MK7 USA 12.53mb update, quota resets @ midnight EST - Samsung Galaxy Gear

My guess is that most people who wanted MK7 already have it via the UK link put up over a month ago or USA firmware link in the past couple of days, both found in the firmware download sticky. Or got it through KIES, like the "maximum number of roll-outs exceeded" message suggests.
If you still don't have it, try hitting "Check for Updates" in gear manager shortly after midnight Eastern Standard Time. I've tried about a dozen different times over the past few days, and I was only able to get through tonight, not too long after midnight.
If you have a limited megabytes bucket or a slow connection, getting the 12.53mb mk7 upgrade patch is an easier choice then needing to download and flash the full firmware file that's over 200 MBs. It took less than 5 minutes to download on the phone, transfer to the watch, reboot and install.
If you are a noob like myself or just know you have limited time to play with your tech during all the holidays craziness, timing your upgrade as close to midnight as you can should remain one of them be the easiest ways to have MK7. (I've got that "roll-out exceeded" message as early as 510am each day) As much as I can't wait to try null as well, for now I like the added notifications and of course the battery life is supposed to be much better as well. When everything slows down after Christmas I plan to install null, and will probably get around to rooting my note and trying the stock international rom to have the BT internet tethering option show up in my tmobile phone. If I get stupid ambitious maybe I'll even try the knoxout custom rom install, but I think I haven't played around long enough with Android not to trip Knox or mess something else up.

I did but I am not brave enough to download it. The last time I took a OTA update, I had to root and sideload my phone again because the update took it off.
Nope not yet but it took about 5 days for me after the last push started.

2.2 Update....
Just bought a Captivate on Sunday (Nov. 7th) and would love to update to 2.2. Reason being is I've read it will support a wifi hot spot, anybody else know anything else about this ?? OR possibly how to reinstall the stripped (by AT&T) ability to tether ??... I know PDAnet will allow you to do this and it seems to work so far, I just would like to keep my UNLIMITED TETHER data plan while I still have the option, in 27 days, I'm going to have to say goodbye for ever or go to another phone.
On a side note.. do any of you think AT&T is trying to eliminite everybody that had UNLIMITED data plans ???.....

If that's the rumor, then it's not a good one. Did you notice that the image had "NOVEMBER, 2011" on it?
There's a thread in the general section.
I succesfully downloaded and installed the update today, after recieving the second text. What it did was add a update to my 2.1 and update me to JH7. In the process it gave me the 3 button fix. Many are hoping it's the precurser to 2.2 but I guess time will tell.
I recieved the txt message last night it done the same thing as trying to manually update it. It downloads the file, then reboots into its update screen but never goes through with the actual update it just sits there with preparing then reboots and tells me no updates were applied

Wait.. so you guys counted to 40 and then turned off your data connection?
Good to hear guys, I waited 35 sec. Badcam3 yes thats when you cut off data. Some people have reported over 60 sec, some 15. Good luck!
No joy on O2 uk.
It worked for my unbrand asia HD7, Its great thanks !!!
it works kinda
Okay so I tried this and it updates successfully (had to wait nearly 60 second)
I was successfully running NoDo and I tested almost everything, but
DNS was not working, I tried over Wifi everything was fine, tried my data connection and got the error message "could not find DNS server.
I'm restoring my phone using zune, and see if that resolves it.
If that does, I'm just going to bite the bullet and unbrand that SOB with the NoDo rom using the method outlined by ansar here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001019
Edit:
I actually I think it's a t-mobile issue, I left my nexus at home so I can't verify. To make matters worse I hard reset my phone, after downgrading my rom version. FUC*!!!
Edit 2:29Pm 03/30/2011
Yes it was a t-mobile thing. Hardreset and downgraded for no reason. Good news as soon as I reconnected to Zune I got NoDo update immediately
-good part is, Zune restore works flawlessly for those who are wondering.

Though I like to think I have pretty good sense of time, I used my watch just to be extra precise.
Hey guys, I wanted to clear some things up for you guys since some seem a bit confused about the timing.
The timing differs for EVERYONE! You need to time how long it says "checking for updates" or whatever. Once you get that time, lets call it "n", you do it again (with cellular data on). Before you search for an update again, I went to the "phone updates" in the settings tab, make sure the "check for updates via cellular data" is checked, you want to stay here while zune looks for your update. Now manually search for an update and at approximately (n-1)seconds you want to uncheck that box. Your phone should show a notification that says there's an update available.
IF IT IS TOO LONG OF A READ, BASICALLY EVERYONES TIMING IS DIFFERENT!
It worked on 3rd attempt due to timing. But it is okay. And it kept itself jailbroken and I can sideload anything just like before.
Great.
PS: This should be pinned, IMHO.

