Hey guys.
I have the famous USB port problem, in which, even after disconnecting the charger, the phone shows charging, and dis-charging in an infinite loop. So due to this, the screen doesn't switch off because, due to this problem, the phone thinks that the charger is being connected and removed, connected removed .. so on. and hence, the phone sometimes acts like a heater, and also oozes battery. Just like is in the starting of this video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duzTDyt_bN4
As a solution to this problem, I switched to MIUI (the Venegence MIUI 5), which recognized the small intervals of charging and disconnecting as just charging, and hence didn't keep the screen on. But there was a problem. the MIUI got bloated, (and also i got pretty bored using it). so i had to swith to official JB again. And again the same problem continued.
If MIUI doesn't recognize the small connect and disconnect, why does the TW JB? and is there any tweak that can be applied on the stock JB rom, to not light up the screen when charger is connected? i think that the phone keeps the screen on because it thinks that it has been connected -> 'turn screen' on and disconnected -> 'turn screen on' and connected -> 'turn screen on' again. If it is said to the phone, don't turn on the screen when connected or disconnected, then i think the problem is solved. then there is no other problem on the phone like the others have. - pc not recognizing, connect disconnect sound or anything. everything else concerning the USB port is working fantastic. just this screen on thing.

It's Note's weak spot. I had the same problem and it's obviously not rom related. I fixed it by replacing the usb port. It's a couple of bucks on ebay and there are YouTube guides on how to do it.

there is xposed module which includes the option for wake up on plug. Gravity box has it, there should be another module too with that feature. Also in Omnirom it is already included in settings>display>wakeup on plug if you uncheck it, it wont wake up on plug and unplug.

Can you guide me how to do this? any links or stuff? i found this on xda, but i doubt it works for note with stock JB. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316070

You dont need nothing of these things, you only need your phone rooted and ICS or + (even kitkat supports Xposed modules).

But the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316070 says (and that too in red) that it is not for the TW roms. Can you confirm? Can you provide with some instructions or link which i should follow for installing Xposed module on the stock TW JB roms? I currently have TW JB + HelloWorld kernel.

I first installed the gravity box, set the don't wake on plug, rebooted, but the screen still turns on. removed gravity box, installed the xposed additions, set the don't wake on plug, rebooted. the screen still turns on, but it vibrates when the display shows charging and not charging. I suppose the Samsung Framework doesn't support don't wake on plug unplug.
can anyone tell me which kernel is required as prerequisite for the omnirom? I am currently on the helloworld kernel. does this kernels CWM has the selinux support?

I have found 2 revisions for the same part. how to know which revision fits inside mine? the date on version 1.0 is 08/2011. i bought my phone in 06/2011. so i think this must not be the rev i need. maybe the 0.0. but does it matter? is it important to know which rev is inside mine? or is the 1.0 backwards compatible, in case i have the 0.0?

I didn't find any difference while searching for mine. Just look for n7000 usb charging port replacement.

EDIT
Just checked my old usb charging port that I still keep after it has been replaced and it has the following stamp with golden letters:
N7000/I9220_SUB_REV1.0 2011.08.30
I bought my phone May 2012. Not sure if it matters though...
Hope this could be of some help.

Okay, so as far as I am able to find... This problem is pretty unique...
I'm running Cognition 4.5.3 with no software issues. I have had this problem since Cog 3...
Most people have trouble getting their phone to boot into download mode, but NOT ME!
My phone randomly (I can find absolutely no cause or trigger and I'm not really a novice at Android) will shut itself off. Now normally I would not have an issue with this, but when I go to turn the phone on... it boots straight to download mode, and no key combo or anything will avoid it. So I have been testing this out and I can reboot the phone from the enhanced power menu, I can boot into Recovery from enhanced power menu... But when the phone shuts off or when I shut it down, the ONLY way that I can get it to power on correctly, is to plug the phone in and wait for it to show that the phone is charging. Then I can power it on normally...
Now, this issue arose the same time that my phone began to refuse to be recognised when plugged into a computer via USB... and at times the USB debugging and USB connected notifications will remain in the notification bar until I reboot the phone...
Naturally, my first instinct was to try and restore to stock... But since no computer will recognize my phone (even with fresh drivers installed) I cannot use odin to flash to stock.
So to summarize my problems:
1. My phone will not be recognized by a computer. (USB device not recognized)
2. My phone randomly shuts itself off. (Not a big deal, I can live with that)
3. My phone ONLY boots into download mode unless plugged into the charger (Incredibly frustrating when I am not at home or I don't have my car charger)
4. USB debugging and USB connected notifications stick around until phone is rebooted. (Using enhanced power menu. Again, I can live with this minor annoyance)
have you tried reflashing that rom...or trying another?
it could be the random shutdown issue that some cappys have paired with a failing usb port.
try changing roms.

