It's driving me nuts. The only thing that stops the the Nexus 7 being nothing more than a toy or glorified ebook for me is the fact I cannot find any form of big screen streaming for it. My 2 year old phone has MHL abilities which is okay but someone must know if there are any plans for the Nexus 7? It seems to be ridiculous to have such a powerful device and not be able to use it on a bigger screen.
I've searched back 10 pages on this subject and found nothing so welcome any fresh perspectives on it.

+1 to BubbleUPnP...
Though screen mirroring is not possible in BubbleUPnP, you can throw any media from it to your TV or other
DLNA enabled devices...
Luckily, my TV has WiFi dongle and Wi-Fi direct feature...
so, once my device is connected to the TV via WiFi-direct, launch BubbleUPnP and select the TV as renderer, I can
throw any media to the TV...
I'm also hoping and wishing for the screen mirroring...
Hi I will look at BubbleUPnP, I've been using Skifta for the time being which does DNLA quite well.
I use my PS3 as a receiver but it doesn't support many file formats.
It's a real shame the Nexus doesn't at least support MHL.

Hi friends;
I have LG Smart TV 2013 model.
TV has miracast function .
I want to buy HTC One.
Has HTC One Screen mirroring function like Samsung Galaxy S4?
Galaxy S4 connect to tv wirelessly without using any adapter/dongle.(e.g. Netgear)
I want connect HTC One's screen to my LG TV wirelessly.
Up
According to this video, yes the function does work.
the built-in gallery app offers limited support for mirroring photos and videos; I am using skifta which does a better job imo, not only that but you can play content from another dlna source

You mention about DLNA.
With DLNA i only watch videos , pictures on my tv wirelessly.
I have HTC HD2 and already i can use DLNA
I want to see HTC One's screen on TV without any addional device(eg; Netgear, HTC Media link)
This is screen mirroring or miracast
For Example: In this video you can see miracast function LG optimus G between LG LA smart TV
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ts6kP-qFgAo
then there's only mhl or dedicated miracast device via wi-fi

I use mine through dlna all the time works through my Samsung tv and house internet it's great because you play the video and can still use the phone at the same time I also use a otg cable and plug my 64gb Usb stick in and transfer files to and from

yeap, dlna's fine but miracast or airplay allows you to mirror your screen on the TV. think racing games, presentations and so on

Hi, I just want to bring good news: Miracast has been fixed for HTC One! The 4.3 update brings Android's native implementation of the technology, and now I can mirror my phone screen to my Sony KDL42W653 tv (did not work before)!

Hi, Can you let me know how you managed this? I am trying to mirror the display on my HTC One (Jelly Bean) to the Sony KDL-50W656A TV via Screen Mirroring function on the TV.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I've read somewhere that miracast it's not working on custom roms WITH sense for HTC One (I've tried ARHD with no success). This means that miracast might work with GPE roms. As I said I've tried ARHD with LG and Sony TVs, no good, The TVs see the HTC One but when they're about to connect it fails. I can use DLNA though, but it's not what I really need.
so i tried playing some netflix through miracast but i got no video, just the sound and subtitles. does anyone know why and how i can fix it?

I'm curious as well. I wonder if the galaxy S5 has the same issue. If miracast works on the S5, then it could be addressed in a ROM update
lg g2 doesn't have the issue...

come on people. seriously?! XDA can solve the complex "where is my power button" issue, or the "how do I run an app" problem, but it can't help me with a miracast issue? a feature standard in all kitkat androids?
who has a solution or idea? or where can I find a real android forum

I'm also having this problem on an HTC One m7 but it works just fine on an LG 8.3 v500.
Really interested in a possible solution. I've tried various HDCP settings to no avail. Does it have anything to do with HDCP?
What roms have you tried? What kernels? What miracast dongles?
Roms:
viper 6.2.1
slimrom 4.4
Kernels:
stock viper
stock slimrom
I ordered the offical HTC Media Link HD H200 to try out so we'll see how that works.
So far the Belkin ~$50 one doesn't work (HDMI 2.0) returned and can't remember the model. FD something maybe.
Also might be worth trying this (I haven't yet): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13952221&postcount=722
Stock and gpe. Stock 1.651.10 didn't display netflix even though everything else works, gpe 4.4.4 didn't connect to miracast at all. I have the netgear push2tv and my old lg g2 had no problem casting netflix it's just this phone
I've yet to try with 2.x.x.x my miracast dongle is with the rest of my household goods getting speed at the moment
Also what they talk about in that link doesn't seem relevant

The link is partially about DRM from my understanding but yeah I think if its showing on your phone at all, it's not a DRM issue.
Sigh... HTC Media Link HD was a waste of time - couldn't get it to connect at all. Chromecast works perfectly however.
Ordered 2 other miracast dongles to try out but likely won't matter since it's something with the phone.
According to this: http://iezcast.com/bbs-en/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=862 - a firmware update to a dongle seems to have fixed the issue for a nexus 7 user.

