[Q] xperia z kernel installing - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi you all, i have an xperia z rooted with doomlord toolkit v18, and an dual recovery 2.7.14 installed. i have successfully flashed and backed up the eXsitenZ 5.0.0 rom (by niaboc79 Great success by the way). so now iwant to install the famous doomkernel and i have a few question because the information i got from around the net is confusing.
so here are my questions:
1. Is installing the eXsitenZ means i have unlocked my BOOTLOADER?
2. do i have to unlock my bootloader in order to install DOOMKERNEL?
3. is unlocking the bootloader is irreversible?
thanks ahead for any kind of help, greetings perfect9stranger.

1. No, you only have to unlock your bootloader for a custom kernel. There is also written that the existenz is for LB(locked bootloader) and UB(unlocked bootloader).
2. Yes.
3. Before you unlock bootloader, it would be good to make a TA backup. There are DRM-keys included. If you loose them, you loose warranty.
Because once you have unlocked your bootloader, without a backup of the TA, you will never get the DRM-keys back.
So only relocking the bootloader is not always enough.
The TA includes unique data and that is the reason why you can't restore the backup of an other phone. If you do it you will hardbrick your phone.

[Q] Can I Flash STOCK after CM (if I wish to sell?)

I'm kinda worn out by the slow release of updates and would like to go CM.
Having locked bootloader, I am unclear from reading/searching if I can, say in a few months, go back to stock (flash using FlashTool?) so I can sell the phone before I upgrade?
Thanks for any tips or RTFM links. :good:
You can't flash CM with a locked bootloader. CM needs a modified kernel to work and with a LB you can't do that. But to answer your question, yes you can. Simply wipe everything before flashing with flashtool and you are good to go.

So, in my case I need to
1. Unlock Bootloader (which will erase everything, including SD card)
2. Flash CM
3. Enjoy until time comes to sell device
4. Wipe data/cache/factory reset
5. FlashTool the latest STOCK I find
Is it accurate to assume that after step 5, the only difference between my (current) stock device and then will be unlocked bootloader (with zero impact for guy who buys after me) ? As much as I want to have KitKat, I do not want the buyer to be funked with something not matching his/her needs or impaired somehow...
Thank you for the confirmation :good:

After step 5 you can relock your BL by reflashing your TA partition (which you should backup before step 1) if i'm not mistaken.
Step 1) backup TA partition.
Step 2) unlock bootloader.
Step 3) flash cm.
Use as you wish.
When you want to sell device.
Step 1) Restore TA partition.
TA restore will block to boot with modified boot image.
Step 3) flash stock fw via flashtool. Do not select or unselect anything in flashtool.
That will flash full device including sdcard.

What is the risk of not reflashing the TA partition and flashing STOCK onto unlocked BL? Not receiving OTA updates or something more complex?

You lose your DRM keys. People say bravia engine stops working on photos and some stuff with the music info downloading with walkman. Unsure about OTA updates, as i have never done those. I flash FTF as soon as they get available.
Other than that, there is nothing different.

The SD card shouldn't get wiped when unlocking but the internal storage does.

Thank you to all who pitched in - I searched the fora for "TA partition" and discovered that [NUT has written a wonderful thread for people who have my question, I wish I knew about the TA partition importance and searched earlier.
For those who follow or need the same thing, thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2458530

I tried to restore TA partition (which locks bootloader) and this soft-bricked my device. I solved it flashing stock ftf with flashtool. I have the same question, I want to have root in locked bootloader, in order to have drm, keys and dont loose x-reality, and most important bionz processor.

I backed up TA in 534 and restored in 290, I didn't know it could make problems. Anyway, how could I backup TA in 290? There is no real root for this firmware.