Hehe... I tried a different rom for two weeks and had similar and/or more problems...
Reflashing doesn't help either.
I've tried my best to troubleshoot this on my own, so I'm not shutting down your attempt to help. Just letting you know I have tried it.
I hadn't heard about a failing USB port problem... I'll read up on it.
Thanks for your help!

like i said could be a short or something in the usb port...or somewhere in the hardware. if you experience this problem across different software then it has to be a physical defect someplace. cause if it were software related it would fix once you flashed something different...
you can try for a warranty replacement, that requires a little loose morals. you will have to do something to cause it not to boot, or only boot to the at&t screen otherwise they will have proof of root and/or custom rom and void your warranty. once thats accomplished mention some crap about kies failing and they should replace it.

Hmmm... a few months back my original USB/Charging cable broke and for a couple of days I was forced to use a generic MicroUSB cable to charge my phone... Could that have cause a short/damage to the port?
My phone does not have warranty as I bought it refurbished. :'(
(Plus my morals aren't that loose.)
Had a similar issue, eventually determined that it was a short in this usb port and did a warranty return. (Only when plugged in could I turn on, etc.)
If that isn't an option for you, you could try flashing CM. For some reason, the cyanogenmod build won't let the phone charge when off. ( Automatically powers back up once the juice flows.)
I flashed a nightly and somehow, magically, my phone would power back up normally ( but wouldn't turn off, unless plugged in without power. So strange!)
Even more weird? I flashed back to stock and the new powering and rebooting stuck. The short wasn't fixed, my phone simply seemed to reverse the problem.
Plus, you would be using cm.

Thanks! You guys have pretty much answered my questions...
I don't want to leave my nice DG Rom though.
Since I have determined that it is a hardware problem... I think I'm just going to live with it for a few more weeks until I can afford to go ahead and buy the newer build of the Cappy... (Might even wait until the SGSII comes out.)
You should be able to get warranty replacement, just make sure the device is in a stock condition when you take it in!

Okay so I called them and let them know what the phone was doing and they tried to send me to samsung to have them repair the phone...
I now hold in my hands a shiny new 1102 build Cappy... Took it to my local device service center and explained the random shutdowns and the booting into download mode and they replaced it no questions asked!
Now to get Cog 5b2 on here.
My T810 has stopped fast charging and is no longer connecting when plugged into a computer. But is does charge. Have tried several USB cables and chargers that work with other Samsung tablets.
Same here. Started a week ago.
Slow charging and PC does not recognise the device any more.
USB OTG does not work any more.
Additionally I see a never ending wakelock from 'Android OS'. No more deep sleep.
The issues are maybe connected.
Because the device is not rooted, I can't use WakeLockDetector to find the specific reason. The ADB workaround also does not work, because USB connection fails.

I wanted to wait until end of warranty. So no TWRP as well.
There is an older thread with a slow charging issue. A hard reset solved it in this case and it was thought that a vpn client was the reason. I use 'Block This!' and already updated it to the latest version and also disabled it and rebooted. No success up to now.

Yes i was also on that thread because i have 2 tab s2 1 with broken screen and 1 with charging problems too so i did is swap the mobo to get a 100% working tab. I never tried to hard reset the defected mobo because i cant remove the working lcd again because of the adhesive of the hw buttons which is hard not to break when removing screen. Hope you find solution to your problem and incase you do pls share the info mabe i can recover the other mobo, its always better to have extra item for future repair

I want to add, that Odin does not see the device in download mode.
I slowly begin to assume that I have a broken USB and the WakeLocks are not connected to the issue. Or maybe Android tries to access the Port and does not find it and for that reason stays awake. Does that make sense?

So in your case it was a motherboard failure and not a broken USB? The 'red X' and 'charging takes forever' sound familiar.

I now tried a hard reset. Unfortunately nothing changed.
I made an OTA update to Android 7.0. Unfortunately nothing changed.
So I assume a broken motherboard or a broken USB port.
I also tried a backup/restore with Samsung Smart Switch to an external SD card. It doesn't backup the App databases/settings and just more or less random SD card folders. It does backup the APKs. You can't rely on it but it's better than nothing if you don't have an USB port. Some Apps like Nova and Solid Explorer provide backups of their settings. Use it in addition to Smart Switch and manually backup your internal card.
Thanks for your comments.

Eventually I sent the device to repair. They changed the motherboard and everything is fine now. Warranty covered the repair, fortunately.
for people have this usb port problem, I had this too before,
what i did to fix it is to use hair dryer, dry usb port for 30 secs, rest for 10 secs, dry 30 secs again, then let it cool down for 3 mins , that's it , it fixed.

