[Q] Problems installing stock rom, possible bootloop? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey XDA
Been trying to go back to stock ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224752 odexed version) where I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618 using Method 1 under "Going back to stock" section. What I did was
1. Make backup of the ROM before I trying to go back to stock ROM
2. Format Data and wipe dalvik and normal cache several times so I was pretty certain of having a clean phone
3. Used sidepush to transfer ROM from PC to HTC One in recovery mode (FYI, using TWRP recovery)
4. Installed the ROM (While installing I noticed it said that first boot would take some time, but not how much or some sort of estimate)
5. Wiped dalvik and normal cache
6. Rebooted to system
Now it is just stuck on the standard HTC "quietly brilliant" startup logo and has been for 20+ minutes and still nothing happens. What have I done wrong and what can I do to fix this?

[Q] Nexus One Boot loop

Hi Everyone,
This is my first time attempting to root my nexus one.
I used the One-click root application posted on these forums and the ROM manager to try and install Cyanogen 6.0RC2. Now my phone boots into the loading screen with the particles flying together to form an x, followed by the same animation in blue instead of the android colors, with a skateboarding android icon in the center. About 10 seconds later, it seems to fail and go back to the multi-colored animation. This loop continues forever until I yank the battery.
How do I get back to a working environment?
Did you install the froyo baseband?
Did you have 2.2 on before you installed CM6?
Did you wipe as is recommended by Cyanogen?
Try installing CM6 again THE PROPER WAY... read their post on the forums and then report.
I already had Froyo on here. How do I bust out of this boot cycle to try again?
pull and reinstall battery and boot to recovery
a boot loop is normally caused by an incorrect flash, either by the recovery just being weird or the phone not correctly wiping prior to flashing. Did you make backup before you flashed?
If so here is what you do.
Boot into recovery
go to wipe
wipe "data"
wipe "cache"
and wipe "dalvik-cahe" (so long as you only select these three your sd card will remain untouched)
(if you want to resstore back to stock)
go to restore/backup
hit restore nandroid
select the restore point
(if you want to continue to install CM6)
go to "install zip from sd car"
select the zip
once done install the gapps zip (if you donwloaded it)
reboot
Done
How do I get it to boot into recovery?
When I remove the battery, and then power it on, it goes right back into the boot loop.
Nevermind. It's working now. I think I forgot to wipe first.
Thanks so much for your help, everyone!

LG optimus 2x bootloop after failed cyanogen mod

Hello!
Today, i decided to install cyanogemmod on my 2x. So i downloaded ROM manager and downloaded cyanogenmod. everything went fine until i was going to boot for the first time. I got into a bootloop. so i tried taking out the battery and all that stuff but it still would't work. So i tried to recover the phone. I recovered it to a month old backup (I could not find the one i made in ROM manager before i installed cyanogenmod) The recovery went fine. But, when i rebooted it got into a loop on the lg logo! (the one without the loading bar) it would just load the lg logo, be there for like 10sec, then it would do the same. I tried recovering one more time, but it didn't work. The same thing happend. What should i do? :S Should i wipe data/factory reset?
EDIT: My phone was on android 2.3.4 before i download cyanogenmod.
BTW before i installed cyanogenmod, i forgot to clear cache and data. I was in a hurry so i did't notice the screen popping up, I automatically pressed "ok" without selecting anything.
Thanks for the help

Different partitions... Look for something called backtoext3 in the dev section (or somewhere else) The problem is that when you flash a custom rom like CM you convert your filesystem to EXT4, while stock is EXT3.
So basically what you have to do is:
1) Reboot into recovery
2) Wipe everything
3) Flash Backtoext3 zip
4) Restore Nandroid.
This should work. this will take you back to stock.
So i have to restart the phone, Choose wipe data/factory reset, then flash backtoext3 (how do i do it? lol) then restore nandroid (the backup i just tried to restore twice?)

Yes
Flashing backtoext3 is just flashing the zip file you put on the sd card. (and then install zip from SD ) an then restore your nandroid stock backup and you're back on stock.
But you said you wanted to try CM right? In that case, wipe everything (factory reset/data + cache + dalvik) and then flash the CM7 rom and you have CM! Don't worry about backtoext3, your partitions are already on EXT4, because of your prior CM flash.
Ohh! Thanks Can you send the files for cm (2.3.4)? I've found some, but im not sure if my phone is compitable with them :S im really afraid to mess something up again
My. Signature. (CM7 temasek's KANG = the best CM7 at the moment )
I did everything and i got into a bootloop at the skating andriod screen again
OK, restored my phone back... Now it wont connect to the network and the battery has a question mark inside it. It also says the battery level is 999% heelp
Nvm, got my phone back to normal still dont understand why cm wont work...
You need cwm5 to flash cm.
I have a G2x, which is basically the same phone. But anyway, I would recommend nvflashing CWM and not getting it from ROM Manager.
CWM 5.0.2.0 will do just fine, but it is indeed old...
Anyway, are you sure you waited long enough on the CM boot screen? The first boot might take a couple of minutes. (4 or 5)

[Q] Hanging on initial boot with Virtuous Inquisition

Sorry XDA, I'm new here, but I happen to have an issue when booting up the aforementioned ROM for the first time.
First off, I have a bootloader unlocked, S-ON Vivid (rooted) on a stock ROM and kernel, with WCX Recovery.
1) Extracted boot.img from the .zip file
2) Placed the .zip in the root of the internal SD card
3) Backup
4) Flashed the boot.img twice
5) Went to recovery, wiped dalvik, cache partition, and performed a factory reset
6) Immediately went to recovery and installed .zip from internal SD
7) ROM is installed, but on initial boot, hangs (not on the white HTC screen, but at the Virtuous logo).
- looking at adb logcat, it seems to loop (Sorry if I get the terminology wrong here); Fails, retries, and it repeats.
So, what am I doing wrong, or is there something that I need (or forgot) to do?
In advance, thanks for having to deal with a noob.
Were you on ics prior to ronning this procedure?
Sent from my HTC Raider 4G LTE running ICS.
Yes, I was on the latest ICS build and HBOOT.

