[Q] Internal Storage shows incomplete list of folders - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When attaching via USB and accessing the Internal Storage via Windows Explorer it takes a long time to display the list of files and folders (minutes) and the "complete" list is a small subset (just 6) of the available folders
However when I use Astro or ES FIle Explorer directly on the One everything looks fine
I'm rooted, S-OFF, SuperCID and running ViperOne 3.5.0 ROM
This has only started happening in the past few days with the most recent thing that I've done to the One is achieving S-OFF using rumrunners.
Can anyone offer any thoughts as to where the problem might be, PC Drivers, ROM, S-OFF etc?
Apologies if this is the wrong forum\thread, I was going to post it in the ViperOne developers thread but It's my first "need help" post and I don't have enough post count!
[EDIT} Just to close this out, the issue seems to have resolved itself. No idea why though, I didn't change anything from when I was experiencing the problem.
Will put it down to "one of those things" and keep an eye on it going forward!

[Q] g sensor not working (SOLVED!)

ok, i have a problem with the g sensor on the samsung captive. now, i've thoroughly searched online and on these forums for a fix, and i've found a few fixes. unfortunately, none of them worked.
before i get into that, here's my phone info:
SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
firmware 2.2
kernal 2.6.32.9
build Cognition 4.3
comp os win7 64bit (if it matters)
now, here is the first fix ive found:
http://androidforums.com/captivate-support-troubleshooting/162768-lost-auto-rotation.html
response #12
ive tried that using terminal emulator, but i get an error saying ADB not found. i downloaded the Android SDK with ADB, navigated to it using the command prompt and typed adb shell as instructed only to get an error saying device not found.
now, i completely abandoned that fix (since i felt i was doing something wrong and going nowhere) and found this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712439&page=3
this one had better results, but up until sensorcalibutil_yamaha. like some users on that forum, my result was:
fgets: Unknown error: 0
msmachdep_SaveGsOffset failed
calibration utilities failed
so, after following that forum, i found the solution, which was to delete ms3c_yamaha.cfg from /data/system and rerun. i navigated to that folder on my computer, and nothing. there was no system folder in the data folder. i allowed hidden folders to be visible and still nothing. i downloaded a root explorer app, searched for ms3c_yamaha.cfg and nothing popped up. i couldnt even find the folder it was telling me to look in. and this is where i am stuck.
i cant find ms3c_yamaha.cfg, nor the folder to look into, and i dont know what else to do...
perhaps i'm using the wrong root explorer, or perhaps that folder isnt even on the ROM i used. completely flashing the ROM would be my last resort, since i'm not too savvy on stuff like that, and it took forever for me to figure out how to even put Cog4.3 on my phone, so hopefully someone out there has some info.
thanks for your time
edit:
problem solved!
when i woke up this morning, on my way to work i started thinking about my problem, basically, why couldnt i find the system folder. i searched again in the market for a root explorer and found one that specifically stated "even allows access to the elusive system data folders". i bought the app right away, and immediately i was given access and found ms3c_yamaha.cfg and proceeded with the second solution. after running the calibration, it gave me an odd result, which made my screen rotate when held vertically. i reran the test, and ran the system calibrate (the 3 circles with the blue ball) and all was set. phone works perfectly now.
thanks for anyone who read this, and who was taking the time to find a solution
Hello.
Can you tell me what application explorer you are using?
I got the same problem as yours.

[Q] un-deletable 0kb files HELP !

