Touch screen lost control when charging - Moto X Q&A

The phone works fine when on battery.
I plugged it in today to charge and tried to use it as the same time. The touch screen appears not working properly.
1. Swipe down goes to quick setting. No notifications will be shown, no matter what I tried.
2. Pressing on icon is not precise any more. There is a shift to the left about 1-2 icons (pressing a in a b c opens c) but it's not consistent (for example, pressing a in a b c d e can open e).
Unplug and back to normal.
I am not using the packaged charger and cable. Instead, I ma using the set from my BlackBerry at work.
Any chance this can explained?
Thanks

The power adapter is likely defective and should be tossed. It may still charge but is also putting out tons of noise which is all kinds of bad for the phone, and maybe even you.

The solution is changing the charger because that may not compatible with your mobile or damaged. Be careful because the battery will get damaged

not used
i have used motorola charger which is coming with mobile and also used another motorola charger but issue not resolved.

Then try to reset or reflash. If the problem persist then there will be problem with that mini USB port

Get a better charger, revert to stock if you're on anything custom. See if charging from a PC makes any difference.

[Q] tytn ii battery issue

hi guys,
when i power on my kaiser (with the stock rom) and the phone gets to the welcome screen i can hear a dead battery sound and the phone powers itself off. tried hard reset, flashing a new rom, changing radio, buying a new battery, charging battery using charger wires..nothing seems to work . If i flash a new rom like wm 6.5 the phone shows me radio version, protocol version and rom version ( R G D ), the light dim's and the phone shuts down.
when i connect the charger a yellow led turns on..i left the phone charging for one whole day but the light is still yellow
any solutions? thanx in advance
go look for the exe file called powerdetect.exe this is a small program listed in the TytN II service manual that is used to check the battrey health. I suspect the batt needs to be replaced.
the battery is ok. i've tried with several batteries and the result is the same
What charger are you using? Motorola v9 charger wont do. I had similar power off issue when starting up a unused unit. Only able to charge with original charger 5v 1000ma. OR try charging it through the PC USB port. If you have a notebook, just leave it in sleep mode for overnight charging
I've got a similar problem but usually when i make or accept calls the phone switches off
My phone is a Kaiser 130 which runs on 5 volts but the battery i got with it (bought it on ebay) is Kais 160 which runs at 3.7 volts???? Also the mains charger i got with phone is a 5v.
I just did a power test using the program below till the battery was dead and then plugged into my laptop to recharge and within 2 mins battery is up to 72%???
can anyone who has a Kaiser 130 from new tell me the original battery voltage and code please
power detect download is here if anyone wants to download

every kaiser has a 3.7 volts battery..are you sure the phone turns off when you make or receive a call? My guess is that only the screen turns off (sleep mode - same as pressing the red button) because your ear can touch the screen and acces random menus etc

are you sure? ..'cause i spent a lot of money on a new original battery later to find out that the problem isn't from my battery..don't want to do the same with the flex cable..i found one around 40 €
which flex cable are you talking about? Do you have a second unit that you can do a part swap to see if it is actually the cable issue?

Hi Giany,
had a battery problem not the same as yours by the sounds of it but solved it by installing the orange shipped rom which comes with radio.
might be worth a try.

I have the same issue... .-(
The phone just switches off completely with any hint of longer usage (phone call longer than 1 min or so, garmin mobile xt barely makes to searching of satellites). I use original stock ROM.
Unused (no phone calls) it can last for two days. I have tested it with brand new/unused prepaid sim.
I took it to authorized HTC service center, but unfortunately they do not support it any more due to lack of parts.
Anybody else have this issue? Or clue to what might be wrong. I really love this phone…

Same / Similar Problem
I have the same (or at least quite similar) problem here. Only with me, I think it's the micro USB port that needs changing. There is two visible cracks which maybe stopping the flow of electricity.
When I plug it into a charger, either wall or to my PC, it turns on fine, and can stay on aslong as it's plugged in. (sort of makes it like a desktop then, doesn't it ). The problem is that it doesn't charge.
I am using ahmed fikry's 6.5 Kaiser ROM but do not seem to have had any problem with it so far. I also run Ubuntu and Android through HaRet.
replacing the flex cable worked for me..i found one at about 30€. Hope this helps

Droid 4 close to brick...

