For months Google Music hasnt been able to 'identify my computer'. This will happen regardless of internet connectivity. I was able to upload some music when it first launched and I received an invitation then for seemingly no reason, the program cant identify my computer. I can pull the ethernet cable and have zero connectivity and Ill receive the same error.
I dont have any virtual machines or anything like that, that I know of. And Im directly connected via hardwire. Any info or screenshots that I can provide to help diagnose, I will.
This has been problematic for months and I would love to resolve the issue even if I dont use google music on my phone. Although I would if it worked... Thanks for any positive insight!
What happens when you log on to google music's site? Is your account configured correctly there?

Thanks for the response. Seems like I'm logged in and that there arent any issues.
I can play music from the website as seen in the second screen...Im scouring the site for other settings...
The settings screen looks good...only 204 songs uploaded before I wasnt able to upload
Edit: fourth screen shows the generic google message. Now if I can identify why google music would be recognizing a virtual machine, that would be nice
If you're still having no luck use the "Report a problem" button.
I've found when things break in regards to the ebooks I've purchased Google is very responsive.
Also posting on the google forums their developers may respond to your issue
Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the program on your computer?
Also google support is great at fixing problems like this.

Yes. And in my experience, google support sucks. I need an order number to talk to anybody but I dont buy music from google. Email support is useless telling me that they dont support virtual machines even though I'm certain there is no trace of a vm on this pc. although i could be wrong, so thats what im trying to figure out.

Google claims the VM results in the 'couldnt identify your computer' error. As far as I know, there is no trace of a VM on this machine. Thats what Im trying to figure out, what it could be thats triggering this. Frustrating to say the least.

Let's assume you do have a virtual machine. Navigate to control panel, and open "network connections" and look for "network bridge" if it's enabled, disable it. Reboot your computer and try running google music. Let me know what happens.

The first time I logged on and uploaded what I could, I was tethering with my 3g. Then along came wifi and it hasnt worked since then. So, technically the only that changed should have been my isp, maybe mac address.
I cant even log in with any other email address to upload music into an alternate google account.
Ive attempted altering the mac address but either Im not doing it correctly, the changes arent sticking or it just doesnt work as a fix. I appreciate your help.

Ok, so there is the problem. Your Google Music account was created using one IP/Mac address, and now you're trying to access it with another. This is a restriction set by Google. You can always create a new account from your wifi connection. Aside from contacting Google about this issue, there is no other immediate remedy.

Ive made three different accounts and NONE of them will allow me to upload music. No matter what I do, my computer cannot be identified.
I can pull the ethernet cables and disable my connection in the bios and it will STILL tell me it cant identify my computer. What a waste. Im glad it works well for some people though.

I have the GT-7000 and I am to understand that both mobile hotspot and usb tethering come as default features. ive seen a simple guide on how to get it working and it basiscally states the obvious: Check it on. The wireless hotspot is no problem, its working, but the usb hotspot option is forever grayed out and I cannot turn it on. Tried every stupid simple thing but it never becomes selectable. I downloaded and installed pdanet and that works fine but i want to know why the native setting isnt functional so I can just hot swap between computers without having to go through that install process on each computer wherever I may be. Anyone?
EDIT: For some odd reason the next time I tried on another day the option became select-able. I still dont know the reason it stayed grayed out before but at least its working now. So yay =)

Is there any option which allows you to enable "only charging" when connected to PC USB port (not MTP or PTP).
I have read that if screen is locked when pluged into PC USB, JB will not allow file transfer. That is not my case. Even if locked, autoplay starts and I am able to see files on device.
I am asking that from security reasons. If I am somwhere were I just wan to charge battery and I don't want enable file transfer between device and PC.
Thanks.

Hi! If I have locked screen, I can't access my data. But it depense on, how lock screen is set up. If I set "maze lock" i can't access data, but if I set only "slide" to unlock my phone, I can access data even if phone is locked.
I didn't try with maze because I don't use it. Maybe there is some setting, tweak or something which allows charging only mode?
If I just want to charge using someones pc I don't want to bring home troyans etc. on my SD.

I think that you have to have securited lock screen at first. If you have only slide for unlock than there is no reason for blocking access to phone and card memory while connected to PC.

I dont think like that. There is a reason. Just one example. If you are at friends house and your bat is low. You connect your phone to his pc while you are drinking coffee. Nobody is touching phone. There is no need of sec lock. Ok? You come home, connect phone to your pc and... Your AV protection start to freak out.
I think there need to be an option "charge only" even if sec lock is switched off.

Yes. Thats one way. But it is not so good solution because you need always to carry your cable with you. Software cutting of data traffic would be much better solution.

Maybe an app/script that would rename the system app responsible for USB storage management so it's not accessible by the system when you connect phone to PC? Just an idea.

One of my reasons for getting the Gear was the ability of side loading apps. Unfortunately, I'm running into some problems...
I've tried two computers, different cables, ADB, and Wondershare - all to no avail. I've tried it with the Samsung USB drivers installed and without. Both computers see my device as "GT-S5690" and a generic "ANDROID_Samsung" shows up in my device manager.
Any ideas? All the people I see connecting properly don't even look like they're installing any drivers-looks to be pretty easy and automatic.
The computers I've used are Windows 8 and XP and I have tried factory resetting the gear. Any help is appreciated!
Have you enabled Usb debugging on the gear menu?

they dmshow gt-s5690 untill you install mobile me from wondershare
galaxy note 3 now Free
i didn't install any drivers
1. enable USB debugging on the GG
2. connect GG to PC and let it automatically install the drivers
3. run adb command: adb install applicationname.apk
4. enjoy !
At step 3 i copied "applicationname.apk" to \sdk\platform-tools\ (the same folder where you can find adb.exe)

on the GG go to
settings -> gear info -> USB debug
Well I have no idea why, but it finally started working...
I guess the key was to just keep doing it (literally 25 times) until the computer finally recognized it.
And it only works on my 8 year old laptop with XP - still no dice with Windows 8.
Is the side loading still draining people's batteries ?
Yea, I think it is. Did a few things through adb and suddenly got a warning I had less than 20% left. Wouldnt believe it, only 2h or so fiddling with adb....

The Mobileme app that gets auto installed with the wonder share file keeps looking for wifi and I think causes battery drainage. That is what was killing my battery and ended up uninstalling it and the calculator app I loaded by resetting the gear. Now my battery is back to normal. It was a good experiment but not at the cost of killing my battery in less than 5 hours.

I'm kind of in the same boat. i've disconnected and reconnected countless times, in download mode, in regular mode. on two different PC's (windows 8, windows 7) and nothing. you hear that the gear is connected, you see on the gear that it's charging. i've enabled and disabled USB debugging, but still no dice. it doesn't show up at all. nothing in device manager. i did root it but never even got a chance to sideload any kind of apps. i've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers too. i'm at a loss.
I installed MK7 GB version, but now I don't have anymore the USB Debugging option in Gear Info. any idea ?
