Tipping the hat - Sprint HTC One (M7)

This is just a general opinion and farewell.
I wasn't here long so most of you won't remember me. I used to go by "tsdeaton" but had the name changed.
Last month on the 8th I was given the G2 from the company. I was super excited because the overall specs of the device is amazing! It took a bit to get used to. But.. I miss my HTC one. The design is a lot better. The audio was by far the best of any phone. And loved how the speakers faced forward. This phone put all the best ideas into one phone. Nothing was left behind.
If any of you are debating switching to the G2 then seriously think about it first. The HTC one is probably the best android phone to come out to date. Not because of the specs. But the overall device. The spec gain from the G2 isn't significant enough to make that big of leap. The 800 chip is amazing and I have noticed it loads things a bit quicker but the overall use of either device is the same.
Btw LG has had bad phones in the past and very terrible smartphone history but this device does make up for it. Stock its boring. Unlike sense 5.0. Once rooted its a beast. Its true colors show. Don't let LGs past smartphone experience effect your choice. Its built and operates a million times better than the galaxy s4.
Anyways, goodbye
PS: don't chose the s4 over either of these 2 devices. Feels like cheap plastic and has about as many hardware defects as the s2.

Is it unlikely the Nexus One will be overtaken soon?

As I said in another thread, I am probably going to sell my Desire and get an N1.
But I am wary of buying a 6 month old phone - especially with the rate android is moving forward at.
My question is - will the N1 be surpasses anytime soon with another google phone?
I know there are other phones out their with better specs (eg EVO) but I am talking about a real google phone, like the N1, which gets updates straight from google without anyone in between getting in the way.
It's probably a stupid question asking seeing as no one knows what companies are planning, but I guess I'm just looking for someone to convince me to take the plunge!
my guess is that the nexus one wil lbe the flagship phone, google's phone, for a full year. so look until january before a replacement comes along. even though the incredible and evo are here, the nexus one remains the developer phone. and i dont think that is going to change until january. just my opinion.
there is no doubt that eventually the N1 will be surpassed. I love my Nexus One, but one of the MAIN reasons I got the N1 was because I was gambling that Google would treat it like its own personal baby. Favoriting it, giving updates sooner then the rest of the phones, and hopefulness that because it was their baby they would suite Android to work around the Nexus One, ie. If 2.2 did not work on the Nexus One, they would have MADE it until it worked on the Nexus One.

To OP:
You're not buying a computer that "will not be surpassed", right? Because you know that new technology is out on a monthly basis.
So why do you expect anything different in a smartphone that is essentially nothing else but a mini computer?
Yes, in a year or maybe even 1/2 year you'll no longer be on par with the top dogs, and in 3 years your phone might probably be scrapped. So? That's how things work.. They develop.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Well as all I am looking for is a phone direct from google, then it is quite reasonable to expect it not to be surpassed each month.
I don't really care if a better android phone comes out, I will only have buyers remorse if a Nexus Two came out soon, but I suppose when that happens is anyones guess.
The guesses that are currently out say that there's no other Google phone planned for this year (at least), so if you want to buy Nexus because you want Google's Android Development Phone platform - you can count of trouble-free 1/2-year.
(but at the end of the year 1.3GHz phones might appear, and the next year can bring dual cores... So if you want to stay in the top pack, I guess 1 year is the phone's lifespan).
Am I the only one that isn't completely wowed by the Evo?
The front facing camera is nice, but there isn't a lot of software support and I can't see myself using it much. My laptop has a web cam built in, and I don't know if I have ever used it. None of the people I would be talking to would have a camera on their phone anyway.
The screen is nice and big, but the resolution is still the standard 800x480 so it's not displaying any more on screen than the N1, Desire, Incredible. Plus processor isn't any better. 4G is great, but availability is obviously limited.
I just don't think it's the huge improvement over the Desire and Incredible that everyone seems to believe. Plus the more I use Sense UI, the less I like it.
The way I see it is you need to look at 2 things in regards to these types of phones... the hardware... and the availability of updates to the software...
Hardware wise, The Nexus is completely sufficient. 1ghz processor, 512mb of RAM, a great camera, a nice AMOLED screen, and a very durable build quality...
Software wise, it's vanilla Android and is first in line for updates from google... All the competing phones have that (sense, blur) crap built-in that severely hinders the release process of updates ... they will ALWAYS get updates later than any phones with vanilla Android...
If you get an EVO or an Incredible or whatever else comes out in a few months... you will gain a few minor things as far as hardware spec differences, unless u want an over sized bulging screen in your pocket. The camera? Who cares it's a friggin' phone... 5mp is PLENTY. You already have to optimize even 5mp as a standard to even send as MMS. Anything over 1ghz is pretty much overkill for android in its current phase... it's a phone... it runs fast as hell it doesn't need a dual-core processor geeze.
I dunno... I really think the nexus is still the best bet people who want a touch-based phone and always want to be on the bleeding edge of android os developments.
Have to say, you have a Desire, which is essentially the Nexus One with a different skin, why look at the Nexus? I get your main point, the N1 already has Froyo, everyone else is waiting, but Froyo is being ported to the Desire as we speak. If you know a bit about modding and don't mind being a month or two behind, save some money and let the devs cook up a Froyo rom, and be assured that whatever comes out for the N1 will make it to the Desire. Hell, if the Dream and Magic can handle Eclair, anything is possible.
Side note, I have an N1 and installed Froyo, really liked it but went back to Cyanogen's 5.0.7. Many other N1 users have done the same. Once you get used to a custom rom, its hard to do without many of the bells and whistles you're used to, so I don't mind sitting and waiting for a customized Froyo.

