Thank you! I didn't realize they had an expiration date.
I was supposed to look into this weeks ago but didn't. How was the Amazon promo sent to purchasers? I don't remember getting anything or was there a cutoff on that to?
Tried to contact Amazon about this but so far, one reply thought I was asking about the student price discount!!:crying:
Same here, didn't get any thing inside the retail box or email etc

Not 100% since I got all mine via Best Buy but looks like it was a separate email, just like it was for Best Buy.
The BBY email had subject "Your Complimentary Netflix Subscription Code" so check if maybe it got out in spam, bulk or junk.

I got my Chromecast from Best Buy right when it first came out. My code for the 3 months of free NetFlix was printed directly on my Best Buy receipt. I'm a "Best Buy Rewards" member, so I don't know if that had any bearing on how I was presented my code, but the guy at Best Buy said something about me needing to check my email that I had associated with my Rewards account. I really can't remember why he mentioned that and I honestly don't remember even putting in my Rewards email for anything, but yea...it was printed right in the middle of my receipt.

Thanks for the confirmation. I'm told it shouldn't matter whether you're a a My Best Buy member or not, aside from the system looking up your info.

Sometimes there's a grace period, though in this case my guess is that the Netflix employee that needs to turn it off has today off.

I don't know if this is possible or not, but I purchase the app Video Catcher + FLV, and it didn't work for the site I wanted so I got a refund. Within DAYS I got an attempt at a $1000.00+ charge on my card from AUSTRALIA!? And I'm in Oregon! Then two charges for what appears to be a large print TV guide at 27.98. Thankfully my bank denied the charge from Australia and called me about that and the other two charges. I had made a purchase on eBay but that was via Paypal and they don't have my card info, and that doesn't get passed to the vendor anyhow. I made a purchase on Amazon about a month ago from a company that appears to have a good standing so I'm thinkin' it's the company I bought this app from. Unless they don't get your CC info when you make a purchase from the app store, but my CC info is on my email receipt so?? Well the last 4 digits of my card are, but I'm not sure who got my info but these are the only purchases I made on it recently. If it's not the app, I have no idea how this happened but I did find other reports on Google of people getting fraudulent charges after installing some app on their phone. I know we'd all like to think this can't happen, but if you think that, what will you do when it DOES happen to you?
Interesting story here, not exactly what I've experience above but fraud in the market nonetheless
http://arstechnica.com/business/201...s-android-apps-to-prevent-fraudulent-charges/
And HERE is an interesting thread about someone who experiences the same thing but with a card only used for the market.
I'm planning on bulk ordering 10 chromecast units (3 for me, rest for family/friends) and shipping them via freight forwarder to Australia.
But i'd like to know how much Google Play charges for shipping before i commit.
The new nexus 7 says "free ground shipping" but there aren't any details for the chromecast?
Would've been great if amazon still offered these with Prime shipping...
Appreciate any responses, cheers!
Shipping (3-5 business days): $9.99 To US Address
I ordered on the release date, still they haven't shipped it yet. The invoice says they will ship by August 16, 2013.
Also note that Google Play Store wont allow you to purchase with an Aussie card

Thanks, is that shipping for one item? I wonder how much it would be for 10..
Can't use an Aussie card? Damn.... Is it because the billing address is not US? What if I use the shipping address as the billing address, they can't check that can they?

Update. They have shipped the order now. 9.99 is for 10 units.
Yes its because of the billing address, but what I did was I added a zero to my post code, same street name and number and everything, it worked (I wanst too sure about this method because they didnt charge a single cent till now). You wont be able to use your shipping address as billing address as banks declines transaction if your CC account address and billing address are different. Surprisingly everything worked well

Cheers! I'll wait till the Aussie dollar goes up a bit before taking the plunge. Thanks so much. Will try a zero for the postcode.
Just wondering is it safe to use a credit card through VPN? Eg tunnelbear
Edit: any idea if they'd put all 10 in one postage box?

Yes for me they put all in one box 5.4 lbs (2.45KG total for 10 units), I used comgateway as the mail forwarding service. If the VPN support https (SSL) then I dont see a problem with entering card details. Note that even if you buy now, Google play store wont charge untill they ship the item which is currently 3 to 4 weeks from order date.

I guess the real question is will the Chromecast work from an Australian ISP.

I'm the one who started the Chromecast in Canada thread.
You should have no trouble on YouTube.
As for Netflix, which is unavailable in Australia, Hotspot Shield will not work as a solution because both the casting device and the Chromecast itself must appear to Netflix as within the same supported country. Hotspot Shield is available for desktop and mobile but it's not available in a form that you can manually configure at the router level. Since Chromecast cannot be configured directly to use different DNS servers or a VPN, the only way to redirect it is using a router.
I can confirm that Unblock-Us works for this purpose, as long as you have a configurable enough router to redirect hard-coded Google DNS requests to the Unblock-Us DNS servers. An alternate approach is to use a router which (whether on its own or via custom firmware) supports being permanently logged into a VPN service, and you would have to choose a service that actually gives you a direct login rather than requiring desktop/mobile software.

