Hi All,
I have a Note N-7000. I got it just a few weeks before ICS roll out. The Camera behaves weird and now its not the same as it was in 2.3.
daylight photos are okay but low light photos are really thumbs down and a lot of Red-Eye.
I still have photos before and after update and I can see quality of photos degrading after that!!!
Is Every1 having similar opinions or do I need any other settings to better the quality of photos??
Need you opinion...
Camera on ICS AND JellyBean is Better than on GingerbREAD
I still feel that camera quality has degraded in ICS..is your note also a GT N-7000??
Everyones note there is a GT-N7000....would be really weird if the folks who use the american Note were hanging out here.....
But no, I've not noticed it and the camera in the JellyCore ROM (JellyBean rom) is better than the GB one

Personally i found the camera on cm9 based roms disappointing .. Sure its faster but quality is not as same as tw based roms.

We'll my brother has the I717 and comparing my N7000 to his, I'd say the cam resolution is much more cleaner and sharp as compared to mine.. Though I can't say if this is ROM related or so.... he has CM10 installed and I have the (self modified) LRQ one. Not that it matters though.
exactly the same thing I observed that the indian note camera's quality's degraded than thew others..I see a lot of red-eye too when i use flash..is there any setting for removing that or any update or something that would better the quality..??
Good evening all,
I see a lot of posts about people wanting to use the stock Samsung camera on AOSP/AOKP/CM roms. We know this can't be done and it's unfortunate.
Whilst the experience with the camera is generally better on TW ROMS due to the ability of using the stock Camera, you can get some very, very good results using the correct applications in CM based ROMs too. I have attached a shared folder on my Google Photos application to showcase this.
These were all taken using either Camera MX or Open Camera. HDR enabled for most (if not all) of them and very few of them have been edited in any way (besides the obvious Vignette one with my nephew and 3 dogs, and the other one of my puppy and his big brother). Let me know your thoughts and if anyone wants any tips on using their camera, let me know. You can get some INCREDIBLE examples using the camera in your pocket, remember that.
Fact ; I use my S5 as my camera for taking my photography shots for the adverts I produce and not once has anyone noticed they're from a phone. I do use an iPhone 6S for the videography because it's in an entirely different league, but photography still comes from the S5.

Some of them look pretty good, but the colour is very washed out, and there are dark shadows around the edges of a few too
Can't beat the stock TW Samsung camera

Oh I completely agree, just wanted to shine some positive light on what's usually a very negative point from a user feedback point of view!
Yea they're not bad, but I use the camera on the S5 a lot, and tried custom ROMs in the past, the camera always brought me back to stock
...is the camera...
Does anyone else feel this way? Kinda sucks that there's no way to have access to the best the camera hardware has to offer on AOSP builds, and I just miss their snappiness and lighter battery drain...
As a side note, the Edge features even would have been nice if there were more people using them, but tbh it just seems like another one of those things a company comes up with to ultimately abandon support-wise...
Camera, and S-pen (handwritten notes as well as on photos, screens etc)
Wysłane z mojego SM-N910C przy użyciu Tapatalka
Camera is the biggest issue for me too.. but the fingerprint is also a problem, but a problem i can live with...
Actually...I payed all those hardware...the IR blaster, the heart rate monitor, the fingerprint sensor, the pen, the amazing antishake camera...I want to be able to used them even tho i dont daily..And i hate Touchwiz.. AOSP rom is smooth and clean..I wish there was a way to get all the drivers (and software of them) for those things and port to AOSP..
BTW: Cynogen not supporting N910C Exynos.. Sucks big time....What did we do to you guys???
I used to Agree
Untill recently.
Im a flashaholic so there arent meany roms i haven't tried for the F. Used to stay with Sammy roms for the camera and the battery life. But I have to say, with the likes of AICP being out vertually bug free, its a fair trade off.
TBH the camera isnt that bad a quality (will never match Samsung own, nor be close) but its decent enough for day to day use. The battery is actually better than any other Sammy rom i have yet used (latest AICP buid). Rom is crazy fluid, super smooth and feature rich. Really cant complain. You can nearly emulate everything that the spen could offer. It still works, just none of the bells and whistles. We have Memo built in now too. I dont use Shealth (use Fit as it works with my Lg watch)
So ultimately I think it comes down to one thing, How dependant have you become on Samsungs own Services?
If like my wife, you use Shealth, Snote, and all the rest, you will find it agonising to make the transition.
If its just Camera Quality and/or battery putting you off AOSP, try it, try to make it work before you dismiss it as there are lots of options and benefits to be had. Open camera is really decent nowadays.
The Rom has had such a impact on me, im actually considering getting a nexus over a Note 7 next (always had a sammy phone since s2) Crazy, I know :silly:
Bought this phone yesterday. I'm new to Samsung. I had seen and read a lot of reviews and articles, and all were very positive about the camera, but in my experience its very disappointing. Especially the front facing camera. It's always blurry, and what is up with all that smoothing out??? Even when it's off it just does the same. I haven't changed any special settings. After looking for a solution I see that I'm not the only one experiencing this. Is this just a question of taste, or is there really something "broken" at the moment with this camera?? I'm really considiring returning this phone. 1000€ and this is the picture quality I get?
I paid considerably less than 1000€ a week after launch, I think I'd return it if I paid that much. I've had some good photos from the camera and also less impressive ones, it seems Pro mode is the place to be.
Yes the selfie cam sucks. Too much post processing causing the smoothing effect. I'm not an Instagram model, I don't need to look airbrushed.
The rear shooters though can produce some really nice pics.
It's the software that causes issues. The hardware is solid.
The other option is to download GCam which uses Google's HDR Processing from the Pixel devices. It produces really nice photos. Some GCam builds have Night Sight working as well.
You might find this link useful for installing GCam, it seems to be a bit hit and miss, the camera works for a little while and then just force closes every time it's launched.

