TF701 & 3G dongle - Asus Transformer TF701

Hi all,
i would like to buy a tablet + keyboard + 3g but the old generation (tf300tg/tf300tl) seems to be no more available here in Italy (i just bought it on amazon.it but it came with the French localization, "azerty" keybord).
I'm wondering if someone ever managed to run an 3g dongle (USB) on the tf7001 (usb on keybord) . This seems to be possible on the tf700 with root and a specific app but i didn't find any info about the tf701.
any suggestion?

I think this device is too new to have some experience with this.
What you could do is search in the TF700 thread what software was used to make it work and test it yourself on your own TF701 after you bought it with a dongle and report here your findings.

3G works flawlessly with my Huawei E160 Dongle and the PPPWidget App. You can get it for free in the Play Store.

Or just use a MiFi like everyone else.

Well in the UK it is but seems to have been crested by three.
Everyone I know uses them. You can connect up to 5 devises simultaneously. Battery lasts 30 days on standby, 10 hours continous use. USB dongles are dead.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MiFi

Outside of battery life is there any advantage to using one of these vs just tethering on my phone?

I added another I to your link, just to check. For some reason I was sure that You were talking about making your "M"obile phone active as W"ifi" access point, but this is a little different. Is there some speed gain in this version against making your phone act like WAP ?

Oops copy and paste fail
It creates a wirless hotspot - whilst connected to 4G - so you get very fast speeds. Also you don't need any drivers or for it to physically connected.

Yeah, but that's what my HTC One also does, as long as our provider does actually deliver 4G (does not work so well). Also here no drivers needed, anyway MiFi is not exactly what I thought, but I was close.
So why the dongle?

Yes, I've seen some descriptions that say it is, in fact a USB host.
It would be very cool if that is indeed the case. I only wonder what's taking Samsung so long to release a simple dongle?
+1 I want this NOW! Plan to buy a 1.8" 250GB Samsung HDD and fill with movies etc for going on holiday etc.

No but you could get a myfi or something like this.

But why not get a plan for it? What carrier is it?
Well it's a Sprint one. But I have a data card already and a Smartphone with a plan as well. Trying to see of I could use a dongle or somehow tether with Bluetooth. I may eventually get a pan with it.
I love it so far, very awesome in deed. Was my first experience with Android also. Beein using a Windows Treo Pro.

Okay, the baove is mentioning the Hardware but i want to ask about the software since i couldn't recognize that there is anything in the setting related to enabling USB to GO
I dont think this will be available for the 7" first gen Galaxy tabs.
I use a Mogo mouse (Bluetooth) with my Tab - works fine. It charges in the expresscard slot in my laptop. I just ordered a USB-to-expresscard adapter...
My goal is to tap that Tab slot and make an adapter to power the expresscard adapter, thus enabling me to charge the Mogo mouse.

Nexus 7 tv out?

Do they sell an Hdmi cable that is compatible with this tab so I can connect it to my tv?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Last I read, the Nexus 7 didn't have MHL capabilities.
I believe this function was going to be added through the use of Nexus Q & Google TV systems. However that's officially on the back burner.

Have a look at the video in this thread.

I am not sure if u can stream via hdmi fom nexus to TV, but if it is possible this is the cable u would need.
HDMI to Micro Type D
Not mhl compatible, but maybe a future dock will have that.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
the future dock would still require the tablet to be mhl capable, therefore no, there is no and will be no way to directly plug the tablet into a television, what there is hope for is streaming via a nexus q device.
Hey folks, I'm new here. Have been lurking a bit.
I've been bugging Nexus support staff about features/upcoming features.. as I'd expected, they're pretty hush-hush
One guy even fibbed to me, saying that a USB OTG cable and peripherals such as keyboard, mouse, usb drives.. will not work with the Nexus, even if I unlock it. Maybe he just didn't know any better.
Anyhow, I love this little device, but the lack of tv-out in the form of display mirroring is flat-out pissing me off.
I'm not experienced with coding for android devices by any means, but I did have an idea. (If Nvidia doesn't certify Nexus 7 for Miracast sometime in the near future.. it IS a tegra 3 device, so I'm hoping they do. It may be the solution to our problem.)
...This idea could be too fantastic to be a realistic possibility, but I thought it was worth a share..
What if an apk could "trick" the protocol for displaying video via wifi on droid devices?
What if the receiver could detect the incoming signal as a video file, and the app on the device could trick the nexus (or other non-MHL droid device) into treating the screen display as a video file?
Since the latency between displaying video on the Nexus and displaying it on a television via wifi isn't bad (from what I know), it COULD be practical enough for gaming, if it were done correctly.
TL;DR, the app would screen-capture the display, and send it to a receiver as if it were a compatible video file.
Am I just speaking fantasy-talk? Is this feasible? Thoughts?
The tegra3 has wifi streaming similar to apples airplay. The receivers just aren't out yet. Reading up that tmobiles SGIII will have a premium pack with some kind of aircard device that streams video over wifi for $99.
I think we are also waiting on Dlink. You can already do this with a rasberryPi for a good DYI solution.
I'm waiting for someone to make a box and a roku channel that captures streams on the network.

