USB DAC - Nook HD, HD+ Accessories

I moved to CWM 10.1 so could attach various USB devices like thumb drives and keyboards to my HD plus. I've been very pleased with how well it works, but I find it simply won't recognize my USB dac. Has anyone had any success or even tried getting the Nook to recognize a USB DAC? The tablet would be a terrific front end for my audio system if I didn't have to go through the earphone jack.

Unfortunately, this is not a common request. I remember trying to get it working on my Nook Simple Touch (never did, though). I believe that support has to be added in the kernel, so unless we can convince someone to hack up a custom kernel I bet it will never work.

Thanks, Tsunami.

you will need to compile the necessary linux kernel modules for your specific DAC.
just look what modules it uses on an ubuntu or debian installation and compile them für your device.

Thanks, Jann. I'll probably need the idiot's versin of that before I give it a shot.

What DAC are we talking about?

I've got a Fiio e7

Video Out

Is there any hack already that will let me to get a video out of the nexus one? If so where can I read more about it?
If not, is anyone working on suck hack? again, where can i get some more info on it?
Thanks, xda!
Search. And the answer is no.
(Technically, you could install Sven Killig's kernel with USB host support and HDMI dongle drivers, make cables, buy USB2HDMI dongle for $100 or so, and then you could have some way of video out. But given the question and the lack of skills to search the forum, I don't think these skills are enough to make such modifications - including the fact that this kernel can't be used for anything else, since it disables normal USB device functionality).

I have used the search, I just didn't find the answer, thought to ask maybe someone heard about any news on the topic.
I have seen the usb host hack, and that is what I'm thinking about, but was interested if there were some better options to do it (aka via the 3.5 like the samsung galaxy s does).
So back to my question, is anyone working on anything like that besides the usb host hack aka via the 3.5, or maybe a way to directly use a micro usb to hdmi cable?
I'd have a lot of money if I had $1 for every time it needs to be explained.
There will be no integrated video out of any kind for Nexus. Ever. Because there is no HW for it inside.

You didn't search enough.
The hardware is not there to output video though the 3.5mm jack, nor the usb port.

USB Audio out to DAC works with Trinity Kernel

It took about two weeks for me to figure out the Trinity Kernel supports USB audio out to my E17 DAC/headphone amp. Works great and is slicker than the previously working Poitee kernel which was getting stale.
Just root and install the Trinity kernel and make the change in your audio config as discussed in his thread and reboot while connected to a DAC and it will work.
Hopefully this will spare people the pain of trying to get DAC working.

It appears that the newest kernel does not support USB DAC?
Also, did you get it to accept "hotplugging" the DAC or is it required to do a reboot with the DAC connected (my Samsung Galaxy SIII allows me to hotplug an external DAC)?
If hotplugging is "doable" that would really help my project of building a dock.

USB Ethernet adapter and driver for Note

Hi,
i would really need a USB Ethernet adapter for my Galaxy Note. I searched forums and all i found was for tablets. I also noticed several times that people were talking that you can build the driver for specific device from official driver. If i understand right i could buy some USB Ethernet adapter and then build it's driver for galaxy note? Or not? Or is there maybe some "universal" driver already made?
I would be really thankful if someone explained this a little more.
Tnx

The drivers are included in the linux kernel of android, so the driver support is directly linked to the version of the kernel used on your device.
A small search gave me a result: look for USB to RJ45 Ethernet Adapter on amazon (you'll need a USB - micro usb adaptater tho.

So if i understand there are drivers already in kernel? Because i'm almost sure i red before that there are no drivers in kernel so this doesn't work out of the box.
I have OTG adapter so this is not problem. I'll try and buy some adapter and we will see if this will work. I have hydra-core kernel on stock rom.

Sadly you'll have to try by yourself, but apparently, the one i found on amazon (around 16£) works on android 3.1+ devices.

Aham Do you maybe have Name and model of that device?
How about this? MicroUSB to RJ45..no need of a OTG in between I havent try it though..just found it on ebay & amazon..

