[Q] kit kat killed Activesync? - Moto X Q&A

Sorry if this is a repeat.
I just got a Moto X on Verizon and the update to Kit Kat before I did anything. Now I can't get it to sync with my corporate email with the native email app or Touchdown. This all works fine on my GNEX with 4.2.2
Is this a known thing? Is there a work around or am I stuck waiting for Verizon to fix this?

The same happened for me. The 4.4.1 update fixed it for me just look in the nexus 5 forum and you should be able to find an exchange app that is updated(you'll prob need to be rooted)I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531268 this and it works fine now for me. I went through auto setup and it hung up. but manual setup worked fine. Only had to change the server URL to make work. Hopefully this helps.

By the way it is a known 4.4 issue with some exchange servers

Thanks for the confirmation. I know I can search for this, but I'm traveling all this week with little time.
I'm new to the Moto X. I don't have the developer version. Could you point me to a thread/site for unlocking the bootloader and rooting the VZW Moto X?
Thanks.

Oh, and I'd prefer to stick with Touchdown if possible. Is there any way to get 4.4.1 or 4.4.2 without just waiting for VZW to push an update out?
Thanks.

Same problem here. Could someone post the fixed, installable, email and exchange files from 4.4.2? I'm not rooted. Thanks.

You guys are going to have to do a little leg work here. I posted a link. You can try to install it like a normal app not sure if it will work or not. Only other way is going to be to root. This is xda after all come here to root and hack your device

fair comment borex. I'm back from my trip and will spend some time finding the root methodolgy for my device. I didn't come expecting to be hand-held, but sometimes the root for a device is common and well known (like my previous GNEX). I've been around the block a few times. I had the original Siemens MDA

Thank you brorex!! That worked perfectly for me... This is much better than waiting for Motorola to push out new OS update with the fixes implemented!

Getting a Bionic Monday or tuesday.. want to root/unlock hotspot

Hey all,
new to the bionic but not to rooting.
im currently using a nexus s 4g on sprint, started android with the evo, thn went to the epic, then the optimus and now im on the nexus.
im getting a bionic on monday or tuesday through work.
cant wait to play.
im grandfathered into the unlimited plan and tethering is a big thing for me when im working or whatever.
so i been doing some reading, it is not possible to use a wifi hotspot app in the market because of verizon locking things down?
im new to verizon so im not really sure on how everthing works with them, but tether is really needed.
so i just need to root with the directions in the forum here and use the hotspot directions as well, no app in the market will work?
also for rom, im interested in a clean stock rom thats tweaked, i would also prefer a stable kernel (if this phones bootloader is already unlocked and so on)
thanks!
So far the only really reliable tether is by USB and by pdanet. There are ways explained on xda about a database hack but that one does not stop Verizon being able to see your tether use as seperate from your normal use so don't use it.
Also, there are already like 3628298485 threads about this. Try search next time
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
whats the difference between the database hack thats shown here via video and the pda net usb tether?
Or....you can just pay for it. I'm sure someone will say but we already pay for data...blah, blah, blah.

Stop OTA Notification?

Hey All,
I'm a long-time Nexus guy (exclusively), so I'm embarrassingly worthless when it comes to other devices. My girlfriend has a Verizon Moto X (non-dev edition), and, when she got it, I got her R/W access and threw xposed and gravity box on there to give her a little more flexibility. She's running stock 4.4. When the 4.4.2 OTA came out, I glanced through some threads here, and it seemed to be that I could put the stock recovery back on and update her and lose the R/W, or ignore the update. I went into settings and turned off notifications for MotorolaOTA thinking that would keep her happy. But she is still getting prompted constantly to update, and it's making her crazy. Her number one priority is not having to set up her phone again. It's just not her thing. What's the best way to get this thing to go away? Is there an easy update solution I don't know about? Should I freeze the app using Titanium? What are others doing? I--and more importantly, she--would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks.
Sent from my Nexus 7 2013 using Tapatalk
You can just freeze the app. That will take care of it. You can also check out kryptonite's thread on rootzwiki if you're interested in updating to 4.4.2 without losing root and r/w access.
Sent from my Motonovo X
Use titanium to freeze 'MotorolaOTA 1.0' and it should vanish instantly.
Thread cleaned
Please search before posting
If you find conflicting information when searching then it would be best to pose a question based on what you found
And maybe a more specific question.
Thanks

