I really don't like the 7.0 version of Google Maps, so much so that I rooted my phone (HTC One) to install the 6.x version. I use the Navigation app all the time in my car. My problem is that no matter what I do, it keeps getting updated to the 7.x version every few days. I have it detached from the Market with TiBackup Pro, and turned off all Market updates for all apps on the phone. It doesn't matter, in a couple of days I'll jump into my car, hit the Navigation button from the Car menu screen and get "welcome to 7.0!". I can restore it from my backup in about 5 minutes, but who want to do that everytime I get in the car. Any ideas?

Playstore>settings>do not auto update, that's it.
Why did you go into so much trouble. I find 7.0 a major improvement. Anyways, just uncheck the auto update for Maps in the three dot menu

when you go in the playstore and you click inside of the Maps application,
if you hit the menu button next to the share button, make sure the "Auto update" box is also unchecked,
not just the one in play store settings. That's how I got my snapchat to stop updating.
Hope that helps!

Nope, when I do that, it goes to the same setttings page as the store, which is already set to 'do not update', nothing specifically for that application. I"m running 4.3, maybe that's different.

Same issue with Meridian Pro player, the widget would make it crash.
Deleting the widget, clearing application data, then re-adding the widget fix it.
Note that clearing the application data makes it forget your unlock code for the pro version. Make sure you have a copy of your code before clearing the data.

Do you really need to keep evangelizing CM? This is XDA, we know about CM7. If we wanted to be running it we would be already.

Yeah, me too.
Just close the Market and then re-open and you're back at the new one. You may need to kill Market in app management, or just wait a couple of minutes to go back in.
I'm having the umts hsdpa switch issue. It switches back and forth every few seconds, and I have strong signal. Anyone seeing this?
Ever since the gingerbread update and new Google maps version, my nexus one "gps" icon in the notification bar has been popping up throughout the day. So I began checking under "running services" and now Google Maps is constantly running, I am 100% positive this was not the case before because I checked it repeatedly throughout the day while monitoring battery life like an OCD patient.
Does anyone know the reasoning behind this?
try signing out Google Latitude and see if the problem persist.
I've noticed it since they updated to Maps 5.1. Its definitely related to Latitude. If signing out doesn't solve your issue, I have an apk for Maps 5.0 that you can use. I rolled back when 5.1 first came out. I'm gonna see how much 5.2 caused maps to stay running.
How do I sign out of latitude? I have never used this service.
If you have never used this service, then you don't need to sign out. Under Google Maps option do you see "Latitude" or "Join Latitude"? If it is the latter, then you don't have to sign out anything. If you see "Latitude", click that and go to your Latitude privacy settings to sign out.

Settings>Applications>Developement>Stop app via long press
Anyhow I always use back button to exit out of any "GPS" related applications
That option is NOT in my applications>development folder either, check your info.
That said, what I am looking for is a way to disable latitude/google maps from constantly restarting itself in the background and staying on and now using 2-5% of my battery everyday even though I am not using the program. I know how to kill it under running services but it always restarts now.

That 'Stop app via long press' is actually a CM feature, not Gingerbread. It was introduced with CM6, which predates GB.

This is what worked for me (on TnT Lite)...
1) Install My Fake Location from Market. Set my preferred location (I used the map to find my location coordinates).
2) Install Location Spoofer from Market. All I did was install it. I didn't do anything with it.
3) Run My Fake Location by selecting Set GPS Location. Uou will receive a notification that My Fake Location is Started.
4) Install Google Earth version 1.2.1. The APK is located in this posting.

Thanks for this fix... Worked for me!
Thanks you!
Google Earth works right of the bat on Vegan 7.
I have TnT Lite 4.4 and it didn't work with the steps mentioned in this thread. I have tethered my EVO 4G with the g tablet and get GPS working in Maps and navigation but Google Earth wouldn't work at all. It would install, but hang in launching. I then tried with the apps My Fake Location and Location spoofer, but no luck.
My fake location doesn't show up in market anymore for me since switching to TNTLite from stock OS and a sub-TNTLite market fix. I got the apk anyway, and Google Earth. Earth just gets stuck searching for location and eventually force closes or crashes my gtablet. MFL usually crashes it too, turning on or off. I found another fake gps app in market and it also crashes.
And when I say crashes it, the screen goes black and the gtab doesn't turn back on for a while.
I can't believe I had a fake gps and google earth working with stock OS but can't get them working with the mod.
I used a modified version of Butch1326's tutortial. I am running Vegan Beta 5.1.1 and this method does work on my tablet. Here is the method I used:
DO THESE STEPS IN ORDER! If you already have Earth installed, uninstall it before you do step 1.
1) Install Location Spoofer from Market.
2) After installation, go to: Settings --> Location & Security. Check on "Use wireless networks" and "Use GPS satellites" if these are not already. These options NEED to be checked on for this to work. Location Spoofer complains if they are not.
3) Go back and open Location Spoofer and click "select from map". I found a location near where I live to work with, you can do this for where ever you live. I don't think the actual location matters. Once you have found a location, select "Use this Location" at the top of the screen.
4) Change the duration to 5 minutes. This is just so you have some time to work with and the app won't stop running in the middle of the setup process.
4) Check the option, "Spoof GPS Location Too"
5) Click "Start spoofing"
6) Now install Google Earth found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10426487&postcount=9
(If this link doesn't work go to Butch1326's original post for the link)
7) Once Earth installs, click done. Then open your app drawer and open Earth. It will start to load. Your tablet may crash at this point, mine did. Though, I was a little eager and was trying to use the app while it was loading. Let it sit a few minutes and see what happens. If it runs on the first try, your done. You can stop Location Spoofer and uncheck the options under Location & Security. Enjoy Google Earth. IF YOUR TABLET DID CRASH GO TO STEP 8.
8) After your tablet reboots, let it sit a minute or two. Give the OS time to finish booting and the OS to stablize.
9) Open Earth again. Don't worry about Location Spoofer, we don't need it anymore.
10) After Earth launches, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR TABLET. It is necessary to let Earth load all the way before you do anything. I didn't touch mine for two or three minutes and advise you to do the same.
11) You're done. Earth should be running now.
If this did not work for you, there is a possibility one of the steps got messed up or you are not running Vegan 5.1.1, as this is the only rom I have tested this on. And the standard line: If you mess up your tablet, I'm not responsible.
Google Earth 2.x works without fuss
The best way to install Google Earth on the gTablet is just to find a copy of the latest version 2.0.1. It installs and runs without fuss, doesn't care if my bluetooth GPS puck is connected or not, and uses it if it is.
Just install and enjoy!
Hmmm?