Huge loss of internet connection after ICS update

Hi All,
I'm in the UK and have a US version P7310 wifi only (Samsung refurb bought off ebay)
Up until the ICS update 3 days ago it was in my opinion an awesome piece of kit
however, since the update, my wifi connection (or data transfer) is down at least 70% to what it was on HC 3.2
I am NOT losing the connection to the router, it is the data transfer that is down!
Many times I get the page is not available try later link might be down or if the page does load most of the data many images do not!
Repeated refreshes seem to have no affect! It was super fast before the update!
I have rebooted and still nothing, so I feel it is an issue in the tab rather than any other kit I have at the moment?
I have a wifi laptop and other android device and they perform as before on wifi so it's not the router!
I have also put the tab next to the router and it has made no difference!
I have searched the settings in the tab for anything obvious like load images or choke the bandwidth or whatever
and have turned many things on and off without success! I use the standard browser and the dolphin browser and both
act the same!
The tab has never been routed, it came with HC3.1 then I updated over the air to HC3.2 and then to ICS4.04
I know there is a folder for wifi in the settings and wondered if there was anything I could change to see if it improves anything?
Or has anyone else found their wifi is poor?
The 70% was accurate, not exaggeration, so much so that the tab is unusable for me like this!
I know it is early days for the ICS and the 8.9 world but would REALLY appreciate some advice for things to try please?
Kind regards
PS loved the noob video
Is it possible to go back to 3.2? I I restore factory settings it shall go to 3.1 and I assume 4.04? Would it go to 3.2 first?
Hmm...
Well, the support thread for the official ICS update has no mention of such issues.
Doing a factory reset will only reset the current ICS 4.0.4 to its default settings and will not revert the tablet to Honeycomb 3.1 or 3.2.
To downgrade, you should attempt through Kies, though I am not sure it offers the feature.
What I am certain of is that you can downgrade to 3.2 fairly easily by manually flashing a 3.2 firmware release.
You can download an official Honeycomb 3.2 United Kingdom release for the P7310 HERE
If you have no idea how to flash it through ODIN, please download this .zip archive that holds all the necessary tools. Then refer to THIS thread (where the archive came from) and read the short instructions on using ODIN in the How-to Section, last topic named "Using ODIN 1.85".
If you proceed to downgrade, consider to load the provided .pit file in ODIN 1.85's folder and checking "Repartition" in the program. Clicking Start with the .pit file loaded will wipe all data from your device, including everything that resides on the SD card.
After successfully downgrading to Honeycomb 3.2, you can attempt the ICS upgrade once again, but make sure to execute a factory reset from within Honeycomb's settings (or through recovery mode) on your device, before doing the update.
If the Wi-Fi issues continue within ICS, I am afraid I am short of knowledge to help track down the issue.
Good luck.
Solution?
Hi.
Maybe this will work for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846766
strange
I doubt this is related to the 5ghz issue (that has different symptoms = not being able to connect).
Did you go to ICS using Odin, Kies or OTA?
Have you tried flashing the Stock ICS through Odin?
Have you tried doing a full data wipe? (reset to Stock)?
If you need to keep your app data, then save it with something like Titanium Backup (or make a Nandroid backup so you can return to current state, after experimenting)
What is your router? anything "exotic" about your WLAN settings?

Not different symptoms. Equal symptoms. nakedninja42 was referring to the 5GHz band in his post,

