i was wondering if anyone is making a root for the newest OTA update to the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Bulid Number- JSS15J.N900AUCUBMJ5
Don't want to use Kingo because it's not approved by XDA

The original version of Kingo is not approved. The current version has no issues. I used it and many others have. If you are worried about sending out information, then any APP you have installed is a potential threat. They do not have to list all the requirements an app needs in the store.
If you download Kingo to your PC and start to install it there is a terms of service you have to agree to. In that TOS on line 5 the makers of Kings state they do not remove, copy, or send any data from your PC or device to be rooted.
That being said if they are found to be sending any sort of data or info then you can sue them for Violation of that term.
Kingo is the only safe and brick/mistake proof method for MJ5 right now and many of us have used it with no issues.
Does Kingo trip the the KNOX flag? I really want to root this device and get rid of some of the bloatware on it. BUT since its only about 3 days old and I have a contract I don't want to make it un-replaceable if something else happens.
Also I read that 4.4 will be released... Ive been with ATT for years and have found them to be a bit slow on updates. Will we get 4.4 or not?
Thanks

Kingo does not trip KNOX. It also has the ability to be unrooted by reconnecting to PC and unrooting or Go into SU on the phone and select unroot. Then the phone will be as though you never rooted it. I have confirmed this works on MJ5 as well.
As for 4.4, I doubt you will see it on the N3. Samsung likes to hold out for the next device for the new Android version. So if they make a Note 4 then 4.4 will be released to it. The only chance N3 users have for 4.4 is if the Bootloader is ever unlocked or use Safestrap once somebody makes a ROM based on KitKat.
I'd argue we Will see kitkat myself. This is the best att has right now IMHO. And of wager at lest one more major update.

I cannot find any proper information on whether or not the GT-I9295 can be rooted or not. Googling gives me all kinds of webpages dated back in late August claiming that it can be done, but I've also come across a lot of pages saying it's not possible to root the GT-I9295 using the instructions for the AT&T version of the S4 Active.
I hoped the xda forum would give me more info, but no... unfortunately not.
Has anyone got any help to offer me on this matter? Can it be rooted? If so, anyone got a proper working howto to link to?
Thanks in advance.
Follow this guide: http://honai-android.blogspot.nl/2013/08/how-to-root-galaxy-s4-active-i9295-on.html
Or just visit:

Super thanks for this guide, whizz Worked like a charm. I had already taken a quick look at this very guide a few days ago, but was afraid to try it, because it was using the CF-Auto-Roo for the I9505, and I was a little scared it might break my phone.
To be honest, there should be a sticky on confirmed (working) root procedures for the I9295. I've had a hard time finding proper information on this. Not only in this forum, but elsewhere on the net was well.
FYI I tried the geohot a couple of weeks ago, but it didn't work on my phone.
Unless there's something funky with the device, activeroot (so named for a reason) should root any Samsung Galaxy S4 Active in a second or two at most, any variant produced so far. If you got rooted without it, fantastic but activeroot should have worked without a single issue on a stock ROM... interesting.
Only thing it's not working with right now is 4.3 based stuff, and maybe if we're lucky geohot will drop an updated activeroot at some point, at least that's my hope since we have the 4.3 pre-release ROM for our AT&T I537 variant now to play with.
But then again, 4.3 does make some changes to things, and with Samsung pushing Knox on end users pretty hard, we could be approaching a time where rooting a device - let alone unlocking the bootloader - might become just another thing of the past.

[Q] Root De La Vega thread closed, Is this Still Ideal Method to Root AT&T Note 3?
Phone: Samsung Note 3 AT&T SM-N900A
Android version: 4.3
Baseband version: N900AUCUBMJ5
Kernel version: 3.4.0-1625098; [email protected] #1
Build number: JSS15JN900AUCUBMJ5

Hi everyone,
This is a general root question thread so I hope you guys can be patient with me as I'm coming from an iPhone.
1.) After rooting a phone with any available methods, I can go ahead and install a stock rooted ROM or custom ROM right? No one specific ROM requires my phone to be rooted using a specific method in order to install it, right? For example: De La Vega root method only works if I want a stock ROM. I can use any ROM i want after I have my phone rooted.
2.) Currently, 3 methods of rooting AT&T Note 3 exists that doesn't trip the Knox counter: De La Vega, Kingo, and VROOT.
3.) Since De La Vega root thread closed, are people still using this method to root their AT&T Note 3?
4.) If I want to unroot and bring the phone back to warranty work, which instruction do I use?
5.) What is MJ1, MJ5, etc? Are these custom ROM names?
6.) I installed the OTA software that was released a few days ago. As long as I use Tibu now and prevent AT&T from downloading future OTA updates, I can go ahead and root my device correct?
---------------------------------------------------------------
The reason I want to root my phone are for these purposes. Can anyone please tell me if these can be achieved after rooting? And if so, is there a guide?
1.) Remove in-app Google ads
2.) Uninstall all the useless apps installed by AT&T and Samsung

