Unable to Mount Internal SD - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

This from a real noob, but I thought I would solict some additional input if there is some trick I have missed on my problem.
Since installing CM 10 on my Vivid, everything has worked well except the fact my internal SD has gone away. Based on stuff I have read here I have tried the following:
1. Factory Reset - no help
2. Mount drive using installed recovery, CWM - No Help
3. Install TWRP recover and try that, no help
4, Try various apps from Play Store, No Help
At this point it seems best to me to return the phone to factory state and see if the internal card is there, if it is, unlock the boat loader, install TWRP recover, then flash the rom, then boot imate (s on) and hope it works.
Any app that requires root and access to all the drives errors out.
A large group thanks to all of you who post so much info on the phone, and how to do things.

I assume you've tried mounting Internal SD in the Settings/Storage menu?

Internal Mounting
Thanks for reminding me about this, but yes, I have tried it numerous times but it doesn't work. A bit frustrating since it keeps me from storing certain stuff or using some rooted apps. Unless I find some other way, I will give the restore option a try in a few days when I get home.
Appreciate the reply.

My guess... Is you did a reset from fastboot...
If that is the case... I recommend getting twrp... Installing that... Mounting both storages in recovery... Then hook to your windows PC... And let windows format your internal SD...
After a reboot... Your phone will either mount your internal... Or offer to format it again... At which point it will work...
Unless we are talking about apps2sd in CM11...

As far as I know I did not reset from fastboot, but I have been in that mode a good number of times, so it is very possible.
I replaced CWM recover with TWRP and it would not allow me to mount the internal card, but the phone booted up OK, just no internal card. So I tried another factory reset and while in TWRP I noticed I was also getting a "can't mount /emmc/" message. Phone still boots up ok and works except for apps requiring access to the internal card.
I ran across some reference to a recovery called aroma something that is supposed to help with this problem, but am not sure it will work with my phone, still researching that.
So maybe this is pretty good evidence I did screw up and reset from fastboot?
I figure I am going to have to restore the phone to factory status, and start over, but I will wait to see if there any other suggestions.
Thanks again for the feedback.

Ok...
You were close...
Don't mount internal for twrp...
Mount as USB mass storage in the same menu...
Then connect to windows...

[Q] Help! Corrupted internal SD Card and can't find a way to wipe

First, some background:
I've had the S for 2 months now and about a month ago I applied JG5/Modaco r2 and Mimocam lag fix. All was well, 1800+ benchmark figures and no lag at all. That was until a few days ago....
As I was reading on the device, a number of errors started to pop up, force closes, etc. It stopped responding completely so I took the battery out and rebooted. Straight away I was hit with multiple force close and 'process stopped unexpectedly' messages. Basically, it was an unusable brick.
When I took the SD card out the errors were different so, figuring it was related to the Mimocam fix, I decided to undo it. I removed the symlink to the sd card and copied everything to the local data directory.
That didn't work, so I did a hard reset. Which also didn't work. Worse than that, I now can't get the phone to connect in any way to the PC so can't reflash and I can't access any settings on the phone because the error messages keep appearing and obscuring the screen.
Last thing I tried was repartitioning the SD card to see if the ext3 partition was corrupt and that hasn't helped either.
Which is where I am now. What I really want to do is wipe the internal SD and effect a total factory reset but I can't think of any way to do it. I can't access the phone through adb (device not found), Kies (keeps trying to connect but never does) and I can't do it through the phone. I also can't send it back because it has 'flashed rom' written all over it, especially when a root request pops up in the background.
I'm all out of ideas, short of trying to degauss it somehow.
Help! Please!

