[Q] Keeping system settings after flashing - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I will upgrade to CyanogenMod 10.2 20131225 (maclaw's) from 20131216. I've set my system preferences and looks just as I like it and I don't want to bother re-setting everything again after the flash. How can I do that?

Just flash the rom (update), wipe dalvik & cache then reboot. You won't lose you previous settings

thanks. just to state the obvious: i don't wipe the dalvik cache, system, cache and data before installation? (pretty much* doing the same here?)
*: without re-installing the google apps, of course.

Simply wipe dalvik & cache after flash the update, that's it. Don't mess with anything more & you're good to go

Question about wiping before loading ROMs

OK so every ROM that you want to move to requests (requires) that you wipe before you load the new ROM. That makes sense to me as you want a clean install.
My question is, what am I supposed to wipe (Sorry stupid question). I boot to recovery and I have a wipe menu and I have several options:
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe Dalvik-cache
Wipe SD:ext partition
I have two more for wiping stats which I will make an educated guess are not required. Should I wipe everything listed above? Just dalvik cache?

If you're installing a new rom, ALWAYS do da factory reset, wipe dalvik cache and cache partition!
On the other hand, if you only want to install an "update" (new version) of the SAME ROM you already installed (MIUI for example), you don't need to do factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache is enough, copy and flash the updated rom and enjoy in the new version with all your data/apps/messages etc. there!

can u tell me what is stored in Dalvik cache?
if you're on stock roms, then going to cm/miui, do this:
go Recovery
-wipe dalvik cache
-wipe cache
-wipe data
-install the rom
-then it will reboot automatically(or after installation, reboot) then it will bootloop
-remove battery and put it back in, then do 3 button combo (recovery mode)
then install the rom again,
-optionally install kernels, etc
-reboot.
or if you're coming from a same rom, but new version, you don't have to wipe, just install the new version of rom.
I would recommend to never format boot, if not done correctly it may brick your phone.

Hi, I'm using nitrogen OS on my Redmi note 3. It got updated to 8.1.0(Oreo) through flashing from 8.0.0(Oreo). While doing so I didn't clear the necessary cache like dalvik, system in TWRP. Is it necessary to clear the cache in TWRP while upgrading in the android version?(Though I'm using same AOSP based nitrogen os for 8.0.0 & 8.1.0)

Cache and Dalvik cache

Have been using JB ROM from Elitemovil for two months now and noticed that the phone is now slower than before.
Can I just delete the Cache and Dalvik cache from CWM recovery and count that all things and programs will work fine after I restart the phone?
And - BTW, can both cache's be deleted anytime without any future problems with installed programs or any other setting?
Will these cachees be automatically rebuild during boot process?

Dalvik cache is associate with the booting of the phone... deleting it will generally not affect the performance of the phone and nor will it cause any problems with the installed apps and settings...
Deleting cache may improve the performance of the apps whose cache will be cleared.. Don't think that it'll make any major difference though..
Dalvik cache is rebuilt when you power on your phone after clearing dalvik cache.. the other cache is built as you use your applications.
that and a factory reset speed up my phone

What the hell is wrong with you?! Every time I open a topic in this section you advise people to wipe their phones. That's not what "help" means. Looks like you're a little post farmer...

installing RC1 using rom manager over original ROM

When installing CM 10.1 RC1 using rom manager over original ROM.
Do I need to clear some partitions manually or does rom manager do all for me?

For eliminating causes for some problems that may be appear is recommended to do:
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- wipe dalvick cache
- format system
Doing that, you have a clear fresh device for installing new software.