A few reasons really:
1. I now really dislike sense.
2. HTC have gone to unnecessary lengths to prevent root access. We don't have a full root yet and we may never have it. Also they're are over 60 people who have bricked their desire and the cause is not known, this is slowing development.
3. I don't want it to end up like the hero, that was their last flagship device and its still on 1.6 for most people.
4. Fast updates - always good.
I'd just like to have vanilla android without having to risk bricking my phone really.

i've used Sense so much and i totally hate it as well. i'm so much happier with my nexus vanilla android experience. i do get why some people like sense, but for me personally, i dont like it.
In my opinion, the closest phone to 'overtake' the N1 will be the Samsung Galaxy S. The triangles that thing can push out is supposed to be very impressive. Other phones, to me, come down to preference (Evo for screen size and network, Desire for Sense). The N1 will probably be the first phone to get Gingerbread and even the update after that at least.
We'll see 1ghz phones become more common before a bump in processor speed happens, I feel. The N1's a nice phone and worth the money.

you are not alone. the EVO just doesnt wow me either. when 1.5gHz phones come out, then maybe i'll ditch the nexus. but the current hardware (evo and incredible) are so similar to the nexus, they are all cousins and in the same league. nexus gets the newest updates and has best build quality, so some would say its actually the better of the 3.
If you haven't bought one by now, I would hold off. Expect HTC leaks to start up again for their new lineup for next year.
It also depends on how you plan to use the phone.
I am not too worried about cpu muscle. Everything I do on the N1 happens pretty much instantly. That a more potent cpu might load something faster as can be measured by testing equipment doesnt matter to me. Now if those new dual cores bring optimizations to improve battery life that might catch my eye but brute stength, nah. I really dont see what the evo or incredible bring to the table for me outside of the larger screen on the evo. Even there I recently handled an X10 and to my mind that is about the perfect screen size, I find the evo just a wee bit clunky in the hand. To be honest there is no announced handset in the works that even slightly peaks my interest. I'm guessing there will be nothing that catches my eye until the hollidays at the earliest. Personally I was hoping that the N2 (following in the fully unlocked steps of the N1) might be seeing the light of day around then.
edit.... I'm basing my feelings on the size of the evo on handling the HD2, I have not had an evo in hand.

