[Q] How to backup individual files on I9000 with broken ROM? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
My Samsung Galaxy S I9000, which runs on the GamerzRom (can't specify the version, sorry for that) doesn't want to turn on properly anymore - it just stays on the blinking "X" screen, so I guess it has problems with running the system. Normally, I'd just wipe data and cache and reinstall the whole system, but now I have some important files on my phone and I can't lose them. I'd like to backup my files and reinstall the system, but I don't know how to do the proper backup (it would be easier if I was able to do it when the phone loads system properly, but it doesn't).
How to backup these things? For example, notes are important and I need to have them when I reinstall my system.
I can only run the phone on the ClockWorkMod or Download mode.

You can make a backup with CWM and later pull out files from the backup with 7-zip.
If you don't know; you can mount USB mass storage with CWM (Mount and storage = > Mount USB storage).

I think I screwed my phone :(

I downloaded the HydracoreNirvana kernel and installed it through CWM.
Later I thought of installing the Ultimate N7000 XXLSZ JellyBean 4.1.2 v5.2 ROM but I read somewhere that the HydraCoreNirvana kernel was not supported so I download SpeedMod K5-1 and flashed it through odin. The phone Rebooted but it didn't restart. It only showed the "Samsung Galaxy Note" screen and won't turn on.
I managed to boot into recovery and install the SpeedMod kernel and then, as stated in the ROM's OP, I flashed it checking every step as I took.
ROM was installed successfully but after the Language selection screen it shows "Samsung SetupWizard has stopped". I tried reflashing the ROM but its still the same error.
How do I get past this??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okayy. That worked. Thanks a lot!
But the phone is lagging a lot now. Its even worse than before (And I haven't even installed any apps myself yet!). Any way to correct that problem?
install Titanium Backup and remove some of the apps that you dont use.. clear some space and it should become smooth.. also as you have just installed the rom, wait for media scanner to finish... give it a couple of hours
Okay.. One last question, I backed up my Messages and Call Logs through Titanium Backup to an .xml file but now when I want to restore it it doesn't give me the option to select from card/phone. It only shows "DB text editor" and "Dropbox". How do I fix this?
check if your internal and ext SD is detected properly. also check in TB preferences for the location of the backup folder
Yes, the Ext. card and the SD card are detected properly. I copied the backed up .xml files to the existing back up folder for TB but it still doesn't give me the option to restore from the card.
did you try going to preferences>backup folder location> detect
It says "No backup location was found" even though I've set a backup location!
may be try reinstalling TB

[Q] Urgent help I am stupid!! - Wiped all!

Hi!
I accidently selected Format Data in twrp instead of Factory Reset (bad morning anyway). So everything is gone... or is it?
In sdcard folder I had twrp backup and also titanium backup made. Is there a way to restore either or bot of these or if possible whole sdcard folder any way.
TWRP is working and I get adb connection to phone. However I needed way to mount phone /data/media or /data folder in windows when in bootloader/recovery etc mode... is there a way?
Actually situation is not so bad at all!! I reboot my phone and ARHD 71.1 is up & running - however all my data is lot includin backups. So now situation is anyway easier because I can mount my phone in win 7. What should be best program for restoring /data/sdcard?
I would be very very pleased if someone could help me in this situation!!

