[Q] GalaxyNote1 (no root) stopped mounting internal USB card - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
I am a new android user. I have Galaxy Note 1 and it is not rooted.
Here're the specs of my phone:
Model GT-N7000
Android v4.1.2
Kernel v 3.0.31-906407
[email protected] #3
It has a 16 GB external SD card + default internal USB storage. It was working fine till a few hours back. Then Gallery stopped opening and Camera wouldn't start either. There is nothing shown in MyFiles folder. I have checked using ES File Explorer as well and no data is shown in the directories.
External SD card is working fine. But Internal USB card does not get mounted. There is > 500 mb in internal memory. I've moved most of the apps to SD card and removed unnecessary ones.
Here's the break up of 'Storage':
Device memory
Total Space - 1.97 GB
Applications - 749MB
Available space - 560MB
USB storage
Applications - 158MB
SD card
Total space - 14.83 GB
Available space - 2.18 GB
I have cleared Gallery app - cache, rebooted but it doesn't change.
Also, I noticed that when I am trying to back up messages, it waits for external storage card. The card is inserted and mounted but the phone has stopped seeing it as active. I can mount the external SD card on my notebook though.
Can anyone please help. I am starting to get worried

If u didn't root and u didn't drop/smash your phone, it would be a software issue. You'll have to flash stock ROM via ODIN. If u did drop your phone, it could be a hardware issue and you'll have to bring it to a Samsung Service Centre.
P.S. try taking out your external sd-card, reboot and check if the problem persists.
Merry Christmas!
Smack that thanks button If I helped!
Always make a nandroid backup before trying anything risky.

[Q] Confused About Storage - Can you help?

I may be a bit thick but am a little confused about how the storage is shown on the NOTE
If I look in setting storage it says .......
Total storage 14,28 GB
Available space 10.34 GB
(where is this phone or card?)
Then.....
USB Storage
total 11.07 GB
Available 8.73 GB
(I have nothing in the USB port as far as I know - just a 16G SD card in)
Then.....
System Storage 1.59 GB
(assume this is on the phone itself?)
Also when I link the phone to the computer it only shows .... a phone .... a SD Card and that is all?
While I am on this linking to the computer cant find an option to "Unmount" the phone either on the computer or the phone - feel a bit worried just pulling the plug out? memory sticks like you to unmount them or you may lose data????? Dont want to wipe the phone?
If anyone, more expert than me, can help explain some of there things I would be grateful
Hope there is someone out there that understands storage on the NOTE
Thanks
Pete

USB storage is the internal storage space AKA 16gb but 2gb for system storage and 1for OS so you have 11gb. your micro sd should be the 14gb davon 10gb are free. on connect with a PC you should see a N7000 under devices (C:/, D:/) in it should have Card(micro SD) and Phone(internal storage).
just unplug the cable. If something happens then blame Zeus and the Olymp God's. ;-)

Connection to a pc is manual on Note. Unplug usb cable. Menu -> settings -> wireless -> usb. Tap connect with pc (or whatever the only choice is) then plug in usb cable. Next touch connect @ green android and then ok (if it pops up). Disconnect by tapping disconnect under orange android.

So let me get this staight
USB is not Universal Serial Bus -- but internal memory?
Then from the USB comes the 2G for the system and 1G for android?
So where has the 16G Micro-SD memory card on this list (paid good money for that!!! ) - can see it if I link the phone to computer but not on this list?
Is that what it calls total storage or does it TOTAL everything?
Thought android was easier than Microsoft's rubbish operating systems ??

Yes USB is your internal flash storage that comes with the Note, 2GB from them assigned to apps only, some for system files and the rest is for you..
The SD card I believe is what is showing as 14GB under total storage, and total here refers to total external sd card only not every storage you have
Total storage 14,28 GB
Available space 10.34 GB
This is the external microSD card you put in. If you use Myfiles you see this in external_SD folder.
USB Storage
total 11.07 GB
Available 8.73 GB
This is part of the 16GB storage comes with the phone. Your internal sd card. If you use a program like ES explore you see it in sdcard folder.
System Storage 1.59 GB
This is part of the 16GB storage comes with the phone. Your download apk is in this storage unless you move it to the internal SD using Manage Applications program come with the Notes. Not all program can be move to internal sd card.

[Q] USB storage?

