Lost access to sdcard0 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've used an app which has accidentally attempted to format my storage. I think it died mid way though. Now, in CM File Manager, and when I connect to a PC, sdcard0 is no longer accessible. How might I resolve this?
Perhaps sdcard0 could be revived be following these steps?
Settings -> Storage -> USB Storage -> Erase SD
(assuming "USB Storage" is sdcard0?)
Any help much appreciated.
I am using CM11 nightly (20 Dec build).

USB storage mode will allow you access on all Drives (SD cards) you have, so you can use PC to copy, edit, format etc. You do this direct from Phone settings or via CWM mount USB storage command. Anything to do with SD card read this for guide

"mount USB storage" doesn't seem to do anything. And seperately trying to mount sdcard0 gives an error.
I guess next thing to try is "format sdcard0". But I'm not sure which filesystem to choose: default, vfat, exfat,ntfs,ext4,ext3 or ext2?

Samsung Stock ROM's can only use rfs or fat 32 format, if you have custom kernel, than its possible for other formats , mostly ext 2 or 4.

did you try to uninstalled the app you installed that caused this , cleared its data and cache? Since it says Shared-unmounted, it would be linked to something that you had installed. Also you can try settings menu > Storage to see if you have a mount feature on it,

OK some progress, I've booted back into the phone and sdcard0 is now accessible via File Manager.
Can't seem to get mounted via USB though - usually I just plug in the USB cable and it asks for me for confirmation to connect. I'm still set to UMS, not sure what the problem is now.
And yes, the app was uninstalled long ago. (FWIW the app is GateWay Flash http://gbatemp.net/threads/app-gatewayflash.358753/ which just attempts to write files "raw" onto the SD card (i.e. from sector 0, ignoring any file system).. unlucky for me it was incompatible with my phone and ended up writing to sdcard0 instead of the external sd card)

Kitkat 4.4
Semaphore 3.4.0

I'm reflashing the CM ROM now, does that also overwrite the kernel with the default CM kernel?

Easiest way to would be to get back (downgrade) to stock gingerbread ROM, using a PIT file to repartition the partitions, like here . After that upgrade gradually to Kit Kat again. I think, something messed up the system .

Link2sd Invalid argument error

I've been trying to use link2sd but this error "mount script cannot be created. mount:Invalid argument". Other forums give fixes but they are bit vague as to what to do. I need a step by step fix. Please help
You need a partitioned sd card, have you tried other mount formats (fat32, ext2, ext3)?
What rom, kernel and scripts are you running?
Initially I used mini tool to partioned the sd card and all the formats didn't work. so i used cwm to partion the sd card partioning worked but link2sd is won't. Kernel:[email protected]#1
Rom:S5830XWKP7. I haven't an idea about the scripts though. how do i find that?
What is your rom because some roms aren't compatible with this script, but you can install the script !
I'm using a stock rom:S5830XWKP7
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda app-developers app
Link2sd might give trouble in stock roms if the partition is in ext3 or ext4. Cwm makes an ext3 format pqrtition.
With minitool, make the partition in fat32 format, both partitions as primary, and try link2sd with fat32 and ext2 mount scripts to see if one of them mounts succesfully.
If you already tried this and didn't work, i dunno whats wrong, sorry i couldn't help.
Other solutions would be to flash a custom kernel with init.d support (such as cf-root or battery extender) these support all partition formats and give access to other methods of moving apps to the partition (s2e, int2ext script, amarullz, etc)

I had the same problems and I tried switching around the formats too.
One thing that did work for me, twice, was to completely format the card and recreate both the partitions on the SD card each time whenever I flashed a new ROM and was going to use Link2SD or S2E. And I used FAT32 for the Link2SD partition. Formatting only the second partition always gave me the mount error.
Hope this helps!
Not all Aces are equal. I don't know the difference, but I had 2 Aces, the ROM info shows same version of software. On one (older one) EXT3 worked, on the newer one it didn't and I had to use FAT32. Strange. I also noticed one Ace (newer one) is a bit THINNER! Same rooting worked for both Aces...
Partioning both as fat32 doesnt work as the phone reads the card as damaged

Why don't you just use the move to SD card function in Settings > Applications > Manage Applications?
That works however the phone internal memory isnt increased and apps are still part on internal memory

That's how Link2SD works. Internal memory is still the same, and application data isn't moved to the SD card.
The actual app file, dalvik cache and library files are moved to the SD card.
If you go to the application management system option, you'll see applications are still taking all the memory space they're supposed to take. Well, that's what the phone thinks, but they're actually not.
Of course, all of this and more is included in the official [url="http://www.link2sd.info/faq]Link2SD FAQ[/url], but then again, everyone knows FAQs are not supposed to be read, and I won't be bugging you more about this subject because I too didn't read the FAQ at first, and once asked similar questions.