I agree, some people are too obsessed with benchmarks imo. The phone does everything you want pretty much instantly, and there's not many processor intensive apps for android anyway.
evo is great except:
1) sprint only
2) contract only
What would make it better than the nexus:
1) simple way to root.
2) runs standard Cyanogen or AOSP, no proprietary stuff like sense.
3) supports GSM
I waited three years before jumping in, loved android right from when it was announced. The Nexus one pretty much has no challengers for the throne yet. A true open phone.
Take it with a grain of salt, but when I went to a local TMo store to get a SIM for my wife's new N1, I was asking about when they think they might be getting the N1 in (seeing as there's already some 3rd party places selling the N1).
I was told they probably won't be getting a google phone in until the Nexus TWO, sometime in November of THIS year.
My take on it is this; If it's something you want, get it now and enjoy it. There is ALWAYS something better, faster, sleeker and that will cost less coming right around the corner.
If the N1 had a touch screen that wasn't so terrible I'd really want for nothing. Maybe some better battery life..
If you're talking about a straight Google phone unlocked, then yes, one will be out this year. Earlier in the year, someone high up in Motorola announced they were working with Google to create a straight-to-consumer phone. I assume this will be the Nexus Two. I'll look for links to it and reply with them.
A quick Google search for "Motorola straight to consumer phone" and you come up with exactly what I was talking about. First link here:

[Q] Is Nexus One still worth buying?

I have a chance to buy a new Nexus One. I already have a Motorola Atrix 4G. I had wanted a Nexus One when it first appeared about two years ago. Is it worth buying it now for $180? What do you think guys?
I've had mine since it first came out and through the barrage of phones that have emerged since my purchase, it's been hard to give up. Not a bad deal for an N1 in my opinion.
I'll think about jumping when the quad core phones come out though.
After two years my Nexus One works flawlessly and is one of the best phone I've ever operated and it still have support here. So if you want to give it a try, well then go ahead pal....
Excellent and versatile phone
Biggest flaw--touchscreen and maybe signal strength. Although that may depend on area and/or may be inherent in smartphones.
Reason it is not outdated is that I am now running a VERY stable Ice Cream Sandwich rom. ICS is not on very many phones yet and this granddad of a phone is capable of running it. Must be rooted though to get full benefits of ICS IMHO.
Ken
No, for $180 I'd get (after careful selection) MyTouch 4G. Actually I did, but more than 1/2 year ago, and for $250. Nexus doesn't come close in any parameter besides glowing multi-color trackball. And I'm not talking benchmarks, but usability, ROM selection and quality. MT4G has fully functional CM7 and MIUI, just like Nexus, but unlike Nexus it's highly overclockable, has a barrage of latest and fully functional Sense 3.0 and 3.5 ROMs, will most probably receive Sense 4.0 ROM when it gets out, and has ICS in at least as good a state as N1. All that while being approximately the same size, 4 times more powerful GPU and a bit more powerful CPU, front cam, stronger speaker, no power button issues and no screen issues (well, it has other type of issues, ones that make you need to select the specimen carefully).
My honest opinion. I had Nexus One for over a year, and I knew when I drew the line and said that I'd like something else, and by my wife's experience too. She's now perfectly happy with Desire S, MT4G's almost-twin brother.
My 2 cents
If you can find one for $150 or less, yes, it's still an amazing phone! This phone hasn't had any issues for me since I bought it and I bought it when it first came out. I've yet to find a phone that runs so smoothly, can handle so many upgrades and has an amazing camera. There's no reason to get rid of this phone yet. The gorilla glass is amazing! I literally have screen cracks throughout my glass and the touch screen still works great and the glass doesn't fall apart.
Still Upgradable
Amazing Camera/Camcorder (720p w/kernel)
Doesn't Lag
Touchscreen is so so when playing some games
All in all it's a phone that's still hard to beat.
You put Kang-o-Rama on it with the kgpneok kernel and you won't need to upgrade your phone for a while.
The only worthy update to this phone right now is the Galaxy Nexus but even then, you're sacrificing an awesome camera for a crappy samsung one. (the galaxy nexus and galaxy s have horrid camera's compared to the N1)
If you want a more powerful phone I would say to go with the HTC Amaze. Same specs as the Galaxy S2 but a MUCH better camera (one of the best) although only a 4.3 inch screen compared to the bigger s2 screen but 4.3 should be the limit on cell phone screens anyways.
Also if you plan on modding it, HTC phones are better to Mod than samsung phones.
Had mine for two years and still not swapping for another one.
Running ICS and if CM9 is nearly as good as CM7 i see no point in changing phones.
Besides that it can stand some beating, the N1. I dont know how many times I've dropped mine without inflicting it any damage.
yeah...it's worth buying with all the support you can get here but cranky touchscreen is a pain!
I've had a G1 and N1 best phones in my opinion but you should get a Gnex $180 is too much

