[Q] ROM Flash Error - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys
Today I was restoring my phone back to the old gingerbread ROM. As the site i was at to download the rom, it said it was removed so I googled for the rom and downloaded and flash, but unfortunately i saw the wrong thing at it was actually the SCH-i500's ROM. So now I'm stuck.
Can anyone provide help? Kinda urgent
Thanks in advanced!

use the gingerbread JVU ROM with PIT and flash as per this guide to solve your problem or use a rescue kit, will do the same thing

[Q] S Advance broke down, please this n00b really needs help!!

Hi guys,
I have a rooted galaxy s advance, and everything just worked fine for half a year or so but suddenly it wouldn't start on anymore..
I was trying to reboot it but it stops when showing the samsung galaxy s advance logo..
I've tried everything for as far as i know, reboot, wipe cache, factory reset..
I have the stock rom jb 4.1.2 xxlqe (dutch) installed, no mods..
I don't know if and how it's possible to put a custom rom(or stock rom again) on it because i can only access it via download mode..
I've exhaustively searched for a clear how-to but it's really unclear to me how to do it..
I've searched for people with similar problems but never found a solution..
The how-to's i find are so elaborate, and in great numbers so a good one is hard to find, i don't know what to do..
Does it matter which country you are from, what version of stock rom you have, does a custom rom include side effects?
I really need a simple step-by-step guide, if anyone could refer me to one i would die for it..
I am desperate! :crying: Really really thanks in advance!
Sorry for using bad english, it isn't my native language..
You should flash a firmware compatible with your device using Odin, just search it here. You'll find.
I won't give you a step by step because it already exists.
Follow this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2198341
And search your firmware on samsung-updayes.com

[Q] Trying to help a friend with their i9000

So I am trying to do a favour for a friend as their i9000m seems to be at the least, soft bricked.
I was able to find out that they had tried to use Odin to flash a rom on it to fix "something". Knowing that a mistake in Odin can make a mess, I bet that is what wrecked things. However, reflashing with the stock Bell Mobility ROM did not work. The following screen is what was happening BEFORE it was given to me to look at it and is still coming up.
Any help would be appreciated!

Yes indeed the pictures I attached to the post.
Sadly, I tried your files and the PIT and it did not to anything more than with the ones I already had. (PIT not withstanding as I have never fussed with those in the past)
The phone is still doing the same thing after a restart. In my mind, it should have worked as there were no errors in the log from ODIN. I have tried straight factory flash and the CWM rooted Kernel.
I have also tried Heimdall with a rooted CWM Kernel and that does not work either. It says all went well but then nothing
As an owner of one of these i9000m models, this should not be this hard but who knows what the owner actually did to this when he tried to flash with ODIN.

Look here under unbricking and try to flash the pram.lfs

Well, I tried that and also tried a lot of other things on that page. The closest I got was using the ezbase recovery kit.
After doing that package, I got the attached errors... I assume that that is REALLY bad and that whatever happened to this guy's phone, it is terminal?

as long as you have download mode, its not terminal, but the problem is your attached images shows nothing but a process still in motion, NO errors are mentioned.

according to this 3 of your partitions are not in rfs format for stock ROM's to function , meaning they had been converted to Ext 4, 3 o2 as such stock which use rfs format , cannot use them
1) SD card, data partition and cache partition all need to be formatted back to rfs first..so use the CWM to reformat them back to rfs ..read this guide and others mentioned within to get an idea on how it can be done

Nope. Nothing.
The worst part is that I can NEVER get into recovery mode. Not once with any of the flashes for anything. Sometimes when trying to get into recovery, the screen is just black. Earlier or if I were to flash back on all of the stock firmware, it will just go to the first screens I attached in the OP.
I am thinking that this is a lost cause as most of the solutions are to use an external SD and that is not something that is going to be pursued as he does not want it that bad...
Let me know if you have any other ideas but otherwise, thanks for the help you have given and Merry Christmas!

[Q] ****ed my spare i9000 when trying to upgrade the ROM

It was running CM9.x and I figured since there's a stable CM10.x out now with jellybean that I'd upgrade it. Was going to give the phone to someone who had a POS Huawei for free.
I've somehow screwed it completely. I can't remember what I did either lol. Can someone help a brother out here? When I turn it on it does this:

^^ Can't post it as a link apparently.

You have wrong CWM for upgrading to CM 10 ( no idea how you managed to do that from CM 9), you need to upgrade gradually, so go here and start from gingerbread stock ROM and step by step to CM10 would be the correct way without problems . Read everything, than proceed once you understand it.

Thanks for the quick response!
Okay, I saw the guide previously. Could you tell me if my train of thought here is correct? I get ODIN, download the appropriate gingerbread fw for my version of i9000 (I think its just i9000 actually), and use ODIN to flash that on? Then from there I work my way to CM10? Have I got that process right? Because it seems like I may have screwed up the file system from what I am seeing on the screen. Will that get fixed if I follow the process I've just written? Thanks!

yes you got that correct, all the download links are given in that thread and respective upgrade you want to do, so it would be wise to use the PIT file as mentioned in the gingerbread section ( since you say you might have done things to the file system) ...so, simply follow it and you should be good to go

[Q] reformat i9000 back to normality - in the dark?

Hello guys
Ages ago I gave my i9000 to my brother, then years later he gave it to my sister. It is uber sluggish, though running CM10.2, so I wanted to flash CM KitKat... by wiping the crap out of it, reformat, repartition, do whatever I can to get it as optimised as possible for KitKat.
The problem is, I have no idea IF/What lagfix I applied years ago, and have a hunch I would have to UN-lagfix it before installing another OS...
So the big question is, IF I do a ODIN flash to a stock rom would repartitioning using PIT file wipe everything in such a way as to remove any lagfix I may or may not have had? What about possible reformatting to EXT-2/4 I may have done back then?
Does it matter that I cant remember what I did?
Help much appreciated,
Tx
Mark

it will matter, so use this app to check your system is in its default rfs format, after that you can use this guide to flash and resolve problems too

Thanks Xsenman, I will definitely install that app and make sure I have the partitions back to nfs... From there I am pretty ok... will use stock gingerbread, PIT 512, CWM & ROOT then KitKat & TWRP... cheers for the help,
Mark.

refer to this [Tutorial] How to Unbrick, Flash, Downgrade, Root, Update i9000 from Froyo to Kit Kat on how to save your EFS, data files etc before flashing, the T may need its modem, so note down its version ( note down everything concerning your current ROM and also make nandroid backup) , before attempting to flash any i9000 custom ROM.