Welcome to the esteemed club of Note 9 owners! unfortunately a lot of us are already having this issue and understand exactly how you feel! there is a thread on here already about this: see below
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/help/galaxy-note-9-camera-sharp-t3835459
and trust me its annoying having paid so much for this device and then get this rubbish picture quality!.... and I bet you any money Samsung folks read these forums so whether its a case of "cant be bothered" or "working on it", no one knows!
I hear the point about Gcam download as an option but I really feel I should not need to download additional software to make up for Samsung's lapses. We buy this device cos we love it and desperately want it to work, guess Samsung makes them only to get our money... not rocket science who the real losers are !

Tbh I also paid far less. But still, one expects to get a decent camera for this price and all that marketing jibberjabber. How come all big YouTube tech reviewers praise this camera ?! Money makes them dance

Now if these problems can be fixed with future updates that would be great, but is there communication from Samsung about this? And can this be fixed with (near) future updates.

So you don't have any third party apps on your device?
I'm about to return my phone and get my money back.. But i'm still doubting. .. Can these problems be fixed with future updates? Can we expect a good stock camera app in the near future?

The only likely upgrade would be Samsung's take on Night sight, I wouldn't expect any miracles.
Guys, hey, HW is solid as someone said, i also have some issues with cam quality, i thing that we must wait till we have pie update and then see what changes. Like im working with audio eq and for example player FIIOX5 III sounds quite bad at beggining, but later firmware updates makes it much better. So i thing - wait for software update and then decide to do something with it or ask for refound.

It's been hit and miss too for me, coming from a Pixel 2 XL.
Things are considerably better since I use the Arnova's Gcam port (better than my Pixel 2 XL in fact), and it made me realize Samsung's app/post-processing is the issue, not the Note 9 camera/sensor
Samsung needs to go back to the drawing board and do something about that agressive, over the top post-processing. Like I said, Gcam produces way better, more natural looking like pics, and most of all, they're not blurry (faster shutter time with Gcam maybe?)

Have you tried the one via official XDA

Is there difference with the Arnova port?

More features like Advanced HDR+ and Night Sight are working for me with Arnova's builds vs the one you just posted.
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-arnova8G2/
Can you post some sample pics? This phone is consistently rated as one of the top cameras on the market and I have to say that I'm not disappointed. In good conditions it's hard to say that it's any worse than my DLSR with expensive lenses. Night shots are excellent too. If your rear camera is as bad as you claim, perhaps there is a hardware problem? The front camera does apply a lot of post processing (which I'm not a fan of either) but you can turn most of it off.
TLDR: either you have an actual hardware problem or insanely high expectations, the camera on this phone is just about the best on the market. When I say that it comes close to my DSLR, I'm not kidding.

I added a screenshot. Do you install the first one or the second one?
Edit: the first one force closes every time, and the second one doesn't have all options it seems, like night vision en HDR+

That's the one you want: https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/MGC_6.1.021_BSG_Arnova-based_v.1.3d_TlnNeun_2.apk
If it force-closes on launch, that's because it was installed over an older version, just clear data + cache and relaunch, it will work
Reading some of these comments . . . The stock camera app takes fantastic looking pictures IF the subject is not moving. Try taking a picture of your kid or pet doing anything BUT standing still and the photo is a blurred mess. Wish the shutter speed was faster smh not holding my breath on Samsung fixing it thru an update

Use Pro mode if you want to be able to specify your shutter speed, I find the raw's are pretty good once they've had some basic touch-ups.
It seems that the S22 Ultra use a lot of the same stuff like lenses, maybe the whole camera setup. So we dont know, if they improve software AI and we also dont know, if that really requires Exynos 2200 or SD8 Gen1.
In the past, there were many things ported from newer models to older models. Even GCAM get a port.
Im interested into the updated camera app from the S22U because of 108MP enhancer mode and less noice in video.
Do you think it is possible and someone will do?
I use the unofficial ExpertRAW heavily and in my opinion it can improve image quality a lot. As long as nobody compare ExpertRAW from both phones, I doubt there will be much hardware upgrades in camera Departement.

+1, I've been wondering about the same as well, back when I owned an S8+, I remember getting rom ports of the note 8 alongside which you would get the new camera app as well
I know getting the entire rom ported over to the phone, only the camera app should be sufficient here since software updates pretty much bridge any and all difference between phones except for specific apps, like the camera
S22 runs on oneui 4.1, we are on 4.0 probably some of the new features will be available for us once we get an update. To be honest I would wait till that and then see if there is anything "missing".
Probably samsung will restrict something for newest device, but there is a chance that we will get nearly everything as the hardware should not be an issue.
The improvements on main camera seems impossible to port on 21U for the isp on snapdragon 888 can't take one photo in 108MP mode and 12MP mode at the same time which is available on snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