Or recovery mode: format sd card, clear cache etc ?
Turn the phone off, hold Home + Vol -, then press Power.
I don't see how you can get error messages there...
Doesn't work, I can't get it in to recovery mode. Neither vol up or down work using the 3 button hold. I've tried repeatedly and it just boots as normal, although the animation doesn't display while it boots but it does play the audio.
So I take it I'm f***ed then?
bumping this up and subscribing. I hope you find a solution soon, man.
if you know what your firmware was, get it from samsung-firmwares, get odin, and flash your phone. maybe that will solve your problem.
Keep in mind that I wont be responsible if your phone gets bricked if you mess up the procedure (however the chances of it being bricked is very less if you follow the instructions properly).
search the forum for flashing via odin.

No, I've tried over and over and d/l mode doesn't work. The phone just reboots.

Try the Vol + Recovery mode. The timing is a bit tricky.
On my phone, if I keep Vol+, Home and Power button held down, the phone goes into a reboot loop (it keeps showing the logo, blank, logo, blank). After the logo appears the 2nd time, wait 1 second then release the Power button. Then it goes into the Recovery mode.
If you can't get it to work, try it without the USB/power plugged in as well.
Tried settings/sd card and phone storage/unmount internal sd/format? Or u could do settings/security/factory reset
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I can't really try that because, as I said, I can't get past any of the error messages that pop up on the phone.
Have had to bite the bullet and take it in to T-mo for a repair and hope they don't notice
Will find out in 28 days.
I had a similar problem with JPC. After a while both the internal and external sd cards crapped out. After pulling the external sd and many tries I was able to boot into recovery mode where it says something like E: cant mount etc.
After pulling the ext sd card I was able to get into download mode and downgrade to JM7 with odin. After formatting with odin. It took two tries.
I still don't have access or storage on both the int and ext sd. I have roughly 2gb storage on the internal non-sd memory of the phone (i am not sure what it is but its enough to run android and I can make calls).
I can't install apps use the camera or anything that uses either of the sd cards for storage.
I did try a new sd card that was installed on the phone when it was stock FW but it doesnt work either.
I have a thread posted about it.

am wondering, did your phone ever work with the three button mode to enter download/recovery ? or did you always flash using "adb reboot recovery" ?

it would be nice if there was a way.
I agree with Electroz.
there is a new software out by Samsung
new PC Studio, it comes with a feature to "Emergency Restore"
you can try that, and see if that does anything to the internal SD
links are on the SGS wiki, click my link

I'll give it a shot, downloading now.
I'm not sure where to send my phone in, I called samsung, they sent me to bell, but I bought my phone from best buy and I'm with fido...
It sees both drives, but that's about it, when I try to click on them it just says "insert the disk into drive ..."
There has to be a way to format the internal card with a third party application. I'm gonna keep looking.

[Q] Emergency! Cannot restore Nexus One!