I bought the N1 on release day, a great phone. But T-Mobile coverage left a lot to be desired, traveling I was on 2g more often than not.
When I replaced it with a Rezound at Amazon's $.01 black Friday sale, I thought that I would put it up for sale. But I couldn't bring myself to do it, so I've re-purposed it as a media center remote with VOIP.
$180 seems a little steep.
I had mine since it came out, It's great phone except my power bottom died but with CM rom i use trackball to do all the job. I also got NS and now waiting for GN. I think You'll be better off with Galaxy Nexus since it has dual care which will be useful for future apps.

Definitely not. I just got a Sensation for $200, the touch screen problems and the lack of app storage make it an irritating phone to own. I should know since I just replaced it.

Thoughts on 2X and your next phone?

The phones over a year old now. I only picked mine up used almost half a year ago for 200 USD. The phone's price really plummeted in just over half a year didn't it? Even now it hasn't dropped further as it hit its rock bottom way back then. High end phones that are older and with less specs cost the same as this as its really unpopular. An example being the Galaxy S.
So in a way its a pretty unsuccessful phone. Reasons? Software support has been terrible, suffering from radio issues. The stock firmware was appalling for a long time. Then the announcement ICS wasn't coming which soon after you saw the price hitting rock bottom. Leading to LG to counter its previous comment and proceed with ICS. Which it probably had no plans to before the backlash. Since the update was due rather late and has since been delayed a quarter.
Hardware wise its not bad. But still outdone by S2's larger screen, double ram and better camera.
All said i'm extremely happy with my first Android especially considering what I paid. But only with the developer support providing the best solutions. If I were a stock user i'd be sorely disappointed, only feeling better for the price.
In terms of my next phone, I want a larger screen 4.7ish but not pocket busting like the note. A better camera but equal to 2X is fine. More RAM because Opera Mobile keeps shutting down when I multitask out for a second, even with an extra 48mb ram hack. Amoled would be nice but not necessary, mainly for its benefits if its sunlight legibility is good. HD is unnecessary in my opinion.
As it stands I probably won't be upgrading for awhile until the likes of the S3 gets cheap. Except its design looks unprofessional. Optimus 4X anyone? :-D They couldn't make the same mistakes again right? Right?

I will only be upgrading to nexus devices from now on, because of this phone has made me realise I hate manufacturer skins and that I want the latest updates all the time.

i am happy with the phone. the only complaints are the screen outdors and the camera (well not the camera itself but the plastic cover that ruins the quality).
i dont even dare thinking about a new phone but seeing how fast the market moves today's pick will be outdated in 2 weeks.

some people arent that rich to change expensive phones every 12 months.
My next device will be WITH a good battery, a SD card slot (dumb htc with their one series..almost made them perfect), a good camera (likes of SGS3 or more likely htc one x), and an ARM cortex-a15 based cpu (or krait). and quite importantly, a wolfson micro sound chip (also supported by supercurio ) i dont want screens as large as 4,7 inches though
oh, and i hope it will be a nexus...i want good updates... fuuuu LG
this would be a freaking dream phone. but i aint buying anything until the 2x gives up on me, i still really like it
So far i had 2 android phones with the optimus being my second one. I have noticed that all those "specs" do not matter. What matters is a good software. Therefore i would move to a nexus devices when my optimus gets completely destroyed or really useless. No need to keep throwing money on phones if they cannot completely replace my laptop.
I will go for a SGS2 or 3 or a Nexus.
Hopefully soon. Tired of all the probs with my LGOS
currently, my o2x running temasek kang, it give me what i want to do
still waiting for the stable cm9, then will use it about a year
my next phone maybe the galaxy s4
I think I'm buying a S3 or nexus. And what Arkara said, I agree that specs don't matter as much as the software support.
Seeing as the S2 a friend of my has, still running stock since launch and no factory resets: Smooth as hell, fast and long battery. Galaxy Nexus is also stable.
Maybe my phone has a bad chip or something like that but the FD issues are to much and the battery life is overall the same for me no matter the BB or RIL. No more Tegra for me.

