Put 'Motorola unlock bootloader" in a search box. Look at the Youtube video before you go to the unlock website.
Here's the link to make it easier for you.
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a/
Due note that this voids your warranty completely by requesting an unlock code. Even if you don't decide to use the code.
I have successfully unlocked via Motorola website. But now I don't know how to root my GSM Dev Editions xt1053

That is exactly the information I used to mfastboot flash TWRP recovery and flash the Supersu zip in TWRP for root. Worked perfectly.

Hello,
I'm pretty new to this but I would like to know if the root method is still the same after the 4.4.3 OTA. Also, does this phone (Moto X DE) already come with an unlocked bootloader? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The developer editions come with an unlockABLE bootloader. You can unlock free from Moto's website, and it does not void your warranty (Developer edition only).
Assuming you unlocked your bootloader, the root method (for unlocked users) is SIMILAR on 4.4.3. You will need new versions of TWRP and SuperSU. See the first post here for TWRP / SuperSU versions that work on 4.4.3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...unlocked-twrp-2-6-3-1-android-t2534850/page48
If you are talking about using a root 'exploit', this is not possible. The exploit was patched in 4.4.3. If you want root on 4.4.3 or later, you MUST unlock your bootloader, and not try to use an 'exploit' to root it.
This clear it all up?
Yes and thank you for the prompt response. So as long as I unlock the bootloader first and use the files that you provided links for. I should be good rooting my Developer Edition Moto X? Also, anyway you can provide a link with the info I need to unlock the bootloader?

Hey OP
what color is the back of your phone? Your signature suggests you have the t-mobile variant which if you unlock the bootloader youll end the warranty.

XT1053 is the model number for the GSM Dev Edition, AND The GSM Unlocked (ships with T-Mobile SIM) Moto Maker edition, aka T-Mobile varient.
The only difference is the Dev Edition being the standard black face, woven white back, silver accents (buttons and camera ring), only comes as 32Gig and says Dev Edition on the back.
You are correct, while the bootloader unlock code is available from Moto's web site for the XT1053, completing the request for the code voids the warranty unless you have a Developer Edition.

Link to get bootloader unlock code from Moto -> https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a but but if yours is NOT the Dev Edition, it will void your warranty.
Yes, unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP, boot to TWRP and install SuperSU.
I suggest these instructions for ADB and MFastboot setup -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/ADB.htm
For Rooting the X with unlocked bootloader I usually point to -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/instructions-unlocking-rooting-dev-ed-t2649738 However, while the process is correct, there is a newer TWRP (which @samwathegreat has pointed you to http://androidhosting.org/Devs/Dhacker29/MotoX/TWRP-2.7.0.0-moto_msm8960dt.img ), and there is a newer SuperSU (see -> http://download.chainfire.eu/447/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r4.zip )
EDIT: Official TWRP -> http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/ghost
Thats why i asked

It depends on which xt1058 it is. If it's the at&t variant, u cannot unlock the bootloader. If it's any other non-us carrier, u can unlock the bootloader...

For the Developer Editions Moto X, and some carrier editions (Like T-Mobile, Sprint and others), Motorola freely gives away the BootLoader Unlock codes when requested On Motorola's Web SIte. In the case of the Non-Developer Editions, it voids their warranty to request the code.
I'm not going to go into the reasons why, but Moto does NOT give out the bootloader unlock code for the Retail and Moto Maker X for Verizon, ATT and a few other carriers.
That is why you will see people ask what carrier.
One last note...
IF you get a 2013 X for ATT or Verizon, AND the phone is still on 4.4.2 or lower AND the bootloader is NOT 30.B7, you can use Sunshine to unlock the bootloader.
NOTE: once the phone has 4.4.2, 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 on it, you can NOT Safely downgrade it!!! And there is no way to downgrade the bootloader (even on Dev Edition models).
thanks i got the XT1058 ATT model but i am having bootloader BO.4 which is a good sign and i have android 4.4.2 so i can unlock with sunshine root. thanks for replying
Raj
you saved me form lots of regret my friend, i will keep cancelling updates until i can pay for sunshine. i have boot loader 30.b4 thanks a lot for your suggestion
Is there no other way to unlocked BL XT1058 ?
My previous phone is dead, but the data was backup via TitaniumBackup.
Without unlocked bl, i can not root... Without root, i can't restore my data via TitaniumBackup
*sigh* I guess i bought the wrong phone?

Correct. If you have an ATT XT1058, Sunshine was the only option to unlock the bootloader. And to use it, you needed to be on 4.4.2 or lower, and never had 4.4.4 or higher on your phone.
IF you have a Rogers Canada XT1058 or other non-ATT XT1058, you should be able to get your bootloader unlock code directly from Moto's web site.

