Hey everyone, I have rooted and installed CM11 11/25 beta, and it appears that there is no camera app. Is this something that went away with KitKat?
I went and installed the GoogleCamera for KitKat, but upon re-boot it disappears. Not sure why.
Anyone can help, that would be great!
Performed a complete wipe of system, data, dalvik, and cache, installed CM, installed KK GAPPS from the link in main thread.
Thanks in advance!
You have no camera, as in the Focal app is gone?

I have searched through here and do not see this particular error. I have rooted my new kindle fire hd 32gb version and all is well. I am trying to install the google play store and have used android cowboy's method, it won't let me post the link.
I have done as instructions state and even restored to stock with android cowboys method and tried again each time I get the error that the play store has stopped. Does anyone have any suggestions? Does it matter that it's a 32 gig version? I have successfully installed this on 2 other kindle fire hd's but I have two different ones that have this error.
There's an app that will do it for you, called KindleFree:

Edit 1/19/14: Hashcode has released a new build that has apparently fixed the issue with the amazon apks.
His newest build (as of today) is here for KFHD7 2012 http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/tate/cm11//cm-11-20140117-UNOFFICIAL-tate.zip
And here for KFHD 8.9 2012 http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/jem/cm11/cm-11-20140117-UNOFFICIAL-jem.zip
I encourage all to try this build (or the newest one) first. I'll still leave these apks here just in case for the mean time.
As posted by KyleMac_ for rooted devices
editing the build.prop is working, too. At least with the amazon kindle apk (that's what I've tried).
go to
/system/build.prop
rename
ro.product.manufacturer=amazon
to e.g.
ro.product.manufacturer=UrChoice

Are you saying that making those changes would allow us to use the most recent version of the Kindle application from the Google Play store?
deleted
Be careful editing prop builds, It can backfire. Make a backup if you do.

Yes, at least for my updated kindle app, that wasn´t working before editing the build.prop.

Mistaz: Thanks: Pardon the dumb questions -
I thought the name was critical to the tablet's function and had to be some officially registered tablet name.
I have never fooled with the build prop. Guess, I will have to look at the modified links.

I purchased some apps on the Amazon app store but I can't not get them to work on my Kindle when I try to run them on my Kindle Fire HD 7, I re-download the apps from the Amazon app store but they say not compatible with the device, is there a fix for this?
I'm running CyanogenMod 11 btw

You can back them up with Titanium Backup, uninstall the apps and then restore them with Titanium Backup. That works on crashing apps but not all apps in the app store are compatible with the Kindle series.

I can't install the Kindle apk from this thread on hashcode's CM11 ROM on my KFHD7. I've tried clicking it to install, but this always ends in the install failing with "App not installed." I also tried copying it to /system/app (and setting proper permissions), but the app still fc's immediately upon starting.

You don't need to make this a system app. Try removing completely and re-downloading it to the download portion of the internal SD card. Then open it. It should work just fine unless something from CM is preventing the app from working properly.

Nevermind. Not sure how I got it to install, but after deleting the apk from system/app and rebooting, I got it to install. Thanks for the apks!

You're welcome.
I can confirm editing the line ro.product.manufacturer in the build.prop works. Just change after the = to whatever you want. I used "Amzn". Tested on KFHD7. As has been stated, always make a backup of your build.prop before changing anything.
Anyway to fix this?

Once you put a custom ROM on your tablet, the "kindle Edition" apps will not work anymore. The short answer is you have to find a non Kindle edition app.