The german translation is honest: you need an MHL-Device to use this adapter. As we know the nexus 7 isn't configured with one. It won't work.

Mounted my N7 in my car

So I was sitting at home thinking how cool it would be to use my Nexus 7 as a navigation unit / general multimedia device in my car. I already have a touch screen unit in my car from Pioneer, but it’s not that great. It’s very pixelated, it doesn’t have navigation and it’s a bit small. So I devised a plan on how to mount it in my car. But before building my final mounting bracket, I decided to give it a test run, to make sure that everything would work great. I have all the maps preloaded on the device, and I have it connected to my Galaxy S3 (rooted, custom ROM) for wifi tethering.
I just picked up some “Kwik Klips 3/8” 10mm” from my local hardware store, and cut them up and guess what – it mounted fantastic. Three clips hold it on the bottom, and at the top it is tucked under my stereo door cover to make it very sturdy. I went on a 30 mile trip today just to make sure everything is smooth – and it is. This weekend my parts are supposed to come in so I can have a concealed charging cable for it so it is not using battery.
My car is a 2010 Scion tC.
I’ve uploaded four pics here, but go to my dropbox to see the gallery.

I keep my N7 tethered to my EVO during the day. That's how I use mine for navigation. I use the satellite layer also as I can't stand the 'cartoon' look.

Cool. That's what I figured. I tried to grab a N4 to do the same thing (in the process of rehabilitating from the apple cult), but couldn't get one, so I'm still using the iphone (no tether without paying extra).
Yes I am using my GS3 as a mobile WiFi hotspot for free (custom ROM).
I haven't tried the satellite view yet, I don't mind the cartoonish view too much. But overall using the N7 as a navi has been fantastic.

You might want to try Bluetooth internet sharing. Its honestly the most underrated feature of android >4.0. Sure, the range is 10-20ft, and the speed is limited to 2mbs, but in a car and for navigation apps neither of those matter. You save a lot of battery though and its easy to set up by just tapping a button on your tablet only.

Bluetooth internet sharing is definitely not the ultimate solution. Many apps won't work with it. Prime examples: Pandora and TuneIn Radio. Also, nothing will download from the Play Store (at least apps).
You'll save a lot of battery on the phone, sure. When I was trying out bluetooth tether my N7 got prettyy hot, and was fine with Wifi sharing. Perhaps it was simply an app causing that, but I don't think so.
I just removed the radio cover, and placed the N7 in the hole.
...and since I'm still a noob:

I'd do this, but I don't want to have my radio constantly in view at night. One of our cars was broken into and now I don't leave anything in view.

I'm still rocking the stock head unit; no one wants that.
I thought about trimming the extra plastic off the cover (just enough to fit) and set it back in place when I parked the car.
Depends on the Bluetooth setup. If you are not using Bluetooth to stream the sound, uncheck it in the Pandora settings and Pandora works great.
I download apps all day long using Bluetooth for my data. I find it easier then dealing with a hotspot. Battery life is significantly better for me to.

Does BT support multiple simultaneous pairings? I usually have my phone tied to the car via BT. If it can do that and data share, that'd be awesome. Well, maybe. Not sure if it'd help, but it'd be nice to know.

If you were talking to me, yeah I did get the charging cable installed, and no I didn't have to rough it up at all. The tape that was with those clips was sufficient.
But now I took that all off. I just bought this iBolt windshield mount for my GS3. It's easier for me this way, because I don't have to setup tethering and charge two devices.
It was fun though while it lasted.
And it blocked my radio, so that got really annoying after a few days of not being able to switch XM channels.

This looks very cool. Any confirmation that it indeed works? Most of the phones listed I think use mhl, not slimport and I'd think this would only work with mhl compatible phones which the G2 is not.
This has nothing to do with MHL. It should work with anything that supports USB OTG. It's not outputting any signal...
@op You should actually try this http://www.tivizen.com/icube/nano/index.html
The reason behind my suggestion and because I have searched the whole DVB-T micro usb android tuners a lot is that with the one you are suggesting the micro usb port is occupied by the tuner. As a result, you will not be able to charge your phone at the same time. So, imagine yourself with 10% battery and the F1 race just starting, Waht would you prefer... being able to charge your phone and watch the race at the same time or watch the first 10 (max) minutes and then wonder what has happened during the rest of the race.

Droid Turbo doesn't support video out over a wired connection. Your best bet is to buy a Miracast dongle like the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter or Belkin Miracast Adapter and an HDMI coupler (Female to Female).
Connect the coupler to the HDMI sticking out of the radion and connect the adapter to the coupler. You'll need to provide power the wireless adapter as well.
For the Pioneer radio set the settings to HDMI connection type for AppRadio Mode, pair the Bluetooth from phone the radio and go to your display settings on your phone and connect to the wireless adapter.
PM me if you need more help.