My ATT XT1058 is on lollypop.
And i read its dangerous to downgrade my os.
Hmm... dead end for me, so far...
I have a moto x xt1053 that i can't open the Boot loader on Motorola web page, coz is not allowed for my device as Motorola support said to me, coz is not a dev edition.
I want to install CM11 or later, it is possible without opening the Boot loader?
TIA

Sucks man sounds like you are screwed.
What carrier was it originally associated with? The XT1053 was used for T-Mobile in the US and was unlockable. I believe XT1053 was also used for the Dev Edition for AT&T in the US, while their retail edition was XT1058.
My friend has an XT1053 for T-Mobile that was not a developer edition, it was customized with Moto Maker and I unlocked it for him from the Motorola website.
Are you sure you have an XT1053?
Thats the same phone like your friend. My friend bought it online on the moto maker home page.
Well my friend tried many times but without success...
Can you give me some advice... @fury683 TIA

The non-Developer Edition XT1053 was also bootloader Unlockable via Moto's web site but it voids the warranty.
If your XT1053 is the "GSM Unlocked (ships with T-Mobile SIM)" or "GSM unlocked (ships with Net 10 SIM)" it should still be bootloader unlockable via Moto's web site.
A few things...
Try a different browser. If you are using Chome, try IE instead, or vice versa.
Take the output from the get_unlock_data command, and paste it into NOTEPAD (if you use windows) on your PC... Turn Word Wrap OFF. Edit out the spaces and any carriage returns so the string is one single line, and then copy the edited string to the clip board to paste into the web site.
If the phone is less than a week old, keep trying. There have been issues/delays with the codes being available on the Moto web site.
Try signing into the Moto site using the original email address used to purchase the phone (i.e. your friend purchased, then have your friend use his/her email to try requesting the code)
Call Moto's support. If they refuse to help, or tell you that you can't unlock your bootloader, point them to -> https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/87215 which says the T-Mobile X (XT1053) CAN be bootloader unlocked (but voids the warranty).
Take a look at this thread in the Peer to Peer Moto Owners forum -> https://forums.motorola.com/posts/f2061da875
Thanks for your time.
I checked the peer to peer forum but my CID is different, its not on the list. Mine is 0x09.
I already contacted 2 different moto customer support, i gave them the IMEI code and they told me its not unlockable, because its not dev edition. The also said the unlockable boot loader program is only for dev edition.
Xda was my last hope because the official way didn't brought me anyway further.
Sorry for my bad english, and hope you guys have still some tips for me

0x0009 is on the list in the Owners forum (0x0009 = 0x09) as being UNLOCKABLE (is in the list on the left). The list on the left says "Your device is unlockable if the CID value returned is" and 0x09 is under that headding.
ANd the reps told you WRONG. Their web site lists Rogers Canada, they use the XT1058. For USA it lists Sprint (which is XT1056), USC (is XT1055 i think), and TMO (is definitely XT1053 but not considered Dev Edition).
There are only TWO Developer Editions... GSM and "for Verizon". Verizon is an XT1060. There is NO Dev Edition for Sprint, USC, Rogers Canada, or Latin America, yet those are listed on -> https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/87215 as being UNLOCKABLE.
Please follow the instructions on the Moto Owners Forum. Do the steps and post the info. See what they say.
Finally we unlocked it. It took us some time chatting with moto supporters till 2AM in the morning but we did it.
Thanks a lot guys

Sorry to bother you again but do you have any tips on how to root it now. The phone its on 4.4.4. Can i just use CF-Autoroot or do i have to downgrade to 4.4.2? I have read that downgrading brings to Precam brick...
What do you recomand me?
TIA
1. Download the latest SuperSU.zip onto the phone or computer
2. download a recovery onto a computer
3. Flash the recovery in bootloader using fastboot
4. Boot into recovery using the Vol+ button to select option
5. If SuperSU.zip was downloaded to computer, use adb to push the zip file to /sdcard flash SuperSu.zip. If not, skip to step 6.
6. Flash SuperSU.zip in recovery
7. Reboot into system
Remember what having an unlocked bootloader allows you to do, this process isn't much different from any other device with an unlocked bootloader. Why would you do anything other than the steps I listed above with an unlocked bootloader? Read up on what downgrading can and will do to our phone.

You have to keep in mind there are some old threads for those with LOCKED bootloaders who want to root which will not apply to you. Some of those OLDER processes recomend downgrading, BUT that was only safe during the SlapMyMoto process (downgrading from 4.4 to 4.2.2 w/camera due to NOT CHANGE in the bootloader and gpt.bin). Once 4.4.2, 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 is on your phone, DOWNGRADING IS NOT SAFE!!! AND NOT RECOMMENDED!!!! due to the high rate of bricks it has caused.
After unlocking your bootloader, the best way to root is to see -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...-unlocking-t2649738/post54796193#post54796193
Thanks for the info this helped me out!
Hey, i was trying to room/recovery my moto x. So i got to the part where i get my unlock code/data from fastboot mode.
And then when i plug that code into this website: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b
i get the result: ununlockable. It says my device does not qualify for unlocking. Is there another way to unlock the bootloader?
if its for verizon or at&t its locked tight and no chances of unlocking it.

There was no "T-Mobile version" at least not a T-Mobile Branded version.
There was a "GSM Unlocked (Ships with T-Mobile SIM)" version available via MotoMaker. Or you could use an XT1058 after sim unlocking it.
You need to look at the very FINE print on the back, at the bottom of the phone to see the model. OR if you have a Developer Edition, it will say in "big" letters on its back.

Thanks, I got the bootloader unlocked
I just get my moto X 2014, when I try to unlock the bootloader it says your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking.
My CID is 0x001
On motorola forum they said that AT&T devices are not unlockable
Then I just don't understand why there are so many mod, flashable ZIP on XDA for ATT XT1097
It is unlockable, how to you flash a TWRP to flash them

Only the 1097 from AT&T cannot be unlocked. All the other 1097 models can be unlocked which is why there is mods, roms and twrp for those.
Sorry, but you can't unlock, flash twrp, nor use custom roms on the AT&T model.