Nexus seems like the popular choice among us. I think specs matter still otherwise you wouldn't be after a high end phone. I personally have grown accustomed to CM's flexibility and features so i'm not really after software support. Except as we know in our 2X case it lacks drivers for us to update to.
Of course a stable good software release is important, afterall custom ROM users are a minor aspect in comparison to sales. But in the S3's case Samsung are trying to differentiate and add value through the software extras. That's great for most but if your not using it you're paying for nothing.
At least the idea behind the S2 was hardware and just the right software to make it run. This time around Samsung are making moves inspired by their biggest rival in their eyes, Apple. They like to poke fun and criticise Apple but they would prefer nothing more than to be them. The design, the marketing and the software are all in their footsteps.
What do 2X users here think of the iPhone anyway? I think it's like our polar opposite in the high end. The super expensive overrated and over hyped hardware with good closed software popular phone compared to the piss cheap higher spec phone with miserable software and success.

Well, they sure as hell have a long way to go as far as design goes. Pretty much all android phones do. They are butt ugly. The Optimus 2x is actually one of the prettier ones imo! The Galaxy S2 for instance is a design disaster.
I'm not a fan of the iOS, though. When I use it, on my Ipod Touch, I get the feeling that I am being treated like an idiot.
I will have a close look at the ASUS Padfone.
If it only had a 720p screen, I would have bought it.
When the Rumors about 5 new Nexus devices for Jelly Bean come true I hope ASUS makes one of the phones. I love their build quality and design. They also are the fastest when it comes to updates and patches.
I also think that the Optimus 2X is among the prettiest phones. This was the reason I picked it instead of the Galaxy SII (the price was similar at launch).
With CM7.2 UNOFFICIAL (I also use temaseks build) the phone is very good and I get a good battery life lately since I turn my phone off and back on right aufter I unplug it from the charger in the mornings. The only thing I don't like is the Battery life when I use it a lot for webbrowsing and games.
My next Phone will have a 720p display, a bigger battery and more RAM.
SD Card slot, swappable battery are things I would very much miss if they were not available on my next phone. Optimus 4X maybe, Huawei D Quad maybe, Jelly Bean Nexus possibly or the Padfone?
I´m tired of the 2x....
...because of the politics from LG.
The stects of that phone were really good, but as it was said before: Good software ist more worth than good hardware.
I think my next Phone will be the next SGS or a Nexus.
What i need:
SD-Card
huge RAM
720p Display
LTE
NFC
good Cam

i was thinking about buying the htc one m8 but the lg g3 look like a great device. My main concern is that i haven't owned an LG phone in a very long time. The last one i owned was junk but granted it was before smartphones. What is everyone's opinion of their build quality and the phone as a whole? i know the lg g2 and g3 are different but just looking for some opinions. Another concern is the dev support for the g2 looks to be slim.
I had a older LG phone (LUCID orignial). IMO LG went from making a Kia to Ferraris in terms of quality.

Thats what i was thinking. The lg g3 look amazing just hope the gorgeous screen isnt too bad of a battery drain. My wifes cousin purchased a G2 the other day. Messing around with her phone the other day is what got me interested in the G3. Thanks for the reply
I came from a Sammy phone and I'll never go back. Build is excellent, phone is powerful and excellent on battery. I believe the g3 has a bigger battery (but I could wrong, don't quote me on that). I'd recommend it.

