I rooted my phone without noting my original version first. Any way to find out my original kernel / rom?
Thanks
Can you tell us where you are in the world? Are you running a custom rom?
Depending on where you are, we can tell you the possibilities and the latest stock rom/kernel. If you know your stock rom version, it's as easy as looking up the version notes to see the kernel version.

I am from Israel. I am running a custom Rom (when I rooted the phone, I found the rom in a rooting guide- copied from this forum , only then, unfortunately, I found the original rooting thread in this forum..
So currently I have:
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband Version: I9100XXKG1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.6-I9100XWKDD-CL161513
[email protected]#2
Build number: Lite`ning Rom 2.0 XXKG1
This info is all from the the "about phone".
Thanks
Go to
samfirmware.com
Go to the mobile section, android, i9000 then look for the most up to date version for your area. I am in canada, so I don't know right now what version it is.
you can tell me the version if you find it, and I can tell you the kernel version.

Sorry, I did not understand your instructions mate, stuck at finding i9000 after clicking on "mobile" link".
You need to find the stock firmware for your region. It's by country, split into north america, asia, middle east and africa, europe and provider firmwares. Once you know that, you can follow a guide to flash the firmware you want.

I9100? That's Galaxy S II. You are posting on wrong forum. Maybe try here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1055 ?

Recently i got 8.9 Tab 4G from telstra in Australia. I would like to know if P7320TDVLB2 is latest firmware or not.
If there is a newer firmware what is it called.
Thanks
LB is 2012 February so i believe its the latest one available.
Probably newest. Check sammobile.com every now and then for releases.

I had got this phone from Portugal and I currently reside in India. This phone has not been released here. So I guess there wouldn't be an OTA update here. Guidance regarding which region update I should use with ODIN and would it be better if I wait for a OTA whenever it happens?
TIA

In my experience on multiple phones (Gio, Ace, S2) firmwares downloaded from sammobile for any region are flawlessly installed via odin. So i reckon you can download and install (via odin) the latest available firmware, regardless of which region it belongs to :good:
Thank you. Shall update it this weekend.

Heya,
I have a Galaxy Note GT-N7000 and i'd really like to have Jelly Bean on it, but i live in Jordan and no official firmware has been released for Jordan yet. HOWEVER, JB has been released for the United Arab Emirates, So, is it safe to install that firmware on my phone since both countries are in the middle east?
You can flash any country rom ( just requires to be for same device n7000.)

All XX baseband is good to go. If you flash anything else you might get issues with connectivity as it's not optimised for european region.
Also if you flash a version that is not officially out for your csc (three letter country code), kies and ota updates might won't work as it should.
