Hi,
I'd like to install CM to my tab. I've read its quite complicated, and you can brick your device quite fast. Could anyone provide a detailed and relatively safe solution to upgrade from 2.2(!)?
Do I need to root first, and install cwm?
Thanks a lot!
Theoretically you don't need root, only need cwm.
But for 2.2, many has locked bootloader that prevents flashing non samsung signed stuff.
So you need to root to then check the bootloader if it is locked. If locked, then apply a patch. That is why root is needed.

Hi,
Here is what I did:
I was on Froyo too (P1000BVJJ2, Orange France).
I rooted the Tab with z4root with no problem
Then checked if bootlooder was locked with SGT-Bootloader-Patch-v1.00.apk (from Chainfire): it was unlocked
Then flashed Overcome 4.1 (follow the guide)
Then flashed AOKP SGT7 JB-MR1 (from Stimpz0r)
Then flashed CM11 (from terenceng)
No problem at all. You can follow my steps, but don't blame me if it does not work for you !

I'm stuck at the "root with z4root" problem. The app is freezing and not doing anything sadly. Tried to look up a solution here, on xda forums, but the last thread about z4root I found was from 2011 and its closed now.
Any other idea how to deal with 2.2?

I will guide you..just follow it without fear.
Search and Download "CF-Root-TAB7_XX_OXA_JQ1-v3.3-CWM3RFS" using Google.
Search and Download Odin v1.7 using Google.
Switch OFF your Tab and switch it ON while holding Volume down button. It gets into Download mode.
Open the Odin application on PC and Now connect the tab to the PC. The Comment 'Added' appears on Odin. If not try other USB ports and I hope you have installed the PC~ADB drivers.
On the PDA section of Odin browse and include the 'CF-Root-TAB7_XX_OXA_JQ1-v3.3-CWM3RFS' file, do not alter anything.
Click Start, let it do it business.I will Reset automatically.
Now you have a CWM and a Rooted P1000 Tab. Play well

First of all, I was not sure if this should be under Android Development (since it has do with rooting) or Q&A (since it is a question about rooting) so I apologize if this is the wrong forum (I did search Q&A without much success). If this is the wrong forum, please feel free to move it.
The scenario:
My friend and I both bought the Samsung Note at the Samsung/Bose store on Tottenham Court Road in London (UK) the last week of 2011 December.
I rooted mine on the stock ROM (see attached image for 2.3.5); my friend did the software update (see attached image for 2.3.6 taken with a Blackberry since my friend was too lazy to download a screenshot app).
My question is, am I able to root the "software update" either use the exploit (which I used to root the stock 2.3.5) or via other method?
I have noticed in other threads that depending on the update to 2.3.6, rooting either can be done or not (so I am confused on whether that is dependent on the country of origin since many people go theirs from Germany).
Check this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784
Also, you don't need to install an screenshot app, just use the SPen, or swipe your palm from left to right for a screen shot.
I was from KJ4, which was updated to KK5, which I was able to root using the guide from the link above. You need to know what Kernel/Firmware you have to know if it can be rooted.
Edit: I just saw your attachment, it's basically same as mine; original firmware is KJ4 OTA update to KK5. Yes you can root it using the zergrush method (link).

That is the link I rooted with originally (on my Note); reading the instructions, I would proceed as if I am *note* rooted (since I assume the "software update" to 2.3.6 removes the root on 2.3.5) outlined in Post #2 instruction 1.2 except there is not a file for KK5 (which I assume is what I would use since that is what the upgrade shows it then to be).
Otherwise, I am confused as what to use.
Thanks for your input and help.

Use mobileodin and flash the rooted kernel (from link) which corresponds to your kernel. Search through the forums how to use mobileodin.

If I understand you correctly, I can apply the 2.3.6 update OTA which breaks the 2.3.5. root, then install Mobile Odin Lite and the corresponding flashkernel to reestablish the root on 2.3.6?

no, you can,t apply OTA or you will lose root, just download to your sd card and flash the firmware with mobile odin.
And no this does not go here go search a tutorial, this is just a question and no development at all.
Not development
Thread has been moved to the appropriate subforum.
I already stated that I realized it would lose root.
Before you flame someone, read the post first. Try being a little more helpful and little less know-it-all wannabe.

Wondering where the OTA stores the file when downloaded as I downloaded it and told the system to install later (and remind in 7 days). I had assumed a 15mb+ file would not be that hard to find (assuming it was one large file). I had also assumed it would be on the internal SD card as well.
Added: I am using ES File Explorer 1.6.1.0 with details and hidden files shown.
A little help with either the file name or location of said file(s) is appreciated. If I happened to find it between crises, I will post my findings here.
Thanks!
OTA downloads are stored where when downloaded OTA?

