[Q] Google Search draining the battery - Moto X Q&A

Before i go to sleep everyday, i plug my phone to the charger. When i woke up on saturday, the charger wasn't plugged and the battery was only 80%. I checked in the battery stats and there was google search draining the battery, running for about two hours. Wi-fi, gps and mobile off. I thought it was something related to the update on the touchless control, where you can search on google now without typing the pin. I disabled that option. Yesterday, i fully charged my phone before i get to sleep, and locked it on my closet. Today, i looked at it and there was only 20% left. Again, google search was running for almost 9 hours. Again, wi-fi, gps and mobile off. Anybody know why this is happening?

I did notice on my nexus 7 the other day Google Search on a different user sucked up about 50% of the battery in 12 hours, even after it was sitting around for a full day.

Battery Issue After Honeycomb

I fully charged my ds7 last night, used it to surf the web for over an hour. When I went to bed, I turned on airplane mode and noticed battery at 71% before putting the ds7 on standby. When I woke up this morning the battery level was at 35%!!!! What's going on? I set power management to aggressive, to turn off all data after 15 minutes when screen is off. Is anyone else having this problem?
I have been watching my battery life daily after upgrading my stock wifi streak on Monday. First day after only adding a couple of apps, my battery went down 65% in 10 hours on standby. Loaded more apps and played around a lot and then put in airplane mode and turned off GPS sat and it dropped 23% the next day using same 10 hours in standby. Last time i kept sat gps off, in airplane mode AND turned off wifi, and it only dropped 3% in the same 10 hours. That was nice coming back to a 97% charged streak.
Draw your own conclusions. Obviously something is still draining it with wifi on.
A few times i noticed the screen come on when it was in standby sitting on the cocktail table in front of me. (wifi on at the time) So is an app doing that? or an account syncing? I dont have any answers.

Do you remember using Google maps? I noticed that Google maps does not shut down after you run it, it keeps running in the background and drain the battery.

First time(when it dropped 65%) yes. I remember opening Maps. Next day i went in and forced it closed.
Also forgot to mention in power management, i used standard but i set the times to 00:00 to 23:59.
Ok, I have a sort of answer. When the DS7 first got 2.2.2, it really seemed that battery life improved. But what I found were a couple of things that worked.
1. Standard Power Saver. I hate waiting for wifi as the DS7 wakes up.
2. Turn off auto-sync. I also have a DInc, so I am not worried about missing my gmail. (auto-sync will also run while there is no data service, often running the battery down quicker than when data is connected)
3. Turn off GPS. There's really no need for me to keep it running all the time.
4. Turn on Airplane Mode and then turn on the WiFi.
I can usually squeeze out about 6 hours of normal use in honeycomb with these settings. And definitely more when left alone overnight. But yes, the battery still does go down significantly.

[Q] Poor battery life

My phone has been on for about 5 hours and it is dead. Power usage says it has been running for 16 hours. There are no apps running, the screen brightness is turned down, and I have turned off many of the sync stuff.
I turn it off every night and put on charge. It says it's fully charged in the morning. Battery life was good until just recently, maybe last week or so. Is there any way to reset the battery?
There is, but you need root access. You can either use recovery to clear the battery cache or there are a few programs that will reset it for you.

Battery taking a nose dive since 4.4.2?

Not sure whats going on but the battery on my Note 3 is horrible since the update. I fully charge it and 1 hr later (not even using it) I've lost 5-10%. It barely last the whole day now. I've even wiped the device and it continues to happen. Doing a quick test right now, fully charged its been off the battery for 20 mins and I'm showing 27% usage on the Android System, 10% on the Android OS and 15% of the screen and its down to 97% already.
Any ideas?

things to try: (no this isnt a 'disable anything useful like email and google plus' post )
1. camera - there is some well documented issue, if you open the camera app, there is some kind of battery drain going on. google it, there is tons of reading material for it. temp fix is reset.
2. I have noticed google now makes my battery life do what yours does, drop 10% easy in an hour of it being completely idle. open the app, disable google now, and then see what is going on. i hate disabling anything but its worked for me.

