KUDOS TO VANIDOR A POSTER ON THIS SITE WITHOUT HIM I WOULD BE STUCK THANK HIM TOO I LINK TO HIS POST!
I am new to this but after spending over a day of on and off researching and trial and error I have come to a successful end and it may be unorganized unorthdoxed but it worked and I want to share it with everyone else who would like this. Now there are ways to use the android market easily! But I wanted to be able to make in game purchases so that required google play on my kindle working 100% with linked device. Here is what you can do easily I will come back and provide links that worked for me but I am going to assume you are rooted there are around 5 different ways to root, easiest for me was useing KF First Aid.
First you need ES File explorer.
Than get yourself a KindleFree program, it is on 1mobileapp. Google 1mobileapp on your kindle if you do not have their app downloader yet.
Run Kindlefree and install googleplaystore and all the service packs and everything useing the apps directions, I know google play store will not work you will probaly have errors about opening it or a gapps error ignore these I had them too.
Now head over to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579769 and find vanidor's post and download both files and follow his directions for them.
Now open google play store, you should be logged in already and voila you have the store linked to your device, even if your pc says no device linked you are linked just unofficial i guess because I am a recognized device as kfsowi and able to install apps from pc to kindle
I apologize for my lack of professionalism and organization i am just excited and really never post on forums like this.
Does NOT work for Kindle Fire HD 7" 2013 running 11.3.1 with the following steps.
- Use KindleFree to install the Gapps
- Open Google Play, deal with errors, log in with existing account
- Reboot
- Downloaded DownloadProvider apks from HERE
- ADB push DownloadProvider apks to /sdcard/
- As su in adb shell:
- "mount -o remount,rw /system"
- "cp /sdcard/DownloadProvider*.apk /system/app/"
- "chmod 644 /system/app/DownloadProvider*.apk"
- "rm /system/app/DownloadProvider*.odex"
- "adb reboot"
First time I tried to open the Play Store, I got connection errors (i'm quite positive my Wifi connection works fine). Eventually those went away, and then when I tried to open the play store, it should brought me back to the launcher without any errors.
Next I cleared data for the following then the Play Store would open for a moment to show me the server error message and then FC.
- Google Account Manager
- Google Play Store
- Google Services Framework
Reboot and still getting the instant close (no FC messages).
This is easily the 5th way I've tried across 4 different Kindle Fire HDs (3 running 11.3.1) and only the one running 7.4 actually succeeded. As far as I can tell, you're the only person claiming to have things working and if you actually do, you need to share ALL Google Play related files because it's likely a version issue and you've gotten lucky.
speaking of kfsowi on 11.3.1 does anyone have a recovery installed ?
There is none at this time.

The Google Play update found in Kindle Free was way out of date for me. I used the Google Play 4.5.10 update that I found on Android Police and everything worked for me. The update in Kindle Free did not work.

You actually have the store launched though? Any chance you could run an 'adb logcat' and give me the last ~50 lines from right when you open the store and then one from when you try to download?
Also, if you've got the store opening (not closing each try), I'd love a copy of the files you're using. If you don't know which ones are key, I can give you a list and I'd like to PM you a folder you can upload to on Google Drive. Sounds like you're at least one step further than I am.

I'm not quite sure which files you'd need so a list would be nice.
By following all the steps it does install and load the play store, but when you try to download it doesn't
The tablet appears in the play store device list but i'll try to install an app when i get home.

Could you provide a logcat started just before you hit "install" on an app? I'm collecting info from a couple people.
google now
Is google now working with your setup, and if so will you post all google related files in system/app? I'm testing aviate and would really like google now to work for full functionality
Confirmed, Play Store on KFSOWI (Kindle Fire HD 7in 2013 running 11.3)
I had a little trouble getting the automated GUI working, but download kindlesuite.zip from http://dl.kfsowi.com/tools/kindlesuite/, extract the zip, then open a cmd prompt and cd to the kindlesuite folder that had FBZip.exe in it and from there execute "resources\tools\stockmod.bat". This will download the needed gapps.zip and take care of most steps until it tells you the remaining few.
Required: MUST BE ROOTED and still running the fireos ROM. The only thing this didn't do was update the store to a newer version but I just had to obtain the apk and run "adb install -r "Google Play Store 4.4.21.apk"
In theory, this suite GUI will take care of root for you but it uses HTA (Windows Hyper-text App) and on 8.1 Pro, I had issues even getting the GUI running.

Sorry. No idea. Never saw any reason to screw with another app-store. Look at anyone trying to come to Android from iOS and you'll quickly see why more app-stores is NOT a good thing in the end.