Hello out there!
I sure hope someone can help me with this! I have rendered my phone completely useless. I have been working on this thing for the past 7 straight hours.
I upgraded to the 5.08 radio and then the MIUI_Au_1.1.28_R4_N1_EN-signed.zip
Everything was working beautifully until I decided to do a Nandroid restore. I guess I did not truly understand the function of this. After a reboot, I was back at square one.
I rebooted again into the recovery mode and then wiped and reinstalled the new rom. Now the new rom is giving me an error. I cannot get any network connectivity from it. I wipe and reinstall several more times and get the same effect.
This is when I get the idea to format and partition the SDcard from within the recovery menu. This was clearly not the best choice.
I cannot get the phone to restore back to factory anymore. The SDcard is empty. I have even taken it out. When it boots up it still boots into some non-working version of the new MIUI rom. No network connectivity. Where is it storing this? I have wiped everything possible. Played with partitions. I have tried hard resetting in the limited interface and in the Recovery console.
At this point, I cannot work on this any longer. My next idea is to put the micro SD card in another device and put original stock image on it. Is it possible that the new rom installed a kernel and that is what I am seeing? I figure if I can install a different rom from the SD card I might just be ok.
Any input into this mess would be greatly appreciated. Because I still have access to the Recovery console I know this is not the end for my phone.
Someone please tell me they know what is going on!
I would be happy to elaborate any more points regarding this issue.
It seems to me that I am not able to delete something because the new rom keeps coming up. Where is it booting from if I wiped everything?
I am at my witts end!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful responses!
glizitch
If you can enter the recovery mode, you just have to enable the SDCard to browse it from your computer. From there you can push in the sdcard whatever zip you wish. Remember to wipe cache and data.
If you can't enter the recovery mode, go in fastboot and flash it again.
And of course, the ROM is booting from /system partition on internal Flash memory in the device, which you can't wipe without knowing fastboot/adb commands - which obviously isn't the case. Wiping SD card won't do anything, and wiping user data isn't going to help you either.
As already mentioned above, since your recovery is working - get into it, mount the USB-MS, connect to PC, copy a ROM of your choice to the SD card, unmount, flash it, enjoy. I suggest RTFM before doing things.
Gratitude!
Thank you for your replies!
I have been putting off doing this upgrade for some time and have been living with limited functionality on the phone due to the amount of time and research I would have to put in to make sure I cross all my t's and dot all my i's.
I was never able to get the MS-USB toggle to work. Windows XP would not show I had put a new drive in when I used it.
I remedied the situation by getting a microSD to SD adapter so that I could put the new rom on the SD card. I used the original microSD card at first and installed the MIUI again. This caused me the same results of rebooting a few times before it went into the rom. When it got in I had no network connectivity.
I decided I would try this brand new microSD card and put the EvIL rom 1.26 on it instead.
I wiped and installed the Evil rom on the new card and Walla!
I have Evil rom now working with network functionality. There must have been some kind of hidden garbage on the old microSD that was keeping me down.
8 hours into the project, I AM SO HAPPY TO HAVE MY PHONE UP AND RUNNING!!!!
I hope others may find this post useful!
Many Blessings & Thanks!

Internal SD card issue - Need Guru help

Guys, need some help here
I'm generally ok at fixing these sorts of problems but this one has got me well and truly stumped.
Been trying without much luck to flash a working fw onto i9000 since updating to rom with voodoo and forgetting to disable lage fix before flashing non voodoo rom. Even flashing back with voodoo rom doesnt help.
I think I've finally managed to ascertain the root cause of the issue seems to be that either the internal sd card is somehow write protected or the current journalling on the ext4 partition is undoing and changes to that partition (where does journal reside?). I seem to be in a viscious circle as well. I cant mkfs a new ext2 partition as it complains that it wasnt unmounted cleanly, If I ignore I get a segmentation fault. If I e2fsck the partition it complains it cant write to the superblock, If I use alternate superblock it complains there is data in the journal, trys to replay the journal and complains it cant write the superblock. If I tunefs to disable the journal it complains that the needs_recovery flag is set so need to e2fsck the filesystem first :-S.
I've flashed kernel that has recovery option to disable lagfix. If I choose this and reboot it just sits at Galaxy S boot screen indefinite (over an hour waited). If I mount USB using same recovery mode, I can see the files in the partition, I can (through windows) delete the files so folder shows no files however disk still shows a percentage used. If I eject and remount all the files are back. I have formatted the partition as fat32 and re-labeled the drive. Format completes succesfully (done this both using cmd line and right click format). on eject and remount, label change has remained but files are back again. Partition still shows up as ext4 when looking via adb shell.
Have tried to use parted, but despite all parted functions giving success indicator, no changes are ever made.
I'm now at a loss on how to proceed?
Anyone any ideas on what next steps could yield any further results?
I had a similar issue... what solved it was to flash Darky's ressurection rom. Had to flash it 3 times in a row.. Flashed with Odin 1.7.
Hope it helps, i know how frustrating it is.