I had this issue myself only I was running twrp recovery. What I did was to flash a new recovery from fastboot (the cwm in the cubed‘s guide, I would link but I'm on my phone) then re flash the boot.img and then wipe, factory reset then flash rom. Ymmv.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
If you're still out of luck...
In CWM, go to mounts and storage, format /system, /data, /cache, then flash the ZIP. No need to factory reset; wiping data and cache does that for you by consequence.

[Q] Razr i - no possibility to flash custom rom or stock - bricked?

Hallo together,
I seem to have done something wrong while trying to flash the rom "RazRi_JB_X-2014-Jul-16".
Here is what i did:
- Unlocked to bootloader using official Motorola homepage
- Flashed CWM (non-touch) recovery using "Recovery Flasher by LeBobo v1.7", USB-Debugging was on
- Rebooted into bootloader and flashed "RAZRiRoot2" to prevent Stock-ROM from overwriting the recovery
- Tried to install the Custom ROM using CWM, but it fails to wipe cache (stuck on line "Formatting /cache")
Because it didn't work, i tried to reset everything as it was before to be able to try again - flashed stock-recovery using the Recovery Flasher by LeBobo, booted into bootloader and selected "Factory". The cell is now just showing the "Warning bootloader unlocked" warning and nothing else happens.
When i try to select the recovery in the bootloader menu, an image of a Android laying on its back with an opened hatch and a red warning symbol showing a "!" appears and nothing else happens.
I seem to have bricked my device, because i cant't really do anything now - is there any solution?
I read through different topics but could not find a real solution to this particular problem...
Thank you so much in advance for your help!
It's not bricked
At the moment u enter stock recovery with that android and red warning sy,bol, u need to press bot volume up + downp. Than it will enter stock recovery mode.
Those are the following things u can do to get custom rom,
1. Flash another recovery, cwm touch, cwm non-touch, twrp. They all work a little different.
2. Flash the custom rom and wipe everything, The wip can take some time. sometimes it will be seconds, sometimes it will take a couple of minutes. Every recovery behaves different, and every flash/wipe too.
3. enjoy
If u really want to go back to stock, flash your stock JB firmware by RSD-Lite.
Thank you very much for your answer. I restored the stock rom using RSD Lite and did a clean install of TWRP.
Then I did a Factory Reset and started to install the custom ROM.
The TWRP is now stuck at "Flashing File 1 of 1 /external_sd/RazRi_JB_X-2014-Jul-16.zip".
Is it normal that it takes more than five minutes or is something going wrong here? Is there something i forgot?

5 minutes is a bit too much. But that's the problem with this device. Every device behaves different and we haven't found out a solution too it.
At the moment i can't do much for you. I can only say try to wipe the partitions mannualy. Wipe system, data and cache. and mount system. And then try to install it. Maybe if that doesnt do the trick try again another recovery.
This from KTR-ROM
Code:
- Enter in TWRP or CWM
- Wipes required: data, system, cache y dalvik
*In CWM mount system must format before (Mount and storage -> Mount system)
Thanks again - that was it.
For some reason, TWRP did not automatically wipe the system-partition. It had to be mounted + wiped manually.
Not the custom ROM is up and running well. Installation took 35 minutes for some reason though...

[Q] Cant flash custom kernel anymore

Hey guys,
Lately my phone was beginning to slow down a bit and my storage was nearly full so earlier today I decided to factory reset my phone and reflash Android Revolution HD 71.1 (prior to the factory reset I was running the same ROM, along with the latest (I think) ElementalX kernel). ARHD installed fine but when I went to reflash the same kernel I found that each time I tried, the phone would turn off as it started installing (after I selected all my overclocking preferences etc). The majority of the preferences were set to default so no overclocking or overvolting, and as far as I can remember, the rest of the preferences were the same as I had set prior to today. Before trying to flash the kernel each time, I wiped the cache/dalvik cache and tried installing the kernel .zip from within TWRP with no luck. Is there anything obvious that I'm missing?
Cheers

Have you followed these instructions from the OP?
1. Install zip from recovery
2. Follow the instructions, if you don't know what to do, use the preselected options
3. Reboot
For installation, it seems a lot of people have finicky phones when it comes to flashing stuff with aroma.
If the installer gets stuck at 0% then you need to reboot to bootloader and do fastboot erase cache
If the installer reboots at 10%, you need to do a nandroid backup of /system partition and restore it. I think a dirty flash would also work.
After you install it, if you get a black screen or stuck at the HTC logo, no need to worry. Just hold down the power button untill the capacitive buttons start flashing and the phone restarts. The kernel installed correctly.
