Micro SD for our Droid 4 - Motorola Droid 4

Good evening and merry christmas to christians in the forum!!
So, my question is about a suggestion size and class for the Droid 4...I had a 2 gb micro sd since I bought it, and know I would like more, mostly for photo and video of the camera and leave internal memory emptier....
I had a Backflip and bigger sd made it slower...
Thanks for help!

I have a 32 gb ScanDisk Ultra class 10 and a class 4 of the same size and see no major advantage of the class 10 card except when copying files from the PC (which I hardly ever do). Neither slows the device in any way.

I bought two months ago a Transcend 64 GB MicroSD UHS1 Card for 40 Euro. I had to format it with FAT32 manually, the MicroSD Card runs without any issues.

Same here, I have 64GB UHS1 (SanDisk, had it for over a year), runs without problems.
Naturally indexing for new media databases is slow because of LOTS of data, but I hate media databases anyways and remove apps using them right away...
It's usually only the first run of such apps though.
Never experienced any hardware-related problems with my memory card

Thanks for the answers!

Memory card advice wanted

Hi,
I've just received my TyTn II and am interested in getting a memory card for it.
It takes Micro SD but what is the max size that it/WM6 will work with?
Also, what is Micro SDHC? and can I use it?
I've seen a 2GB MicroSD card for £7.55 del. but I probably want a bigger card.
I intend using it for tomtom - photos - some games and apps and of course data file storage.
TIA
Bryan
I picked up a SanDisk 8GB via Amazon for under $70 USD (minus shipping).
http://www.amazon.com/Sandisk-Micro...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1204123335&sr=8-1
I have a San Disk 8gig in mine and it's great.
Cheers, Paul
Thanks for the quick replies,
As you are using 8GB cards they must be MicroSDHC? AFAIK MicroSD cards that hold 4GB or greater are all MicroSDHC.
Any chance you can pop your card and see?
The 8Gb SanDisk that I ordered is MicroSDHC (a.k.a. 2.0).
The HC stands for High Capacity and it is indeed for cards above 4 GB.
The device for the memory card has to be HC capable and lucky for us, our Kaiser is
Every micro sd card also has a class (2, 4 or 6 I believe). The higher the number, the better transfer rates (and response time), but also the bigger the cost.
I currently have a 6 GB (class 4) micro SD card. I'm going to wait a while to buy a new one until cards with about 16 GB or 32 GB (or something like that) of memory come around.
I'm also running the sandisk 8gb SDHC card. Its speedy and
works flawlessly. I got it on amazon for about 80 USD
The only thing i could recommend after having a card this big
is a good card exporting program on your phone so not
limited by activesync
Thanks for the help.
The 2GB MicroSD card at £7.55 seems very good value but I'll wait for an 8GB MicroSDHC deal to come along.
Hopefully a faster variant too..
Is it possible to connect the phone to a PC and have it recognised as a large memory stick? I know some phones do and then you can just explore them like a disc drive.
I will setup activesync at home for normal installation etc. but wondered if I could access the SD card whilst in phone from the PC/USB a la memory stick whilst at work.
yes, you can access the SD card like it's a memory stick by exploring. However, the transfer rate isn't as good as a USB connection with a stick. The 8GB SanDisk comes with a USB reader so that the card can actually be used in the reader just like a stick. Fastest transfer rate I've ever gotten with my phone
I'm using an 8Gb SanDisk MicroSDHC.
Works great!
I have a 8gb and it is fine.. but if you wait until next month you can pick up a 12gb and really have some storage space.
'im using a sandisk 6GB MicroSDHC for about 50canadian$

Talk about a deal i just purchased two 8gb for $70 because they were used and only came with one adapter.
I got my 8 gb sandisk sdhc card on ebay - another place to look for a great deal. Just be careful about the track record of the seller. I love the 8 gb card, but will be looking for a 16 gb card when they come out.
i saw the 16GB ones out anyone tried if it will work with the kaiser???
I run a Kingston 8GB SDHC in mine without problems (brought it over from my SDHC enabled Orbit), which I bought for £25 about 8 months ago from mobymemory. Never had any problems with it at all.

Which size (GB) of SD-Cards fit in the Kaiser?

