[Q] lost TA , DRM keys - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so i unlocked bootloader without backup of TA (didnt know about the importance of DRM KEYS )
now i relocked the bootloader , flashed stock firmware (tried both .534 and .275)
in both cases , camera is not working
tried reset customization either by '0#0#7378423#0#0 way" or "flashtool way" ,,, still cam not working
....
keys (MARLIN , WMLA , CKB) are active but got unkown error
so , is there anyway to get camera back to working ?
i know DRM keys are exclusive to every device , but there must be a way to fix this
its not easy to accept the fact of losing camera forever

Yet another lesson to be learned.
READ THE GODDAM FORUMS BEFORE FLASHING/MODDING YOUR PHONE
You have permanently broken your camera. There is no way to get it back. Don't even think about flashing someone elses TA backup as it will hard brick your phone.

there has been rumours (And nothing official from Sony) that they are trying to fix the loss of camera when you unlock. And there has been absolutely no news/talk from Sony that any fix will be backwards compatible to fix the camera of those who unlocked without backing up their TA.
All you can do is cross your fingers and hope.
But on the bright side, have fun playing with them custom kernels

thnx for your Help

You're right, there have been no rumours of a retroactive fix, but then again I can't really picture a fix which wouldn't apply retroactively since really all the fix will consist of is new camera drivers.

Maybe, but its still fingers crossed, because that may not be the problem. Over the past few days I have heard people talk about camera drivers but if that's the case we can write them ourselves and I have not heard a dicky bird about it... which leads me to think its not drivers...
But its all speculation..

I think you might be underestimating just how difficult it is to reverse engineer a piece of hardware and write drivers for it. There is a reason we never got the iPhones camera to work over at iDroidProject.

here is a rich discussion about this issue ,
many Devs are trying , the thing is that auto-focus at capturing refer to drm keys before taking picture and video
so they are trying to hack this process
here is the topic " showthread.php?t=2537002 "
...
on other hand , many users asked sony through twitter about any upcoming fix
the official twitter of sony mobile replied many times that they are working on it and a fix is coming soon
...
i guess it could be solved on next 4.3 firmware update .. thts more likely to happen more than that sony is so dump to prevent z1 users from having UBL
yes its such a good machine, but with that bug i guess many gonna sell, or even dont buy

I take no notice from this from a guy who unlocked his bootloader without backing his TA...
All just speculation

Hehehe....no matter where I go here on Z1 sections, there is always a guy who make this mistake with no return. Glad I didn't do that yet, I was so close, I brought this phone just to do that and flash custom ROMs.
Anyway, the only thing what I can said, like in other threads with same BL problems , is if Sony know how much will make happy everybody if they will release the fix or driver to unlock bootloader without losing the camera. I think the grip of developing new stuff will increase around 200%. People will be so happy, they will leave to all the community good feedbacks about Sony Devices so that will also increase the selling of they products because everybody want to have the best phone ever and do with it everything what they can. If they do not understand that I don't know what policy they have if not make happy our customers. Sure a lot people are happy with the stock product but they are aware about this issues so why do not make our life much more easy.

Did you try to take the phone to an official Sony Repair Center? Maybe they can fix it, even if not for free (since the warranty is void).

Cheers guys...its confirmed.... .290 update enables the camera even after unlocking bootloader..go update now! Warning though, you will lose your root.

Rooted Firmware will be released in next days. Stay Tuned.

But if you have unlocked the bootloader you don't need root.
Just flash an insecure kernel...
If I get time I will try championshipswimmers kernel kitchen tonight to make a stock based rooted kernel for unlocked bootloaders

Thanks guys....you guys rockzzzzz!

Have you checked behind the sofa they may have fallen behind that? LOL

even though they fix the camera, does unlock bootloader break other things still since you lost TA partition? like movies drm

Is not braking anything but someone are complaining about picture quality after unlock bootloader, but is not confirmed.

Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.)