[Q] A few questions about the Moto X

Just curious if anyone here on AIO Wirelss have conditional call forwarding setup on their AIOP Wireless device. I am switching from Sprint, to come to AIO, and do not want to use the AIO voicemail app
Can someone post their settings if they do know how to set it up, I have been a GVoicemail user for years and don't want to give that up
Also can the AIO wireless VM app be disabled or removed, if I have a none branded Moto X device, I'm not going to root this device, please advise thanks.
Damn, I can't believe not one person with a Moto X is using Google Voicemail ??
You just set voicemail up in the settings of the phone app ad well as in the Google voice app and online in Google voice.

Just to be sure, go to Settings/Calls/Call Forward, and over write the AIO number VM, to my GV number ?? That will only forward calls to GV voicemail, and not all calls to go through GV ??
I finally got the phone, and just noticed it does not have an LED light when charging, looks like that option can only be attained if rooted ??
I assume there is no way to adjust the resolution of a picture taken, you figure that would be something basic with a camera, what was Google thinking ?? who wants to always take a 10 MP picture, to big to email when need to email a bunch of pictures.

OK, another quick question, just received the notification for the 4.4.2 update, should I take it, or should I wait. Are there any issues, if I take this update will I be able to root if I decide to do so down the rood ?? Any feedback, I did some reading and seem to be getting mixed reviews. I will be on AIO wireless at the end of the month and from what I read I will need this update for proper MMS receiving.

If you purchased it through Sprint I believe you can get your bootloader unlock code for free anytime from the Moto website. It will void the warranty though. So root is available anytime.

When you say unlocked you mean the Dev edition? Or carrier/sim unlocked?
If it is not the dev edition I would not update to 4.4.2 if you want root at any point in the future. You need to go through a method from 4.2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/orig-development/4-4-root-slapmymoto-1-0-motowpnomo-t2538896

Not Dev edition, Carrier Sin Unlocked. OK, I will wait until I activate my device to AIO and see if I get the MMS, if not then I will either root or take the update, but I am on 4.4 right now, so does that make a difference, or am I too late on rooting on 4.4, if I am too late them I might as well update ??

4.4 is fine. You can still downgrade to 4.2 for the root method, after that though it is not available.

Well I guess not available for now, but might be available down the road,
Still on the fence for updating though, I still have not taken the update, and still not sure I will need to root my device, I have always been rooted on most of my devices for the past years, but I really am not sure if I still need to be rooted, since I really don't tether, and using root apps are just for that, for the purpose of being rooted, LOL anyways, I am still on the fence.

A few more questions.
1) is it possible to sideload the Samsung Keyboard ?? without being rooted, is there such a thing or Keyboard.
2) Has anyone on AIO wireless been able to get tethering to work ?? without ROOT

That I already know, but I really love the Samsung Keyboard.
Another thing I get being on AIO wireless is every now and then I get echo feedback often when my buddy calls me from his Sprint device, and I only have the echo. Any clue what is causing this and how to resolve other then hanging up and calling back. ?

