How are people finding their gps?
Mine seems to struggle unless outside whereas the old DROID RAZR next to it will work fine even upstairs indoors.

Mine seems to work perfectly, even indoors, although it takes more time to find a satelite under a roof.
Mind if I ask which rom version you

I surprise with your perform in indoors places... I have a galaxy ace, and it takes a long time to connect with satelites.
Mine seems to work fine. I haven't really used it much at all, but I'm in a concrete building, on the 2nd of 3 floors, and it got a lock in a few seconds.
Mine is very good - about a minute to get down to less than 5 m accuracy - using GPS Status and the ArcGIS Application with very detailed basemaps (part of my work).
The only thing is, like my Defy, the height data is rubbish, saying 180 m at the moment instead of 118 - is this a generic Android thing?
I've just put a Sim card in my phone and the GPS works much better!
I was planning to just use this phone as a media player and sat nav for my car hence no Sim Card but I didn't really expect it to make much difference having one in. Its quicker and more accurate!

Short version:
Before you bought the Xperia SP, which other mobiles were you taking into consideration and what made you choose (or not) the SP?
Long version:
Here's the thing: today I was ready - I finally went to a shop and proudly said "I want to buy the Xperia SP". Unfortunately they only had the white version so I'll have to wait one more week. This was quite disappointing because I really, really wanted it so badly and since I now have another week to decide maybe there are other/better alternatives among midrange smartphones?
Thanks!
Tons of others phones.
Optimus G, but no card slot. Nexus 4, same problem.
Galaxy S4, unfortunately far too expensive.
MI2-A, no SD slot, again.
Motorola Razr HD, CPU sucks. Same with the HTC One X+.
HTC One? No way to get a 64gb here in ****ty Europe.
So, well, the SP is the only 720p phone with a microSD slot, and a good built quality that I can afford.
Only big problem: devs support. We have DoomLord, but no one else. I'm afraid we will never get CyanogenMod.
Some time ago I've spoken with fxp. They said they need to buy phone to start development.
This device is fresh so don't expect development will start from day of release.
BTW. XSP is middle range device... This is next reason to start development later then e.g. XZ relatively.
I was considering buy N4 or XSP or wait for some time and collect more money and buy SGN2 or XZ.
C5303 is great device, powerfull, supported LTE, nice looking, with 'big' screen, made from good quality materials, with usefull transparent iluminated bar, with good quality camera and other hardware and released with 4.1.2 (Google said that phones need to be upgraded for 18 mounths from release so we can expect something above then 4.2.2 with this specs).

Well I am thinking of getting this one. And I see no existing PA or CM support. But I used to compile my own ROMs for my Nexus (which is dead and the reason why I am getting this one) so I think I can compile for this ROM too, the only difficulty being the illumination bar API, on which I have never wrked till date.
Plus its a relatively new phone, so we will see more action once other devs buy the device too!
Cheers mates!

Are you really going to recant about buying an XPERIAâ„¢ SP just for waiting a week to get the color you want? Really? I must wait another half year to get mine and it isn't available here in Mexico still. I don't want to be mean but don't be like that. I'd wish to have your luck, about being in your situation.
There aren't better options for a midrange smartphone with the potential of this XSP, really, it'll be very worthy to wait for it.

... But there is no need to implement illumination api in apps/system in begin stage. First we need fully working cm then we can think about transparent bar and it's lights Think this is not so hard to implement it. Sony release api and documentation also great will be see floating touch working like in stock rom (gloves mode).

As of now, Best mid range phone is still SP. S3 is a bit more expensive, but SP is better than it (except for camera and if you like amoled). If you want you can wait for HTC one mini, although its only 4.3 inches and price is not yet revealed.

I believe the HTC to be far more expensive, without any expansion port, and with a huge bezel.
S3 is a good choice, yea. But the S4 mini is a complete joke. No HD, and the worst pricing ever.
Maybe, for someone that is not in a hurry, waiting for the X Phone could be a good idea. But for now, SP (and S3) rules.
Hmmm, I 1st look at N4, but it cost as much as a XZL, not worth it I guess, but getting either one will blow my budget. so I then get an XV, after three weeks a member of my local Facebook group is interested to swap his SP with My V.. He is a mobile seller who get the SP for free, but he need a waterproof phone as he ride a bike. So that how I get the SP.

well, today I bought the SP - I like it a lot, the only downsides are:
- WIFI signal
- Camera is quite weak
- can't connect it to my Mac?! the option to access the storage in order to transfer files isn't there.. (tg there's airdroid)
I'll try it over the weekend but if the wifi is still an issue (intermittent signal 5m from the router with no walls in between!) I'll give it back and will look for an alternative.. we'll see

Battery: ok, I installed plenty of apps and had exactly 70% left. Oddly enough this morning I had 71% left so there's a calibration issue. Now after 5 hours of occasional 3g, 20 min of offline music and some messaging it's at 29%.
Photos : not impressed
Wifi and 3g: connectivity is very poor.. my old Desire was a lot better and reliable
Screen: it's on auto brightness and honestly note while typing this message the luminosity changed about 10 times, pretty annoying.
Audio: excellent!
Overheating: no
(While writing this message the battery dropped to 26%)
I am seriously considering to give it back, I like the phone but the connectivity issue seems to be h hardware related.. I'm a moment of madness I even thought about buying an iPhone5 instead..