LG has a history of excellent phones... the VX8700 and enV had some of the best usable signal reception of any phone ever made back in the day, all other phones were compared to them for signal performance. Although prior to the Nexus 4, it could be arguably said that LG stumbled in the mobile phone realm for a while, they really turned it around the last couple of years.
They have made lots of phones, way more than most people realize, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LG_mobile_phones
Personally I think the G2 is one of the best phone I have ever owned, and I have never had one that in a normal day of use still has over 70% battery remaining. My work phone is a G2 and my person phone is a Nexus 4... I wouldn't hesitate to recommend LG to anyone.
I believe yoou'd do well with a G2. I just bought a used on, coming from an S4. Battery life is great. Never went 3 days for a charge. But im going back to an S4(just bought another one). I cant get used to the feel of the G2. The sides are more rounded and slippy, and the placement of the volume on the back just doesnt work for me. But, overall if the G2 fits you well, its a great phone.
Hands down the best phone I've owned. This thing just keeps impressing me. For once I'm not jaded that I'll be using the same phone for a long while.

Great to hear!!!! I have decided to wait for the LG g3 instead of getting the htc m8. I want a nexus but i think the LG g3 will be like a nexus but with some added bonus features. Thanks for the replys
I'll weigh in here. I think the volume/power placement is an area you should make sure you're OK with. LG makes it a bit easier with knock knock, but I find changing tracks when listening to music while the phone is in my pocket really annoying (if rooted). I have to find the camera and then feel my way to the buttons, and it's just more difficult than side buttons. Build quality is pretty good, call reception is a little less than my older S4. The data hand offs in low signal areas are OK, but just not as good as the s4 was, and this is the exact same area I'm referring to. However, the g2 is essentially lag free, and I'm willing to bet both the g3 and m8 are as well. Also, I think the g3 will have an sd card slot, but correct me if I'm wrong. Honestly can't go wrong with either of those two phones. I'd personally probably snag the m8 for the build feel of that aluminum, but I'm in no hurry to change. I do like my g2, but it is definitely "different" feeling.

I think i will like the rear button placement. Hope the reception isnt worse than the samsung devices that i have owned. samsung always seem to have lower reception than any other OEM. the design of the g3 just looks great. yes g3 does have an sd card slot.

I agree about reception. I had an s3 (pretty bad radio), a note 2 (decent), and an s4 before the g2. The g2 rarely drops calls, I've just noticed that sometimes in low signal areas, it hangs on 1x or 3g a bit longer than my s4 did when going back to LTE. Couple minutes or so. But I won't have a Samsung device again....too locked down and laggy. You'll enjoy a g3 for sure.

