Big battery drain - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have bought XZ 2 days ago, I recharged it first then updated to 4.2.2 and now recharged 2nd time, i unplugged my phone amd after 30 minute there was only 97% left.. Phone went into DS. Any ideas why it has got such a big drain. Wifi and data was off.

I don't know but you can delete some bloatware which produces wakelocks with a root browser or titanium backup.
Check the apps betterbatterystates or wakelock detector.
You can also turn on stamina mode in settings.

Are you using LTE? I get noticeable less battery drain when I'm in a poor LTE covered area and force the device to run 2G/3G.

Give Wakelock Detector a try, it's the best way IMO of seeing exactly what's draining your battery:

Battery charging

How much time i need to charge the xperia z for the first time ?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
So far, I charged mine or about 45 mins before turning it on using the wall charger, then let that drain to nothing, then did a USB charge which took a while (around 5 hours before the fully charged light came on) and now the battery seems pretty good and is getting better. Apparently it has a big impact on how you charge it, fast vs slow, for the first few times, so do some reading around if you havent already : )

I think it's happen on all XSP, because my friend XSP has that too. As far as I know, it happen because when you don't use it, it starting to lower the CPU frequencies so the battery use is become smaller than before
Sent from my Sony Xperia SP using xda app-developers app
And it happens if phone is hot then cools down, then indicator guess up.
As long as it is only 2-3% it is nothing to be concerned about
Sent from my C5303 using xda premium
Yes, it happens on almost all the devices. @Pulsa However I don't think the cpu voltage can be so low that it makes a negative battery use (we speak about the battery getting more charge than before). I suspect changes in temperature between use and standby to be the cause but it's only an assumption. We need some physicists here

Yes,therefore I set it in quotation marks I just didn't know how to describe it otherwise
Problem you described happend on my S+ too. The problem was a faulty battery gauge. To solve this fully recharge it and let it slowly discharge by using it..
With removable batteries you just clean it and done. But with the XSP this is not possible

Battery drain when smartphone is off

Hello everyone. This is the third day I'm having the following issue: I turn off the phone at night with 50% battery, but when I wake up the smartphone doesn't boot, saying that there's no battery anymore.
Someone else had this issue?
Here it is a screenshot:

Its seems that your phone have some kind of wakelock. Download better battery stats and look.
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
I dont understand how can wakelock be active when the phone is off? That doesnt seem posible..

wakelock detector. download from play store. and of course next time 1st search then ask
Do you turn it off completely or just lock it? If you shut it down then its quite strange, if not use the search function as mentioned above.

read please. he turned his phone OFF completely. there are no wakelocks then xP
OP, it might be a faulty battery. try to get the battery out for a night, put it back in the morning and check the status
lol. its obvious that he just described it wrong. u cant switch off the phone and lose 50% battery. he means he turned off display. the phone was supposed to "deep sleep". if he had it really switched off and lose 50% battery then he wouldnt ask. he would already know that his battery is dead and would kiss it bye bye....
if you look at his battery diagram, it kinda shows it was turned off, then turned on and it was on very low battery level, so i think he described it right. lets wait for OP for further info on the issue ^^
I shut the smartphone off. I'll try to check if this problem comes back having removed the battery, as suggested.

Turn your phone off, take the battery off at night and check how much battery you lose when you put it back in, the next day.
I think its just a dead battery, look how fast his battery drained down, it can't be simply wakelocks. My phone doesn't lose that much battery even with heavy gaming.
Anyways, google how to reset battery stats it might help or I don't know.If that doesn't work just replace your battery.
I thought yesterday that this wasnt possible.. Tonight, this happened to me...
I turned my phone off with 63% and in the morning I couldnt turn it on.. When I turned it off, the hardware buttons were on for a couple of seconds... So maybe the phone got stuck on some frequency and drained the battery.. Very strange... Will pull out the battery tonight to test some more.
OK i tried to remove the battery. Everything works fine. So the problem must be something related to the phone or android. I think it's the second one, since this bug happened to my friend as well, but not with this frequency.
Sent from my LG-P880 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It must be a problem with ROM, some bug that keeps the phone from shutting off. It must be stucked on some high frequency to drain so heavily!

I am using CM stable 10.1.3 + iodak v8 kernel. Some Grenify app and privacy guard on for some other ones.
Quite strange indeed.
I am in Vanir with his stock kernel.. Over night with wifi I lose 3-5%,over night with phone off I lose 60%! Hahahaha

guyz sometimes some roms bug when u press to shut off the phone. just hit a couple of times the power button to make sure its off.
I wrote that my hardware buttons after I turned the phone off were still on for a couple of seconds.. If I pushed power button maybe I would see the bug..

Well...my phone was off...I'm 100% sure about that

Stamina mode or battery

Stamina mode gives me 1 day and 7 hours and without it it's 22 hours, is this okay?

it depends how u used your phone during on battery time.
I don't use stamina mode and I get all day out of one charge. Depends how heavily you use your phone. Try it, experiment a bit and see what works for you
Stamina mode benefit is somewhat situational. If you always turn the screen on it won't kick in to that mode as much. If you whitelist apps that do a lot of frequent data transfer it will help less. If you are in a poor network area it will help more while the screen is off for a while.
Makes it really hard to set a standard of what the battery life should be...
I use my phone moderate I think, some heavy usage in a day, but not much It gets me through the day, sometimes not the whole day and I'm after an update 4.3, but in the last one it showed me on stamina mode like 2 days maybe

You have to make minimum 10 cycles from 100% to 1% to let the system set up properly and the Stamina to calculate your usage. If you Update to .136, you will have same problem again because the system have to start calculate your usage and battery life again and you will have to make another 10 cycles from 100& to 1% and charge to full.
Cool, I will do that

This 2% per 5 mins is when the phone is in standby mode ?
then there is some crap that is eating all your battery.
have a look at the battery usage and see what is using the battery most, in my case it's exchange service -- i cant do anything there because i use email app to get my office emails.
please reply with the app that is using most battery.

I don't think it'll matter.
Looks like your battery is dead. This phone is the most power-effective phone I owned since Motorola Defy+, it can hold any abuse and still has juice at the end of the day.

And then you've either installed some app that keeps your phone constantly awake, or killed the battery immediately by discharging it to 0. That's the only 2 explanations.
Right now I'm 17h on battery at 50% remaining, and screen as the top discharge reason with 32%. My father, who doesn't use the same phone extensively, routinely charges it once in 2 days. You should have screwed up something really bad to cause this phone not to hold charge.

Could be killed battery. This app won't do anything bad, I believe.
Might also be something reception-related, but I'm not sure if the reception is good/bad or if your carrier does/doesn't support fast dormancy and to what degree does it affect the phone.