Hi everybody...
I have an issue for you...
Yesterday I was using my phone and battery was aboout 40%.
I then took out it from my pocket to switch on the screed and it didn't switch on...it seems the screen was on but black...
- I tried to press the switch button, but nothing...I connected it to my portable battery and nothing too...
- I tried to switch on by press all three phisical buttons and I had a short vibration and nothing else, just another vibration after about 20sec...
That makes me feel that situation was possible to fix...
Of course the battery couldn't be removed and put on again...
Finally I arrived home and I connect to electricity and nothing, I connected to my PC and I reboot the phone by the utility: it works!!
I was worried and I would like to know what happened and if that's possible to repeat again...
Thanks!

This phone doesn't play nice with a lot of portable battery chargers. Try it with the charger that came with it?
A short while after you plug the charger in, it should appear to boot and display only a charging screen. Once it gets to 10% or 15% you can pull the charge cable out, power it on normally and then plug the charge cable back in.
Oddly, Nokia micro USB chargers seem to work well with this phone, if you have one of those spare.
Hi!
thanks for the answer, but you maybe misunderstood, I know about difference between charging from portable charger and normal...it happened with my backflip when it was completely empty...
Maybe I didn't explain well...the phone went "off" alone, but I was sure battery was about 30%...and it didn't work, just the screen on and black...
In my case even normal charger didn't work to reboot phone...
My solution was just to connect to computer and reboot with the tool...
but I don't know what happened, till now it didn't happen again...
p.s. I have a portable charger bought on groupon, that it works, but it's extremely slow...
bye!!

[Q] i9000 battery problem, charging port or hardware problem?

Hello. Recently i bought SGS and didnt know of problem it has. It ran stock eclair. Once i plugged charger it started to chage but when i unplugged it showed i charge it anyway. I reset default settings but then phone showed that usb is plugged in although it wasnt. But the most annoying thing that i cannot turn it on if charger or usb not plugged in. After it shows start screen with samsung galaxy logo i can unplug it. If i do not plug charger in, then it start showing circle then grey battery and then restarts that same. I upgraded to gingerbread stock but booting problem still hapens each time. My husband tried to look inside the phone, in the charging port there were signs of liquid but all other parts of motherboard were clean. Dont know what to do. Phone works fine when i use it, no other complains.

try cleaning the USB port as mentioned here and also the image at the bottom, for a guide on how to identify where the problem may be to resolve it.
Check this out! Links to useful Guides and " Banned " Documentaries
My husband cleaned the usb port, and i updated software. It is charging normally and usb recognizes it, but with a little delay, and also chen i unplug charger, phone detects it but with delay. But not turning on still present. it looks like in other posts battery bootloop. show little circle, then grey battery wih same circle and again. it tries to start even if i turn phone off. I turn it off, after 10 secs it starts to show that circle and grey battery.

I think those are hardware related problems. The problem when turned off could be that the phone knows that its getting charged not only through the voltage of the charger but also through a shortened (to mass?) pin. Maybe this pin is always shorted because of the liquid etc. you could try to clean it again or buy and change the usb port
Probably the phone have a history o drowning/soaking from water or some kind of liquid. If you could dismantle all the parts, but be sure you can assemble them again (try to search Youtube, I think there's a lot of guides on how to do it). Clean all parts with anti-static compress air in can, I think you can buy them from electronic shops. Give special cleaning on the USB port and buttons contacts. You can also blow-dry it with hair dryer.
Hope this helps solve your problem...

Screen flicker when charging

When I put my nexus to charge, screen flickers like it needs more power. But when I increase the brightness it goes away or I can't see it. Tried a different power outlet as well. And I'm using the turbo charger.
Anyone experiencing this?