Perhaps the op actually wants to move whole apps to the SD and not leave massive chunks still in /data partition? Or maybe that doesnt provide enough space?
Use cronmod script its a flashable zip you mount/data and mount/system that's it done just search cronmod and you will find what you need
my ace is 'ACE'
invalid argument
both of my partitions are fat32, but i had to select ext4 in link2sd to get it to mount. is this a normal fix? or is it not going to function properly?
is it possible to use an sd card to increase /data and /system? cuz even with link2sd i keep running out of internal space, and ive only got 18 mb free in system. my link2sd is set to install to external and autolink.
im using this rom: 【ROM】【=CM10=】【=Aroma=】| ★★ Optimus Prime v1.8 ★★ | 16-04-2013 | 《 Reborn © ✌ 》

Unavailable internal SD storage

Hello everybody. I'm facing internal SD storage malfunction. When the phone starts the memory is shown, only the system memory is at 0.00b, but after some time all memory becomes unavailable. After the phone starts and I quickly plug the usb I can access the internal SD storage and I can play files from it (the files were put before this happened). I think it is worth mentioning that before this I had error E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 which restricted the phone form booting up. Then I flashed the stock rom (v2.2.1) and speedmod kernel and the phone booted. My phone model is i9000. I would be very grateful for any help you can provide. Thank you for advance.
PS. I have read a lot of articles about this memory problem but I couldn't find any specific solution for i9000.

try a solution for that problem from My Android Solutions
But First powerdown, pull out Battery, SIM CARD, and EXT.SD card, press power
button for a minute, than powerup without SIM and Ext.SD Card....
Tips before Flashing:-
Backup all your important files, contacts, SMS, game data, images etc to PC or
Ext SD card. or make Nanadroid Backup If you have CWM
Backup your EFS Folder to PC or Ext SD card
Enable USB Debugging on Phone. Touch menu>Settings>Applications>Development>
Charge your battery to more than 50% before you attempt any sort of flashing.
Disable Samsung KIES when using Odin. Kill Kies.exe, KiesTrayAgent.exe, &
KiesPDLR.exe using Task Manager on PC
Use only ROM and solution for your model and Wipe x3
Is it possible that I messed up my internal storage because I didn't turned off lagfix when I flashed new custom rom?

you need to format all the partitions back to rfs (vfat or fat32) for samsung phones using firmware, lagfixing would have changed them to ext4.
I have checked the partition type with speedmod kernel and it shows that it is rfs not ext4. so the problem is something else.

If all internal partitions ( meaning system and data ) are rfs, firmwares will not have a problem. unless you had used onenand mode , where the sytem partion will be swapped with the data partition .
anyway the best way to resolve this, is to use the speed mode kernel and have your EXT SD card partitioned into two , to operate the phone like normal till you can resolve the internal sd card problem

[Q] After formatting internal SD with NTFS it can't mount nor format even with CWM

It happened after formatting it with NTFS (it was a temporary thing so I can use it with one of Microsoft services), and my device is working and rebooting properly without any error messages..So what can I do now to make my SD working again?

try formatting the card from within CWM, i presume if you boot up the phone you can't mount/unmount it and subsequently format it from within Android.
but i would try fromating it as FAT32 from within Windows 7 first, NTFS is not supported by Android to the best of my Knowladge...
Thanks, yes I can't format it in Android since i can't mount it, I've already tried formatting it from CWM with no luck, it showed this:
Formatting /sdcard...
Error mounting /sdcard!
Skipping format...
Done.
And windows doesn't see the card at all when I connect phone to PC, so I can't use windows to format it too.

Turned out you're right, the problem is android not being able to handle NTFS properly, I tried to format external SD card with NTFS to see what will happen, and I had the EXACT same symptoms, but of course I removed from phone and had it formatted using card reader and it's working properly now with my phone..
xsenman
The problem now is that windows can't see internal card at all, I've tried one of format tools form the link you put, but it didn't help since phone "doesn't allow" windows to detect the memory, any other way to do it? right now I'm trying this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724078
It seems like it isn't easy to install NTFS support from the link above (since you need fuse.ko file that should be compiled for both your device and ROM), is there any kernal that support NTFS or any other easy way to do it?
If you are talking about your external sd just format at fat32. This is standard for sdcards and your phone wil reconize your card..