but did not say that he couldn't connect at all. And thus it makes sense to try it. Especially since Bananajet writes
that he doesn't lose connection - only speed (transfer).
Connection
Gentlemen,
thank you for your concise replies! To answer the points I think worth noting!
I downloaded OTA using the tabs own system (the 300mb file) it updated ok!
I did notice that I had to download 3 times as each previous one did fully download but didnt do anything!
On these downloads, I did not have the charger plugged in but had approximately 75+% of battery!
When I did do it the third time with charger plugged in, it updated as you would expect!
Strangely the tab has improved today and I would say 95% of clicks to a website or a refresh have performed as usual!
However (using dolphin browser) with one site open and a new tab for another, it would again not load all the images on the second page
but did NOT give me the page down link like the day before!
I would say it was a bad day for my wifi BUT the other bits of kit I use ALL performed as usual when the tab didnt
so I am still unsure of the problem? I did consider that the other bits of kit (nokia phone, Android Phone and a Laptop)
although NOT actively connecting to anything to download except being on whatsapp might be bullying the tab out
but I tried turning them off and it didnt change anything!
So I think I shall watch what happens and report back and see if anyone else mentions poor transfers?
By this I mean I REMAIN connected to the router and im NOT sure of the actual transfer rates BUT its like
the connection stops half way when the page loads (link down or photos half loaded) and no amount of refresh makes them reload
until such a time (usually 5 mins) that it does! This then does NOT start working normally (fast loading) but usually repeats itself
and doesnt load again! I do feel that any sites with mainly text and mininal graphics did load ok giving the impression
of a burst of power and then giving up hallf way if there was too much to load (my words, not one from a tech manual haha)
So just to say, the tab is working much better but not perfect! Shall report again when have more hours online!
Thank you again for your help
Kind regards
Bananajet
Update
Gentlemen (and any ladies)
after a few weeks using ICS 4 here are my findings! If anyone can help I would be very grateful as right now, the frustration doesnt compare!
I also realise my original title was slightly misleading, please note I NEVER lose connection to the router, it is the data that seems to
be choked! Almost like the tab only allows a bit through at a time and if there is a load to come through (images or streaming television), it chokes it and very little gets through? Interesting though I dont seem to have any issues wastching youtube much!
To recap, p7310 8.9 wifi version which was a refurb from the US direct from Samsung! Im in the UK! Originally came with HC3.1
I downloaded 3.2 straight away and have done nothing to this machine to alter what came out of the box!
I was very very happy with it and 3.2! Of course, as everyone else, was excited to get ICS 4.04
Downloaded ICS OTA with the update on the tab
I have noticed nothing for my type of usage much difference in ICS apart from possibly better battery but battery was ok anyway!
Back to my problem!
Web pages which contain any amount of thumbnails which might change (alter their positon on the page) when requested as a new page or refreshed very rarely load all of the images! It might load about 5-10% of them when the problem exists which is about 75% of the time! Also streaming live television is very poor to connect although when connected, it works perfectly!
On 3.2 even in my garden I could load web pages that were graphic intensive (nothing extreme, just were there might be mulitple thumbnails etc)
they would load as quick as you would want, reloads, new pages, browsing etc all worked perfectly and streaming television too!
I use the stock browser and one called dolphin
On ICS I would say about 75% of the time, any pages as mentioned above do not load all of the images, only probably about 10% of the images would load, the reast would have place marks showing where the other images should go! It would then stop! Any amount of recycle does not improve it until such time (can be a minute, can be 5 minutes)! The other 25% it works basically as it should, quite fast and normal!
One other issue is IF it is working correctly and I try and load a new tab or page in the background then the new page is highly unlikey to load correctly with any images it might want to display! Like "You cant have both mate" haha
On 3.2 any streaming video or television was perfect, fast and never failed! On ICS it has a 80% failure first time and requires usually 3-4 recyles to 'hook it'! Once it is in, it stays in and works well! If I try and change channel or view something else, it reverts to failure again!
I have changed no settings on router, changed nothing about anything! All other items in the house that might use wifi still perform as before!
The change in the quality happend immediately after ICS download.
This issue has left what was a fantastic bit of kit very frustrating to use and almost unusable!
I would really like to go back to 3.2 if I can but am unsure how easy this is although I do understand that was mentioned in an earlier post
I cannot try the 5ghz method as it is not rooted and to be honest, I am in the UK and that issue is regarding the US networks! My ccode says GB and not ALL btw.
To summarise, it seems that any new or data that requires a lot of refreshing rather than drawing from a cache doesnt want to load?
Any advice would be very helpful,
thank you all again.
Bananajet
Perhaps to do with the wifi channel used by router? Try to use channel 1 (or 6 or 11, avoid higher)
Try an app that gives WiFi diagnostics, like WiFi Analyzer.
Alternatively, reflash any other stock HC or ICS Rom through Odin... You might lose data (downloaded apps, settings, ...) along the way though (not sure, depends on exact approach, etc)
Have you try to test the speed connection wit your tab? I try whit speedtest.net in that site you can find the version for mobile, download it and try, just to see if it is a problem related whit your browser or with you wifi drivers
hope it could help
PS. you can find the app in play store too (same name)

[Q] Wi-Fi connection "completely dead" - Not connecting to ANY network at all !

