Help a brother out
When the Z1 first launched, I was able to root the device.
I'm ignorant enough to not know if I had unlocked the bootloader.
General forum research tells me that if I'm not sure if I unlocked the bootloader, it means I didn't unlock the bootloader.
I updated my Z1 (C9606) to 14.1.G.2.257 Build.
I'm still running Android 4.2.2
Is there a way to root device without unlocking?
If so, could someone point towards the thread I need to follow?
thanks!

Hello,
flash back to .534 with flashtool then root and custom recovery your device and put a custom pre rootet rom on.I think that is the only solution also the same point as the threat starter asks for you only can use pre rootet roms for now.
best regards and wishes,
Nico

What if rolled back to .534, custom recovered, rooted and then tried to flash .290 (JB 4.3)?
Has anyone tried this?
Is there any way of getting stock 4.3 rooted?

So I found this post: http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/04/01/debrand-your-xperia-z-tutorial/ look very nice and I would like to try it out. Then I found this ROM for my own country: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2200945
Then I read the thread and saw people saying it would be easy to root it also without having a custom ROM. So i went to the recommenden post for it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
Now I have one question: Does this unlock your bootloader? I want to be sure it doesnt! And when I update my phone again after I rooted it do I need to root again? (with rooting there doesn't come another rom over it in this case, right?)
Thank you for your time!
BTW I have an Sony Xperia Z C6603 branded by T-Mobile
Flashing stock firmwares or custom rom doesn't change bootloader status.
After updating you have to root again.

Ok, thx. So when I use the root guide I actually flash my rom again? Or how does it work?
Sorry but i didn't understand what you mean?
Rooting guide is to root your phone so you can access system files,it's not like changing roms or flashing.

Hey guys, i just rooted my phone and was looking forward to putting the new cyanogenmod rom on my phone, until i found out att has to ruin everything and wont let the bootloader be unlocked. I was looking around for a workaround and some places said it might be possible to do it in recovery mode with CWM..can anyone tell me if this is possible? Is it even possible to do with a locked bootloader? If anyone knows how to do this for the Xperia TL (lt30at) please let me know! Step by step would be great since im new to this. Thanks!!
No its not possible for now.

Unless you have a unlocked bootloader, you cant. Flash an Xperia T firmware to remove all that att bloatware
and If we ever had are bootloader unlocked, we can just flash CM10.1 and it will work.
Man everyone is so nice on here. But in response to that until AT&T allows it nothing that anyone can do about the bootloader. At least it's rooted and you can remove all the crap that was preloaded with the phone. With a few other extra perks of having a rooted phone, the stock OS isn't really all that bad.....

If I had a "Not For Sale" AT&T branded Sony Xperia TL and its bootloader is unlocked. Will this help anybody? I wonder how I could flash CM10.1 on it then.I have CWM 6.0.3.0 installed on it but technically that CWM is for 'locked bootloaders' even though my bootloader isn't locked.
If the boot loader is unlocked just flash the cm10 . Zip in recovery

This is my understanding too. Bear in mind that as soon as official updates are released a developer here will make it available on xda. This means you often get updates before you would normally (because they are rolled out at different times depending on carrier and region).

Odexed roms work faster than deodexed. If you don't plan to modify your rom don't deodex it. Though there are many mods for odexed roms too.

Hi guys! thanks for your time on reading this.
I have an Sony Xperia Z1 C6902 with 14.1.G.2.257 firmware. I bought it 2 weeks ago on USA (NY).
I saw that I got to downgrade and root, and then flash a new pre-rooted 2.257 firmware. I tried a lot of roots toolkit but obviously non of it works.
I´m a little scared about to flash a tft to downgrade an lose signal or something and can't go back to my actual firmware (because of no root, no rom backup )
SO, its better wait for a root toolkit for my actual version or try to downgrade?
thanks again for the time! hope you have a nice day guys

If you really need root then I say go for it. Just downgrade to .534 with flashtool, root it with root many android, then upgrade to .257 with OTA
You can always make your own FTF file yourself so you can flash it back. There is no danger in flashing them and you don't need root.

NO YOU WILL NOT
Read any of the several guides in the general section about how to achieve root on 257 FW
Not trying to thread-jack, but I was under that impression after reading guides saying you will need to re-root after flashing FW OTA 257.
Sorry for the ignorance....

Then you read them wrong, they all say that if you downgrade to 534, root then upgrade OTA you will keep root

Thanks for your quick reply!.
Sounds a little complicated but I will searchfor how to make my own ftf.
My problems is find a correct image to flash with flash tool. I'm a little scared to flashe the wrong one. I also didn't found how to make backup of my actual FTF without root, but again, I will search for it.
I want root first for install adaway, I used my old one x with it and now I cant stand for the ads... And I need 2 whatsapp ( one for work and one personal). Just need root for that.
thanks again. hope you have a good day

For some reason it asks me to let it do a full restore, i have backed up so i did wat i think it meant (dont speak chinese)
then after that instead of a tick it shows a cross and it obviously hasnt rooted the device?
What am i doing wrong?!
Thanks

You didn't do anything wrong, but currently Android 4.3 cant be rooted. if you want root, you have to flash 257 then 534 then root and OTA update to 257. and if you get OTA to the 290 android 4.3 you might keep root.
Do you know when root will be available for 4.3?
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You can root, but you need to flash custom boot.img first. Just follow steps on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2573921

One of the 1st rules in XDA: Don't ask for ETAs
You must follow the threads and see, if one dev find a solution to root locked bootloader for 4.3. But take a look in the Xperia Z1 Android Development section. Or this thread, there a lot of hints and howtos for root.
Sorry I'm new! thanks for the tip!!