The newest CM drop from Hashcode has change the prop build to make it an Android. If the newest build is used then the newest APK's can be used and the ones I uploaded are no longer necessary. I updated the OP when the new CM 11 was dropped and opted to leave the old APK's up only for those that may experience some random issue. As far as the downloads, they work fine. Not sure what to say about that.
Hello I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice on whether I can install a custom rom (Jelly Bean 4.3) on my Amazon Kindle Fire 7" HD, I have rooted it and installed Superuser, Titanium Backup etc. I have been reading instructions all over the web but I am a bit scared to try anything yet with certain things I have read.
To install a custom rom I know you need to install a 2nd-Bootloader and TWRP, but in this tut: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271909 it says "This tutorial DOES NOT work for the 2013 HD model, only for the 2012 model. Following the guide with the newer model WILL CAUSE your heart to race after doing so because you'll end up with red screens and/or bootloops. So please, don't do it.".
Well I bought my Amazon Kindle Fire 7" HD in August 2013, does that mean that my Kindle is a 2013 model? if so where can I go from here? any advice would be great
Thank you.
Here's a way to find out, post the os version that it's running, that is a sure fire way to tell if it's 2012 or 2013.

Then you are using a 2012 model. You can go ahead and as the second bootloader.

I'm wanting to install the latest Android, that's KitKat 4.4 right? Where would be the best place to download the official team rom? Without many issues. And what guide/video do you think I should follow? Thanks
OK so here is the guide I recommend using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271909
2 thing I want you to know ahead of time before doing this, if you don't check the box with the warning text about flashing the boot loader(should be the very first check box) you will get a kindle that when turns on displays a red screen and requires a fastboot cable to fix so make sure to check that box. 2nd thing to mention is put the ROM on the kindle first, if you Don't and the current freedomboot image isn't up to date with the latest amazon os version, then you will boot loop upon reboot and can only get into recovery and its a pain to transfer the ROM in from there if you aren't familiar with adb. I think the latest freedomboot is up to date now though but I'm not sure.
Also the cm for our devices isn't official yet, make sure to get the gapps that go along with it. Anyways here's the ROM link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2543455

I have install the rom, now how do I get my books and apps back?
Well books from the amazon store I think you can read with an amazon kindle app(in don't read much besides manga on my kindle so I never used their bookstore, but on my kindle with cm 10.1 that app keeps crashing, might work on a newer version of cm though, think I read it about somewhere on then forum), as for apps purchased in the amazon store you could get them back with the Amazon appstore app, I don't have it anymore, but I think I got it from their website. Otherwise just redownload anything from the Google market you didn't purchase in the amazon app store.

First, I am sorry for my English because I am french.
I have successfully rooted my kindle fire 7.4.7 version.
I have a problem installing android marketplace.
After copy Vending.apk into system/app, change propreties and install it, I reboot my kindle. When it is rebooted, I get this message "Android Marketplace has stoped" and I can't see the app in the appication menu.
Does somebody know what is the problem? I have respected all tutorial steps !

Could you tell me if it's normal that the apps downloaded are not present is the application drawer ?
Thanks
As the title states for some reason i think the framework is causing amazon appstore to forceclose.
Before installing Alpha 4 on my Z3 Compact the store was running fine...not that i used it much but i have many free coins so free apps. Since install it will not run at all and all app downloaded from the store will not run without the store.
I was wondering if anyone else came across this issue and if there is a fix?
Thanks
omg so thats why it been crashing all this time! I never thought about it being xposed XD
For me this happens in Android 4.4 but not in 5.1. Strange...
I reverted to the previous version and it works with xposed.

Got the same problem
same here.... after install xposed framework alpha4 for 5.1.1, amazon appstore forceclose to homescreen after seconds. un- and reinstall of AmazonApps-release.apk (v 17.0000.893.3C_647000010) is not working.
after removing xposed from my device everything works fine again.
device is a lg g3 (d855) with euphoria 1.1 rom (lollipop 5.1.1).
Problem. I think is that the Amazon apps are made to work on their own framework of sorts... Xposed is breaking that on 5.0+ @rovo89 can you look into this?
Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
ok guys i found the answer....its not xposed its greenify. I thought i tried everything with that app to make it work but turns out you need to uncheck "deep hibernation" in the experimental options.
Working for me now. thanks @dingolino
