Hi,
I think I might have bricked my Kindle Fire HD 7". I successfully rooted it using B1nary's tool (v17) and went about trying to install TWRP. I used this guide:
gizmodo.co.uk/2013/04/the-simple-guide-to-root-the-kindle-fire-hd-and-flash-a-custom-rom
Sorry for the lack of direct links - it's because I'm newly registered
I started having trouble around Step 2, with the adb shell commands not working. So I tried another method, and came across this one:
liliputing.com/2011/12/how-to-install-twrp-2-0-touch-based-recovery-on-the-kindle-fire-backup-restore-flash-custom-firmware.html
Stupidly, in my haste I neglected to read the fact that this tutorial is for a Kindle Fire, not the Fire HD. I got to the final step, step 11 - switched off my KFHD and now it won't start up again. I have a fastboot cable bought from eBay but I'm not sure if I've totally screwed my device or if it can be fixed. Due to the fairly incompetent nature of my fault, I haven't been able to find a solution via searching XDA or other forums, either.
Any help much appreciated.

Yea, flashing anything meant for another device is almost a certain hard brick. when you plug your device into a USB port with a fastboot cable, does it enter fastboot? If it does, you can try a a system restore. If it does nothing, that's it for the device.

Thanks for the quick reply.
It does nothing. Diddly squat. Oh well, I guess I'll just chalk it up to incompetence experience....and go buy a Nexus 7 or Galaxy Tab 3 :-|

I like my Kindle Fire HD however I just bought a Nexus 7 Flo to get me by until the Kindle Fire HDX has some custom ROM's (if it gets some.) I'm a flashaholic and need a fresh fix lol.
A while back after buying my kindle I decided to root it. After rooting it (like a total idiot) I tried putting on a second bootloader and running Cyanogen on it. I didn't really know what I was doing and noticed later that it wouldn't charge. It ultimately shut down and won't charge at all. I purchased a fastboot cable and plugged it in but it's not registering anything other than the batter logo (but without the charging symbol). Do I have to wait until it dies completely or is there something I can do to speed up the process?
Nobody? It won't even charge with the factory cable plugged in (or rather display that it's charging) what do I do?
So it gets to the charging logo and never gets past that? Or is it telling you to charge it. Also I don't think you can charge with a fastboot cable.

Well, after letting it sit a while it booted into fastboot mode but KFFA isn't reading it to flash it and install anything. It sits at [Waiting for Device] and doesn't change.
Sounds like your drivers for fastboot aren't installed. Go into the device manger and look for a device that has a yellow triangle next to it probably called tate-pvt. Now download the drivers in my signature and extract them somewhere. Back in the device manager right click the device with a yellow triangle, hit update drivers, and point it to where you extracted mine and let it install. If you are on windows 8 you will have to disable driver signature enforcement first or my drivers won't install...

Alright, downloading now. So you think this should fix the ADB issue?
I think so, also keep in mind you don't use adb commands in fastboot, you use fastboot commands, so if at some point kffa has a window come up about adb it's useless so kill it, I think it actually asks you a question that determines if that window comes up( like put your device in fastboot?).

So far it's working. It's reading that it's erasing user data now so I think I'm home free now. Thanks a ton!!
Now I have another problem....it won't boot back up. The kindle shut down after KFFA was done and I was given the message to hold it down for x seconds then release it for x then hold it down again, but I've done that and it won't start!

Thanks SithSerith :good:,
For posting this problem that I will soon have to address with my newly bricked kindle.
I think I may have the same problem that you had and will have wait for my cable to arrive before I make the umteen time attempting to fix the 1 gen Kindle.
I am using a iMac workstation with this application VMWare hosting a Win7 and somehow the device is not showing up after I bricked the puppy trying to install TWRP via Kindle Fire Utility v0.9.9 and I did something really stupid and needless to say spent the last 3 days researching and found the factory cable thread and ordered one.
I am waiting till it get here so that I can get past the Amazon Kindle yellow logo. The device is not seen in my mac nor the VMWare Win7.
Could please clean up your OP (Original Post) and list the steps or some bullets for others like my self can follow along with the correct way to repair the kindle.
I will fumble and panic until I get this puppy fixed and rooted with Cyanogen Mod like I wanted to ....
Thanks a bunch SithSerith :good:!
When go through a wrong process you can't hope everything will finish in a good way. Need no wrong to boot files

Does the tablet come on at all? Next time use Fire Flash. KFU is not for a Kindle Fire HD. I hope that the fastboot cord shows some life in your tablet because flashing a different bootloader is most often a hard brick that the fastboot cord won't help with. Hope it works out though. Here are two great posts to read to restore.