Interesting technique Kevin. Any idea how this fix worked?
Hello everyone,
Having major issues with my Idol4S. It is the unlocked version (Cricket). It was working just great until a few days ago when I plugged it into the car charger. Phone instantly shut off, and got stuck with a blinking (rapid) LED light. This happens if plugged into my PC, or my Alcatel charger (both the wall and car).
The phone has suffered no damage (had a cover, but it was never dropped or exposed to external weather damage, nor water - I took great care of it), and was working quite well. I'm unable to boot it into any sort of recovery mode (as the screen is black, so I wouldn't be able to see anything anyways). The only indication of life is the flashing LED when plugged in ..(charging loop, maybe?)
I am using my idol4S Win10 (TMO/unlocked) phone in the meantime, but the base model was working just fine before this happened. I was also mindful of checking voltage/Amps when using chargers, so I would not have exposed it to any incorrect input/output. QuickCharge worked great too (sorely missed on Win10 model).
The phone was never rooted so it has the stock ROM, and whatever the last update Alcatel had pushed out for it. I did have developer mode and USB debugging on for MSVC/NSDK.
Is there anything I can do? After awhile being plugged in, the LED shuts off. I kind of need it as I was porting my game engine to it (using the SDK), plus it was my primary. I love the Win10 version too, but the Android idol4S was my primary phone. Kind of disappointed in Alcatel - I read it doesn't have an external battery otherwise I would attempt to transplant the battery (if that is even the issue). . .
Any tips, advice, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! <3
what you describe is what the phone does when it's plugged into the PC in download mode. Since you have the Cricket version which is also what I have, it is very easy to start from scratch and reflash everything. I have released a newer version TWRP and also have the ~CricketRom~ available if you're interested.

Okay, but would it work even though the phone gives no indication of being plugged in to the computer, or the chargers for it? I plugged it into the PC just now, brief flash of light and then nothing. .
Should mention again that the screen does not turn on, ever since that day, the screen has not came back on -- so I really can't do anything, even accessing 'download mode' does not show anything on-screen, nor does Windows 10 alert me of the USB device being connected.
I wouldn't mind starting from scratch at this point. I'm definitely interested in getting up and running again! It's not like I can do anything else at this point except spend money and get it repaired by TCL.
Would it be rude of me to ask for links to the TWRP/CricketROM from you? Maybe a quick-start guide, I pick up on things easy, but I've never properly flashed with TWRP =)
Also @PizzaG, THANK YOU for your help!! Definitely appreciated <3
Oh! @PizzaG, I also have an older Onetouch Idol 3 that has the _exact_ same symptoms, I wonder if that too could be recovered? ... ^__^
well I guess the first thing to do would be plug it into the PC. Hold volume+ and volume- then hold power until you feel the buzz and let go of power. Hopefully you get the red Download mode screen? I didn't realize it had no life at all, I thought it was just messed up. It's sounding like more may be wrong then just a simple reflash.

Hi everyone.
My note 8 isn't charging recently. I used different cables/chargers but it's the same.
It only charges when connected to the pc...(only charges, cannot use MTP for transfering files).
What can it be? Charging port?
I had the same issue with my Note4. The USB port was to blame (the solder point on the board broke).
You will have to buy a wireless (inductive) charger in the interim until you can fix the issue. I got a wireless charger for this reason and left my USB Type-C port for data transfers.

One thing i found today is that it works in one side of the cable only( not both sides as it is type C). And it doesnt connect to pc, even download mode isn't recognized in odin.
So changing the port will fix it? It should cost around 25€ here in my country if i remember correctly.

You should try to charge it wireless and se how it goes, but by your explanation sounds like the port is malfunctioning. I had several phones with that problem and have to change the port. The solution I have is to use a magnetic cable and voila
Try cleaning the port before assuming it's bad. I work outside and my port gets built up with crap and a good cleaning with a toothbrush and some alcohol usually does the trick.
If cleaning the port doesn't help. Then you need to get the USB port repaired.
Did you install august update or custom ROM with august security patch?
If so that's the culprit.
Downgrading your ROM will fix the issue.

I have a suggestion tho, maybe unrelated to your usb recognition, but it also might magically work, you have nothing to lose anyway:
- at 5% battery open dialer and tap *#0228# - press quick start - press ok
- charge to 100%, turn off, turn on, open dialer and tap *#0228# - press quick start - press ok, charge back to 100%
- optional open dialer and tap *#9900# - look for Batterystats reset and tap on it
This fixed usb issues for one of my users that had problems on august base.

Yup i guess that's why. Even though phone charges now(everytime), i cannot connect it to the pc.
Can i downgrade without deleting my data, it's been a while since i last flashed using odin???

If your phone is having stock ROM and stock recovery - the only option is by flashing ROM via ODIN and data will be erased.

You can't really downgrade without killing the data.

I dont have any issues yet with charging but i do test with that. Im on August security patch.
Hi, my name is Pablo, I am new and this is my first post.
(I don't have much English, so I'm using the google translator)
I have a problem with charging the xiaomi a2. I bought the cell phone with Android 8.1, what caught my attention is that in the notification bar, the option always came out as if the USB cable was connected and when I connected the charger, I had to lower the bar, open the USB options and select to load (did not start loading without choosing the option)
The biggest problem started when I updated the android and this option in the notification bar did not appear anymore, I connected the charger and did not take it. The only way I would take it was by restarting the cell phone and I knew it was charging (and sometimes it was very slow).
- It is not a problem with the charger because I have already tried several
- It is not a problem with the usb cable because I have also changed it
- It is not a problem with the cell phone connector because in Android 8.1 it always works or (if I restart it in another rom it always takes it)
I have tried changing rom (stock, google experience, havoc, miui) and none was solved (I had to restart the cell phone to start loading)
Please help me to fix it, in android 8.1 the proximity sensor malfunctions and I can't take it anymore
Thank you in advance, I hope I have published in the right place
