HTC OTAs can only be installed from the stock recovery. If you really want this, you've gotta copy the OTA for safekeeping (right now it's in /sdcard/Download/OTA_*), then install stock recovery try again. If you are not prompted to install the OTA, you can boot into recovery and do it manually (using key combinations to unlock the options, which are initially hidden).

you can check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2463387
if you can't find an exact match to your firmware, then get one as close as possible; if it's not the same version, it could hang during the update procedure because it's unable to reboot, so you'll have to manually reboot using POWER + VOLDOWN, and let it continue it's work.

[Q] OTA Update with custom recovery?

Hello! I received the 1.29.1540.16 update today. I have the Team Win's recovery flashed on my Dev Edition. When I try to update, TWRP starts and no update happens.
How should the OTA updates be addressed with custom recoveries?
Same here... I have a rooted Dev Edition with CWM Touch recovery. Got prompted to update to 1.29.1540.16 (currently on 1.29.1540.3). Tried to install a couple of times, but, it just reboots without installing the update.

Flash stock recovery first.

%$($*&%(@%... I was too hasty. Rebooted to recovery, wiped cache and tried to flash the downloaded OTA update zip (named OTA_M7_UL_JB_50_BrightstarUS_WWE_1.29.1540.16_R-1.29.1540.3_release_318620_signednimix5ealszkrygs.zip) which I found in the downloads folder.
It started the installation, and is now hung at the "Running bug-fix1 tool..." step.
Not sure how long I should wait before aborting it. Am concerned that aborting (forcing a reboot) will cause more damage.

abort and restore you backup
Aborted... rebooted... looks OK. Still on 1.29.1540.3. Still prompted to update. So, basically, status quo.
Looked around for stock recovery - the only ones I find are the 401 (instead of 1540) - which, if I understand, is from the international version and NOT the Dev Edition. Can anybody please help me get the stock recovery for the Dev Edition. (My first nandroid backup was *after* installing CWM and rooting.)

or just flash the ruu for your phone
But, doesn't flashing the RUU wipe apps/data? I'd like to do this in the least destructive way possible. If I can get away with just flashing original recovery, installing the OTA update and flashing CWM back, I'll be happy.
yes it will. if you can get away with that then go for it
I have cwm installed on my htc one and I couldn't ruu my one back to a stock image. It would freeze up during the flash image process in the beginning.
No harm in trying the 401 or 707 recoveries ... if OTA doesnt work, just hard reboot and flash another
AND REMEMBER - NO NEED TO RELOCK FOR OTA UPDATES !
Ok got this to work and here's how, it goes without saying that this was my experience and the steps I used and I by no means accept any responsibility for any of these steps functioning on any other device...
I was using TWRP 2.5 and was rooted but otherwise was still on the stock rom that my developer edition shipped with.
I went here and downloaded the stock recovery for .16.
I opened the rar file which included other bat files to push the recovery but I didn't use that. I went to the fastboot folder and pulled the recovery.img file and dropped it in my M7 all in one tool kit folder under data and recoveries.
I then plugged in the phone and opened the toolkit and flashed my own recovery and followed the directions in the toolkit. After reboot the device came up and wanted to load the update which I let it do.
It went through and loaded and the scroll bar went all the way to the end and stuck. I waiting ten minutes and when it didn't restart I held the power button for about 15 seconds (until buttons stopped flashing) and the device screen went blank and I let go of the power button.
At this point it went through a couple screens where it appeared to be loading the update. Scroll bar went to the end and the device restarted and did that again. On the third restart it did a full boot and was good.
I then went back to the toolkit and flashed the TWRP recovery and then after reboot I went into recovery and flashed supersu to get root back.
Not sure if this helps anyone but wanted to share my experience...

TWRP 2.6.0.0 is currently broken for the Sprint HTC One. As bigdaddy stated, you can go to teamw.in to download 2.5.0.0, which is fully functional.

Help, accidentally deleted OS and recovery

Tried a new ROM but it froze on me. Then tried my back up and it would reboot after like a minute. So decided to do a full wipe but it deleted everything. I can get into the bootloader screen and TWRP but Windows can't read the phone and when it tries to install the drivers some of them fail. I have a copy of my recovery but need to know how to push it back to my phone and get the drivers installed right so that my PC can read my phone. Help.
TWRP seems to now act funny too where it'll like go to sleep and I have to press the home button or power button for a while before it turns the screen back on. Sometimes though I have to do the button combo to get back into recovery.
RUU
So I RUU'd the phone and it's working now, thanks. But it still shows unlocked and with S-OFF. So at this point can I just proceed with rooting it or do I have to lock it and put it back to S-ON before trying to re-root it? Or can I just try rooting it and putting a recovery image on it? It's been a while since I rooted it and obviously there was no 4.3 out at that time.
No need to re-lock or s-on just flash recovery and flash a rooted rom

Thanks for taking the time to help me out. So I installed v.2.5 of TWRP that I had instead of the newer version and it just freezes at the main screen. I can reflash it but it does the same thing. I get an error when trying to flash the newer version. How can I remove/delete the recovery image to flash the latest version?

You should be able to flash right over the older version make sure you download a fresh version of 2.6.3.0 from here http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7wls
Also remember after flashing the recovery.img type fastboot erase cache
The other thing is go into settings/screen and disable screen timeout that should take care of the "freezing" problem

Ugh. I cannot restore stock recovery to my rooted HTC One Developer's Edition. I can install CWM and TWRP with no problem. But flash the stock recovery and all I get is the red exclamation point.
S-ON
HBOOT 1.55.0000
CID: BS_001
I cannot get OTA updates and I get Error 155 when I try to return to stock using RUU.
Maddening.
Are there any suggestions as to how to get to where I can receive OTA again? I can't believe how difficult it has been to restore the stock recovery.

As cIsA said, the raid exclamation mark you got is the first page of the stock recovery. Stock recovery is not intended for user so you have to make the power +volume trick to access the menu.

You have 4.4.2 stock recovery. The OTA needs 4.4.3 (or above) stock recovery.
Download the OTA but dont install it, copy the OTA file to your computer, unzip it, you'll get firmware.zip, unzip the firmware.zip, you'll get recovery.img.
Flash that recovery.img.
Than install the OTA through setting -> software update, dont install OTA via recovery..
It should works..

indeed flashing new recovery did solve the problem. As i locked phone before (somewhere people were saying that it has to be locked to get OTA) i had to wipe the phone (titanum backup doesn't work without root)
thanks