I am no expert here, but nobody has answered so I'll do my best with what I know/understand
1. To my knowledge, custom ROMs on AT&T GN3 are a no go due to the locked bootloader. It doesn't matter which root method you use.
2. I've heard of all three of those methods working, and haven't heard of Knox being tripped yet.
3. XDA approved De La Vega and people still do use it as there has been some question to malware concerns with Kingo/VROOT. I'd go deeper into that, but look up "Kingo Malware" anywhere on the forums and you can make your own decision as it's a well worn topic. With that said, I do not believe De La Vega works with the newest build/update MJ5 yet.
4. This depends on which root method you used. De La Vega has instructions in the thread on how to flash back to stock. Kingo has an "unroot" built into it that I believe works (I believe it because I haven't seen anyone saying it does not, but cannot confirm). Either way, there is a way for those methods to return to stock.
5. These aren't custom to ROM names, these are firmware versions/updates. You may know firmware/basebands from iPhone jailbreaking. MJ5 is the most recent update the Note received from AT&T.
6. Again, to my knowledge, the universal root method De La Vega has does not support MJ5 yet (which is the OTA you have now). Kingo people have rooted with MJ5 however.
You can get rid of in-app and internet ads once you're rooted with a number of ad blockers. The forums have reviews and suggestions, but a Google search will help you decide.
You can also delete the bloatware (extra apps) when rooted. The best way I've found to do this is to first freeze the apps to see if disabling them causes any problems, and only deleting when I know doing so doesn't cause a headache. There are also threads discussing apps that are OK to delete.
I'm using Android as my daily driver now after having used the iPhone primarily for the past 5 years. I've had Android in the past (SII Skyrocket) but the Note 3 just blew me away and made me return the 5s. The forums here are a wealth of information and if you have some patience and read through the threads you'll be good to go. Good luck!
Thank you so much for the wealth of knowledge!
I see where the MJ5 is the firmware version now... It's the last 3 letters/number of the entire baseband version
Also, say for example 4.4 Kitkat releases for Note 3 and I am rooted, am I able to upgrade and keep root at the same time? AFAIK, I cannot update OTA if I am rooted...
This is just like an iPhone jailbreak and the answer is usually no. An update tends to break your root in which case you're SOL until a root for that firmware is made.

Root de la Vega will not work for MJ5 firmware. You will brick your phone if you try and there is no current recovery for this type of brick.

Just tools for customizing a rooted phone (or at least a rooted Samsung phone - I don't know if Wanam is for all phones). Lets you do a lot of commonly requested things. It's one of the must-get apps for rooted devices with a locked bootloader.

Thats bad.
The only thinh you can do to fix that by now is to bring the phone to ATT and make up something so that they know the phone wont work no more. They will try to fix it .. but I believe they cant. Then they will offer you a replacement since its still under warranty. I think thats all what you can do .

Put it in the microwave for 5 seconds. It will blow the radio and that will require a replacement and there is no way to prove how it was blown. Just remove the battery before you put it in the microwave...

No, I would use the 12 volts across the battery terminal method... blows the various regulators and anything else that may exist on the battery buss....
Here is probably not the best place to be discussing fraud.

You could do that, but that is pretty much verifiable by a tech that you did it on purpose or used a wrong power source battery, which voids the warranty in either case. The microwave method cannot be verified as it looks like the radio just got blown by a strong RF signal like a nearby CB or shortwave which can happen in reality.

I heard Kingo is a malware app. Can anybody confirm? Some of the rumors I heard is that your imei is send to a server in China.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
That was an older version, XDA has approved of the current version. Should be in another thread . or one of the other umpteen million threads on this subject. Regardless many have used it including myself with no issue. Even if it did send your IEMI somewhere there is nothing they can do with it. Only the original owner of the phone can add or remove it from a blacklist.
This process uses the RDLV method to get root on MJ5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559715
Kingo maintains that they're legit, and a lot of people have used it here without problems.
You should have used SuperSU survival mode (others here have claimed it worked for getting the OTA update to MJ5 while keeping root).
I was given a note 3 that unfortunatley had already been updated to 4.4.2 kitkat OTA. Like many users I searched around for a root process that would work. Currently there are many working root processes for all the carriers besides AT&T . So if you're like me and would like to root your note 3 AT&T put your research here. Could we possibly get help from rooting experts to give us *possible* or *theoretical* ways to root this device! even if it requires downgrading? Just want my root apps back!

I have the AT&T S5 running Lollipop.
I don't recall - but I *think* I got this device before Lollipop was released. I got the device in May'14. My research shows that Lollipop came out Nov'14.
So - if I got the device with the prior release - but it's running Lollipop now - is there a way to root it?
Thanks.

If you are on the official 5.0+ ota, through any means other than the prerooted flashfire method, there is no known way to downgrade, root, etc. If you flashed the ota for lollipop, bought your phone and it had lollipop, or took the ota, and it is an att s5 (G900A) then it is not, at the time of me posting this, possible to downgrade to KitKat or root or anything of the sort.

Does anyone have the firmware for the lollipop on s5 active?
Does anyone know if models of S5 being sold as new now are being released with lollipop or kitkat preinstalled?
Is there a way to know by serial number on the box?
The reason I am asking is I just purchased one online a few days ago on the daily steals website has it was advertised As new and unlocked. I did not realize being that I am from Canada that this was a lockdown AT&T model. It is scheduled to arrive in the next day or so and I would prefer not to open the box and affect my ability to return it without restocking fee if it already comes with lollipop on it. Hi I'm less concerned about achieving root and more concerned about having the ability to native flea tether on my plan back here in Canada.
Also if it did come with lollipop firmware preinstalled, is there a way to enable native tethering on the phone if root is not achievable?
