[Q] How can I go about installing Busybox on my MotoX? - Moto X Q&A

So I can't seem to get BusyBox installed. The app from the market doesn't seem to work. I'm assuming that's because the /system isn't writable. I can't seem to find a flashable zip for JUST it either. All the zips seem to include SuperSU or whatever, which is already on my phone.
Suggestions?

Question: Busybox installed twice, harmful?

hi, quick question.
i originally installed busybox via busybox installer in /system/xbin
then, because openVPN requires busybox installed in /system/bin, i did that too.
now busybox installer tells me that i have more than one copy of busybox installed (surprise), but doesn't tell me whether that is good or bad. i also do not see any detrimental effects at this moment.
so should i just keep it like it is?
if i should uninstall one busybox, how should i do this?
thanks
have u tried busybox (installer) from market, think it will give u option to uninstall if it finds several copies..

it doesn't
it says it will remove existing versions, but i guess only if you overwrite (means, install over previous version in same folder.
i have it in two folders /system/bin and /system/xbin
should be easy to delete it manually from xbin, i have only to files there
ipctool & vfp-crasher
reboot

but i dont think it matters, i had several busybox files as well, decided to remove all except in /bin folder..

Hi!
So did you installed busybox on yout galaxy tab P7500 or your phone? I have P7500 and i've seen how people break their displays with busybox can you give market link for busybox installer which one you used? Thx.
Okay i done with my samsung galaxy tab 10.1. I bought acer iconia B1 A71 tablet. If any one know where get root for it pm or replay
Sent from my B1-A71 using XDA Premium HD app

Rooted, but can't locate busybox on my captivate

I have rooted with the update.zip. installed android sdk and now trying to enable captivate app sideloading, but I cant' seem to locate busybox after i installed it. I used "Buysbox installer" and click in install and states buys box has been installed, but i can't locate it anywhere on my phone to start it up to continue with the enabling app sideloading. I am lost on what to do from this point, any help would be awesome. Thanks!
When I enabled sideloading I logged into to my phone through adb copied the system DB, used SQLite extension in firefox to switch the bit, and then pushed the DB back on the phone. Restart and done.
What method are you trying to use to enable sideloading apps? All busybox did for me was allow things like su, copy, etc in the shell through adb.

I was trying to follow these instructions.

How did you do this? Do you have step by step instructions on how you did what you did?
Thanks!
Thought you should be able to download busybox by itself from the market - or you could install Titanium Backup which will install it for you.
if busy box installer says its installed, then its installed. there is no 'app' for busybox. its in the system. that website is slightly misleading. i think they mean the busybox INSTALLER. open it and run the install/enable it. as already suggested, if you install titanium backup, it will check that busybox is installed and working properly

actually there is an APP icon for busybox that will show up in app drawer. If you want to make sure its installed just download it from the market...open the app and run the install...takes all of about 30-40 seconds.
I just ended up downloading root explorer and firefox SQLite manager and just copied the settings.db over to my sd card and changed the settings from 0 to one on the install none market apps, then copied it back the com.android.providers.settings and i am enabled now. awesome thanks!

Sorry I didn't get back to your post. Glad you got it to work. Good luck with the non-market apps.

[Q] Can't install secure settings helper

I'm trying to install helper (busy box already installed) however, every time I try to install it, it reboots my phone. Pushing the apk into system\app also reboots the phone. I can push other apk's and remove apk's from system\app just not the helper apk. When I try to flash the securesettingshelper.zip in CWM it says "installation aborted"
I've tried a number of things to get this working including flashing the bulletproof-1.8 kernel. I've also tried doing the fix here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230341
Does anyone have the helper installed on their device? If so, could you link or guide me through the process?
Thanks
EDIT: solved! not sure what the issue was still, but I just did a full wipe and reinstalled Android Revolution HD 8.0. Perhaps it's because I tried using Rom Cleaner 3.5 for the HTC One X

I got it to work. I just used the normal install from the app itself. nothing special, no apk or cwm zip file. Make sure your root is ok?

yea installing from the app is the first thing I tried. I know my root is good since su is installed and all other apps work fine.
i got the same "installation aborted" when flashing via cmw, but did manual copy paste and change name
(Manually copy to /system/app/SecureSettingsHelper.apk ) and then restart my n7105. now helper is working. will try if pattern unlock is working.
what other people do after installing helper?

[Q] Help with root problem (apps that use sd card broken)

I rooted with kingo and installed Urdriod version 2 via safestrap version 3.75. Then installed Titanium backup pro. Problem is Titanium doesn't work anymore. All the options are not there. It is saying current backup location is inaccessible.
I then noticed that many of my applications that work in conjunction with the sd card do not work. Youtube is broken on 4G. Evernote is broken. Many of my games are broke as well.
I then did a clean install of another Rom Dynamic Kat. It didn't fix anything.
Any suggestions?
Install xposed framework and this module.

Could not extract Xposed-Disabler-Recovery.zip
Could i do this manually some how?

You shouldn't need the zip did you try installing the apk?
It looks like its installed with the rom but not active. I cannot activate it and i cant seem to get the module to work either. I tried the apk but it just says that i already have it and it wont install.
Phone is alot less useful if it cant interact with the sd card. Is there another way to get this going or to get the phone to read the sd?
Is superuser installed and working?
yes it is. I don't believe it's that.

What error message are you getting when you try to install the framework from the xposed installer app? You might also try uninstalling the xposed installer app then installing the version from the download link
Here is exactly what the message says:
SDcard:/storage/emulated/0/android/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/files
Copying Xposed-Disabler-Recovery.zip
Could not extract Xposed-Disabler-Recovery.zip
I know the copy I have isn't working but if I erase it I might never even get a copy on. But the copy I have won't even install or update.

Looks like this came up in the xposed forum here
Sounds like the xposed updater app extracts a backup to the external sd card during installation...which you can't access, hence the error. The consensus seems to be to install this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devasque.fmount&hl=en to fix the folder permissions then xposed should install properly.
Well I think installing FolderMount did the trick. after i put it on the phone it detected a script error and asked if i wanted to fix it.i agreed and it rebooted and that did it! Thanks everyone!!!!!

L09 b383 Adaway Isssue

Hello guys,
i just upgraded my l09 to firmware version b383. Everything including root seems to work fine except my adaway app. It cant edit the hosts file.
I already changed the hosts path to "/vendor/etc/hosts" but it wont work. If i open fx explorer in root mode i am able to edit the hosts file properly when mounted rw. Does anyone know how to fix that problem or workaround?
Thanks in advance!

Which version of busybox do you have installed, if it's jrummy's ensure its installed to /system/xbin/busybox
If that's already the case then make sure you set the target hosts file in adaway preferences to /system/etc/hosts.
If not then uninstall your current busybox, install jrummy's busybox and follow the second step and you should be good to go.

I'm on B383 and this guide worked perfectly for me http://www.theandroidsoul.com/make-system-writable-android-7-0-nougat/amp/
Thanks for your responses! The trick with the busybox installation worked for me. I didnt even changed the hosts path back to default. Don't know if this also works. I'm happy

Busybox is not needed for AdAway, only root. You would need BusyBox for eg Viper4Andrroid
I have L09 c432 b383, TWRP 3.1.0-2, root by SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815-EMUI5.0.zip, and AdAway-v3.2-Feb.08.2017.apk works perfect.
No Busybox, AdAway hosts file as per default to /system/etc/hosts, no special mounting or whatever