About battery... Battery live is good - 2+ days standard usage: sms, calling, 3g always on, about 50 minutes wifi activity, stamina on, some photos and movies.
And when I got my phone first 2 days was waring... Battery was very week. I have charged my phone about 3-4 times. And on third day battery is ok strange but I'm happy it now working correctly.
Mobile signal is ok. Like in my previous Xperia S.
Wifi is week - waiting for SW update.
Autobrightness must be improved, this is not working properly.
Camera is not so good, waiting for SW update.
Usefull transparent illumination bar. VERY VERY GOOD IDEA TO PLACE IT IN THIS PHONE!!!!

Yep, indeed. Only that it's slightly bigger, heavier and more expensive. But apart from that it looks like the waterproof twin of the SP Actually, if the wifi problems still hold on I might go back to the store and try to get the ZR instead.
Well, today I gave my SP back and fetched a S4 Mini instead.
I'm not saying all SPs have the same issues as mine had, but the ones that I had (below) were pretty severe and after talking twice to the Xperia customer service and 2 factory resets they were like "just return it". I guess I was unlucky but here's what went wrong and what I really liked:
What I liked:
- Battery: after 2 full days I still had 12% left
- Screen: it's simply wonderful
- Call quality: The sound was really really good
What went wrong:
- WiFI was just horrible as I often lost signal even with the router being 3 meters away. I tried changing the router's channel/frequency but that didn't help, even my old HTC Desire has much better WiFI signal.
- Multitasking: Couldn't use 3g with Chrome (2-3 tabs open) and listen to Google Music (playing music from the SD card) at the same time as it always closed Google Music. I guess I should have seen that one coming with 1gb RAM only.
- Call issues: today all of a sudden I could only hear the other person speaking when using headphones or by activating the speaker
Hello!tomorrow is my mom birthday so I want to give her a present.I think xperia sp is the best phone that suit her the most but I search on Google I see that xperia sp have a display and touch screen problem. So what xperia sp user should I buy it or not. ....my mom only use it for call message facebook map. ...no need to root or anything. Please reply it fast I only got 10 hour left.sorry for my bad English

One-week Review
I myself bought this phone a week back, and I must say, I am happy with the phone.
Fortunately, I didn't have the touch problem in my device. When connected to USB though,
the voltage levels are screwed somehow and the touch behaves abnormally. But still,
files can be transferred with ease. The processor is kick-ass! And also the notification LED!
The battery drain is there, which stems from the various junk-ware installed, but mainly due to
Media Storage and the Google Location Sync. Camera is pretty good for me. However, one downside
I found is the Wi-Fi reception. Sucks big-time! Keeps dropping signals frequently, however does not
affect speed when connected.
Taking both downsides and advantages of this phone, I am in love with my device! Rest is up to you
to decide whether the downsides are grave enough for you to change your choice to another model!
All the best! :good:

Biggest negative point of Xperia SP is its camera. Daytime photography is ok but nighttime pictures are crap. As u mentioned that the wifi router is in your mom's room so the wifi signal strength would be fine. Few people have reported the touch problem but that is when the phone is connected to USB cable or wall charger. Other times the touch response is great. The display is sharp and colours are good, but it is a bit reflective. This issue is when outdoors, but one can always increase the screen brightness.
Best part is the performance for its cost & that LED notification bar, makes the phone look sexy.
So if camera is not the most important requirement, go for it bro.

This issue is with almost all the Sony phones & not only the Xperia SPs. That is because the display used by Sony in their phones is not as good as the display used by some other manufactures like Samsung, HTC etc. However the problem is not severe. You can still use it outdoors if you manually increase the screen brightness a bit. I am from India & even my model is C5302. I have not faced any phone restart issue with my SP till now.
Good luck with your purchase & wish your mom a happy birthday.
P.S. Try to use the "thanks" button (on left side, below the profile picture) for saying thanks. It reduces the number of unnecessary posts written just for saying thanks.

You can have a look at Glaxy S4 mini, Nexus 4 or Glaxy S3. These cost about same as Xperia SP or slightly more. Xperia L is also an option.
But as far as value for money is concerned I feel Xperia SP & Xperia L are better.
For those who have the device, how does your wifi signal strength compare. Sitting at my desk, I get no bars now where on my OneX I got 2 or 3.