It's android, I use amazon appstore for "Free app a day", and Google Playstore (cellphone), using both I have a good mix of app; on my Kindle HD 2012 I can use Google and Amazon Appstore without problem and I can use my app on google and amazon.
PS: I found solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579769&page=3
It's only problem of "downloadprovider" on HD 2013
PS2: I cannot download from Amazon appstore but I can "buy" application because I receive amazon invoice in my email.

I was using KindleFree back when I was too much of a noob to tackle gapps on my own on my kindle fire... But well, sometime I had to contact the creator, you should send him an email saying that the playstore is out of date and he'll probably fix it, he was very helpful when I needed help.

Like I said, multiple app stores just creates problems. What does free matter if you can't take advantage of it along with the larger collections of apps available and those that you've paid for?

So I tried to install the Google Search and Voice Search on my Nexus One running CM6 RC2.
Everything else seems to be updating & installing fine, but these two new ones announced today download and always get "Installation Unsuccessful" triangles.
Anyone have any ideas?

I am seeing the same issue.
moved to q&a
Yeah... It tells me, "Package was not signed correctly."
Edit: I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that we have google apps installed on our phones with the FRF91 addon pack. I wonder if people not using that have the same issues...
Me too please fix!!!!!!! Somebody!!!!!!
oh im using cyanogen mod night version...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Same here.
So it's a problem with CM6 RC2?
I'm using a stock rooted rom and I get the same error..
Yeah, I have just noticed the same thing, chrome to phone installed just fine however the voice search will not install
nexus one also on rc2
I'm encountering the same problem, CM6 RC2 on Droid.

What I did was mount /system/app as RW with root explorer, used adb to "rm VoiceSearch.apk and then rebooted, downloaded and installed from the market.

Try that, worked for me.

From the comments responding to the announcement, here is how it can be made to install on custom ROMs. Just tested this:
Just run the following commands to uninstall the old system apps if you use a custom rom.
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk
adb uninstall com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
adb shell rm /system/app/VoiceSearch.apk
adb uninstall com.google.android.voicesearch
This will let the new ones install from market without the package signing error

Titanium Backup/Root Explorer
I'm having issues modifying framework-res.apk
I already checked some of the other posts and guides.
I'm working on a Motorola Backflip running j_r0dd's Preclair v1.0.3
I just switched my carrier from AT&T to T-Mobile.
I get stuck in a boot loop or get no results at all depending on whether I push or copy/paste the new file and whether I do it when the phone is running or in recovery mode.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here is what I had posted on modmymobile.com:
Ok. I'll try again. Thanks for the help. I'll let you know how it goes.
What about signing? If I am using App Manager can I just recompile and sign with App Manager? I am about to try this. I'm performing a nandroid backup now. I'll report back how it works out. The only value I changed was the onsText maxLength value from 18 to 3.
1. I decompiled with App Manager
2. I edited the status-bar.xml file.
3. I choose 11. Compile apk option in Apk Manager.
4. I answered Y to system file and to the option for the keep folder.
5. I deleted status-bar.xml and the resources file from the keep folder.
6. I pressed enter to continued in Apk Manager
7. I selected 12. Sign apk option in Apk Manager.
8. I am now pushing the framework-res.apk to the phone in recovery mode
9. Restarted just fine but no changes have taken place.
I checked the file sizes of the original and the modified framework-res.apk files and the original is 2899KB and the modified is only 1731KB. After I changed the file and rebooted the one on the phone was back to 2899KB.
I'll try copying the file with root explorer instead of pushing just to make sure it is overwriting.
After this operation I get this in the logcat:

When I reboot I get that second loop over and over while the motorola "m" is on the white screen.
I'm not sure about motorola but on the hero and many other devices, the carrier name is in the eri.xml. I'm with cellular south but I always put my wife's name on her phone.
Did you add the necessary(original) amount of spaces when hex editing that file?
I'm with dean.d though. Mine was in eri.xml too
are you both on CDMA phones? The text fields are T-CDMA. Is this just generic or does it refer to CDMA only? I'm on a GSM network.
From my understanding with 2.1 for the Backflip Motorola set the carrier to always show in the notification bar. Maybe its in the moto-res.apk file...I'll look there.
My son's Moto X with unofficial Lineage OS 13 has been working just fine until today, when it suddenly stopped finding any network operators. The SIM card is still recognized, I may enter the pin, but then it says "No service", and when I go to network operators choice, I find that not a single operator is displayed.
I tested the SIM in another phone, it seems to be fine. I also inserted different sim, which I know to work into this phone, but that did not help.
This is what I get from adb logcat, but I can't make sense of it:

Could it be that suddenly the hardware has become faulty? Does anybody have suggestions how to test for the cause?
Thanks very much in advance!!!
Did a factory reset, which did not solve it. Still no network operators found.
Trying to understand the problem. logcat reveals that when it scans for networks, something goes wrong:

Did a factory reset, which did not solve it. Still no network operators found.