Hello,
i want to buy a bigger SD-Card for my Kaiser but which Size is the biggest that would work in the Phone?
4, 8, 16, 32GB or more???
Which Size are you using???
Thanks for the answers
Mrxdaking
32gb sdhc card is the max you can use.
I'm using a 16Gb.
SanDisk 16 gb, and works perfect.
I'm running a Kingston 16GB SDHC card, so far so good, however I am noticing some problems with Audio Manager with some albums.
Am just putting the music back on, to check if its not just a problem with the original transfers, but it shouldn't be.
Will keep you posted.
Avoid Sandisk 6 GB if you can
I'm using Sandisk 16 GB now and it's working fine. I used to have a Sandisk 6 GB in the same device and that was problematic and kept loosing files 3 times over a period of months so I'd personally avoid a 6 GB card in a TyTN II!
Agree with the above--16GB no problem. I wouldn't even bother with 32GB, they are sooo expensive and so easy to lose
I use an 8 GB sandisk since almost a year and a half and it just works perfectly, never faced any trouble using it
Let's all repeat each other..
I use an 8 GB sandisk and have no problems, also I use an 8 GB sandisk and have also had no problems.
its like deja vu all over again
btw: Did any of you ever notice a different speed with different classes?
e.g. is class4 faster (feeling) than class2 aso.?
I personally can't see any speed drop from 8gb class4 to 16gb class2
I got SanDisk 16gb class 4 in my Kaiser, and it works excellent.
hello,
i have bought 2 16GB (sandisk class 2) micro sd card for my kaisers.
i have 3. 2 htc 1 vodavone.
the 2 htc only see 1 GB
the vodavone kaiser doesn't sees the sd al all.. is there a tweak for the large sdhc or is it something else?
anyone an idea why my kaiser and touch only see less than 1GB of an 16GB microsd?

Not fat32 formatted? Or is it 16, sorry too drunk to remmeber, it's one of those.
so a sdhc card will work in kaiser (Tytn II) ?

This is worth it, take it from someone who was looking for something other than SanDisk 32GB C2 I have been waiting for Kingston's 32GB C4 for long time and when it came out I got it though offical site for $159.
Yeah, I ordered one of these last week from newegg along with an otterbox defender case for $33 w/free shipping for both.... not too bad at all. Should be getting them today. Has anyone used the Kingston class 4 32gb card for running android on the hd2?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Well, far as I know people do claim the R/W IOPs for HD2 when card inside the device won't go beyond class 2 rate but some who did use class 4-6 cards said they did see major improvement in terms of loading OS/Apps from mSD card. Anything beyond class 4 is an overkill on HD2 that I accept unless you are moving around massive amount of data and use HD2 as your mean to transfer it, in that case just buy thumb drive.
"Sent from my PC using THE hand" lol
I was in a Fry's Electronics the other day and I saw a 16gb Class 10 microsd card for $32.00. Don't remember the maker but it was not name brand, that is extremely questionable
wow
my videos which are about 12g play almost instantly now i love this card and the free usb reader, thanks kingston
Ya this card was worth waiting for hell I shot up an storm in this section comparing other vendors. Now I have the SanDisk 16GB C2 card not sure what to do with it, hopefully I can sell that cheap.
same
stuck with the sandisk
I ordered this 32GB class 4 card from Kingston and it is much slower then my old SanDisk card. Booting Android took over 5 minutes and after that the device still is VERY slow.
With its card reader I could copy my files onto it with 3-4MB/s.
Then I installed SKTools under Windows Mobile and used its benchmark tool to compare my SD Cards:
My old SanDisk 8GB card (stock one from the blackstone, afaik class 2): ~6,6MB/s reading and 1,1-1,5MB/s writing
The new class 4 32GB Kingston card: ~2,2MB/s reading and 500-700KB/s writing
So I can't use Android with this crappy SD card.
Ya IDK man same on my end. Took me 25min to traf 320mb files, ATM showing me 116min to traf 4.1gb.
i got kingston 23gb class 4. really disappointed takes forever to transfer. but speed test shows its class 4.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861232
oh yeah i got the one from frys it rocks to bad its not 32gb.
I would stick with SanDisk.
I wanned to try out a faster card so got a class 6 Kingston 8gb.. while it loaded things faster, it caused severe stuttering and lagginess at times.
Upon reserach i found, kingston, and many other cards are not the same quality grade as sandisk, i am told in order to be price competitive they buy crap from others at cheap and stick thier name in it. And sometimes they buy rejects from sandisk, toshiba, samsung etc and brand them.....
Unfortunately i cant remmeber the links i researched....
So i would stick with sandisk, or another proven manufacturer....
UThis is total BS, I started it at like 6PM and now its 10:40PM and still 78min's to go WTF and its just 4.2GB music files avg at like 3-6mb/ea. Now I remember putting the whole dir in SanDisk 16GB Class 2 in less than 40min. So WTF does it take so long? Also as I wrote to Kingston CS ill share it here.
To make the file transfer go faster you have to directly allocate the file in memory thus saving time for R/W IO access. I did test many times but I am not even sure HD2 is following SD 2.0 or is it just this POS card no were close to even the stock SanDisk's.
Test: Dir with 5 files at 5mb/ea so thats 25mb. If you copy each file you reduce the time by 3x but if you copy the dir all the objects inside takes time to allocate for some reason.
PS: I am thinking about now getting SanDisk 32GB Class 2.
***UPDATE***