[Q] Wi-Fi connection "completely dead" - Not connecting to ANY network at all !
I have ATT SM-N900A.
Rooted via Kingo root since day one (back in mid December). Never had any issues.
Everything worked just fine - then I lose W-Fi connectivity 'literally' overnight last week.
I am still running 4.3. There were no software updates or new apps installed when this happened.
In fact, I was on 7 days cruise in the middle of the Caribbean, (data roaming turned off because
the ship was getting expensive 4G service) - when my Wifi abilities completely died. No changes
to the phone that I know of that could have caused this.
I remember checking WiFi on TUE night and the "Royal Caribbean' wifi was available in my stateroom.
At $30 per hour or $60 per day I decided to wait until we get ashore the next day so I could
connect to WiFi in a bar or cafe.
The next morning on WED - once off the ship I tried to turn the WiFi on - no luck. Restarted, shut it off,
took the battery out for a few minutes - still no WiFi the phone does not see and cannot connect
to ANY NETWORKS - None !
Came home from the cruise on Sunday - backed everything up - then performed factory reset
fully expecting to resolve the issue. NOPE Still no Wifi of any kind, cannot see any networks at
all - the wifi icon is never bright green like other active icons - it's only dimmed green as its trying to find
networks, then just goes gray (off)
At this point I am thinking its a hardware issue (dead wifi modem?) - EVERYTHING else on the
phone works just fine (the mini SD card is not corrupted - I also tested the phone without the SD card in the
phone as I found one person who had the same problem and the SD card was the culprit)
Talked to ATT customer service tonight. They suggested I go to their local ATT repair facility or Best Buy
Samsung kiosk to get the 4.4 ATT update and then do another factory reset - to see if that fixes the problem.
If it does not - then they would replace the phone under warranty..
I have some questions:
- 1) any suggestion to fix this (if the 4.4 update does not help....or before I even go to get the 4.4)
- 2) if I unroot via Kingo - will they know that my phone was rooted (and potentially deny the replacement
under warranty which they are now offering if the problem persist). I think that Kingo can unroot just fine, but
does it reset the counter?
Any advice or suggestions how to fix this issue with WIFI or how to present a phone for replacement to ATT that
will qualify - will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
There's no "rooting counter". There used to be a ROM Flash counter, but since you can't flash ROMs anyway ... (Safestrap isn't glashing ROMs.)
I'd prefer to not get 4.4, but you can probably restore to MJ5 using the thread here. And I do suspect it's a sudden hardware failure. Software doesn't suddenly break (at least, after 40 years of writing it, that's been my experience). Hardware breaks all the time.
Unrooting via Kingo shouldn't leave anything they'll find. And their tool (in the store) will flash 4.4.2 over 4.3 - but that means no root and, for now, no slots in Safestrap. And if they replace the phone it's probably going to be 4.4.2. (If you go to an AT&T device support center for the replacement, ask really nicely whether they have any refurbs that are still on 4.3 [if that's what you prefer - I have my updater frozen until we get flash and Safestrap on 4.4.2].)
Thank you very much for your reply.
I should add that I actually just unrooted via Kingo a few minutes ago.
the "CUSTOM" script with the big lock is now gone from the screen when booting up
and under About Device > Status > Device Status it now reads "Official" instead of "Custom".
How do I check to see if knox counter is tripped ? From what you are saying it looks like I am all set.
Is there anything else I need to do to make sure that they cannot tell that the phone was rooted?
Ultimately, I would still prefer to fix the wifi issue without replacing the phone.
...same as you however - I think that updating to 4.4 wil not resolve anything as i think it is
hardware problem as well.
Thanks for the tip about asking for 4.3 replacement !
PS:
what do you mean by:
"I'd prefer to not get 4.4, but you can probably restore to MJ5 "
What is MJ5, and what is slots in Safestrap ?
Thank you !!
I had a similar issue on my Xperia TL and so I thought I would wipe the OS and reinstall it... HARD BRICK'd the phone on a STOCK install via Flashtool. It wasnt like the phone was rooted either.
Turns out it was indeed a physical modem issue. It took me three days to unbrick the phone... I went through torment to get it unbricked. After it was unbricked... I used it for a few days... no good signal at all. Dang wifi and 4G bounced all over the place. I could buy another modem and replace it. AND then I could use the phone again. I said F it ... got a note 3.
On a serious note, you have a hardware prob bro... futz with it if you like... you will make it really non-functional... pull the warranty and get it fixed.