Just to give the OP another perspective: I was (still am) an HTC fan. I had most of their phones over the last few years, starting with the Incredible, then Incredible 2, Rezound, and DNA. All excellent phones for the most part. Last year VZW drug its feet releasing the One and I didn't feel like getting a phone that had already been out with everybody else for the better part of a year, so started looking around a little more.
I am NOT a fan of Samsung and I pay attention to what phones are getting released when, especially around October & November. In my ignorance I had blown off the release of the LG G2 because of the brand. I had minimal experience with LG (had an early mediocre tablet, but no phones) so it was completely off my radar. When I went back to do more research, I ran across the G2's specs and couldn't believe I had dismissed it so easily. I read and watched a few reviews and then headed directly to a VZW store to see it in person. Bought it the same day and have been blown away by the quality of the build, the ease of the UI, and the incredible battery life (best I have EVER had on ANY phone). Now that I've had the G2 for over 8 months, I'm sold on the company and its phones. Even bought another LG tablet. So for me, the G3 is a no-brainer. Sign me up on launch day!
HTH
I've ended up with an LG TV, LG washer and Dryer, and two LG phones (Nexus 5 and LG G2), one for me and one for my fiance. I never searched by brand for these, but by reviews and pricing. So far every LG device I've bought in the last 5 years has been excellent.
I am/was another HTC fan. It started with the Incredible, followed by the Thunderbolt, Rezound, DNA, and One M7.
I loved the DNA the most, and was dying to try the M7. I did wait until Verizon released it, and picked it up on launch day. Loved the bulid quality, the front facing speakers, and the screen.
I just got restless and originally was very interested in the M8 until I saw the official design and specs. It is just pointlessly too tall of a device in my opinion, and I also wanted to see them go with a traditional camera. I happened to stop in at Best Buy a few months ago to see the M8 in person, when I walked by the LG display. I picked up the G2, which I had heard of, but dismissed. As soon as the screen lit up and I saw how small the bezels were, and how large the screen is in comparison to the size of the phone, I was interested.
Found a used Verizon G2 on Craigslist for $200, and it was great. Eventually the camera hardware died, but it was replaced under warranty. I love my G2, and my M7 has been relegated to MP3 player/backup phone. The build quality is awesome, the large screen size while still keeping the phone a reasonable size, the battery life, the camera, all things that won me over. I still root for HTC, but they just don't seem to get it anymore.
The one thing I must say that the G2 is lacking, is a good UI. I do REALLY miss the refined Sense UI (dialer, contacts, camera, calendar, etc), but not enough to give up this hardware. I currently run XDABBEB's ROM, and it is awesome. I look forward to the G3 port, as the G3's UI looks to be a bit more refined.
Pros:
Battery life - it may only be a 30% increase in battery capacity, but I see more than a 30% increase in battery efficiency and performance.
Screen - size while still keeping the phone reasonably sized, even outdoes the M7 screen in direct sunlight visibility, more vivid than M7 also
Camera - the M7 camera isn't bad, but I wanted higher resolution, and the G2 provides
Cons:
UI - Not near as polished and refined as Sense
Development - XDABBEB's ROM is awesome, but at times I do miss ViperOne's UI and customization options
You should try spirit rom and install xposed module for tons of tweaks. I'm running pie control on it and it's a beast and frees up even more screen real estate! Spirit rom seems to have a nice gui too... And you can set google now to work from any home screen as its always listening.

[Q] Got the choice between M7 and G2.

I've been reading a couple of forum threads about this itself and I know that it's not allowed to compare 2 phones and I assure you, this is not a VS thread. I am only here for opinions. The users here own (possibly) an HTC One M7 and I find myself drawn to the M7 for only 1 reason really. The build quality, the premium feel.
However I wanted to ask you guys your opinion because you actually own the phone. If it were up to you guys, what would you advise me? HTC M7 or LG G2? Both have 32 GB storage. I know the advantages of the G2 hardware over the M7 and despite it being so sweet under the hood, I would really love to hear what you guys have to say about it.
I currently own an Xperia M. The only reason why I am migrating to another phone is because of storage. 4GB internal is honestly horrible and I feel 32 GB would do the trick. I tend to use a lot of chat applications and I am an amateur photographer too (smartphone wise that is.)
Any opinions? Purely according to you ofcourse, not trying to flame a war or anything. My intentions are simply as it appears. Just need some help deciding and the best help would most certainly come from those who own the device.
Well, I don't know who would recomend LG on this forum. Personaly, I used LG G2 and didn't like it one bit. Sure, LG is more powerfull on paper, but you need to try both phones and see which one suits you better. Camera wise, there was much talk about HTCs ultra pixel, tint issues, not so good picture quality... I, for one like it very much, even took better pictures than with Samsung Galaxy S5. One great thing about M7 is its build quality and shock resistance. I dropped my M7 many times and it left scars on it, but nothing major. My friend dropped his G2 once and his screen cracked. Dissadvantage of bezel less screen

I owned both M7 and G2. I love both. I used more on M7 because I love the build quality, beats audio and also the camera. The only downside is the small battery . That is no way to change it although I perform serious tweak and use the best rom, no doubt. G2 is having slightly poorer development. Not much choices to play around but definitely is a great performance phone and with big battery.
I hope you make a right choice. Both are great phones. Loving them. One last thing, HTC always commit to update their devices, this is another selling point. But bear in mind, software upgrade not necessary better.