[Q] Couple of questions regarding unlocking and DRM keys

Hi,
I have some questions:
1- I'm completely confused as how custom ROMs like eXistenz have xReality engine or Bravia Engine and they are supposed to be flashed on unlocked boot loaders, I thought unlocking would break the functionality since it destroys the DRM keys.
2- I rooted my device when I was on 4.2.2, now I upgraded my phone to 4.3 official and I lost the root, is it possible to root it again with unlocking and then relock it again without loosing root, I did not install the custom recoveries when I had the chance, stupid me but I have backed up my TA partition at least
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Bump
Have a look in development section, there are a few rooting guides for 4.3. You will need to sort out recovery first though.
With the Bravia question, it only works if your phone bootloader isn't unlocked.
Xperia Z
Thank you but I did not get my answer as how custom roms are using bravia or xreality and how to relock without loosing root
1. Existenz can be flashed on a locked bootloader, therefore BE2 still works.
2. Yes -
- Unlock your bootloader (remember to backup your data and internal SD as both will be wiped during the process).
- Flash DooMLoRD's advanced stock kernel.
- Flash a superuser zip (I use the SuperSu zip direct from Chainfire's site).
- Flash a stock kernel.
- Restore TA backup.
You will then be on 4.3 with locked bootloader and DRM keys intact.

Unlock bootloader 4.3 290

Hey guys is it safe to unlock the bootloader running 4.3 build #290
I dont quite understand the TA backup
Its my first time to own a non nexus device so im a little scared to unlock my bootloader with other things to do
Anyhelp will be much appreciated! Thank you!

You need to backup your ta partition for warranty reason and some xperia features to work.
First root your device then backup your ta-partition and then you can safely unlock your bootloader.
To root your device Out most likely have to downgrade your firmware, then root, then backup and then you can go ahead and unlock your bootloader with the latest version of flashtool

If you don't backup TA and DRM keys and you Unlock Bootlader you will never Relock your bootlader again, you will lost warranty forever and features like X-Reality, Bionz Processing and Bravia Engine.

Don't be, I remind you that Unlock Bootlader is necessary if you want to flash Custom Roms with Custom Kernels Only, if you will not do that, you easily can Root, Install Recovery and Custom Roms on Locked Bootlader.
Hi guys thanks for the quick response imma try the thing without unlocking thw bootloader and installing dual recovery

[Q] [HELP] Rooting & relocking BL newest firmware 12.1.A.0.266

Hi everyone!
After searching for rooting newest firmware of 12.1.A.0.266 with LB, I found that it may be impossible without unlocking my BL. So I decided to unlock BL & root it via DooMLord's method and relock again. But I have a few questions.
I heard it's important to backup my TA partition before unlocking so I do a search for it. So I found that root permission is needed for backup TA. Since firmware 12.1.A.0.266 cannot be rooted, I have to downgrade to Android 4.1 and root it by DooMLord's method. It's all OK for me.
But I need to know, if I do restore my TA backup that taken while running Android 4.1, on my newest firmware 12.1.A.0.266, can it be conflicted that lasting bootloop or bricking my device? And relocking my device will it definitely lock my BL to factory status? Please be kind to help me with these questions. :good:
Thank you all

My friend,
Thanks for helping me! :good:
If I restore TA mean I'm relocking my BL. So if I flashed 4.3 again I cannot gain root access coz it cannot root without unlocked BL. Am I correct?
So how can I root 4.3, if I flash 4.3 over 4.1.2 as root is lost after flashing a new firmware.
Thank & Regards! :good:
You need to root on 4.1.2, install CWM. Download and flash a 4.3 ROM and last flash 2.266 kernel
But there are proper threads for this xD

Yes brother..... I see several threads that explaining how to do that. But I wanted to root official firmware by unlocking BL.
If I restore TA, should I relock BL after that or, first relock BL then restore TA?
Thanks!

To make it easy, unlock using flashtool. It'll automatically make a TA backup. Later when you're done flashing stock kernel you can easily click relock and it'll restore TA and relock it for you as easy as 123.

Bro,
Is that unlocking BL via Flashtool exactly same as unlocking via official Sony method? If I unlocked BL besides official method, can I relock it again successfully? And so, since official method needs to device connected with Fastboot mode, but Flachtool needs device connected via Flashmode to Unlock/Relock BL. Why is the different with this methods? Pls kindly explain this......
Thanks! :good:

Yess absolutely the same. I'm not sure about relocking it after using the official method but I think restoring the TA key actually means relocking it. Well actually you will need to fastboot on flashtool right after the flashmode. There is no difference in result. It's just an alternative way to unlock and relock. Unlocking using official Sony method is the old way of unlocking. Flashtool is just to make it easier and simpler. The result will be the same. But be sure that you make the TA backup before unlocking it for the worst case scenario not to be able to relock it