AT&T Galaxy S6 Marshmallow OTA In Next Few Days Confirmed

The support page for the Galaxy S6 has been updated to reflect that it’s going to receive the Marshmallow update on AT&T in the near future. The support page shows that version number G920AUCU3CPC2 will land on the handset, bumping it up to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
Now that it has been confirmed that the update is going to start rolling out soon it’s not going to take long for the OTA to hit the airwaves
Nice.. I hope the edge is updated at the same time
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using Tapatalk
Well I see that the OTA can be manually downloaded and installed on the S6, hopefully the file for the S6 Edge is uploaded soon.
i gotta wait fot the odin ?
What's funny is that the build that is available for the s6 is nearly 2 months old so clearly AT&T has just been sitting on it. It has the March security update, not even the April. If this is indeed the final build and what we will see on the S6 Edge I'm very disappointed in both AT&T and Samsung. The 2016 Nexus can't come out fast enough for me.
I know that back in the day we were able to flash 920 Images onto the 925 but would lose the edge features. which . . . havbe been pretty ****ty TBH
+1
So apparently in the regular s6 thread going on they found there are much newer versions of 6.0.1 available right now, the latest being PD6 vs the PC2 reference by samsung that's nearly 2 months old. I guess Samsung jumped the gun and posted the wrong build so we have literally no idea when the update is actually coming right now.
I have absolutely had it with AT&T, their utterly STUPID reps, and their mind-numbingly slow software updates. If anyone else is in the same boat, I ask you to call them whenever you have free time and literally bug the living **** out of them. This is the only way we'll get the update sooner and if nothing else, it's payback. Here's some arguments I've used:
Other carriers have had it for weeks
Two months (today) since the last update
Marshmallow came out 7 ****ING MONTHS AGO and they have a whopping 4-5 phones updated to it (s7, g5, g4, g3, and v10 pretty sure)
Android N is already late in the beta stages
Also, ask for a manager or supervisor. They're more likely to escalate this issue to the higher-ups.
At this point, I honestly think it's just a way of them forcing us into buying the s7. From a business perspective, it makes perfect sense. They do it every year, they don't give us any information on the development of the software, and if no one makes a big deal over it, what's in it for them? Absolutely ****ing nothing.
Together maybe we can move them along.... slightly.

I really wouldn't waste your time/effort on this. AT&T is already aware, and they do not care.
Do you really want to get their attention? Stop buying their branded phones (a lesson I keep having to tell myself since purchasing this AT&T GS6 Edge..). This is a HUGE revenue stream for them - both from the sale of the actual phones at jacked up prices, as well as the kickbacks received from 3rd party bloatware contracts. Get an unbranded unlocked phone and make AT&T your dump pipe. They hate being that.
Suffice to say, I plan on getting either the HTC 10 or one of the new Nexus phones this year. Update and bloatware problems solved.
EDIT: MAJOR props to jetta311xx! He found a new .bin for MM for our GS6 Edges. See below:

Rahilm has posted great instructions HERE. These are for the regular GS6 obviously, but the same flashing steps would apply for the Edge, just make sure you're using the right image first :good:

Troy - I was looking around, and you may want to try rebooting your workstation if you're sure you're running the most recent version of adb. This should resolve the cannot read issue.

I've tried restarting, reinstalling, re-anything lol. Also tried using .bin and .zip with no luck. Is there a video tutorial anywhere? Good luck to you, and let me know if you figure anything out!
I wish I had better news for you guys. It just seems that ADB can be a little finicky - it's not the update file. I ran into the same issue and once ADB decides to start doing this, it doesn't even bother reading the file.
These are the steps I took and I eventually got it to work:
Make sure that the update file is in the same directory as ADB
Verify that you are running the latest version of ADB
Rename the update to a short filename like "ota" and add the .zip extension
Verify in cmd that the file renamed with only a .zip extension and not something else (eg: not ota.zip.bin or ota.zip.zip)
Restart your computer
Before plugging phone in, run "adb devices" and verify daemon is started with no devices listed
Plug phone in and enter adb sideload mode
Run adb devices again and verify the presence of your device
Run adb sideload update.zip
If doing things in this order doesn't work, all I can suggest at that point is to completely remove all ADB installations, reboot, and do a fresh install of the latest version of ADB. Some people have reported success with going the nuclear route and loading the latest SDK, but it's all very much YMMV.
Its here and working!!!

Why wouldn't you take it? S8 had no issues with root, with all updates.
In BK disabler, search for SDM and disable the 2 packages. Bye OF A. I also disabled them in developer options. This is for Verizon, not sure about others.
Also, just curious if there will be an official XDA Verizon n8 forum.

People moan when they don't receive updates and moan when they do? I would advise you don't take the updates, Last thing you want is Samsung looking after your device.
Ryland
4K 60fps?
I heard from another post on here, thats its a bluetooth security fix.
But dont know. I disable updates. It seems like after a few the phone starts to run slow
Any body know if the unlocked version has this update I'm waiting I'm mine. I plan to wait and see if root comes. Also because of the WiFi hotspot being unlocked out of the box. What if this update blocks this.
