Titanium Backup and Restore?

How does this work? I have a full Titanium Backup and I remove a few Apps if I do Full backup again will my Removed Apps be totally gone in the Backup Folder or are they still there from Original Backup? If they are still in the Backup is there a way to get them out so if I need to restore the Removed Apps don't reappear on my phone?

They will remain there.
To remove them you can either scroll to the bottom in Backup/Restore and select each one then hit "Delete" or Menu->Batch->"Delete backups for un-installed apps" then Menu->Refresh apps list
To batch restore apps without restoring specific ones Menu->Batch->"Restore all apps with data" then uncheck the apps you don't want to restore, and begin.

To MAKE SURE they are still there you need to HIT the menu button once you have opened up Titanium Backup, then HIT Preferences, scroll down to MAX BACKUP and change it from the default (1) to whatever hou want/need. I have mine set to three. This way it can save older versions of the appear. I have found that on occasion the newer version of apps sometimes have an issue so I go and use the previous version saved. This will also keep your uninstalled appear at the bottom with a line through them. You can usually just click on the lined through app and hit restore. Then choose either app or app+data. Also I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND the paid version. It will do the batch restore with one click of the restore appear+data. The free version will also batch restore them all but it goes through each app and you have to say okay each time for each app. Specially if you start trying out different rims every couple days like a lot of us do. Also the paid version (not sure.of the free version) let's you back it up to the external sd card. You just go to preferences, backup folder name, then type in external_sd/ in front of the TitaniumBackup that is already there and it will automatically change it to mnt/sdcard/external_sd/TitaniumBackup.
JUST MAKE SURE whenever you restore NEVER choose to restore system app and data. ONLY restore app+data or you will end up with force closes.

I do not have the paid version but I have a question about the free version. After I backup all the apps and system data, I removed a system application such as "My Files" which didn't cause any problems. If I try to click on the backed up (crossed off in TB) to restore it, I do not have the option to restore.
Is this normal or should I be able to restore a system application that I have backed up?

I've never restored a system app, and maybe that's a paid feature. If there isn't a simpler method, it's pretty easy to copy back in if you're running a custom rom.
Open the customrom.zip, copy system/apps/MyFiles.apk from it and put it in /system/app on the phone.
There are around 50 way to do that. Via USB copy the file to the phone and then use Root Explorer to copy it from /sdcard to /system/apps for example. If you don't see it again in the apps folder, reboot.

I never thought to open the custom rom zip file. thank you!

A tangential question
I've done the TiBu backup but don't see quickoffice in the backup file. Does anyone know why?

[Q] Apps storing

Hi all,
Is there a way to save locally all the apps installed on the phone? My HD is rooted and I like to test new Rom, but I do not like the fact the phone have to download everythime I flash all the apps from the market. I bought a very powerfull backup programm... But I've to download it every flashing time. Is it possible to copy the *.apk from the system/apps folder and put there again once flashed?
Any suggestion?

I think what you are describing here is the Google back up service that reinstalls all you apps at once after a full wipe. This is optional and can be switched off
Personally I use titanium backup and on the occasions I need to do a full wipe I keep the titanium apk stored on my sd and then when the green robot appears on the welcome screen I press all for corners of the screen to exit the set up. I install titanium from the SD and use it to restore my pro key version. Then use batch restore to restore everything it takes a while but its automated at least.
After that has completed I log into my Google account and run the market to check for updates since last backup.
I'm not sure if this is faster than using Google restore but it means you can restore without wifi.
If your talking about being able to wipe the phone but leave system apps in place. Then I don't think this is possible.

[Q] Updating, Wiping, Restoring and Titanium...

