Clean install of 4.3. Got root as I have an unlocked bootloader.
External card not writable.
File explorers have root permission.
Suggestions please, I don't have access to a pc today to try fixing permissions via Windows.

have you tried unmount/mount sd card
and have your tried to reboot the phone
maybe reformat sd card will be required
Tried all except formatting. Not convinced that's the only way as yet.
Just tried using fix permissions in ROM manager. Didn't work either
Mounting to Windows and fixing sdcard errors there didn't work either.

I've tried formatting the card now as well. Both quick and regular. Doesn't seem to work. The files are still visible.
Its a 64gb sandisk ultra. Bought only a few months ago. I thought they were supposed to be a good brand. Seems like the card has corrupted after the flash.
Are there any other options?

Hi,
I am having an issue that I'd hope you would be able to help me with. I flashed CyanogenMod10, and everything was doing fine, smooth performance, reboots with no problems, but then suddenly one day it went bricked. I restored through the SmartFlashTool Method, and got back to the stock Rom with everything working except for the SD card.
I have tried out various stock ROMs and none seemed to recognize the SD card, outputting a message of "SD card removed. Please insert a new one."; getting on to ADB when trying to mount the SDcard I get this message "mounting /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 on /sdcard failed: No such file or directory", and while trying to mount the SD card in CWM Recovery, it tells me "E: Can't mount sdcard", and when I try to mount USB storage through CWM, I get "E:Unable to write to ums lunfile(no such file or directory)", and when trying to mount /sdcard on CWM I get a "Error mounting /sdcard" message... I hope people at XDA would be able to help me since I have been lurking through the forums and internet without any good answer. :highfive:
I was able to mount the SD card through ClockWorkMod Recovery v5.0.2.6, but again, barely at random times when it works, and after installing a ROM those times, the phone usually works for one hour or two and then gets bricked again. I can not have access to another CWM version since I need an SD card to flash it. To install CWM I am using a patched .bin and .fls files in the SmartFlashTool method of unbricking. When the SD card gets recognized, I can even reboot the phone and still get the SD card to be recognized. The SD card problems don't happen until the random bricks after flashing a ROM. :fingers-crossed:
I have also tried using several functioning SD cards of different capacities formatted in NTFS, FAT32 and exFAT with no luck. I am also not willing to go back to stock since it is buggy and lags a lot compared to CM7, CM10 and every other custom rom I have tried. :crying:
Thank you for any help you could provide me, or if you have any answer for this problem,
Pablo Lujambio

Mount the card on pc using an adapter or working phone with mass storage option, then format with standard procedure (on Windows right click on removable disk and format), if doesn't work try to flash again stock JB, you can try another version if your device isn't simlocked to the carrier.

recovery.fstab is a part of the recovery image into kernel, you can't copy-paste it, you can only touch vold.fstab with root access. But this is not your problem because you have flashed stock ROM! As I said earlier: try to flash again a different version of stock JB or try downgrading to see if the problem is resolved.

Try with re-partition of your SD card. Maybe it is in ntfs format, as far I remember we do not have NTFS support out of the box (only with CoCore kernel).

First - what do you want to do? vold.fstab will swap your internal and external memory. And sure it will not help you see your SD card on PC or recovery.
I had problem with non visible SD card in recovery on GB - and solution was to partition it again.
Is not only to swap, but also to set mount points. Yes, I forget about repartition, said to format current partition in fat32 but he said that with an adapter or another device works

I am using Samsung 64G with FAT32 formatting, it's very normal before. But I found it will become read only mode now and need to reboot mobile everytime. Unfortunately, same problem occur again after few days and need to reboot again.
I just wondering it's device or SD card issue? Thanks!

I can use it in computer, and as the problem didn't occur immediately, so it's hard to test with other device.
I had a similar problem with my SanDisk 64GB. Unfortunately, the thing was borked. I could still read from it, but couldn't write anything to it. These symptoms appeared on both the phone and computers (via SD adapter and via phone's USB).
Just sharing my experience.

Well, the sd card is long gone now. But no, I wasn't able to. I would be able to move files onto it, via a file browser, but it would disappear on reboot or if I stuck the SD card into a computer. Which meant that nothing was written to the card itself.

i think it's the device issue. because you saying the problem didn"t occur immediately. if the SDcard issue you most see it read only in PC. and whats you android version in your device? if 4.1.2 you most change it to 4.2.2 or 4.3 because 4.1.2 don't support 64GB SDcards

ok. good luck with it:good:
After backup the files from SD to hard disk, and format the SD card, it show failed with write protected error. Tried different card reader / adapter also the same!!!
This is second SD card "dead" with my Xperia Z!!!
Same files have been automatically created in memory card by unknown app.
At first it was under "com.google.android.videos" . I had cleared using Windows PC as its was read only on Android.
Days ago now again they are found under "com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox"
When I tried to delete them my whole sd card is now read only.
Are they viruses? And how to stop them from creating themselves?
This looks more like corrupted memory to me. And that whole read only thing reminds me of what happened with my /data partition when I flashed the AOSP Lollipop build, though that really shouldn't have happened if you're on stock. Try backing up with TiBu or whatever and formatting the /data partition (actually format, not just wipe) with TWRP, that fixed it for me. Or flash a stock Lollipop FTF with the Wipe Data option checked (same thing, I believe).

In any case, it's much simpler then: either format it, or plug in your phone in mass storage mode (or use an SD card adapter) and run a chkdsk.

Probably means your SD card is damaged or something. Had a similar problem myself once, nothing I did would fix it, and I eventually had to replace it.
Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
currently wich memory card are you using?
I cannot seem to find a consistent experience with users whether it's here (XDA) or other forums and whether or not exFat support exists with Marshmallow. Has anyone else come across similar issues?
I have 128gb sdcard formated in exfat and stock MM_tmobile SM-N910T...I can read the sdcard with no problem but I cannot write without using a program like office suite. You can still backup your rom on external sdcard using twrp.
Strange. I can definitely see it in TWRP but beside that, it says it's corrupted. Guess I'm off to experiment some more.
Edit: Card works on my GF's phone. It has the same exact modifications. Something must be wrong with the flashing of MM. Thanks for the indirect help gmenik6. I didn't even occur to me to try her phone until you said that, even though hindsight it was very obvious.
I got a 200gb SanDisk I use formatted to exfat no problems here reading it or writing to phone and it mounts fine when I use it on the pc.
Which card are you using and are you on a vanilla tw mm or a custom rom like cm13/aosp?

Jus re-flashed through Odin to clear out everything and to reset all paritions just to be safe. Booted up and SD is read. Flash TWRP and SU and still reads fine. I then let all my apps install, install BusyBox, Xposed Framework, XTouchWiz and Titanium Backup, I even restored a few apps through Titanium (from my SD Card). Phone sits over night and now this morning I cannot access my SD Card.
XTouchWiz doesn't seem to be working anymore and the damn TMobile App keeps trying to get root access. I can't freeze it either because TB unexpectedly quit's which I'm guessing is because it's a systemless root.
Thoughts while I troubleshoot/experiment?
Sounds like a faulty SD card, if you did all that and it's still not reading your card correctly.

I'll have to respectfully disagree on the basis that a separate FAT32 card does not read and my current exFat card is read in both my tablet and another Note 4 phone. Now could it be a faulty reader in the phone? That's what I plan to find out by flashing MM through Odin again and keeping it stock for a few days.