Ebay Adapter
Hi,
here is my unhelpful comment:
I have one of the little buggers (see attached image) boght on eBay:
Search for "USB to LAN RJ45 Network"
It works under Linux and identifies itself as:
"Davicom DM9601 USB Ethernet" and uses the Linux-Kernel-Module dm9601 (as it seems).
(NOTE: One strange thing: The newly bought device uses a MAC address, that was registered to an colleague on our network here. So it spoofs the address?!?!)
Combined with the Host-USB-Adater (OTG) it can be connected to the N7000 - BUT:
A) The LED lights up and blinks to show the trafic on the line
B) Nothing happens on the screen
C) In Elixir it shows up as
Name: /dev/bus/usb/002/002
ID: 2002
Product-ID: 38656
Vendor-ID: 4070
I Get no Menu to configure the wired connection.
So I guess there is no Driver.
I Used Hydracore v7 and Thor Kernel 0.26. (which is WAAAY slower then hydracore)
are there other things I could try?
This looks an interesting idea, wonder is its possible to to have PoE as well, disconnecting network access just to charge would be pretty annoying otherwise.

External DAC

Does someone tried an external dac on the G2? Does it work? Every DAC is compatible? I ask this because I have to buy an USB DAC for other purposes and, before buying, I want to choose one (if exist) that can be compatible with g2
You'll need to provide more details. Are you trying to OTG connect a DAC? If so, it probably won't work. Those not intended for Android use will not contain drivers for Android phones.
If you're looking to buy a NuForce Icon or FiiO E18, those will work because the G2 supports OTG, and the majority of custom ROMs retain that functionality as well.
So just post what DAC you're looking to buy. You're got every reason to be forthcoming. There's no way to tell without knowing the specific model DAC. If it's intended for Android use (i.e. the manufacturer advertised it as compatible) then it should work.
There quite a few that work with both nexus 7 ...so i wouldnt thinkg it being g2 would matter as long as its comptatible with other android over otg should work for g2 ..... Im getting a fiio e17 or e18 soon.
Sent from my LG-D803 using XDA Free mobile app
I don't have a dac but I need to buy one to be used with my hifi. I don't have choose a specific one and I ask here if there is someone that tried and get a dac working on g2.
Edit:
I have a usb headset, the corsair vengeance. That is not a dac but act like an external sound card. I connected it with usb otg cable and get the sound, but only the music played throught 'usb audio player pro' trial version. Is possible to get all the system soud directed to the external sound card/dac?
Edit2:
Found this thread

That means that we need modified kernel?
I have an fiio E17. It works with the G2 but i have clicks sometimes. For more than 16/48 I need USB Audio Player.
Hifimediy Sabre Asynchronous here, on CloudyG3 with the included kernel. Works fine, clicks sometimes when I start playback.
Got rid of clicks with the following additions to build.prop, normally used for Viper4Audio:
lpa.decode=false
lpa.releaselock=false
lpa.use-stagefright=false
tunnel.decode=false
Edit: False alarm unfortunately. But I have much less of them.
although this is a G2 FOrum I have a G3...
was looking for some answer to find out how to get rid of all the clicking or pops with an Asynchronous DAC/AMP. I have a HRT Microstreamer.
Anyway to fix or we all waiting for L?
Here dorimanx dev made a kernel that supports audio out to every usb device, so now every dac or usb soundcard are supported.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2725023
And here no lags or microshutters.
NuForce uDac 2 works well. Tested also cheap Beyerdynamic's USB soundcard and played too.

I can confirm the newest dorimanx kernels support precise streaming, limited to 16/48 by Android of course.

External screen?

Hey!
This is my first thread I've ever created, so don't be too harsh on me
As far as I know, the new Android 10 includes a so called "desktop mode". So you can connect a compatible device via USB to an external screen. I think thats pretty cool and samsung already implemented this idea from the S8 upwards with Samsung Dex.
I understand that this needs USB 3.1, but the Motorola G7 Plus only has USB 2.0!
According to the datasheet of the build-in Snapdragon 636 processor, it does support USB 3.1!
So here comes the question: Is it possible to "activate" the required functionality in order to use the desktop mode?
So like changing a few things inside the root files (Like you can activate for example OTG)?
If not, is the hardware build that way, that it just doesn't have the data-lines?
And also, if all of that doesn't work, you surely saw such USB 2.0 to HDMI adapter, which do work on older computers, but do they might work with Android 10 connected to otg?
It would be really cool if something of that might work.
Thanks for your response!

Unfortunately this device does not support MHL so usb to HDMI dongles do not work. Apparently moto hasn't supported MHL for some time .

Thanks for your answer. But I knew that before. I am trying to finde some "workarounds" for this, because I do really like this phone!
Found a solution
So, after a bit of research, I found a solution to add external screens to any OTG compatible Android phone!
There are so called "DisplayLink adapters" and those seem to be compatible with any Android phone that supports OTG.
After installing the official app "DisplayLink Presenter", you should be able to get everything working.
I din't tested it yet, but I hope that this will help someone in the future.