I've made this thread to help people who have some problem and make new threads instead of searching the common questions. In my next post I will start posting the FAQ's and since it's not possible for me to be online 24/7 so it may take sometime but i will keep updating it. And if anyone have some doubts feel free to ask. BTW Ifeel free to PM me if you have some ideas or nice questions to improve this thread
Q1: I get bootloop after installing a custom rom. What is the problem?
A: Have you done everything correctly?
-Firstly post your problem in the ROM thread as the devs there may help you better.
-Check your mobile compatibility with the ROM
-Check if you have installed the correct kernel for your ROM.
-Check whether you have done the correct wipes as mentioned in the ROM thread.
-Some ROMs require formatting system. So if it is mentioned in main ROM thread then you must do it.
-Some releases may require stock rom first before flashing the custom rom. So flash the stock rom and then the custom rom over it.
If nothing works just download the stock ROM for your mobile and flash it using flashtool. This may solve your problem.
Q2: Can you suggest me the best ROM or kernel or something like that for my smartphone cause i'm really lazy to do a bit of searching...?
A: as per XDA rules a user is not supposed to ask for Best rom, one can go to dev forum and try some roms and decided which is best for them
Q3: I have rooted my phone successfully, now how can I install CWM (ClockWorkMod) Recovery?
A: go here download the the cwm and follow the thread properly to flash there
Q4: I have a problem with this ROM and what should I....
A: It's a ROM specific question, better post it in the ROM thread. They will help you better.
Q5: What is the safest way to root my phone or unlock its bootloader?
A: There no such thing as safest way. If you do everything correctly you will be successful in rooting you phone and unlocking the bootloader
Rooting - go here

A:use this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
Q8: How do I build a kernel for SP
A: go here
Q9: From where i do download stock ftf files
A: go here where u need to flash these files through FLASHTOOL
Q10: How do I OC(OverClock) or UC(UnderClock) my phone?
A: If your kernel supports the function and if your ROM has inbuilt option for the fuction then you can do it directly from ROM or else you can buy/download apps like SetCPU for your phone and can use it easily to OC, UC or change governer of your CPU. *Playing with your CPU is at your own risk and if you go anywhere wrong your phone might not be able to recover(permanent brick). So if you are a newbie(noob) just stay away from these things*
Q11: How does Thanks Meter affect my profile?
A: Thanks Meter actually is not useful in becoming Recognized Contributor/Themer/Developer. It is actually the appreciation you get on you works. Thanks Meter has been made so that members of XDA stop posting just THANKS on threads and thread could be clean and helpful.
Q12: How to be a Recognized Contributor/Themer/Developer?
A: Recognized Contributor is a role intended for members who produce some of the best original and helpful guides for users, as well as helping other users who have problems, in a friendly manner. Recognized Contributors will get a custom user title and the faster ad-free XDA template, as well as access to developer tools currently being created. Any Senior Moderator on XDA can add Recognized Contributors, should you feel deserving of this title.
Recognized Themers are those users who work (often tirelessly) on designing new theme graphics and user interface overhauls for ROMs. Users who aspire to be Recognized Themers should be creating original graphics work for their themes being released, demonstrate a commitment to crediting other users’ work when applicable, and seek the relevant permission in advance from the original creator. Recognized Themers will receive a custom user title and the faster ad-free XDA template, as well as access to developer tools currently being created. Any Senior Moderator on XDA can add Recognized Themers, should you feel deserving of this title.
Recognized Developer, as the name suggest are those who develop really good ROMs, kernels, etc. Anyone who is skillful and publishes his own creation other that just copying and pasting can be termed as recognized developer.
For more details and how to apply for these posts. See this.
Q13: Why does my phone say Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No?
A: It's most probably a simlock. The mobile you bought has a simlock of the particular company whose SIM is being used. Normally the companies used to provide the unlocking code after sometime but now I think it won't be provided from now since simlock unlocking has become illegal. But you can break your simlock through WotanServer, Omnius or some local shops.
Q14: Can you tell me how does thanks meter increases with regard to number of thanks?
A:No. of Thanks and meter:

Q15: What are BB Codes and what BB Codes can I use in my thread?
A: Mainly every kind of text formatting that we do in XDA thread is governed by BB codes. Here is the list of all the BB Codes we can use in XDA and explanation of each code.
Q16: Is there anyway to mount my sd-card using CWM recovery?
A: Yes! Many versions of CWM support mounting sd-card through it. For that go to Mounts and Storage->Mount sd-card and you're done! But remember if you press back button then your sd-card will unmount instantly.

I need 12.0.a.2.254 for c5302. Can i get the link to download the ftf file?
hi. i just bough my xperia sp last week. i have a very noob question since im all new to these: will this rooting method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440375 (doomlord's method) work on a stock xperia sp? (literally out of the box, with the latest firmware v.254). thanks a lot. im quite undecided if im gonna root mine cause im afraid ill brick it.
Unlocking No or Yes?
I have a question: in my fisrt attempt to unlock bootloader, on the step to confirm that it is possible to unlock the boot loader, the configuration "Bootloader unlock allowed" sayd "No". So, i´ve flashed the newest firmware for C5303 (2.254) and now, the configuration "Bootloader unlock allowed" said "Yes". It´s "YES" really? Or am i risking to brick my phone on unlocking bootloader? (Sorry my bad english)
DELETED. Worked it out myself
Root 12.0.A.2.254
Hi Guys.
Sorry for the newbie question, but I didn´t find the answer...
If I follow the thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440375) to root my phone I will loose my data and configurations?
It is necessary to make the Wipes?
My phone was with firmware 211 and I had done the root successfully, but he upgraded to 254 and lost the root. When I open the SuperSU it presents the message that the binaries are not installed. Is it really necessary to do this procedure or is there another way to retrieve the binaries SuperSU.
Thanks,
Rafael

Hello
I don't think there is any wipe needed in this method.
If you really don't want to setup your whole phone again, try without any wipe. In the worst case you might get some force close. Do some backups anyway before trying to root because you might loose data accidentally. It sometimes happen and more often when you try to tweak / root your phone.

Even if you are rooted you can still flash an official ftf (for example official 4.3 when it's available). You might need to use flashtool instead of pc companion though ( I'm not really sure of that but I think you can easily find more info about that when you need it).
Bootloader unlocking is only to use a custom kernel. It is for example needed if you want to install a ROM based on aosp (pure android) instead of the stock Sony software. You won't need it and you should avoid that if you are not really sure of what you are doing.
Back to your Wi-Fi problem, the fixes available for root user don't really enhance it. They only make it a little more stable. It's not really worth it to root just for that and unless you have lot of free time to spend in this you should wait for version 4.3. There's many chances it will be fixed.

So what term did you Google? Because I seriously doubt you've tried. Anyway, if you do decide to unlock the bootloader, promise me you'll backup your TA partition first. Don't even Google for that, just browse the XDA Z1 forums. I promise you you'll find the links you're after.
You say you googled it...This is the only way to do it

As for wanting to pay someone to do it for you, please read this

then you will be better at doing it for yourself

I just provided you with help.
Look at the link I gave you, its not sarcastic, it takes you to the site where you unlock your bootloader.
I also spend a lot of my time on here helping people, and many people have helped me. Apologies if you think I was time wasting, I am just trying to get you going on the right track without leading you by the nose. Trust you learn more by doing it yourself, finding out by yourself and asking for guidance is the best way.

Apologies if you think I was time wasting, I am just trying to get you going on the right track without leading you by the nose. Trust you learn more by doing it yourself, finding out by yourself and asking for guidance is the best way.

its not just as simple as googling, i asked if my bootloader can be unlocked and if i can take root control of the latest firmware? it would take a developer less then 10 secs to say or no to this question. if you look up at the last post i attached a screenshot showing my phone doesn't have a unlocked boot loader.