Hey, what's up? I bought my new Galaxy Note yesterday, and there are some things I don't understand. One of the first apps I installed was App2SD. The Note didn't came with an SD (today I bought one), but something appeared as SD Card. When in I entered to the app, I saw something very interesting. It said that the System storage was 2GB (??!?) and the SD (it didn't had any SD) was 11GB. Today I installed the SD (real) and the app still the SD was 11GB!!! I downloaded MI file explorer, to see better the storage and install some apps I moved to the SD, and when I entered to SD tab, there were folders of Camera, Downloads.. but I couldn't find any of my apps. Then I find the folder "external_sd" and I opened it. Yes, all the apks I moved to the SD were there. So, I thought , lets see the storage tab in Task manager menu. There appeared 3 things: the SD card (8gb), the system storage (2gb) and the USB storage (11gb). So, I realized that all downloads and photos were saving in the USB storage (that is part of the System storage I think). I could change where does the photos save, but no the downloads and apps. They are still saving in that USB storage. And something it was very strange: when I move to SD some apps (Zen Bound 2, 200MB) it appears in the SD but really small (200MB to 20MB) So, the questions are:
1. Can I change that the apps don't install in that USB storage?
2. Can I turn off that USB storage?
3. Why when I enter in Settings and I move an app to the SD, in app2sd appears like it was moved to the USB storage? Or it moved to the real SD?
4. Why the size of the apps change?
Thanks really

Ok, that was a lot to read Ok, as far as Galaxy Note's Memory management is considered, the partition is as:
A. 2GB (1.97GB Precisely) : Acts as ROM
B. 11GB (11.07GB Precisely) : Acts as Internal SD Card
C. X GB (the memory card which you insert) : Acts as External SD Card
So, In A there are built in apps which comes with the ROM you flash.
In B There are apps which you install. The install Location is defined to be in B in your phone by default.
In C You can move the apps using some app such as App2SD or Android Assistant (which I prefer)
If you are concerned with big apps clogging your memory, read ahead:
You can allow your application to install on the device's external storage.
Some types of applications should not allow installation on the external storage.
Installing on the external storage is ideal for large applications that are not tightly integrated with the system (most commonly, games).
If you want to know how to do it, then reply back or PM me. I shall post here.
Hope this helps to clear some basic idea about memory.

[Q] 2 x internal / 1x external storage (partition)

Hallo,
For a moth or so my Note runs on a Custom JB ROM.
and today i wanted to install the new TomTom app.
i requires me to download a additional 3.1 GB
but i says that theirs not enough memory available.
that's strange, i just put in a brand new 16gb SD card.
so i checked the storage info.
Internal 1,9GB
internal(second??) 11GB
SD-card 15GB
on default in installs apps on the fist Internal memory,
so if transferred i to SD.
BUT in transferred it to the Second internal memory instead of the SD-card.
so i checked the form and found out that i can change a file to mount de SD as internal,
but than i have 11GB of lost space on my phone,
is there a way to partition(combine/merge) the first en second Internal memory??
no
internal 1 is system
internal 2 is internal sd
and this is the same on GB/ICS too?? so should work..

[Q] Phone's internal storage shows also the used space on my memory card

Hi!
Today I flashed my Note from the leak JB to German ICS 4.0.4 and I did a factory reset before the downgrade. I know there's been some issues with some eMMC bugs but I decided to do it anyways. Now for some reason when I go to settings -> Storage it shows that there are 3,50gb of some miscellaneous files even after I format the internal memory. I noticed that when I remove my SD card my phone shows that the phone's internal memory is empty but when the SD card is installed the files on the SD card show up also on my phone's internal memory. What could cause it?

[Q] How to move Apps/Games from USB Storage to SD Card

Hey XDA members, just now i install NFS Most Wanted for my SGSA which take up to 2GB. it was pretty smooth for SGSA. but then i realize that after moving the game using App2Sd, it move from Internal memory into USB Storage instead of SD Card. now my internal remain untouch at 1.21GB, but it take 2GB from the USB Storage which leave only 220mb left instead of my 16GB SD card with 8GB free space. i also detect that any app that been moved from internal memory get into USB Storage instead of my SD card. is there any way to move Apps/Games to the SD Card(not USB Storage, the 8GB/16GB that come with the phone)? maybe theres an app or manual method to move them to SD Cards.
my SGSA:
-JellyMod4.0
-CoCore E5.6.2
-CrossBreeder 3.15.13
current storage status:
internal = 1.97GB, free 1.21GB
USB Storage =3.92GB, free 220mb
SD Card = 14.62GB, free 7.32GB
you can swap usb with sdcard (then mobile memory = sdcard) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36530952&postcount=1011 or try use apps like mountstorage (some app dont work)
