like I said the file should be like 170mb.
Update.zip goes in the root folder? Where is that? I couldnt find it anywhere....
The file is about 170mb. I know thats correct, im thinking since i had already installed cwm i moght have screwed up.
when you select reinstall packages you should go into green recovery/clockwork recovery.
If that works boot phone, open rom manager, select install rom from sd, select paragon
check the attached file.
Thats the update.zip i have. Now where do i put the damn thing?
Your internal sd card. Dl to phone, go to my files app, open dl folder find file select copy, click paste. Should now be where you need it

Transfer system files to external SD card?

My motherboard is toast, I bought a broken phone on ebay and switched out the motherboards but it isnt working. Phone works fine but wont recognize sim card or connect to network. Its just a camera/wifi device atm. So anyway..... I can still get the old motherboard to kinda work enough to play with it, the home buttons dont work or the power button and sometimes freezes up. Is there a way I can put the old motherboard in the phone and copy the system files to the external sd card or computer, then wipe the new motherboard and copy the files from the old mb to the new mb? I believe I have tried everything else but if anyone has any suggestions Im all ears
Thanks!
The easiest way would probably be to take the motherboard you're wanting to pull stuff from, hook it up (in the phone), and via USB in ADB do something like this:
adb pull / \backup
That would create a folder at the top level of your C: drive with all the contents of the phone on it. You could then move all of that to the new motherboard.
(That would probably be something like:
adb push \backup /
but I'm not 100% sure on that. You may have to do a more one-by-one procedure.)
when I try to push the backup I get this message....
failed to copy '\backup/acct/uid/0/task' to 'acct/uid/0/task' : Operation not permitted
Sooooo what did I do wrong??
Also I couldnt find where it saved the backup on my computer.
Ok, found the backup folder on my c: drive but what do I do with it now?
Bump cause I still havent figured this out Seems like I dont have the correct permissions in adb.

If you typed in your backup like what you wrote above (\backup/acct/uid/0/task), it's likely that you're running into an error because you flipped your slashes midway through.
The backup folder needs to be in the platform-tools folder of the ADB installation, as that's where ADB pushes from.
Once you have that, reboot into recovery mode. This may not be 100% necessary, but I usually find that pushes work better from there as the file system is (usually) read-write.
Then, try this:
adb push \backup /
(You may have to switch the slash before the word backup so it reads /backup, I'm not 100% sure.)
If that doesn't work, drag an individual folder out of the backup folder to the main platform-tools folder and type:
adb push /acct \
You'll have to repeat that for each folder, but it should work.
If all that fails, you can try to make a CWM flashable zip file. I don't know exactly what the procedure is for doing this, but I would guess that the answer exists somewhere on this site.

Actually what I typed was adb push \backup / then it gave me that error. It stored the backup folder on my c: drive, I will move it to the tools folder and see if that works. Going to go search on how to make a CWM flashable zip file now. Maybe i'll give that a shot too. Thanks for your help.
So If I am getting this correctly, I take the custom ROM I have flashed to my phone and then I can add my system files to to the system folder in the ROM I can then flash the ROM again and it will install all my files?
In theory, yes, that should work. All the CWM update file does is write the files inside of it to the folders that the updater-script file tells it to.
Again, this should work IN THEORY.

Titanium backup update.zip question

Where is th update. Zip file located
I creaed update.Zip file but im not able to find it
Its located in /sdcard
i still not able to find it
when you create the update.zip file, and it's finished, the notification bar will have a notification about the path, check that. If it's not there, may be the zip was not created successfully.
/mnt/sdcard/update.zip
Was this solved? I can't find the file either.. it's not in the root of the sdcard, I've tried to create it twice and searched for it. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.
dont you get a notification of completion of the process and when you pull it down, you can see where its located ?
I'm having the same problem. If I look with root explorer, it exists on the root of the SD, but I can't see it in windows? Maybe it's a 2GB file limit thing or something?
but the update.zip is not more than 4MB

Yeah, I tried to make a smaller one, and it's still there but I can't see it in windows. I tried renaming it as well and that didn't work either.

Answering my own question - its definitely located in the root, just not visible in Windows no matter what I do. Use a root explorer to grab it and move it to a flash drive or remote network location, that's what I did and it worked great.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I used wifi file transfer. I was able to download the file from there.
I had this problem. Try simply unplugging your phone from the USB cord, wait 5 seconds, then plug it back into your PC. Your PC should now see the update.zip.
One of common prob's with MTP !!
just do a search in root explorer, i got 4 locations of the same file on my galaxy s3 so you can find it in anyone of those.
and yes it is the same file in all of those locations, i even tried to change the name on one of them to check if all of them changed and they did
/data/media/0/update.zip
/mnt/sdcard/update.zip
/mnt/shell/emulated/0/update.zip
/storage/emulated/0/update.zip
Move the file out of the root directory and put it a folder, any folder. It will then show up on windows.

This worked for me! Although I used the stock file manager. After moving the update.zip to another location using file manager, I was able to see the file via Windows as well.
just change the file name and retry. worked for me
C:\> adb pull /sdcard/update.zip

Transferring data, etc. to replacement phone

So i had to get my N6 replaced becasue the top speaker was all wacked out, so i got the new one and hope someone can help me (i know there will be ) first i'm trying to copy the titanium backup files, i keep getting an error on certain files saying "cannot copy, device has stopped responding or has been disconnected" when clearly neither of those things have happened. I am on stock rooted & unencrypted. I tried searching but found no answer to this..
Just created an update.zip but when i look on the computer, i cannot see the file..
how are you trying to copy the backup files?
I usually copy it to an online storage (dropbox/box etc). Make sure you download and restore it to your new phone before wiping/returning your old phone.
I'll try dropbox, what i did was had it create an update.zip which contains apps+data so i could flash it in recovery on the new phone. I can see the file with root explorer on the sdcard, but when i plug it in to the computer i don't see the file..
I'm trying to drag the tibu folder to dropbox and it won't do anything...

Are read/write permissions set on the file/directory?
Try moving it to your phones "Downloads" directory and see if it shows on your computer? Enable "view hidden file types".
rwxrwx-- the only part not checked is where it says others..
Edit: I tried checking the boxes next to others and it said permissions could not be changed..