OK no bootloader unlock for you then.
Also, the firware you are on cannot be rooted.
You need to flash a .534 FW (Find them in the mega collection int he general section) and flash it on flashtool from here. Then you can root it using kingo.
If you want to upgrade to the latest FW then you will need to install dual recovery (Look in the original dev section) then flash a pre rooted rom from the dev section.

Not by any means we currently have.
However, there is work on a kexec which can side load custom kernel.

Our point is that asking such questions is just cluttering up the forums and wasting peoples time since the answers are easily available by browsing the stickied topics (or searching for that matter). If we just answer all of your "10 second questions", then we set a standard where it's OK to post a topic like this, and as a result we will likely end up with hundreds of topics asking the same simple question as this one. It's just not an appealing idea and so we meet questions like this with a bit of resistance in order to set a more maintainable and educationally conductive standard.
Do you understand my point?

But actually, the most common reason for locking bootloaders is to stop the customer from unlocking the bootloader, finding a hack to unlock the baseband and switching carriers, it makes sense that with a carrier locked device the bootloader isn't unlockable.

Yes, but you can sim unlock and still have the bootloader unlockable, and vice versa.

camera problems , focus , light and video

Greetings, i bought in ebay a sony xperia z1 and they guy told me that the bootloader its unlock and rooted. the phone runs really fast and all but the camera its useless without the focus and the light is not working also the video when i select video mode stay in grey screen and im really thinking in do the backup ta and left the phone like sony did. who can recommend me and advice and sorry for all bz im new here i dont know if we have another post with the same problem
If you bought it unlocked you can't restore ta to have working camera. To be honest I would never trust buying unlocked and rooted phones from ebay..
There's nothing you can do except waiting for Sony to fix the issue with unlocked bootloaders.
Sent from my Xperia Z1 using xda app-developers app
As krabappel says, without the original ta backup you can not get it working for now... Try to return it I'd say. Everybody is waiting for Sony to fix this issue, but my guess is that it will only be a fix for future unlocks and not for fixing already broken cams.
You've posted this issue 3 times, including creating a new thread in the General section.
RULE 5. Post a message only once.
As a large forum we don't need unnecessary clutter.
You're free to edit your message as you like, so if you do not receive an answer, revisit your message and see if you can describe your problem better.
Not everyone is online at the same time so it might take a while before you receive an answer.
Also, threads to ask a question should be created in the Q&A forum of the device... not the General forum
Thanks
He sent me the TA but I don't know how to do the restore. BTW sorry I'm new here apologies again .
Who knows theprocedure to put the phone normal bz i really want to use the cameera

Thanks!! I will look for that , hope that the TA he sent it will be the same if the phone get damaged it will be his fault

Is there an OTA path from MRA58K to MRA58R?

I know I can wipe and flash the system image or dirty flash, but I'd rather sideload OTAs, to be honest.
If I had been patient for a few days I wouldn't be asking because the OTA file floating around would've taken me straight to MRA58R, but I sideloaded K.
I know there's an OTA from K to N, but is there one from either of them to R?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiight... I already said that. What I was asking is if there's an OTA out there from K or N to R. The only OTA to R seems to be from Lollipop.
I went straight to R from K. Did it in fastboot without losing data.

I know I can do that, as I said in the OP, but I was looking for an OTA path as I stated in the title and OP.
I'm not rooted, bootloader is still locked. I'm not unfamiliar with the process of flashing the system image. My OG Droid was running Bugless Beast and my Asus TF201 was running Paranoid Android. I just don't want to go that route with this phone. I want to go with OTAs, even if I have to sideload.
Why. Lol. Waste of time.

so.. if you were walking to a location, and it happened to be on the other side of a cliff, and someone built a bridge there for easy access, you would still prefer to walk all the way around? flashing a factory image is the same thing. you dont need root to do it, you can be completely stock, and will end up completely stock. if you dont know how to do it, is one reason. but, you can always learn how to, it is not difficult.
Thanks for answering the question I actually asked, guys...