Amused, I posted this this morning and it is the 1st thread at the top in this topic.
"+1! First of all I am running TNT Lite 4.4. I too had tried the standard Market fix many times and just could never see all the cool apps I wanted. Went ahead and changed the build.prop as iamchoco had suggested and BINGO! Although the ro.build.fingerprint already had this line correct, I changed the ro.build.tags and the ro.build.device lines to match iamchoco's instructons. Did the standard Market fix again and it works awesome. It even seems a little faster than before. All the apps I could never get are there and downloadable and have been downloaded and installed...
The programs that I had sideloaded previously are now showing up in the Market and I am updating them through the Market now."
I haven't learned yet how to extract my .apk's yet from my GTab but if you do this fix above, the Market should work for you and show the latest Google Earth.
Alright thanks I'll give it a go

No go...what iamchoo suggested wad exactly what I was using...is it a location issue? I'm in asia.
Could you help to post the apk? Its mightily easy with root explorer. Just go to /data/apps/???.apk long press and select copy. Then paste it somewhere accessible, like the root of your internal memory which is /sdcard/ .
The ??? is the apk name. Should be something earth?
Sent from my GTablet-TnT-Lite using Tapatalk
Let me know if this is right. I did as you asked. It is an apk file but the only one I found in that directory was com.google.earth.apk. Here it is...
Thanks! WOrks perfectly
You're welcome Amusedkid,
Lets get your market working. What ROM are you running? I can help you get the Full Market if you have the same ROM as me. I tried everything and could never get the Full Market. But with the tweaks from iamchocho AND then the normal Market fix, it works perfectly now. I am running TNT Lite 4.4 on GTab FRF91. Let me know if you want the exact procedure I used...

I have tried everything I know to try to fix it cleared app caches - factory reset - nothing. I know of five gs5 users affected by this - it seems to have happened the week following the 4.4.4 update.
I hate it
I, too, am having this same issue. I can't stand it!! I've tried everything I can think of and nothing fixes it. And, like you, it's been happening since this latest update. They need to fix it or provide us with a way to do it. I was about to reset my phone to factory settings when I saw this thread, and it looks like that won't help either.
I have read on a another website that restarting the device fixes it temporarily - but I have not seen this. Reached out to ATT on twitter, but haven't received any helpful response.
Restarting fixes it for me for a day or so.

Did an update on my google apps and it fixed it temporarily. Now it's back to sucking again...
When hold the button on 4.4.2, greenify comes up as an option, as well as do nothing. hitting this disables the function entirely. I'm not sure if this is an option on 4.4.4, and maybe it's because I have the donate version of greenify.
Edit:Saw on another thread there is an option in the system menu of Wanam to disable the long press entirely and mine is turned off
I think I found the fix. Go to App Manager>All, find Google Search and uninstall updates. Reboot your phone. It worked on my phone. I thinks the latest Google search update is the culprit. Also disable auto update in google play.

Edit...Uninstalled the update for the actual Google app and it might have fixed it. The restart was mandatory as it was still acting up even after removing the update.

If you didn't lose data, I assume you used Wugz ‘Flash Stock + Unroot’ with ‘No Wipe Mode’, which "preserves your userdata and cache". That is essentially how I got from 5.1.1 to 6.0 and then to 6.0.1 with fastboot.
How did you turn off Google play services? Disable and Force Stop are grayed out in Settings, Apps. I'm already at Google Play services 8.4.89, which is newer than the 7.3 that the Play Store shows. I think I'll give it a try...

Immediately rebooted then it auto updated then I got to use Google wallet and the rest of my apps downloaded updates... I'm pritty sure if you have root it will not work period

Yes, I am rooted at the moment with Chainfire's systemless root 2.64. My plan is to reflash with fastboot, not root, activate Android Pay long enough to buy something and get my $20, and then root again. I still don't see any advantage to pulling out my phone to pay for something, when I can swipe a real card faster. I'm a sucker for free money though.