Greetings from sunny ??? nottingham
I have a folder with a bunch of files that all show as 0kb that i can not remove.
Does anybody have an idea how i can get rid of these?
The story so far....
I am/was on rocket rom v2, previously i had put the google currents app on, but that was a couple of roms ago and i have not put it back.
I started having a few odd problems and realized my int sd was full. i eventually narrowed it down to a google currents folder. this was not so easy as any app that tried to scan the int sd in any way would crash or freeze. Even in manage apps it would only show details of apps from a to c any after that hung on 'computing'. i managed to delete over 5 gb from that folder, all except one folder.
Now i am left with a folder on the int sd inside the android/data folder called 'com.google.android.apps.currents' inside that is a folder 'cache' inside that a folder 'blobs.120.1184434912' inside that a folder thats a bunch of letters and numbers, inside that a folder 'att' and finally inside that a bunch of files all with single letters, numbers or symbols as there filename and all 0kb in size.
These remaining files and folders i can not get rid of.
I have tried....
Delete with root explorer and a couple of other file apps crash's or locks
Cut and paste elsewhere fail
Connect to computer and...
Delete fail
Move fail
Erase fail
Unlock freezes pc
Change permissions blocked
Re-name fail
Scanned with virus and spyware progs clean
Delete with dos fail
Factory reset fail
Factory reset with format usb crash's or locks
Flash a pit file in pc odin Still there
I wouldnt mind just leaving them there, but as i say any app that in any way scans the int sd crash's or freezes this makes the note almost un-useable.
I'm sure I've missed a few things i have tried but you get the point.
I have searched xda and the web as best i can and tried pretty much every idea I've come across.
Help !!!
Please !
What an odd problem....
have you tried aroma file manager?
Thanx p107r0
I havent tried that particular file manager, many others though.
Downloading it now, very busy next couple of days so will give it a go as soon as i can.

Cant you try copying all your important information off the sd then formatting it?

Unfortunatly i have formatted it several times now and those files still remain.
Are you familiar with adb tools? You could try using adb to delete the files.

Hi Postmonkeh
Unfortunatly abd is over my head, i wouldnt have a clue what i was doing.
Maybe i need to do some learning Do you know if theres a basic tutorial anywhere ?

It's fairly simple once you get the hang of it, but i don't know any guides off the top of my head.
Not on my laptop at the minute but once I'm downstairs I'll give you a quick run through of what to do to delete that folder. Might not work, but then again it might

Hey mate thank you very much.
Please dont rush as i am just leaving and will be away for a couple of days. I will get onto it as soon as i return.

it won't let you rename or delete because they reside on googles servers, that's why they are showing 0kb. u can't change permission because it's on sd card and w don't have the ability to do so on sd card. i promise a format got rid of them but u didn't notice it because google cache server put links back as your phone started. the explorer crashes because as fast as is trying to remove them the server is already putting them back. basically what im trying to say is just ignore them cause there not really there anyways.

as above, these files seem to be causing problems.
my google currents folder has a lot of these folders, but none of the files are empty.
although having said that, it may be an idea to deselect the option to have google back up your app data.
i'd also maybe try installing the currents app then (if you can) go into the app settings and clear the data.

that thread gives a good guide to getting adb installed, and gives a good grounding of what it can do. it's a bit more in depth than what you need though, all you need is to install it, add the path to the environment vaiables as described in that thread (that is an optional step but it makes things much easier)
the path you'll be looking for is /mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.apps.currents
be sure to remember that the case of the letters in the linux (and therefore android) file systems is vital - ie mnt/sdcard/Android is an entirely different folder than mnt/sdcard/android.
so basically once you've your note connected (with the screen unlocked) open a command line and type (minus the quotes) "adb devices"
it should (hopefully) list your note in there.
then type these commands in order, being careful to observe the correct case when typing filenames or folder names.
adb shell
rm -r /mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.apps.currents
it could take a while if there are a lot of files. once it's finished, you should be back to a line with a flashing cursor, then just type exit and it should take you back to your standard windows command line.
i would try taking off the "back up my settings to googles servers) and installing currents and wiping the data first though.
OK time for an update.....
Aroma file manager same as all the others, it either freezes or crash's out altogether.
I have already deselected back up to google, no effect.
I have already tried re-loading google currents and populating it with fresh downloads. Then clear data and un-install, no effect.
Finally took me a while to get adb set up and working, but............
wait for it............................................................................
No effect !!
It starts the process, and scrolls info very fast. I left it for about 20 mins and it was still going. eventually i clicked on the window and it said something along the lines of no such file or directory then endlessly scrolls att.
I appreciate the suggestions given, but i do hope there are some more.
I am completely lost with this now.