--------
SanDisk 16GB Class 2 = 26min
Kingston 32GB Class 4 = 191min

I also don't understand this.. I have a 16gb C2 card and wanted to experiment a lot with the various android roms out there, so thought a C4 would be the answer. ordered a 16gb C4 and it is always slower than the C2. a full 30 seconds on booting Android.
This confuses me.....okay okay .. thats not hard to do, but as far as I'm concerned if a card is rated at twice the "constant" speed of the other .. it should be faster...

I think it really depends on the card and not the class. I have a couple of Class4 and Class6 cards with identical builds of android and my class2 16gb continually outperform them in boot times and general speed. Class only designates write speed and there is a lot more to an SD card's performance that is not captured in the class designation.
ATM I am thinking about returning the Kingston 32GB C4 as I spoke to Kingston Tech Support and might go with SanDisk 32GB C2. Alot of people say SanDisk is superior and is faster for some reason and getting close to class 4 rating.

Good luck to you.. and if you find the San Disk C4 is sooo much faster than the C2 can you report back please .. ?? So I can go get one
I just bought a kingston 32gb class 6 micro sdhc but when ever i put it in my hd2 it just freezes up and as soon as I remove the card it works fine again. At first i thought that it was a fake so I:
1)performed multiple tests,
2)reformated a 1000 times,
3)even putting 20gb of data just to make sure.
Turns out that it is authentic and it works perfectly on my girlfriend's htc BalckStone it also worked when I installed NAND (which i later removed due to insufficient memory).Ive been searching for days, I think its a windows mobile issue, any tips??

LOL you are way to funny man as you said "I just bought a kingston 32gb class 6 micro sdhc" and then on top of that "Turns out that it is authentic".
I am guessing you got this card from eBay? If thats the case then its fake ill tell you why as there is no Kingston 32GB Class 6 card ATM. My best bet is you do extended data testing on it and verify the content to make sure its not corrupted. But if I was you I wouldn't do any of this as ill return that POS, why take chance with your data? Also NEVER buy memory cards via eBay or else you will be pwned with notorious chinese fakes.
But for those who actually thinking about buying the legit Kingston 32GB Class 4 microSD read below and think twice.

Wintec Class 10 microSDHC 16GB Card - $29.49

Saw this card on Newegg today. Pretty cheap for a Class 10 16GB card and reviewers state it meets Class 10 standards, and that it appears to be a rebranded Samsung card, so it is a quality product.
Android only supports Class 6, meaning this card should be plenty quick, and will utilize full Class 10 potential during file transfers over USB.