Dear community,
today as a first step I have successfully rooted my Phone (Froyo 2.2.1) with CF-Root Kernel and Odin, yay! Thanks to all the Developers, Guides and Refs on this page!!
In order to fix my ongoing battery issues,next thing I want to try is to flash a new ROM; I think for stability and for practice the latest Froyo Build JS8! I have downloaded Titanium Backup and have successfully backed up all my system and user apps and settings.
Now when I flash the new ROM, the phone will be wiped, or at least the Wipe-method is recommended (hard-reset AFTER the flashing?).
Can I restore at least some settings and apps with my Titanium Backup Files (I read restoring system apps/settings is not recommended)?
How would I do that (where does Titanium save the backup files?)
How do you guys usually perform the steps to a new ROM without losing all system settings, apps, app-settings etc...?

I would recomend you, restore user apps only. It will restore your apps and their settings. You could do it in batch mode.
Also is recomended to copy your TitaniumBackup folder to PC
Last but not least, do not forget copy your EFS folder too.

1) Get titanium backup PRO.
2) Batch backup your whole system (while you're at it, create a schedule so your phone automatically gets backed up at least once/week). The files will go on your sd card in a TitaniumBackup folder (actually you can specify where they go).
3) Go and nuke your phone with whatever.
4) Re-install Titanium backup, then batch restore your USER apps & settings. Leave the system settings alone for now.
5) Okay for system settings, be a bit more selective:
6) Go to Backup/Restore tab, select menu, then filters, then apply a Filter by Type: System.
7) Anything in GREEN is system settings (red=system applications).
8) I typically restore the following: Contacts/Call-logs; SMS/MMS/APN; Bookmarks; SMS/MMS Preferences; Wifi Access Points; Calendar Storage (think that includes your alarm clock settings).
Note that you may need to reboot before you see the restore take effect - e.g. you can't see your restored sms till after reboot.
Also it's safest to grab a copy of your titanium backup folder and put it on your computer. Lookup how to get a copy of your /efs too.

Yet I want the apps to function properly once I need them.
P.S.: Before I proceed flashing a new ROM I will also look into backing up my /efs folder so thanks for pointing me at this!

Okay, I figured out how to backup the /efs folder via ADB shell.
Questions remain though concerning Titanium Backup Pro. Can someone that uss Titanium Pro help me with these questions?

You could convert it technically. But generally it's not advised as it may mess up settings or so on a different ROM. I backed up my system stuff but I doubt I'll restore it on any ROM, the hassle isn't worth it if any issue shows up and you have to check everything out to fix it. Maybe some individual system thingies can be restored safely but keep in mind lots of system stuff changes on each ROM and could be incompatible.
Just like others did here, I also recommend the PRO version as you have to click every single restoration on a batch restoration otherwise (and it's probably slower anyway).
Freezing means just that, it freezes the app. It "deactivates it", so it's not there/usable but it's not uninstalled. Can't think of a scenario right now where this would be useful except for testing purposes, maybe if an app causes an issue and you want it to be gone temporarily or so.
If you don't want an app to continue running simply use the task manager to kill it which comes along with the SGS (Samsung app afaik, usually pre installed).
Btw Titanium has a nice wiki website which is really helpful but can't link it as a new user here. Google Titanium Backup wiki and the first link should be the correct one.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you do a app+data restore the app doesnt show up in the market under installed which means that any updates to the app wont get rolled out.
What I did was install each of my apps from the market then did only a data restore. This worked for most of my apps BUT last night I noticed a few of my apps missing, in fact launching my angry birds from simi folder caused a FC. BUT I know that angry birds was working earlier in the day.
So I simply went back to the market and reinstalled and all seems well again.
So now I'm wondering what is the best method to restore, my method or maybe do a app+data restore then go to the market and install the app again.

Afaik, normally Titanium also backs up the links for the markets so the entries won't get lost and should be restored as well. There was an issue mentioned which can happen if that data gets corrupted. The Titanium wiki lists it.
Generally, installing the app from the market and then restoring it should work just fine.

Nandroid of Null 19 on new Galaxy Gear?