I can't speak to that. But keep in mind that Google Play uses a combination of factors to judge if your account is in the USA including:
- IP address
- Billing address of payment methods - if even one method indicates a non US address, it may not consider you to be US
- SIM cards installed in Android devices that are signed into that account
- Who knows what else
On the flip side, any Google Play content you have acquired while using a USA IP address should be accessible from the cloud even when you're not. This is at least true with music, not sure with movies. So you may not need to misdirect Chromecast to play the content.
Edit: I see that Google Play movies and music are available in Australia, so that helps.

Hey mate, how can you add a zero to the post code? For me it brings up "This postcode format is not recognised.", in which case i need to change the billing address country to United States?
Edit:
I get this message when using US as my billing country
"Uh oh. There was a problem.
We couldn't complete your purchase because of a technical issue.
Details of the problem below:
Sorry, we were unable to process this request. Any charge will be automatically cancelled within 24 hours. Please try again after 24 hours."
I ordered 2 and got them Yesterday. It was $7.99 for 3 - 5 day USPS to Georgia. If that helps you any.

With Amazon offering 5 free apps = 1000 Amazon coins ($10) for purchases from the Amazon App Store currently, you can get both Plex and Avia (in app upgrade) for free and still have plenty left over to get a game or two.
- You must buy through the Amazon App Store, using your U.S. account (Canadian account won't work)
- You have to "purchase" and download the 5 listed free apps, but you don't have to install them unless you want to
- You get 200 Amazon coins for each of them, arrives in your account within a minute or so
- You can then use the 1000 coins for buying apps or making in-app purchases up to $10 worth
Definitely works for Plex and the Avia in-app upgrade. AllCast not listed unfortunately (there's an AllCast for FireTV, so Amazon may consider the Chromecast version a competitor)
actually if you haven't already, use 700 of those coins to buy GTA and get an additional 2000 coins. this plus the info above left me with a bunch of free apps (which you don't have to install if you don't want) GTA which i believe is for Fire TV and therefore have no use for. plex, avia and $22 in coins to use for future purchases. Thanks for reminding me to try my US account and not just my canadian account. Thought I was SOL.
Amazon have lost their minds. With all the promos they're offering this weekend, I've so far downloaded 3 paid apps I wanted for free, and ended with $30 in app store credit to spend in future. Since you can start with a free download that gives you some credit, and then leverage that to give you back more credit than you spend, I bet with a little work you could end owning every app that Amazon offers and still have a $1 million credit!

Those free coins doesn't happens usually. I'm too with like 3300 coins ($33) in my account. If I'm not wrong, they expire after a year.

Yes, these deals are infrequent. You are also correct - promotional/bonus coins expire after a year, but they are used before purchased coins when redeeming, so as long as you get something with coins every now and then, you will be fine.
But for some reason Amazon is giving away more coins than advertised at the moment. For example people buying GTA San Andreas for 699 coins are getting back 2500 coins instead of the advertised 2000. I bought a 99 cent app offering 30 coins back and got 200 coins instead. Ditto for other apps offering coins.
Yeah.. I saw that. Probably a bug. I evem bought one and the coins didn't change.
Nice find. Any other recommended apps? I am in Canada as well, just had to indicate a US address on account. Hope this does't spoil it. Had to purchase the San Adreas via PC but I don't have a kindal Worth for the bonus.
Looking to spend the rest of these coins too, any other apps recommended? Don't have too many via Amazon, picked up the Avia for sure or was it Plex, i dunno, i like free stuff.
Thanks OP and follows ups for the tips.
FYI i was using a VPN via phone to make purchases however, online just had to log into account.
So you just put a US address on your Canadian account and it worked?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Many of the Amazon app special offers are U.S.-only, and while Amazon coins are now supported in several countries, they aren't yet in Canada. But all you have to do to take advantage of these offers if you have an existing Canadian Amazon account is change the country in your account settings to United States, and give it any U.S. address (tip: you might want to choose a tax-free state, because taxes do apply to digital purchases). You don't have to use a VPN.
You could also create a separate U.S. Amazon account, but be aware that Amazon apps are DRM-restricted to one account. Every time an Amazon app runs on your Android device it checks the current Amazon account login on the device to make sure it matches (you will be prompted to log in if you are not currently logged in to Amazon). The app will refuse to run if the device is not logged in to the correct Amazon account. You can only be logged in to one account at a time. If you have some apps purchased through one Amazon account and some purchased another Amazon account, you will have to keep switching accounts to run them. There is no way to consolidate app purchases on different accounts. However apps purchased by one account with different countries selected at different times are fine because it's all one account. And you can use the same account and purchased apps on any number of devices.
Thanks for that breakdown. I had originally used my separate account for the US stuff and put that on my tablet. but getting my canadian account recognized was the better move. wish I had learned of this sooner but still took advantage of this promo.
I hurried to order my 5x in order to get the $50 Google promotional credit, thinking I could use the credit balance to purchase from the Google store the USB-C cables I knew I would need.
Today, I went to order my cables, and the store wouldn't let me check out, saying "invalid payment method."
I went back to the offer, and in the fine print on the terms it says: "Items ineligible for purchase using promotional balance include certain subscriptions (see the Help Center for more information), as well as items in the Google Store." (emphasis added). You can only use the credit to buy intangibles, not actual things.
I feel ripped off, like it was a cheap bait and switch. Was I unreasonable to think I could use a Google credit to buy things at the Google store? You can use the Google credit from their marketing questions (Google opinion rewards) at the store. I don't need any games or movies, but I do need new cables.
That's my rant.
This has always been the case.
pretty sure it is google PLAY credit, not google STORE credit. so no, you won't able to spend play credit at the store.
I discovered that as well. Google Play credit, regardless of whether it was from this promo or the Opinion Rewards, cannot be used at the store. I called customer support to see if it could be applied to the type C wall charger they sell, and they wouldn't budge. Oh well.
I'm not happy that I can't use the balance on a charger, but I'm also not surprised. Physical equipment costs them a lot more than apps.
With the right cables, you can get away with using an older charger and a minimal difference in charge time. Most of those cables cost way less than google's quick chargers on the store.

