Had a problem with recovery going missing when i updated to 4.3, decided to downgrade back to 4.2 rom 534 and after the downgrade my IMEI reads a series of 0's obviously can't make any phone calls and have no signal at all.
Have tried to get the EE branded ftf but it wouldn't download, I didn't want to get another branded one so i went with an unlocked one, still can't get the EE ftf so can't revert back to my official branded rom, still haven't got recovery and by using an ftf i've lost root, so i'm kind of back to square one but with no imei lol, ahhh if i didn't laugh i'd cry.
Any ideas how to get it back up and running?
Cheers.
This may help i havent tried it myself as thats one of the few problems that my crappy Z1 haven't got .

Only just got home but i've sorted it now, basically i wasn't able to get the EE branded ftf from XDA as the link was down so i got the tmobile one as it's pretty much the closest one there is in the list.
Flashed that with flash tool and it came back, obviously lost root, so i've re rooted and now i'm upgrading all over again.
Will be staying on 4.2 until i've got a whole day to mess about with things, 4.3 isn't for me yet, at least until root is 100%
Cheers for the help all the same.
Problems occur if 4.3 is flashed using flashtool.
I solved it by reinstalling the software using SUS then flashing 4.2

Just grab the closest rom you initially started with and flash with flashtool, that's pretty much all i did.
Then root.
Install clock work mod or TWRP.
Then flash a rom from the development section like monx.

I assume you didn't understand what I mean, while using android 4.3, flash for the previous firmware 257 (the unrootable android 4.2) and then flash 534 (the rootable android 4.2) then root and OTA to 257 again, then from 257, if you get OTA to 4.3 then go for it, if you don't have OTA to 4.3, you'll have to wait.

Just one leap back to the earliest rom is all thats needed to get your imei back, obviously not the easiest way but probably the safest.

If you flash from 290 to 534 you will loose IMEI and service provider signal, if you flash back 290 you will get them back. so to prevent loosing IMEI and service provider signal, flash 257 then 534.

Jeez i'll say again.
I downloaded the T-mobile FTF file as it was the closest to my EE phone when i got it, i was on 290 and without my IMEI, i flashed the FTF file via flashtool which is a 534FTF and my IMEI come back as soon as the phone came on, i was able to root and upgrade to monx's rom.
So what you're saying is untrue, if you pick the wrong FTF file then that may cause the IMEI to be lost again or not come back at all, but if you pick the one as i said before which corresponds with your phones original network or the closest thing to it then the imei will come back I know this as I did this a few days ago, i'm not going to argue about this and i'm not going to respond to anything else on this matter.
If theres another way to do it then fair enough, all I know is that doing it this way worked.
The imei gets lost if you wipe data when you are on 290 and flash 534 using flashtool

And if you don't wipe data you get stuck in a bootloop. (I tried it)

Your phone can be Simlocked to a network, but it cannot be locked to 4.3 rom only,
Flash the correct Country/Network FTF .534 version, using Flashtool Latest version 0.9.13.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469191
http://www.flashtool.net/download.php
then Root using VRoot app, then install SuperSU from Playstore, (I've got the paid version so I can enable OTA Survival mode to maintain root)
then OTA Update to .257, you should than have a rooted .257 rom.
regards

Flash back to 290 (Android 4.3), then flash the 257 (Android 4.2 → not rootable), then flash the 534 (Android 4.2 → rootable), root and OTA to 257.

You have to downgrade first to .257 and than to .534 and your IMEI will be preserved.
For those who have C6903 there is a .534 rom from [NUT] which does not present with the issue: http://nut.xperia-files.com/download.php?dlid=QzY5MDNfMTQuMS5HLjEuNTM0X1tOVVRdLmZ0Zg==
This has been mentioned a few times before, please research more next time
flashed 257 and then 534 and everything's fine now. Thanks a ton mate.
My phone has OS 290 need to downgrade to 257 to root but the file doesn't show up in flashtool i downgraded to 534 before but lost IMEI so went back to 290
Follow NUT's thread in Android Development section in order to root your Z1.

Even I am facing this issue. The flashtool does not seem to recognize .257 at all. Not sure on the reason.
Gurus - Any idea on why the flash tool is not recognizing .257?
@livelyyoungman, @ryanraven Use the FTF .534 provided by NUT to avoid IMEI lost, then follow the instructions to upgrade to .290. Read carefully the thread.
Even I had lost the IMEI when I flashed wrong firmwares 534 rom.
you need to flash .534 based on your firmware c6902 or c6903 or whatever it is. Root your phone and then use nut tutorial to upgrade and keep the root.
Losing IMEI is not even a problem at all because when you will update to .290 or .136 it will be back so do not be worry about it.

I flashed the correct firmware. The one I used was C6902_14.1.G.1.534_Generic IN firmware that I downloaded from the link provided in this forum (MEGA link). Excluded "Baseband" as well. Still IMEI went missing

I was not worried on this, as I did read about the issues on downgrading and was fully aware that by flashing to the latest version I would be getting back the IMEI.
Now I have successfully downgraded to .534 as well - just flashed first the global .257 and then the generic IN version of .534. All is well now. Was able to root the phone as well. But now I am facing camera issues; may be a visit to the service center is what seems looming @ large.:crying:

No I have not yet unlocked the BL. But I find the following issues when using the camera:
1. "Camera Not Available" message appears sometimes. It does disappear but upon taking photos after this message a BLUE hue is visible at the bottom of all the pictures I shoot. Only a reset restores the camera function properly.
2. The phone keeps rebooting at least once every day.
I was reading few of the other posts and find that these two could be related to HW malfunction. Hence wanted to visit the service center to figure out the process for replacing the phone. I have already visited the service guys early last week for these two issues. They flashed my mobile once again and returned back to me for checking. :crying:
A factry reset in needed after update. If you are not on latest FW then update.

I'm with bell Canada and upgraded to 4.4 via pcc. It's quite buggy phone is generally slow and chrome and messaging. App force closes often
It seem to have worked fine for a day or 2 when I upgraded
Can i go back and load the generic or bell 4.3 ftf? Will I brick the Z1?

I also have a bell Xperia Z1, a first advice is to use generic firmwares, the bell ones are full of bloatware.
And there is no need to Wipe Data. As long as i know, if you have a rooted 4.4 you will need to make a restore through PCC first to an unrooted FW (some broke their devices when flashing a generic FW over a rooted one) then flash either a .136 or .290 unbranded/generic firmware for 6906.
If you decide to go back to 4.2.2, you will need to do it in 2steps to not loose your IMEI, flash to .136 or .290 first, then flash 4.2.2.
In other words, you have 2 choices :
1- Downgrade from KK to 290 then to 257, then from 257 to 534
2- When downgrading from 290 to 534, exclude "Baseband" in Flashtool and you'll be good to go.
I