Yes I am also experiencing this issue. I contacted the (UK) Google Play support and they suggested:
Reboot to Safe Mode (Test Charging)
Factory Reset Device (Test Charging)
In both instances Google Play were trying to eliminate any applications that may be causing the issue. Needless to say I tried both suggestions and the issue still prevails. I have requested a replacement device but you are quite right...this only occurs when you use the Turbo charger - I tested a HTC M8 charger and the issue disappeared. It is also not consistently replicated - sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. It seems to occur between 30%-80% of charge and then stops (I could be imagining that!).
I am hoping its nothing serious and either a faulty charger, a feature/symptom of "turbo" charging or at best just a one off faulty device. I may even ring Motorola themselves and see if they can explain whether it is a fault or a non intentional side effect. The latter would be very disappointing.
Have you made any progress?
Mine does the same thing. I'll try with a different charger and stuff later, but just thought I'd let you inow that the two of you arent alone.
It doesnt bug me. Normally when my phones charging I'm not using it.
Same here. Was gonna post but wanted to wait and see if someone else would first. Kinda annoying but not a big deal. It doesn't do it with my car charger and maps open and that's usually the only time I charge while using the screen.
I contacted Motorola and they suggested to wipe the cache too. I haven't successfully been able to do that yet. I think also the representative may have mistaken my explanation as definitely being caused by an application. I doubt it will rectify it but nevertheless here is the response below, it may help. Either way both Google Play (UK) and Motorola seem unaware/surprised regarding this issue, yet still very interested in helping fix it.
Thank you for contacting Motorola.
I am sorry to hear that there is a problem with you phone.
Please try the steps below to see if they can solve the problem.
If the first step does not solve the problem please continue with the next.
1. Safe mode
To Enable Safe Mode, please try the following:
1. Press the Power key
2. Touch and hold Power off
3. Touch OK when Reboot to safe mode appears
4. Phone will reboot and Safe Mode will appear in bottom left corner
5. Check if the problem is solved. If this is the case continue with the next steps. If not continue with the Clear Cache option
6. While in Safe Mode, launch apps one at a time to identify the app causing the problem
7. Remove the app that causes the problem from the device
To remove an application:
1. From the home scree, tap the circle with 6 dots (Menu)
2. Tap and hold the application that you want to remove
3. Drag tp Uninstall at the top of the screen
4. Confirm by touching OK
After you have identified and removed the application simply power cycle the device to disable safe mode.
2. Clear Cache
CLEAR CACHE PARTITION
1. With the phone powered off, press the VOL DOWN KEY for 2-3 seconds then POWER key then release.
2. The device will display different BOOT OPTIONS
3. Use the VOL DOWN Key to SCROLL to Recovery and VOL UP Key to select
Tip: If the device reboots, you may have waited to long to make a selection, you will need to begin the process again.
4. The device will display the Motorola logo and then the Android in distress ( logo with Exclamation mark)
5. Press and hold the VOL UP key for 10-15 seconds. While still holding the VOL UP key tap and release the POWER key
Tip: You can try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are stuck on step 6, try a force reboot by pressing the Power key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.
6. The device will display additional menu options (Text will appear in BLUE)
7. Use the VOL DOWN Key to scroll to wipe cache partition and the POWER Key to select this option
8. The device will then perform the partition wipe
9. The device will reboot and start the normal power up sequence
If the problem is still not solved please backup the information on the device and continue with a factory data reset.
Once you have backed up your information, please try the following to perform the factory data reset:
1. From the home screen, tap Menu icon (a circle with 6 dots on it, located at the bottom).
2. Tap Settings.
3. Under the Personal section, tap Backup & reset.
4. Tap Factory data reset.
5. Tap Reset phone.
6. Tap Erase everything.
Please allow several minutes for the factory data reset and reboot processes to complete.
To setup the device after the reset has completed, refer to Initial Activation and Setup.
This should solve the issues you have encountered.

Happens to me too. Don't see it as an issue unless the flicker occurs when the phone is disconnected from the turbo charger
Happens to me as well. Also, when I wake up in the morning, I can "hear" my phone charging. Something makes a constant noise, and it goes away as soon as I take the charger off.
Only hear it when the phone is fully charged and still on charger.
Thank you for the reply guys. Since I'm on my holidays I didn't have that much time to deal with this issue. I was going to send back the phone when I get back but now i'm thinking to buy a wireless charger or use another charger since phone get extra hot too when you are using the turbo charger.