If you are a Play Music subscriber you can use it to pay that subscription, I was able to switch my recurring payment method to my Play credit balance.

To the OP, how can you feel ripped off for something you got for free? Entitled much? It's said for play store use only since the beginning, it's your own fault for not reading. Everything has fine print these days.
Yeah it definitely was the 25th. Any free money is good money. Paid for Nova Launcher prime for me!

And yes it's just Google play apps, BUT, if you're into dating apps, you can use the money towards ok cupid I know for sure but maybe some others as well. That's a plus as I'm trying to buy apps, but now I can't find any worth buying except nova launcher prime of course!

You will probably get code after trade in period is over
I believe it says the usual 6-8 weeks. The email associated with your order needs to be tied to Google Pay to get the credit.
Dose the $100 only for Trade in or all pre-order?

Yeah, it's the same as all their deals. Just so you don't return the phone after you get the promo. The site says, "Customers will receive an email notifying them Promotional Balance is added to their account 6-8 weeks after the end of the promotion (October 26, 2019 at 11:59pm PT) ... Promotional balance expires on 01/31/20 11:59pm PT."
I cancelled the Google Store pre-order and got it from Amazon. $100 at Amazon is more useful than at the Google Store in my opinion.
If you have Fi and get it on Fi they just pull it out of your bill until it's consumed; works for me.
The google credit is mentioned in the fine print, I had to scroll to the very bottom. I am hesitant to order from Verizon since they have a history of locking the bootloader, currently they have $450 credit for trading in a phone like the Pixel.
Verizon=just say no. Not ever. Uh-uh. Not going to happen. Ever. Example: Saving 400 on Verizon equals walking through 500 miles of dog feces barefoot before you get the opportunity to lick a goats sphincter. Yeah, you could do that because your tough and all that and you end up 400 dollars richer but do you really need to save 400 dollars that much?

Would you know if the Pixels from Fi are SIM-Locked or not?
Thank you.

Don't know how it works if you finance but if you pay cash they are SIM unlocked immediately, I took one over to Tmo simply by sticking my SIM in before I even booted it up for the first time. The bootloader can also be unlocked but again I'm referring to a cash buy, it may be different if you finance.

Thanks for replying back.
I think you're right, financing=SIM-Locked, Cash=Unlocked!
I didn't say that, I said I didn't know what the situation was with financed devices. Fi is super straight up when you call them, if I was interested in picking one up via financing there I would give them a quick shout and see what they say.
I just read that you can order through the Goog store, get their 100 credit but select via Fi on checkout and then turn around and get their 100 credit also, seems like one is slipping through a crack that may be closing at any time.

No Fi phones are NOT sim locked financed.
A nice perk if you have a google One paid account. I got $99.90 in credit on Google (10%) as a One customer and will also get the $100 credit. I'll wait and get the pixel buds for free when they come out in the spring if my credit does not expire before then. I did not notice an expiration date but maybe I missed it.

Unfortunately the credit would expire prior to the buds being out, unless maybe they allow pre-orders very early in the year, or they release them earlier than 'spring'.
The Google One credit is good for 365 days, however the $100 promotional credit is only good until 01/31/20 11:59pm PT

My store credit dropped just before black Friday week last year. That plus $50 off the Nest home hub, that sucker was mine for $50. This year it's $100, so I'm pretty sure the Nest hello will be mine, that or an outdoor camera for really cheap. Crossing fingers it comes before then!