Seems kind of similar to problems I used to have in the good old Palm OS days, sometimes due to some app errors 0b files would appear on SD card, and - to make long story short - the only thing that would help was taking the card out and formatting it on the computer.
Maybe flashing with repartitioning could help?

If you cannot delete the folder with del or erase command in dos I think you have a bad block there. In this case you have to leave this folder alone.
Hi, thanx for the further suggestions
tknguyencsu leaving alone is not a good idea as it does affect how the note works. Anything that scans the int sd freezes or crash's out when it gets to that folder. for instance if i go to manage applications it will only give me detailed info on apps from A to C any after that it wont display the size of data etc, just stays on 'computing'. so i really need to get rid of this folder.
p107r0 Any idea how i try your suggestion of 'flashing with repartitioning' ?
I have done several full wipes inc usb storage, i have formatted usb storage from recovery several times also.
There are a couple of options in recovery i have not tried because i dont know what they really mean and so im a little scared to try with all the bricking thats been going on.

Lots of reading to be safe, but afair there is Dr ketan's guide on flashing LBF with repartitioning, which should be theoretically safe when performed from/over GB ROM. I'll look for the link later.
Here.
P.S. There's also app by chainfire which checks if your device is prone to superbrick: Got Brickbug

Thanx p107r0 i've had a quick look/search in that thread. Not much detail about re-partitioning, i am now assuming it is connected with pit file ?
If that is correct then i have tried that and unfortunatly it did not help.

Are you still on the same ROM? Maybe formatting int sd from other one would do the trick?
Hi p107r0
Yes i am on the same rom, but now a later version.
I am using Rocket Rom. the problem first came to light after upgrading from v1 to v2. since then i have been back to GB to RR v1, RR v2 and am now on RR v3.
I am out of time tonight, and on the road all day tomorrow, so will try a completely different rom as soon as i can.

[Q] Deleted root folder (/, not /sdcard)

Update 2:
So now I can see most of the files with ES, but OI file manager isn't seeing them. What the heck is going on? Ghost files?
Alright, so I'm in a bit of a pickle.
I was having problems with Rdio and wanted to wipe all traces of it from my phone to install an older version. Using ES File Explorer, I searched for all the files related to the app in "/" and once I found them, I foolishly used select all and delete. Problem is, it seems "select all" actually selected all the folders in / and not only those found using the search function.
The odd part is I can see all the folders in / when I use OI file manager (though some are empty, namely /data and /datadata), but not when I use ES.
Does anybody have an idea as to what I can do? Odd thing is the phone is working fine and not all files on it have been deleted (the files inside EFS seem to have been though, but I still have signal). I'm afraid to reboot it since I figure it might become bricked. I've got a recent Nandroid backup which wasn't deleted, so I'll be fine if I can get to recovery, but is there any chance of that not happening?
Anyways, I'm feeling really dumb and stressed out.
Thanks for looking and/or helping!
Cheers!
Update
Making a call seems to have restored the files (.bak and others) in the efs folder and some other files seem to be reappearing. Maybe if I just wait it out all the files will come back from the dead? Files that weren't showing 10 minutes ago are back and are dated earlier than today.
Again, I'm mainly looking to know if I can reboot into recovery (or normally?) without many problems.
Thanks!

[Q] All files are gone!

Hey guys, big problem here.
I was backing up, preparing for the 4.3 upgrade. I was cleaning some files off the storage using my pc, including the weird storage folder that only contained (more) titanium backup stuff.
Well, next thing I know, my phone doesn't see any of my files anymore. They're not there on PC now either, and no root-enabled file manager can see anything. However, 9gb of space is still being used by "other"!
Please help!
If it helps, I think I broke the symbolic links. Any solution? Or have I screwed this?
There might be an adb pull command to grab all files in /media. However I don't know the full syntax. Google adb pull sd card and you should hopefully find the correct command. You might have to play with the path a bit to get it right. It's something like /data/media/ on the One.
I'm not close to a pc so can't see what it should be.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
No luck. After major research online, the files are gone - I'd have to use recovery software after performing a very long backup in order to retrieve, and there wasn't that much that I lost since the last backup, a few photos just.
More a pain in the ass really. I never would have thought that those directories could do that. Kinda dangerous.
(accidental double post)

Please help me downgrade from 4.4.2/Sense 5.5 to 4.3/Sense 5

I'm sorry in advance for asking. I know there have been a lot of people asking/not using search. I tried to search and didn't find anything directly answering my question. Maybe I don't know how to properly use the search.
Anyway, I would like to know only how to go about downgrading from 4.4.2/Sense 5.5 back to 4.3/Sense 5.
I S-offed, then used a method that had me relock, but that didn't seem to work.
Is there even a way?
I just need to know the steps and where I can download what I need to do it properly.
Thank you in advance, and once again, I'm sorry.