Have you tried restoring to the stock firmware? If not, try the following commands in fastboot mode first:
Code:
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
Additionally, in the Phone app, you may dial *#*#INFO#*#* (*#*#4636#*#*) to obtain more information about the device's network.

Yes, but that also did not help, so I returned to LineageOS again.

I am not clear what that does. Seemingly, it erases two partitions. Is their content rebuilt after? Are those two partitions shipped with the custom rom? I did several google searches and each time I found it accompanied by the instruction to flash something else in the next step. So before nuking a partition I certainly would want to know., but so far I have not found an explanation of the partition layout.

I know. There it says it has no cellular network. As the logs I posted indicate, something goes badly wrong while searching for cells.
Tried it now, after a backup, but it did not change the situation. The sim card is recognized, but "no service" remains.

The fastboot commands clear the modem cache, and the cache regenerates on boot up.
Unfortunately, it looks like your issue is hardware-related. Which method did you use to restore to the stock firmware?

Which really would be a first time for me. I never saw the GSM module of a phone suddenly fail. My son insists that nothing had happened..
Yesterday, after reflashing the stock firmware yet again, I shortly got a very weak signal, and then, after I went to manual operator selection, it immediately went away again and stubbornly remained absent since.

TWRP (adb sideload). I am not sure whether the image is flashable via fastboot.

As a last resort, I would suggest locating the full stock firmware for your device and follow the included instructions (if any) to flash it via fastboot, or at the very least, flash the fsg.mbn and NON-HLOS.bin for your device as listed under Modem Firmware in this thread. Instructions for flashing are included in the downloaded archive.

I reflashed them but as a result, the sim card is no longer recognized, rebooted several times.
Update: Reflashed lineageOS and now I got my sim card back, although still not connecting to the network. Reflashed the stock firmware with twrp (not sure how this would be done via fastboot), I got my phone to re-connect to the network for a few seconds, which made me jump up and down in excitement, but then the connection dropped again, before I could even make a phonecall
Update 2 Tried a different sim card, but again, when I try to register automatically, this is what I see:

Is there a way to get the xperia-original symbols ported to LOS?
I dont like the LOS-symbols ( for example the signal-strength).

I assume you'd just need to change a few xmls from SystemUI\res\drawable from one to the other. So you'd have to decompile both SystemUI apks and compare the xmls, make changes if needed, recompile and test.
1. decompiled
2. cp ORIG/res/drawable/stats* LOS/res/drawable/
3. recompiled without problems
4. replace /system/priv-app/SystemUI/SystemUI.apk with the new new
5. reboot
6. phone stuck in "prepare for startup"
7. going back to TWRP replace new compiled SystemUI.apk with old from Backup
8 reboot phone
9. nothing to see in the display (but logcat looks like everything works)
10. need to wipe /data else the phone stuck "somewhere"
It seems i missed something here (wipe cache dont help).. any suggestions?

Welcome to modding! Did you copy the original AndroidManifest.xml and META-INF from the old apk into the new after compiling the new one? Give this THREAD a read if not.
ahh i isee, in this howto u going to decompile the framework-res.apk, i just do it with the SystemUi.apk (xz1c). Lets give a try
It seems only modify some XMLs isnt the way to go... because in the SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk from the LOS are all the 'res/drawable-hdpi/stat_sys_signal*'.png things missing...
The Question for me is: can i just copy the stat_sys_signal*.png files into the LOS SystemUI.apk and recompile it? :/
Hmmm, everything was done fine so far... (after dd if=SystemUI.apk there was new symbols).
There was some errors related to systemui after dd .. but seems to work

The icons aren't pngs anymore, it's just the xml files you need to concentrate on, and open them up to compare the code.

No, they do not, as I said above, pngs haven't been used for a long time. Look at the naming of the xmls, that usually gives you a clue. It's not something I've changed so giving suggestions as to what I would do if I looked to change them.

Any joy? https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/graphics/vector-drawable-resources
I'm not a developer myself, but I know you can change status bar icons with substratum themes if you have used that before.
Here is the link to substratum info:

And a theme that has similar notification icons to the Xperia ones:

I have a few problems with the xz1c and the LOS16 from modpunk, so i decided to put the "style" topic at the end of the queue.

Substratum for Pie isnt a solution, because this needs root, but root kills my "banking app" (even with magisk hide).

Hello,
Quick context : I need to use an app (itsME belgian app) to get my vaccine certificate on my phone but unfortunately the app doesn't work on rooted phone.
So if I unroot my phone will I be able to keep all my messenger app conversations and pictures for example?
Thank you
I tested the app and with the Magisk app repackaged with a random name and the app on the Deny list (I'm using Canary Magisk build 23014) it started without complaining about a rooted device. That means it's at least possible to hide Magisk from it, but it might depend on your particular device/setup.
Tested on a OnePlus 5T with a custom Android 11 ROM, Magisk build 23014.
Hey @vifzor, thanks for bringing up the itsme issue. Got the same problem on my end (OnePlus 6T here)! Something must have changed recently as I've been successfully hiding root from this app for years.