Wintec 16gb CL10
Just got the Wintec 16gb CL10 from Newegg, put it in my Sprint Hero to format and as soon as it finish saying setting SD card the screen locked up. removed battery/ installed and saw installed apps icons were gone in its places gear icon. Installed original 8gb and app icons were back but apps came up with FC. removed each app and reinstalled and they work fine now. I'm afraid to put the 16gb back in, it seems fine in my laptop. I have no idea whats wrong!
I got one of these around Christmas. Formatted, partitioned and transferred my stuff. I thought all was well until I had to restore a nandroid and it bootlooped. I put my old 8G Sandisk back in and haven't tried again. So my experience was it worked about a week. I guess it's a write/read issue. I had trouble with recovery mounting the card to even see my backups. I had read reviews of spotty quality and I guess I had the bad luck of the draw.
hmmm ok then I guess i'll pass on this one. I want to get one that'll last so i can transfer it to a new phone when i upgrade.
on htc website, it says microSD 2.0 compatable, & i know some phones can only support so much extra storage, ie: some say microSD up to 16gb, so maybe the hero doesnt support high capasity cards.
anybody got a conformation on how big a microsd card we can go, that wont cause issues.
i was looking @ this card in the OP, but now im double thinking.

If you mean the 32gb your gonna have to search cuz I've seen very few. Don't remember what brand, most that are 32 gb I've seen are class2. I have a class 10 8gb here and it runs slower in my phone than my class 6 does.Sorry I can't give you more info.My class 10 is a Patriot
I bought the wintech 16 gig card back in january and 15 days later I woke up and my phone said the sd card was not formatted. Both windows 7 and ubuntu 10.10 only saw the card as 1 gig but neither could format it nor create new partition tables. I lost all the data but luckily had a semi recent backup on my computer. RMA'ed it back to newegg and got a 16 gig class 6 card from a more reliable manufacturer.

Maximum storage card capacity

Hi,
I want to buy a micro SD : I have seen that the maximum storage for micro sd was of 16 GB.
Someone has already tested a 32 GB storage card?
If yes, Does it work correctly?
Thanks for your answer.
it's works i don't now how becouse i just test my friends card.
Sorry for my English
Maybe it's was on android 1.6 (max 16), but 2.1 should be supported with 32GB
well, i got my X8 only a week ago, it's my first smartphone.
seriously, what do you guys want to store with 32GB card?
i can't imagine what to store in such space, i figure one could make a portable toilet out of it and still got some more space.
Movies (avi, wmv, etc). HD photos from professional photocameras, hi fi music like wav. Download a lot of stuff with torrent client and else. 32 GB really need for me.

Is it possible to have 32GB card in X8 I think that it support up to 16GB ??
I couldn't tell you, because I've bought an 16GB card (class10).
With the price of a 32 GB microSD, I could not fool me.
I think that 32GB is more money then the Phone
You are able to mount 32GB card I've just checked it out but the results are horrible - 500 MB of freshly copied music on the card, and now it is showed as "damaged" on the notification bar. I wouldn't recommend it to you.

I think the X8 will also work extrem slow with a sd card of 16 or 32gb
And with 32Gb class10? The read/write speed is biggest?
I believe that is not a question of card's speed, but more of device's ability to comprehend such a huge space. Just like with enormous hard drives in older computers.
ok.. maybe this out of topic..
what brand of SD card with class 6 or 10??
n where to buy??
im just unable to find it in my country.
in my opinion, 32gb can be handle with very well if this SD card are good.

32 gb for a phone is a lot of capacity
Im using 32gb sandisk class 2 memory card in my galaxy s initially when it was 2.1 it was slow. But now after 2.2 update its okay. Only startup and shut down process Will take long time. class doesn't matter on phone it matters only when data is to be transferred from pc to phone . Max transfer speed Will be 2mbps in class 2.

there's a lot of good brand to choose actually, personally i'm using transcend.
what city are you in? in Bandung, you can try BEC. i bought mine from kaskus though, it has almost everything we look for
class.. hmm IMO it's unnecessary to use such a high class card. class 6 (6MB/s) is sufficient enough, because android apps are usually not really big, only 10-12 MB at most so no need for such a large data transfer rate.
Has anyone had good success with the 32Gb card? I dont want to buy one if it's just gonna not work properly.
thanks
Won't work
Chances are, it wouldn't work.
The Xperia X8 currently only supports up to 16GB of memory. If you go higher than that you would experience problems. You might be able to make it work for a few minutes then it might not be able to read the mem card.
Hopefully, in future updates we could use 32GB cards.
I've searched around, no walk-arounds on this yet. If I were you, I'd stick with 16GB. That's a lot of storage!