Reboot to recovery. (From power off, Volume+/Home/Power.) But I've never heard of Kingo tripping Knox.

It depends on how thoroughly they check. If they look for deleted files they'll probably find something, but they'll most likely flash 4.4.2 first, and that wipes out any signs of the rooting. (The people at the stores aren't engineers or system programmers, it doesn't work, the book says to flash a new ROM, they do it. It still doesn't work, they replace the phone.)

MJ5 is th version of firmware we had before the NB4 update, which is probably what you're on now.
Safestrap is the only way to change ROMs in the Note 3. The bootloader is locked, so you can't just flash a ROM. Safestrap intercepts the boot process and runs the ROM you have in it as the "Current" one. Version 3.71, for 4.3, allows you to have the original ROM plus 4 others in "slots" you set up. So if, for instance, you want to play around with your setup, but be able to get back to what you llike if you mess up, you can back up the current ROM, restore it to a slot and mess around with the one in the slot. Every time you make a change you like, back up again. Make a change you don't like and restore the backup.
Or keep a few ROMS on hand. Maybe one that runs really fast but eats battery like crazy. Another one that's not that fast but you can get almost forever on the battery. Reboot into whichever one you need.
Go to 4.4.2 and Safestrap has, the last time I looked in the thread, only 1 slot. And you can't root 4.4.2 yet. Which is why my wife - who considers it a phone with a few games and a calendar, allowed the update she got the other day, while I have my update app frozen. (Not that it would work with a rooted ROM not in the stock slot, but why ask for problems?)
Thanks for the explanation of everything.
I was actually on NB4 already.
Called the local repair ATT center - they do not have any NB3 phones - all replacements are shipped from TX.
To my surprise they did not have the latest 4.4.2 flash and they suggested I go to Best buy !!!! (Unreal !
Went to Best Buy and a fellow in Samsung kiosk had the ATT version of 4.4.2.
We updated the OS, did a factory reset afterwards - the WiFi modem is DEAD as suspected.
Got back to the office, called ATT customer service. They had me download an app and connected to
my phone remotely so they trouble-shoot it. The tech confirmed that the wifi modem is faulty and they
are sending me a replacement phone.
I tried to request 4.3 and he said that it could be 4.3 or 4.4 (depending how long it has been sitting on the
shelf in their warehouse - but the selection is random and there is no way to request a specific OS version.
Good news is that I do not have to be without a phone and will simply return my old phone in the same box.
At least you'll get wifi. Keep your fingers crossed that you get an "old phone". Or that the work on SS doesn't take too long.
Funny enough, I had almost the same thing happen. Went on vacation overseas and turned everything off. Used Wifi sporadically and when I returned home, I had no wifi. Warranty exchange gave me a replacement phone and shortly after that it automatically upgraded to 4.4.2. I actually started a thread but no one had had the same issue as me. Good luck with your new phone.
Great news !
My replacement phone arrived yesterday and to my pleasant surprise it is 4.3.
Its actually MJ5 (the original?) baseband - not NB4.
Kernel is from Thu Oct. 17th 2013.
I guess I can just leave it 'as is' correct?
In a meanwhile that baby got rooted on Kingo immediately and the "AT&T update app"
was frozen with Titanium backup really quickly
Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions.

In Canada - Bought AT&T model online - Unable to update

Hello everyone,
Just go a LG-W280A online (Nougat, 7.1.1, NQF43E) and trying to get it to update to Oreo, but no luck so far.
The watch does download the update, but when it comes to install it, it fails verification it seems. I've been through the process at least 5 times already, with a factory reset of the watch in the middle.
Anybody else in Canada have this problem? Is Oreo worth it? If it breaks Google Pay, no, and it's the main reason I bought the watch.
Any help or tips would be appreciated.
Well, it seems patience is the key. I left my phone and my watch charging one beside the other for a few hours. I went to check if an update was available, and was greeted with the "Reboot to install?" prompt.
It took 4-5 times.
I'd say if you come across the same problem, just keep at it. It will work.

I'm from italy...same problem...4 time i download the update (780 MB transferred from bluetooth to watch everey time...oh my god! ), every time the update doesn't pass the verification.
i try this night with a vpn centered in USA.
Hello again,
@stefal639 I assume that it will do the same as mine. Just keep at it, the update will work eventually.
I can confirm that Google Pay in Canada still works after the Oreo update (Wear OS 1.2, 8.0.0, OWDL.180126.012).
I solve shutting off the Bluetooth and I use the direct download from server to watch by wifi.
All ok