MagiskHide: enabled
Magisk app: hidden
Hidden Magisk app "superhidden" via SudoHide (LSPosed)
TWRP folder: removed
Yet the app is still saying "Rooted device detected" on startup, despite having cleaned its data several times. All while my banking app and other root sensitive apps are working fine.
Using stable 23000 though, should I try Canary?
@Timmmmaaahh! I'm not using any Riru or Xposed style modules at all. I only have Magisk Canary (23014) with the Deny list set up and the Magisk app repackaged with a random name.
I'm seeing two discrepancies between our setups that stand out at a first glance:
LSposed
Stable vs Canary Magisk releases
Either LSposed is being detected (which you could test by disabling it), or the Canary Deny list is better at hiding Magisk. If you're going to try Canary keep in mind that you'll need an LSPosed version that is compatible with Zygisk rather than Riru.

No go for disabling Riru/LSposed, still detecting. What do you mean by Deny list? Magisk Hide?
@vifzor Can you check with Magisk Canary?

The Deny list is the new iteration of MagiskHide that is currently being tested on the Canary branch and will be in the next stable release of Magisk.
I'm sure you've heard talks of @topjohnwu working for Google now and as such the nature of Magisk's hiding capabilities have changed a little, although not quite as much as you'd think. Magisk can still completely get out of the way of any app that's added to the Deny list.
Hiding from SafetyNet is still perfectly possible, but takes a couple of manual tweaks (although those using the Universal SafetyNet Fix module won't notice anything since it does everything for them).
@Didgeridoohan Just something I was wondering: does a logcat hint to what potentially is causing detection? This is the moment itsme is started:

Wild guess really
@Timmmmaaahh! I'm not seeing anything obvious. But then again, that behind-the-scenes stuff isn't my forté.
Hey again @Didgeridoohan!
I finally got to upgrading to Magisk Canary (23015), yay.
Funny thing happend: now itsme starts but my banking app (Keytrade, discussed in your thread here) picked up detection again! Not a major surprise as you've already hinted this would happen because LSPosed is broken by Zygisk. I'm not entirely sure how to proceed though. I've looked into AirFrozen but might not be ideal as it's never been updated after its release in 2016. As far as I can see a fix for Riru is in the works but not just there yet. Fixed Universal SafetyNet Fix works so that's great! I guess I need something that freezes Magisk whenever I start my banking app (and unfreezes when I close it) but can't seem to find anything that does that. Maybe with Tasker and SecureTask, I'll do more digging.
@vifzor This'll be good news for you if your only issue was with itsme, of course. Just fetch latest canary manager here, make sure canary update channel is selected in settings and update Magisk, then enable Zygisk and Enforce DenyList in settings after reboot and enable itsme in the DenyList. One more reboot and you'll be fooling our government again in no time ^_^
@Timmmmaaahh! Try the LSPosed release that's compatible with Zygisk. There's one around I believe, but you'll have to practice your Google-Fu with that one...
What is Google? I'd have to Duck that. Anyway, performed some Telegram magic (remember kids, TG is bad for your teeth!) and found it: LSPosed-v1.6.3-62**-zygisk-release.zip
So LSPosed works again, which generates a pretty big question: why did I need Riru in the first place if LSPosed works standalone? Oh right, it's riding Zygisk now instead – nevermind. So I guess Zygisk is some sort of Riru? These are frameworks? This totally exceeds my intelligence. For now! *evil laughter*
It took me ridiculously long to figure this out but it was eventually Hide My Applist that did the trick. Probably combined with SudoHide or whatever but I don't want to do any more testing. Basically: create a template in HMA containing anything related to root and apply this to the 'effective app' one wants to open.
[rant] I'm a bit surprised my bank is going through all this trouble for root detection, especially with Magisk's new DenyList. The way I understand the new method works, is that selected apps are completely excluded from root abilities so it's not just hiding that root is there, it actually makes it virtually impossible to apply any manipulations to the applications in that list.
Though I enjoy some cat and mouse play from time to time, if my bank keeps this up I will switch to another bank. I'm no fan of overzealous safety measures. Takes me back to a whole bunch of DRM fails back in the 90's. Besides, apps that are so important should not rely on local safety anyway. If I log into my bank account via Windows XP I expect my bank to create a nicely secured connection using that nifty little calculator they provide us with. [/rant]
Sorry to hijack this @vifzor but as you haven't been online in the past 10 days I'm sure you don't mind. And we found a solution for you
Thanks once again for your assistance @Didgeridoohan