My sarcasm is rooted in the fact that I acknowledged their solutions in my OP, said I was looking for the official OTA path and didn't want to use the other solutions, and then either things I said in the OP were repeated as if I didn't say them or alternatives were suggested as if I didn't say I wasn't interested in that path. It seems as though my OP went completely unread. If you opened your eyes you could read them in my OP.
I also figured the path I'm interested in may also be of help to people not comfortable with unlocking their bootloader and performing a complete wipe and flash.
I figured I'd help the community by asking a question that hadn't been directly asked and people would be interested in.

oh, i read your op. and there seems to be some confusion written in it. as its why you were answered to flash a factory image, as that would get rid of your confusion. but, some people dont wish to take the easier and quicker step, and i understand that as well. so, youre going to be stuck waiting for an ota. oh well, life goes on..

Root your phone, that's the easiest way that way you don't have to monkey around with the aforementioned senarios you described, you will save yourself a lot of headaches.
Just go to N and wait for next update. The R is the Verizon 6.0 plus the N security update.

R isn't only VZW. It's only VZW that's pushed R. The repository has had R in it for several days.
But, yeah, everybody else is on N so there should be an update for R soon.
Any noticeable changes from K to N?

Rooting isn't necessary for flashing system images and will actually prevent you from getting OTAs.
I got a Nexus because my Moto X 2014 on VZW isn't going to get Marshmallow. At this point I want official updates without having to back everything up, wipe, apply the update, and then restore. I just want to apply the OTA (either actually Over The Air or the simple process of sideloading) and not have a headache mucking about with everything else.
none
Well i don't think you will have to wait too much longer, as you know the Google phone is always first

I know. I'm impatient. LOL The N6 has been taking surprisingly long to get OTA updates even though the images have been out. It's not like it's not having updates produced, just issues rolling them out.

I would never have a phone and not be able to root it. Do you listen on your headphones? the volume is so low, with rooting the volume can be adjusted, you can nuke all the bloatware, and the flashing you mentioned and backing up, all that can be done in 30 minutes and if you have a rom you like you never have to change it. And the Deved roms are so much better than the stock ones. Better batt life, custom kernels and the the list goes on and on, but everyone has their preferences.
The N6 can be rooted in ten minutes

Wiping the phone yes. What I meant was. Once phone was set up and established with the issue present, does wiping data from the problematic application fix it, temporarily or not
I'll be honest, if I didn't know you were talking about an android phone then I would query if it was a rootkit virus. As it seems embedded on a very low level..
I honestly couldn't advise if that's possible on android but the symptoms are pretty compelling to say the least.
Against my better judgement here, I would advise installing an antivirus (only for a scan) specifically one that would eliminate a rootkit.
Does malwarebytes have an android alternative?? If so then try that.
Beyond that the only thing you can do if the problem is returning each time you perform a full wipe would be a firmware installation with a fresh firmware file.
It's not possible to remain beyond that unless a rootkit is possible on an android phone. .
Edit: as suspected, rootkits do exist for android, so I would put my money on that. A wipe won't fix it and you (if I'm correct) have a back door into your device. So it has to be eliminated before you use it for day to day tasks / business / personal use.
Don't enter anything personal at all unless you have to to get the job done.
You need bespoke software in order to remove it.
If I isn't that then a new firmware should fix the issue.
Lastly, I know you're not an idiot. I was just trying to get more info, I couldn't see screenshots, using the same app for xda and now I can.

Perfect, i would avoid banking or entering personal details until that point.
The 190 firmware will not lock down your bootloader either so you're quite safe, please double / triple check that you're not on a later firmware.
Actually isn't 190 a 9.0.0 firmware?
Please check before proceeding, all instructions are in the guide.