HTC Media Link won't show picture from netflix while streaming now since I've updated the os.
Just wanted to add to this a little. I'm seeing the exact same thing on a verizon M8 with the push2TV miracast adapter, and with the miracast functionality built into a samsung TV. Seems like the problem is likely on our end.
Submit a ticket to HTC. Anyone having this problem should.
Any update on this? I modified the build.prop to get miracast working on my Nexus 6, but Netflix still displays a black screen with audio using my Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter. It works fine on a friends Note 4. What's up?

yes
manually Boot an older version of Netflix, turn off auto updates.
I have the same problem with win10 tablet, win 10 laptop, redmi note 2, 3, ulefone power, Samsung galaxy Tab 3 and every other device I could find to miracast Netflix. Everything is ok untill I press play, then...black screen, sound and subs.
I guess it has something to do with Netflix.
Is this new in 4.4.3 or have I just never noticed you can mirror to Chromecast now?
Performs way better than mirracast on my Nexus 4.

Is your Chromecast stock, or running Eureka-ROM?
I've got a Stock Nexus 4 with the 4.4.3 OTA
I have 2 chromecast, one UK stock and one US Eureka, works on both.
Yeah it works fine i just pull down quick settings, cast screen, and the chromecast show in there as beta next to the miracast adapter I have.

Hahaha, you took a photo with the device you're mirroring with. That's fantastic.
I hope I can finally do mirroring on my SGS3 when it gets 4.4.3!!!
I also see the option but when I try to connect, it says "casting to Chromecast failed ". I wonder if having a rooted device may prevent casting from working. I'm also using a stock but rooted Nexus 4 4.4.3.

If your CCast isn't rooted and running Eureka then Mirroring will fail...
Only ones I know of that can do it without Eureka installed on CCast are those in Spain where the Mirror app is whitelisted.
If the other poster is correct it may also be whitelisted for UK models.

Hi thanks alot for that, Is your nexus rooted?
What I want to know is,
Do you need a nexus
Or is it GENRAL 4.4.3 devices?
Thanks ! Would be great if it was the latter GENRAL 4.4.3 device :d
Sorry I should have seen this post first but I didn't and posted about my Nexus 5 and the 4.3.3 update. I can mirror using my rooted US Chromecast with Eureka-ROM. No sound when running video.
Did there Havey lag or not

I've got the same setup N5 (stock rooter) and CC (US rooted). The screen casting was there before 4.4.3, it's pretty smooth but the lack of sound is the real kicker. Great for sharing photos.
N4 on 4.4.3 and stock CC (usa) - mirror fails.
Its incredibly ironic to me that Google made JB Miracast compatible but haven't added support for native mirroring in Android. What's more I dont hear any major tech sources talking about it. Last news was that as of 4.3 Google was going to add support for Chromecast mirroring "soon". Its been half a year and doesn't seem to really be a priority for Google. I hope they focus their efforts on this feature for the next major release.
I don't think it's about Android version, but google play services.
Middle East has nothing
Strangely, I got the 4.4.3 update a couple of days ago, but the screen cast option does not show my chrome cast in the list of available devices. It appeared there once, with (beta) in brackets, but never after that - nor does it appear in quick settings.
Stock N5, rooted.
^^^
screen cast needs to be 'triggered' with a chromecast compatible app first. then your CC will show up (and fail to connect) as a screen casting device.
I believe in order to fully sort out how this works (may be same as before), please post
Android Version on the device FROM which you are streaming, whether or not your chromecast is running Eureka ROM, what region your Chromecast is from, and wether streaming has worked for you before.

I have a nexus 5 and use the WiFi tethering to run my Chromecast. I use another android device to operate it, and it works great, but something confused me...
I read somewhere that the device running a tethered network can't communicate with other devices on that network. It's just how android works. And its a bummer.
However I recently saw that I can cast from G+ photos on the device running the tethered network, my nexus. Also the new mirror feature sees Chromecast but won't connect. I was able to mirror pretty well at a friend's house using an actual router so I know this is a working feature.
So my question... Does anyone have an explanation to why my nexus can see my Chromecast from these apps? Netflix doesn't see it and the Chromecast setup app won't run at all when the WiFi is tethering. It would be something pretty incredible if it was some hidden thing we could unlock in those apps...
Eh?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Only the tethering app has access to the tether network...
All the other apps use the normal data connection....
Since they are not connected to the Tethering network they can not see the CCast.
it's possible, instead