[Q] can't take photos + read/write error

rooted, stock lollipop 5.0.2, problem started out of nowhere this afternoon...
camera won't let me take photos as it asks for an SD card. even after i insert an SD card, the error persists.
opening quickpic gives me the following errors...
Code:
not an error (code 0) could not open the database in read / write mode
Code:
unable to open database file (code 14)
can't delete ANY files manually in ES file explorer even with root explorer enabled.
booted into TWRP and cleared cache and dalvik to no avail.
seems like the phone can't read or write any data, except installing/uninstalling apps via google play still works. seems to be the same problem addressed in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/read-write-errors-advice-solved-t2323801 although i don't know how to identify the corrupt file(s) and delete them or fix permissions...
help!!
...bump?
basically wen that happens is because a file or folder is corrupted, it maybe in any place on your phone really difficult to find. That usually happens after you flash some (app, script), restore a TWRP backup, or a app that have root access doing the wrong thing.
i had this problem two times.
In the 1°, i fix by going in the TWRP, and erased my internal memory, after reboot all good.
this case was very simple i copy every file to pc, erase, after restore the one i need, and everything was fine...
In the 2°, i try that and was not successful, i need to re install the stock rom via fastboot from xml rom file to completed clean my OS.
In both cases, i was not able to make a Titaniumbackup, so i lost some data of a fill apps in the second (because i make a backup every week, if i didn't have it i probably lost everything).
If you don't use titanium, and don't wanna to loose things and app files etc, you can try copy everything on internal and external memory, by plugin on the device to a PC, after a TWRP backup of yours data, after wipe, dalvik cache, data, internal storage, cache, system, re flash the same rom you are now, and after test and see if you can write, restore the data backup.
But that data may corrupted your phone again, because the problem maybe in that.
So if after restore the data all goes bad, redo everything and do not restore data, you will lose app and data, but app can be reinstated.
:good:

thank you, i used this as an opportunity to wipe and flash cyanogen. so far so good (seems much smoother too).

Personal data lose after nandroid backup and advanced wipe: HOW RECOVERY FILE? :(

I had a big problem with the backup of my moto x 2014, i lost photos, videos and download of the internal memory of my phone! :crying:
I made a Nandroid with TWRP 3.0 Recovery by selecting all the internal partitions of the phone as: a system, date, boot, efs, cache .. So all the internal partitions and made up of external usb otg pendrive (since the moto x has no sd external)
Everything went well and after he finished the backup to external USB OTG I did a wipe advanced as I had backup !!
The problem is that when I restored all were gone all my photos and personal file are lost !
If he did not do a Nandroid A COPY MIRROR OF ALL MEMORY? Why it has not included in the DATA partition, even my files?
I did not know did not backup personal files!
Now what interests me is: There are software type PhotoRec to recover even low-level files from the internal memory of the phone because in theory are still there? and they have not been overwritten ...
If they were an external memory there was no problem photorec enough, but in the internal memory of the phone that use software?
Please I need suggestions! Thank you.

Twrp does backup your data if you select it.
Photorec won't work. If you don't have a backup they are gone forever.

"Twrp does backup your data if you select it."
..Are you really sure ?
Because I have selected all of the flags from Backup in TWRP 3.0 , included DATE, but when I restored the Nandroid when I go in the Downloads folder or camera or other folders these are empty !! nothing files! why ?
There is a way to "scan" low-level partition of the internal memory of the phone as it happens on hdd computers ?
Some recovery software might work for you.. Root access is necessary for that, usb cable, adb enable.. Thats it! Google it don't remmeber the name android recovery or idk.. Last tried year ago one note 3 kitkat.

Phone turns off in fastboot

Hey, writing for a friend of mine with that device having a problem to start from scatch. Initially a problem with titanium backup restore, he then tried to restore a twrp backup and now he did want to flash via fastboot. But as soon as you do anything in miflash the device simply turns off.
I did recognize in twrp that internal storage is gone (ni data/media folder, also several other root folders are gone).
Any tipp what to do now?
(Edit after formating data the 3rd time Internal storage is back again. Trying to restore the backup 'data' halts with error 255, and after restart tough system restore was successfull twrp reports unable to find system. Still not booting and fastboot shuts diwn, though now with msg "press any key to shutdown")
Edit2 partly solved. After additional tries it woul restore more and more, could boot into system, but no data restore, and then data too. So the system is working again, but the problem with miflash resides which might be needed some time.
The problem is that you're trying to access fastboot from a USB 3 port. You must use a 2.0 or lower port (it is a limitation of the fastboot interface itself). Good luck