Thanks after a second reset it seems much better. Maybe it was one of my Apps? For now I'll just install them 1 at a time.

Same thing happened to mine. Went to bed at 95%, killed all apps, empty ram, turn off data but left wifi on. Woke up 8 hours later and it was down to 17%. Unprecedented 10% hour drain. Usuallly it drains 3 -5 percent overnight. Same thing happened to wife's phone and she is on Sprint but she left wifi and data on. Uninstalled Google camera and Skype and notice it went away. Testing it again tonight.
Edit: Test it again last night. 4% drop in 8 hours. Woke up to 96% this morning. Hopefully that fixed the problem.
Update: Went to bed at 11:30 at 68% and woke up 7 hours later and battery is still showing 68%! Surf the web for 5 minutes before battery drop to 67%. Amazing standby battery drain. I had turn off wifi, bluetooth, and data before going to bed and killed all the apps. Usually this will cause a .5%/hour drain but it barely drain .5% in 7 hours this time!

[Battery] Whatsapp draining battery

Hello!
I'm having some issues with my battery. Usually i get only about 3h30 of screen on. Normally, i charge my phone before go to sleep (so it doesn't stay all night charging), wake up with about 93%, and it goes all way down to 20% in +- 12-14hours (+9 hours of sleep).
I noticed that whatsapp is the most consuming app. Sometimes I look at the battery statistics and it's like 30% Whatsapp, 7% screen on, and other stuff less than 5%.
Someone have had this problem? It's really annoying, I see people getting 30~40 hours, 6 hours of screen, and i can't get even close to that.
Cheers
try uninstalling the app and test it again. i ended up draining my battery to 10%.. turned the phone completely off and charged it to 100%. now my battery lasts quite a while, 2-3 hours with just 2-3%. light usage of course.

You and me both, pal. I tried everything to make my battery last 6 SOT and nothing. I think it's whatsapp and play services, but i can't get rid of them.

I do have a problem with Play Service but it's gone for like 2 weeks ago after I played with some Google Apps. What I do is Disable Google Search, cut off Google Now, change Sync option in Google Setting. It just disappeared. I think you should go to Google Setting and try to turn off anything you don't need.

I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the advice. I was using CM12.1 with Play service "Keep awake" and "Wake up" disabled in Privacy, but for some reason the battery lasted less in this setting than in almost out-of-the-box stock ROM.

Also you should consider that WhatsApp is now showing itself on the battery graph, and for me is also one of the top consumers always. Before Lollipop, WhatsApp wasn't showing itself on the battery graph.
I have been able to get around 40hrs with 6hr SOT, and still WhatsApp is the top battery drainer.
I think you shouldn't be worried about WhatsApp, but you should look to other apps or settings that could be draining your battery.

Cell standby Battery drain? (random)

Hi,
This is very frustrating for me since I did not change or do anything to trigger this as far as I know. Everyday I would use my phone, your typical messages, calls, viber/whatsapp/facebook etc., and I'd have maybe 10-20% battery left when I come home. I use my phone more than 10 hours a day before I charge it again when I come home. Recently, my battery has been draining for days now. I was surprised to have 20% battery (from 100%) just after 6 hours of use. When I use spotify (I downloaded my music offline prior to using it) in my car, I'd have 75% from 100%. I charge 1-2 times a day now.
I checked my battery usage, and I saw "Cell Standby" being the culprit. It seems it's using more than 40% of my battery. I googled all of the possible solutions, but not all can be applied on mine. Most threads I saw were just talking about disabling "VoLTE", "HD Calling", or "WiFi Calling". I don't have any of those since I'm using Globe Telecom's (Philippines) Galaxy Note 5, the duo sim version.
Is there any other way to fix this? I've done disabling packages, disabling location history, resetting network settings, power cycling, and even a factory reset to no avail.
Any reply is very much appreciated.