I have my GG setup and running nicely. I want to move to another Galaxy gear. What is the best way to transfer the exact setup without issue? Do a nandroid of my current setup and then restore the nandroid from TWRP on the new GG watch?

That's a very good question and I hope someone can respond.
I have 2 Gears on Null _ rom and every time I switch, i have to install my apps again and again, even if I select restore option in GM.
Strangely, it's not a total wipe because my Nova settings remains.
I hadn't think about the TWRP back up/restore option...

Backup in TWRP, copy to desktop, install TWRP on new watch, copy TWRP backup to the new watch, restore backup. It'll be like you never left.
And instead of Titanium or reinstalling after a Gear Manager upgrade (or whatever), just do a backup of /data and then restore /data after the upgrade. Takes 15 seconds and you're back where you started exactly, no hassle.

Does Smsung backup in Pie backups app data or just the aps (apk files)?

I want to do a factory reset. And the app doesn't save data on cloud.
Will built in backup/restore work in my case?

I found my app in Google Drive backup folder. So at least the app I am interested is safe.
But still need an answer regarding how Samsung backup works.

Not sure about Smart Switch but the normal backup that you restore when you setup your phone initially, does not backup app data or the APK. It just reinstalls from the Playstore.

Yeah, this is exactly what I was talking about, I've backup and restored my phone from Samsung Cloud atleast 20 times already and it has never restored app data. It will backup a list of the apps you have installed and install that list when you initially setup the phone but that's it.

I always backup apps with Google and data, desktop settings, and other settings with Samsung cloud backup. I have never had problems with restoring after that.

You aren't understanding this question, he wanted the app data backed up, so after he resets his phone, the app is exactly how it was before the reset. Google's backup doesn't do that either. The only way I'm aware to have that backed up is Titanium Backup, which requires root.

Like I wrote, when I backup with booth Google and Samsung cloud. My apps data and settings are exactly like before after Factory reset and restore.

Ok so.. To be clear.. Nothing.. Nothing backs up the apps data like titanium backup.. I used it long time ago, but i stopped rooting since few years.
Now the difference between samsung backup or cloud or switch (all almost does the same thing) and Google backup cant be determined..
Here is my experience..
Google backup does backup apps data and settings perfectly when using a pixel phone.. So pixel to pexil..
Samsung cloud or switch does backup SOME apps data (Samsung to Samsung). And does backup the majority of Samsung native apps and settings (always misses something when restoring)
However, i noticed that as long as you are backing up and restoring to the same phone (same device not only same brand) then either Samsung or Google do restore the most possible..
You have to keep in my mind that there are apps that i couldn't restore its data no matter what, and mostly these apps are the ones that have higher authentication (Instagram, WhatsApp, shipment tracking apps, banks apps and so on).. But i was always able to restore apps like Talon or Fenix (twitter apps)..
I believe that some apps do allow restoration as long as its coming back to the same exact device (simple formate and restore) but others dont no matter what..
Recently i did a factory reset after updating to pie (i didn't factory reset during the beta so my apps where already setup on pie) so moving from pie to pie in samsung and same device using SD card and Samsung switch. I would say most of samsung settings where restored, 40% of my apps data restored, i had 2 or 3 apps completely not restored and i downloaded them again from play store.. Most of samsung native apps settings were restored..
I would advice, doing both Samsung switch and Google backup (keep in mind that Google back is now activated and u can manually backup ur device anytime) thats what i did, and when i restored the last time, i restored from both, because when u do the setup, first google asks you if you want to restore then samsung asks you too.. So i did both.. And i would say it worked better than what i expected, minimal setup overall compared to a fresh device setup.. But expect an hour or 2 of double checking of you do check all apps after restoring like me..

This thread is relevant to me. I want to root my phone, but first I want to backup my apps and data. I know in future I can use Titanium Backup but how to backup now without root. Is everyone using Smart Switch and Google Backup. I looked at Helium but most apps say they can't be backed up.