Oh yes she fires up stuck at the Kindle Fire yellow logo . . .
Hello folks,
I posted this in the wrong forum earlier. Im a bit confused and need some direction.
I want to unleash my KF2 to full android tablet, So...I know i need to root it, I want to go with KitKat style rom but want 100% reliability (so will go with the most stable platform), I have been looking at the guides and how to pages for a week now and there is a lot on conflicting or different information. Can someone point me towards a guide or someone who can help me please.
My KF2 is stock with sideloaded apps at present its software version is 10.4.8 (which i can find no information about regarding root or other hacks)
any information will be gratefully received.
Many thanks
Andy
Anyone help out? Cheers, I'm eager to update this thing

root with kindle fire first aid, think it also has a option to install twrp and 2nd bootloader for you, not sure how reliable that is considering you are going to have to downgrade the bootloader and stuff, for some reason fireflash never had kf2 support added to it, which i find odd considering it uses the same method to do it, minus the fact it needs a different bootloader. Long story short, root with kffa, then either use kffa's option to install twrp and 2nd bootloader(if it has it) or use the tutorial for your device in the android development section made by hashcode. You must downgrade your bootloader though if you do it manually, just a heads up so you don't get stuck with a redscreen that only a fastboot cable will fix.
Thanks very much

Just to summerise,
I root with KFFA,
I install TWRP,
Then a 2nd boot loader,
Then I can do custom Rom,
In a nutshell oh 1 more thing, what's the best Rom to go for and at what point do I need to downgrade my bootloader ? Cheers

eh its more like root. downgrade bootloader from fastboot(make sure to check md5sum or risk hard brick), install 2nd bootloader +twrp.
Lemme grab a tutorial for ya: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100963

O you don't need a fastboot cable, fastboot cables are only to kick it into fastboot mode when bricked, you can get into fastboot from a working kindle with commands such as
Code:
adb reboot bootloader

So i plug my kindle into the USB slot when it is turned off and it turns on as expected, I then go to the KFFA software as instructed to select option 15 from the main menu, except the main menu doesn't 15 options,
i have
1. device diagnostics

5. rooting/unrooting
6. backups
7. extras
8. drivers
9. device diagnosics (root required)
10. [disabled] caution: install 2nd bootloader <TWRP>
i have tried going option 15 and it just opens option 1.

you could still do it all you need to do is run a simple "adb reboot bootloader" from a command prompt while cd'd into the kffa directory. Thats the equivalent of what it wants to do.

Sweet those are 2 fields I'm always interested in, I took a lot of autotech courses back in highschool because I have an old 75 corvette that sat in the driveway for about 10 years. Already replaced all the brake calipers, master cylinder, rebuilt the carburetor, and did the most ghetto fix to the tachometers circuit board to fix a blown circuit you will ever see. xD
I'll stop digressing before there's a huge paragraph about this, long story short it still isn't drive able yet because the transmission needs some serious fixing (some kinda vacuum issue makes the engine die when going into drive unless you rev it a lot while doing so, and occasionally it blows ATF all over the place from the dipstick/fill hole, was told by my teacher a while back it is probably a blocked vent or something, don't remember the term right now because its been awhile since I looked into it, but I digress again)

ok i'm still here to help, also now i recognize who pm'd me the other day *facepalm* sorry i've been gettign on xda like right before i fall asleep lately because of a frustrating project i'm working on thats a bit above my knowledge. Rather than donwload the big sdk, look for a tut made by me in my threads (theres not many threads i created) and it has a zip with adb and fastboot in it and thats it. Way smaller and easier to use, just extract it to a directory and then shift right click the directory and hit " new command windows here" and you can run the adb and fastboot commands. Also drivers are in my signature. They are the kind that you right click the device in the device manager and hit update driver on to use. Any questions feel free to ask.
Well, I couldn't leave well enough alone when I had a great running KF HD 7" using CM 11. Tried to install f2fs and royally screwed it up. What I now have is a Kindle that just continually flashes the orange Kindle Fire boot up screen with no access to bootloader or recovery. I think I know the answer to the question already but is there any hope for this device?
Thanks for any help.

It's been ordered and on its way. Hopefully this will be the solution needed.
I tried to install the recovery mode on my rooted kindle.
When I tried to do go into it, the Logo pops up for 3 sec and then disappears. Then it does it again in a endless loop.
Is there a way to fix this?

I have managed to make the FastBoot words to appear but not sure if anything is actually happening. I have not tried the programs you listed yet.
Do the programs you listed work on the kindle stuck on the logo screen. I have tried another program and it did nothing.
Fastboot mode doesn't do anything. It's a mode. It's a means for you to interact with the device.

If you have fastboot cable and a booting kindle, you can restore it at home. To do this, use the fastboot cable to boot into fastboot mode and use the Kindle Fire First Aid to go stock. You can also use the Kindle Fire System Restore Tool to restore it to 7.2.3

I really just want to know if I can send it to amazon. I don't have a warranty so that stuff does not matter. Will they accept it is the question I want answered. (I also have not seen any tut on fixing the bootloop)
I also think it might be a battery problem. I have seen people have similar problems and people saying the new bootloader turns on a bootloop when the battery is low. The only way to fix it is to get the original charger (mine broke) or charge it at a shop.