I have tried Darkys res rom, It wouldnt boot, just stuck at Galaxy S boot screen so didnt persue it. I'll try doing it multiple times as you suggest and let you know. Ta
EDIT: Nope tried it 4 times, same result, boots to Galaxy S screen, I get the voice prompt saying its coverting system, will take approx 2 mins, then another voice prompt about restore, then it sits there indefinetly (waited about 20 mins each time). Whilst its in this state adb devices shows device in recovery, and I can get an adb shell, however there seems to be no commands accesible, cd, ls, mount etc

I have a way that may fix your bricked phone. If it gets to the SGS logo boot animation, I would try flashing CM7. Try it out and then try reverting back to a stock rom.
Here are the instructions:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/15275-gt-i9000-cyanogenmod-7-we-love-bugs-version-20110211/
You MUST follow the instructions to the letter though. Do not deviate from them!
How do I know this may work? Because it happened to me. My phone was bricked, then I flashed CM7 and now it works again. I've tested going back to stock rom and it works. Give it a try. It may be tough reverting back to stock since CM7 gingerbread is awesome! lol
If that doesn't work try flashing one of the earlier Froyo ROMs, I used XXJP2, and then moving on from there. The key is to ensure that whatever ROM you use has all three files (PDA, Modem, & CSC) and tick Re-Partitioning on Odin.
Again this is what worked for me and my device was restored to great working order.

Thanks for the suggestion but this wont work, as I said above, the root of my problem is that the internal SD card wont keep any changes I make to it. Once I upload the zip file and the phone reboots into download mode in order to flash with Odin, the files I would have put on the internal SD card will no longer be there. It seems to me that the FS cant set the recovery_flag to clean and therefore keeps replaying the journal and overwriting any changes on reboot.
I sort of proved this earlier, by managing to flash JP4 with speedmod kernel. This allows the phone to boot, but it has major force close issues. I can take a photo, see it in images, I can even mount it via USB and see it on my laptop. When I reboot, the photo is gone and anything I've deleted is back again.
Fundamentally I need someone who maybe has some experience fixing the filesystem, I cant see any Roms working until this manages to get resolved

[Q] Formatting Internal Storage

I think I may have a brick on my hands. Is there a way to format my internal storage through adb or other methods? the phone works, sort of, but the internal storage is not recognized by the system and no changes can be made to it by programs or my recovery. Wiping the SD card through various methods does nothing, even the Droid 4 Utility goes through the steps "successfully" but the phone shows no changes. Is there a way to treat the phone like a hard drive and just wipe the entire thing? Thanks for your input.

It sounds like maybe the internal storage is set to read only. Use root explorer or something similar and check to see if if that is the case and change it if need be.

thanks for the reply. i tried this and having the same result. this is the strangest thing i've ever seen. while the phone is on everything i try looks "successful" but as soon as the phone reboots it's like it forgot. this probably just means the changes never took place but for some reason everything looks like it works when it is on. now i have a basic phone that can make and receive calls, no other apps can be used, launched, deleted, etc.

[Q] External SD-Card not mounted (HTC ONE)

Hello folks
I opened this thread as having serious problem with extSD Card. During rooting and flashing process I accidentally wiped both int and ext contents. Luckily brought back my phone from grave as obviously no OS and full erase. I installed new OS with Sideload using Hasoon2000's All-in-One toolkit. Unfortunately I cannot bring back mounted ext SD card and also PC seen only Internal storage. This is boring as I cannot flash anything. More over I worry to reset phone because often freeze during boot.
Read plenty of threads and checked-out everything possible with no avail. I desperately look for viable solution help to bring back my phone to right order.
I am sure this thread helps many of us with identical problem.
Thanks for ideas and clues! :good:

Any luck? Having the same problems.
Having the same problem.. External_SD card won't mount since i unlocked my bootloader, again.. NO S-Off yet. I have a custom ROM flashed via ADB Side Load... But as soon as i flashed the custom ROM, External_SD card was fine... Cuz my HTC One X won't mount either all of a sudden, and That phone's straight, no worries there... My device manager has the caution sign in portable devices... I wanna say it's my computer, but still could be my phone... I'm using TWRP recovery and i'm able to see what's on my SDCard through there, before that i had CWM and it didn't do ish for me... Any insight on this would be awesome..