Same issue here on a phone from O2 with the latest software installed.
Compared to an iphone 5 struggles to hang onto signal. Tried both bands as well, same issue.
I can see my work wifi in a location I frequent with previous phones.
I can connect and use it even though it gives me just a dot for the signal. other phones struggle in this same location.
Perhaps try turning off Wifi power saving in the settings

guys from what I've seen don't go by the little signal strength indicator on the notification bar as it doesn't really reflect what's actually happening, I had a XZU for a few weeks and a Z before that, I can pick up wifi connections on both the XZU and Z1 were the Z was out of range, I was sitting in a bar last night connected to a wifi AP that was about 100m away and there are structures and people in-between, the Z1 is as good as the ZU when connecting to wifi and both are better than the Z

Wifi on my Z1 C6903 seems really poor.
Connected to 5Ghz on a dual band wifi router situated in the tv room. I don't get any connectivity from my room which is around 10m away.
I used to get decent connectivity on my iphone 5 - speedtest of around 14mbps. I can't even connect to speedtest on my Z1.
On a sidenote - what is with the headphone button not working. Had to update to .534 after much googling. Also, the new firmware doesn't help the wifi issues. Who knows how long we'll have to wait for a fix ...which may or may not improve it.
Also, did try to turn off the wifi power saving "feature" as well. Didn't do much.
Anyways that's my feedback.

Basically it is rubbish so far. The signal and speed is not as good as other devices.
Interested in hearing more from people who say it is fine.
Fine compared to what? Can you give examples?
---------- Post added at 04:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:41 PM ----------
As an example between Z1 and a 5S.
Same router, same distance.
Speedtest.net app on each phone.
Z1
Ping: 248ms
Down: 0.42
Up: 1.25
5S
Ping: 45ms
Down: 17.49
Up: 2.5
(I have around 20mbit fibre with around 3-4mbit up)
How frustrating, I was looking at upgrading to this phone, and reading most of the posts floating around I am having huge deja vu experiences with the newly launched Xperia Z and the pains associated with being some of the first. I feel for you all.
While we are talking WIFI, anyone tested the 802.11ac bands?

Alright, thanks for your opinion... I'll try to go back to older firmwares to test wether it is hardware or software related
If this is a hardware problem, Sony will have some BIGGGGGGG trouble
EDIT : Okay, I have just went back to 524 firmware to test and I can confirm that the problem still persists.
As I wrote in the other thread my phone seems fine, tried 5 times. Someone said that it happened when you got in contact with the aluminium.
So I took the phone out of its case and tried, still fine.
More ajour the issue here

I've noticed a loss of touch across the right edge of the screen, most noticable when playing candy crush and i want to switch on the far right, but in normal use it's absolutely fine, points to software in this case.
If you want to know if there are problems then download a multi touch app and move your finger across every inch of the screen, if you lose contact you'll know theres a problem and you'll have some tangible evidence when you take it back to the shop.
Im so pissed at this crappy thouch screen.. if i type to fast and not hard enough it wont register it.. aspesially annoying with the spacebar.. its like 50/50 chance its gonna work each time.. is this hardware or software?? Such an high en product and it really sucks.. gonna go back to my s3 if this isnt fixable..

I'm starting to rather dislike Sony now . I can't believe so many problems can be found on a $5998 HKD, HIGH END smartphone . When I first saw an Xperia Z1, I immediately fell in love with it. I decided to save up all my money to get one, for a few months I only used 1/4 of my lunch money for lunch. And then you know what? I end up with a f*cked up touchscreen, bootloader unlocking problems and a yellow, ugly screen that don't want to see anymore. More then 6 of my friends are gonna buy an Xperia Z1 (cuz they saw mine) But I'm gonna make them change their minds and buy something else.
I thinking they assembling the product with different quality hardware for differen continent. I got mine all original and working fine. I just saying.
We are some people on the sonymobile forum with the issue.

I'm planning that also. However, I'm still giving my z1 a chance until the kitkat upgrade next yr.. If it really sucked again then it's goodbye sony and choose Nexus from now on.
I have the N5 and trust me, it has it's fair share of problems. The RMA thread is over 40 pages long http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2515575&page=40
The speaker is an absolute joke (through headphones it's not bad), the camera once again is subpar and battery life is half of what I get with the Z1. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot to like about the N5, just don't get pissed off at Sony and go Nexus and think all your problems will be solved.

You're right, However if switching to another device will solve our main gripe then it would not be so bad. I really dont want to give up on my z1 however it really sucks to have this kind of problem. Everything is working fine, no overheat, wifi issue, black screen, yellow tint. Just this annoying touch problem.

I agree, on a device this expensive it should defect free. I have the yellow screen issue but not the touch problem. The yellow screen is definitely annoying because no screen adjuster I have tried solves the problem. And when you compare it side by side with a N5 or HTC One, you really see just how bad the yellow hue makes the screen look. I guess I can live with it now and hope for a solution but it's a shame there has to be threads like these full of the typical QC problems that Android has become infamous for.