Finally, I found a solution, just do the following (I tried it and it worked):
1. First install the drivers ONLY if you haven`t already installed them, also if you have Kies installed there is no need to install these drivers, but you are better off installing these anyway : http://dev-host.org/ZRA
2. Download this package (it includes i9000 stock rom+kernel+odin) : http://dev-host.org/RAE, if you have a Captivate or a Vibrant just download a stock rom for your phone model and find a kernel which has root and cwm in it.
NOTE : The next step will require using the 3 key combo for accessing the clockworkmod recovery and also the download mode. The 3 key combo used below is for the Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000. If you own a Captivate or a Vibrant please click this link and choose your phone model to see what 3 key combo must be used, as it differs from one phone model to another : http://tinyurl.com/6q6ajpx
3. After you have extracted all the contents you downloaded and installed drivers, put your phone into download mode using the 3 key combo : volume DOWN + home button+power button, keep those pressed until it goes into download mode.
4. Connect phone to PC via USB Cable and open Odin (windows should detect the phone and install some drivers, after it`s finished you should see the message "Added!" in Odin which means Odin succesfully detected your phone so now you are ready to flash)>check Re-Partition Option>press PIT button and browse for the s1_odin_20100512.pit file, press BOOTLOADER button and browse for the APBOOT… file, press PDA button and browse for the CODE….file, press PHONE button and browse for the MODEM….file, press CSC button and browse for the GT-I9000-CSC….file. PRESS START button and wait for the green pass notification in Odin.
• When the phone reboots into the rom, wait for the setup wizard to appear and then just use the 3 key combo into the download mode again.
Close Odin and open it again> press PDA button and browse for CF-Root…file> Press START button and wait for the green pass notification in Odin.

Just:

- mounts and storage
- mount USB storage

well, than you have to try using an external SD card with 2 partitions to get phone working ( most likely needs a technician to remove internal SD card and use only external SD card. I am not sure if there have a modified kernel for this device and if any i9000 ROM can be used, if possible than you can use speedmod kernel to get phone working, so PM those who have threads about SC 02B about it.
search in this forum for guide a ny possible guide too

[MOD] ZTE Blade S6 (P839F30) partitioning storage

Hi,
if you feel like repartitioning your device or just try something new. Now you can...
I had a look at the partitions of our device and thought of merging the userdata and sdcard0 partitions to gain more space and using the newer storage layout with data/media. After searching I found some infos, changed a script and voila it worked and now I have one partition for data and media.
Preparation:
Caution playing with the partition table is very risky and can damage your device permanently or to say it can brick!!!
Make every backup you can thing of!
So maybe go into QHSUSB__BULK mode by using attached Send_Command.exe like stated below, where comport is your actual port like COM9.
Code:
Send_Command.exe \\.\comport
# ENTER
More infos here.
Get a copy of HDD-Raw-Copy-Tool or similar like EMMCRAW. Make a hard copy of your device memory.
Make definitively a TWRP backup.
Now use this zip and flash it via TWRP, note that you should put the zip on a external sd card or use adb sideload.
Next you should got into wipe and select format data, type yes and acknowledge it.
Now you should have more than 11GB as data storage, see pics in the attachment.
When you do the switch you should also switch TWRP to one which do not support sdcard0, cause this partition is gone
Please note: This mod will like not work properly if your using stock rom from zte!
I also made a zip for spliting and recreating the sdcard0 and userdata partitions, after using it, you should also format data like described above. And format your new sdcard0 partition properly as fat. This zip works also, I tested it. Maybe one can improve the script, saving extra formating the partitions.
This zip should provide infos about the partitions of your device...

awesome, thanks a lot for sharing!
makes this device useable much better!

do not know, no device to test with. try the zip, which should show some infos about the partition layout, actually it didn't worked out on my device, like it should...
If it do not work for you: it should copied sgdisk on your device to /tmp/sgdisk. Still in recovery use in the terminal or via adb shell the following commands:
Code:
/tmp/sgdisk -p /dev/block/mmcblk0
/tmp/sgdisk --info=30 /dev/block/mmcblk0
/tmp/sgdisk --info=31 /dev/block/mmcblk0
copy your recovery log to sd and post it here.
ok i do it, now i have 11.41gb storage but i cant save nothing on it, why.... no external storage avaible

Help guys!! After install CM12.1 I've flashed this mod on my EU device but it doesn't work. I've made a full wipe and now I have a nice bricked phone without an OS installed. The phone can't mount E: internal storage and I can't install an other ROM.
Is there any way to make the phone useful again? Thanks!!
Did you flashed recovery for external SD card first? @mir2006

Have you read the whole op?
Which back up do you have?
Why were you doing the full wipe of all? Just need to format data partition, which will erase all settings you have done in cm and also files you habe saved there.
Use an external sd card to install the rom again.
Visit the linked modaco thread, there grab the recovery template zip and also the TWRP for emulated internal storage and place it inside the zip file, like described there.Flash it and reboot.
BTW the mod was not tested on EU Variante devices or none reported back here.cause I gave instructions to get the partition infos for these devices.

HDD Raw Copy Tool won't recognize my phone while in QSHUSB_BULK mode... any hint?
Have your pc mounted several partitions and most have to be Format, which you should not do?? When this is not the case you are not in the right mode.

it's not the case that my phone is bricked, it's fully functional but i wanted to grab a full raw backup before doing the partition mod
when it's powered on and connected to my pc with debugging enabled i get no COM-Port in device Manager.
when it's powered down and i connect it while pressing Vol-UP+Vol-Down i get a COM-Port and i install the QSHUSB_BULK driver i see a COM-Port but no drives show up in device Manager...
what step am i missing?
which methods are there to set the phone in download mode?
thank you!