Zup,
I rooted a while ago, and since i'm running Ubuntu i haven't managed to get CWM yet, so i noticed that i can use Odin Mobile Pro to do it so i installed it and downloaded the correct kernel. I opened OMP and browsed to find the kernel on the internal memory but i can't choose it (it's a .RAR-file), so i extract it to see what's hidden inside. According to Odin i can flash "zImage" so i do it. Big big mistake.
The phone won't boot now, and the only thing i get is the "Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000.
What to do?
Thanks in advance
I can enter Download mode, and that's it. Some help here please?

Thanks.
Where can i find a stock ROM? And do i need ADB installed or is it OK with the drivers from Kies? I'm asking since i'm using Ubuntu so i'll have to use my brothers PC, so i can't install a freaking SDK.
Got a stock ROM now, downloaded the ADB files and Odin, so i'll see if that works..
You should just try to read a little more
Kies drivers should be fine. Go to the development forum and you will find stock roms thread.

Still downloading the ROM.. WHY in the sweet hell haven't anybody made a torrent or uploaded it to another place? 2 hours to download 550MB on a 20 Mbps connection is tragic..
Update: OK, i'm up and running again! Odin worked like a dream without any problems Thank you so much Indie!

you said downloading LA4.
Just make clear, LA4 wont Root directly, n looking to sequence, you are going to flash it with PC Odin. If i m correct
Just Downgrade to old version, get it Rooted, then update to LA4

Yeah, i noticed this when i had downloaded 300MB of LA4, so i didn't bother to stop it and select a rootable ROM I just wanted to get my Note working again. But i'm already missing root like crazy, so i think i'm gonna downgrade and root it again very soon.
Edit: Wait a minute.. I was rooted, i messed the phone up, flashed LA4, booted up the phone, nothing got wiped but i lost root.
ya it is nonwipe version so even with PC Odin, you won't lose anything BUT just ROOT
Aha!
But if i choose to flash another ROM with PC Odin, will i get the triangle at boot? Do i only get the triangle when i flash unofficial ROMs like CM9?
I'm a little unclear on these parts.

No it won't give you triangle if you flash any stock ROM. It gives only when you flash custom(yes like rocket/CM9)

I have the same problem right now. I'm trying to recover this problem
Hi,
I am trying to figure out whether my Samsung Note N7000 is rooted or not.
I thought I have rooted it as there is a superuser app on the phone. But when I run a root checker app it tells me my phone is not rooted, I tried running rooted apps but not able to so I guess the phone is not rooted.
So I tried rooting my phone again using Superoneclick 2.3.1.0 but the program tells me my phone has ALREADY BEEN ROOTED and whether I want to proceed or not. I select to proceed but Superoneclick hangs at "Shell rooting device... - Step #7" "WaitForDevice"
Both the USB debugging and unknown sources boxes are ticked, SD card unmounted.
Can anyone help ?
I'm also not sure if your phone rooted or not..
dis u enable superuser ?

Reboot into your boot loader, it should tell you there whether it's unlocked or not.

Thanks for the suggestion, although my phone is not locked. I live in HK and bought it without contract...
search for SuperSU 1.10 chainfire
download the files and flash it using stock recovery.
or download phil safe kernel which include superuser
Hey guys, little bit of a problem, hope you have some ideas.
Basically, My phone has decided it wont be charging anymore, the battery charges fine in my wifes N7000, used 3/4 different charges, all work fine with hers, none which work with mine, looking inside the charging port, it appears to a little burned, theres an area which is quite black inside the port.
So, the phone is rooted and running a lightweight LSZ leak, its not returnable to samsung (and likely, my insurer) in this condition, problem is, if the phone isnt connect via USB, I wont be able to flash an official firmware via ODIN to remove the rootage.
Is it possible for me to perhaps flash an older firmware through CMW and then try and update OTA to remove root, or, am i destined to charge my battery from my missus' phone from now on?
Many thanks!

Edit: also read thoroughly as you already have the link there are few things you would require to install for the lite version.
Under default settings of mobile odin, it will remove root. But before you go about uprooting, make sure your counter is set to 0. If no then you will need to use triangle away app and it will need root access.

It is an apk file.
I think for the lite version you will need to download the odin flash kernel first. Just follow the instructions. The paid version automatically downloads it.
Thanks again guys, one final question then, if you was returning your note to the Samsung centre would you use the kies GB, ICS or JB official ROM? Considering making it the JB, what do you think?

you can take it to service center with JB or any of 2 older versions, does not matter.

Hi all,
I have problem with rooting of my moto.
I had finally found solution to bring recovery into phone by this thread (any other didnt work)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166646
Then I try zip from mattlgroff thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2123369,
in recovery is writen that flashing is complete, but after reboot there isnt any superuser application in drawer so it seems that phone isnt rooted.
I have XT890 JB, retail.en.EU, bootloader unlocked
Do you know where can be problem, or what Iam doing wrong?
Thanks in advance
Hmm, dunno. Maybe reinstall the zip a second time? Otherwise, u can always use a pre rooted ROM from the development section