Easy on the double posting mate (that really doesnt help anybody, especially you... you'll just end up with different answers on different threads)
1- you want complete stock? or custom ROM?
2- with S-Off, (re)locking is completely USELESS (and not recommended)
3- DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT GOING S-ON
4- if you want complete stock, check my guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541082 you'll downgrade to 1.xx and can receive updates to 3.xx (Android 4.3) then stop taking the OTA to 4.xx (Android 4.4.2)
Thank you for the reply.
Ya, I just want to go back to stock.
Did I mess up by relocking the phone? It says RELOCKED and not TAMPERED, thankfully.
How would I go about unlocking again?

well not really a big deal (as long as you stay s-off !!!),
but
Q1: do you care whether bootloader is LOCKED / UNLOCKED or RELOCKED?
Q2: can you head over to my thread and post a "fastboot getvar all" (excluding IMEI and s/n) so i link the files you'll need
I don't really care if it's locked or w/e, but just to make it look nice I could do with it saying locked again.
It appears I actually never did get s-off. It's s-on right now.

You, sir, are awesome. Thank you so much.
Your guide was great.
After all is said and done, I'm back where I want to be. There's only one weird issue that I can tell right now.
The gallery used to find all of the image folders on the entire phone, but now only finds the ones in the main directory. It doesn't see any of them that are deeper than one folder.
Example: I have a folder called Media that has a folder called Images in it, and several folders in that one sorted into different categories. Before this mess happened, Gallery found all of those folders and I could uncheck the ones I wanted hidden, but now it only sees the Media folder. I had to copy all of the other folders to the main directory for any of them to be seen.
Any suggestion of what may be causing it or a solution to resolve it?

1- can you see the folders on your PC (when connected through MTP)?
2- I'm assuming you already checked which folders Gallery should show/hide
3- you're sure they're in /data/media/0 (=sdcard on 4.2.2+) as opposed to /data/media (=sdcard on 4.1.2)
4- check if there is a file called ".nomedia" in those folders, if yes delete it.
5- use a file explorer on your phone (such as ES File Explorer) to browse the directory (in settings make sure to "show hidden files"), and see if anything is out of the ordinary
6- maybe try clearing Settings -> Apps -> All -> Gallery -> "Clear Data" & "Clear Cache" to let it rebuild the database

Yup. They all show up in ES like they normally would.
I DID however just discover that my music seems to be doing it too. I just downloaded a song on my phone and placed into my Media>Music>Artist Name folder and in the stock music player when I navigate to Folders I can choose the Media folder where all of the music is, but there are no sorted folders in there as I actually have them, only all of the songs. It used to show each folder.
So... I'm not sure what the problem would be. It only happened after I Unlocked/S-off/Root. I am running stock rom though. The last update for 4.3/Sense 5.
Kind of irritating really. I would like to fix it if it's possible.
REALLY don't want to have to factory reset again. Takes me FOREVER to get everything set back up again. lol

Just for the sake of testing, why not make a new folder called "GuessImTesting" (or whatever you like), then copy/paste some pics into that, and see if they show up in gallery.... maybe "Media" folder is ignored by Gallery by default.
Actually, Media comes up in Gallery, just with no folders and only files, just like I noticed with the music app when dealing with folders now too.

did you try copying some pics to some other folder? and see if that shows up?
I took my Images folder out of Media and put it into the main directory where the main Images folder is and everything worked like it should. It saw all of the folders in it and everything. Maybe there's something wrong with my Media folder? All I did was copy it from my backup drive like I always did.