Says who?
Hi
Just a quick update.
I received my replacement device and I haven't seen the flickering yet - hopefully that is the end of it for me.
As somebody else has said, if it doesn't bother you then save the hassle. If it does, Google Play seem happy to replace under warranty.
Thanks for the comments.

I experienced similar things with the screen flickering but this was off the charger as in not using the charger. I notice it most when you have the screen brightness low up to about 25% with the adaptive lighting turned on. The moment I turn off the adaptive lighting and raise the brightness above 40% the flickering seems to go away. So my screen flickering issue has been when I'm not using the charger. Has anyone else experienced this or might this be a defective screen?
My screen flickers at low brightness only. Its not that bad and I figure it night have to do with how dim the screen gets in the dark but I'm not sure. I may eventually RMA it, however it doesn't bother me currently so in fine with it happening.

Why? The quick charger only draws what the power control chip determines it needs. It won't overdraw current. I've used my quick charger over night many times with 0 issues. I've also used my quick charger 2.0 car charger on a road trip the whole way and again no issues. My battery life is still the same 6-6.5 hours SOT that it was when i bought it. I now use my qi charger. Where is the evidence that says its bad? If there isn't any then its not good to spread rumors about it being bad. (I'm not saying your losing, I just want to see where/how your concluded that)

When you leave your phone on the turbo charger overnight, do you hear a noise in the morning coming from the N6? I could hear a noise coming from the charging port in the morning on the turbo charger, its fine now with a regular charger.

Nope, mine doesn't buzz at all when I leave it. Ill test it again later, but I haven't had this issue. I have 2 of the quick chargers for my home and one for my car and my wife uses it for her S5 without any issues too. Maybe your charger is the issue?
Quick charge only charges quick for about 20 Mins then turns to the normal 5v 1a setting that most chargers use. I read the specs somewhere and it is completely determined by the phone. So it's not gonna hurt using it all the time. However if yours is buzzing it may be the charger like the others said.
You could download battery monitor widget and watch the voltage and amps that its drawing. At peak it draws 2.5amps at 9v if I recall correctly. I'll check it when my battery gets low again. The quick charger doesn't have any adverse effect that you would notice over a standard 2 year usage for a phone any more than a standard charger. Unless your battery is really hot all of the time it won't degrade any faster.
I am getting this flickering when charging with turbo charger too.. Hmm I wonder if this will kill the screen

Dead Phone (doesn't charge?)

Hi,
I was using my phone until my battery completely died then when I finally plugged it was so low that it couldn't turn on so it kept restarting
for infinity amount of times, then it got even worse now it doesn't even do that it just show some battery icon with red color as low and some plug in the center of it that keeps flashing for couple of seconds and turn on and keeps repeating if I plug it in or press power button but no matter for how long I'll leave it plugged nothing will happen...
Any possible fix, thanks in advance.
P.S. It's such a BS tbh if it was so low why would it automatically try to switch on instead of waiting some time allowing the battery to charge at least 5%...
Same problem!

Hi, I did. In my case it's faulty charging port (I don't know what happened to it) but it's still possible to charge the phone if you insert the cable the right way.
I randomly fixed it by trying to plug/unplug the cable and at some point that battery with the flashing plug changed color to green disappeared and became standard white battery which shows charging progress so basically you can live with that as it's only tricky when the battery is too low as long as you always keep the phone charged and don't let it die but I still wake up sometimes in the morning with my battery on the same % so it's not a permanent fix you will probably need to change the port... Even though by searching the internet people say it's related to the battery not properly being connected i.e. has lose contacts etc.
P.S. I use original charging cable, I thought the cable might be broken so bought an expensive one from Amazon but for some reason it doesn't work.

My brother's nokia 8 has this problem, too. One side of usb-c charges well (c > 2 Amperes), other side doesn't (c < 0.1 A). No problem on the cable, because it works well with my phone. I tried to clean the usb socket with alcohol and soft paper but no result.
