[Q] [Question] App for text messaging? - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone recommend an app that allows a Droided TouchPad to send/receive your SMS text messages - basically function like the WebOS/Pre3 phones did?
I know Bluetooth is a little flakely depending on the ROM, but just looking for an outright app recommendation so I don't have to keep checking my phone versus my TouchPad for texts and whatnot.
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks,
McBean

Mighty Text works good. It even has a chrome extention to let you text from your computer as well.

Try zipwhip, works well enough on all platforms.

Lost SMSs

Hi,
I'm having some problems with text messages: i simply do not receive some of them, like they are not even sent, like my phone deletes them when they just arrive. I'm having this problem with both stock and ics. Is anyone else having the same problem?

Get intouch with your network provider as they will be able to do checks.

It is not a network problem, it is like my phone doesn't give the priority to the message app. So it closes that app when it's out of ram, and sometimes it receive the SMS but doesn't show any notification, sometimes it's like it deletes the message before showing it... I does have this problem with both stock messaging app, go SMS or handcent...

[Q] Call & SMS Forwarding

Is there any option or app to auto forward SMS to another phone? I am also looking for the option to have my calls auto forwarded in evenings and weekends.
Any ideas?
Give WP an app similar to "Tasker" for Android! Really miss it :-\

No. The OS doesn't allow access to calls or SMS. You can use GSM control codes to forward calls, but the phone can't even set that automatically.

By the spec, you should be able to forward SMS messages too. *21*number*16# but it doesn't work on lots of carriers, including ATT.

[Q] Can the Gear get notifications from 3rd party SMS apps?

Or do I NEED to use the TouchWiz messaging app? Because I use EvolveSMS, so i was wondering if I'd still receive text message notifications on the Gear? Thanks.
Was gonna buy one today, but I saw online that the Galaxy Gear 2 is dropping in a couple of weeks with the S5! So I'll probably just wait for the Gear 2. But still wondering this question... thanks to anyone that ca help!
I use EvolveSMS and the notifactions work I can even read them just can't respond with the gear or S Voice just open on phone to respond

That kinda really sucks lol. That's the whole point to be able to respond too!
You could always send through the stock messaging app but personally i don't like S Voice kind of slow and the sound is always broke up compared to Google voice

What else can you do thru the Gear, rather than using your phone? I know you can make/accept/deny calls... but what else?! Can I, let's say, send a tweet?

I can send a tweet from mine. Although a bit of a different topic...I can also start my car from mine (directed smart start), control my thermostat at home (Nest), watch live TV (Slingplayer), get emails, check sportscenter app, sign into bank app, check fandango etc. You can do just about anything with it. Granted some things might not be as practical as when done on your phone but can be convenient on the gear in certain situations.
Oh... And I get my text notification via Handcent sent to my gear but as mentioned before I can't reply directly from that notification. I usually just send a text command through s voice to respond.

That's F'ING SICK!!! Can't wait, I'm 100% getting the Gear 2 when it comes out, I'm so excited. But what do you mean by your last statement "I usually just send a text command through s voice to respond."??
I get my text notifications through Handcent but you can't type a response or a pre typed response from that message view. I just activate s voice on the gear and say "text whomever". The gear will process that and respond with "whats your message?" I speak my message, it responds by showing a printed version of what I said and asks to confirm if I want to send it. I say yes and it sends the text.
Oh and for most of the other things I mentioned above, the gear of course requires Internet access via blue tooth tethering. Easily doable though.

Yeah I figured that. Can't wait for the Gear 2! Thanks for the info!
How is it that you can respond to texts through S Voice i deleted the stock messaging app and use EvolveSMS but can't respond with it
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
It isn't a "direct" response per se but when I use s voice to send a text back to the person that texted me it sends it and it falls in line with the rest of the conversation in Handcent. If that makes sense.

To me it sound like you are sending through the stock app but prefer to use handcent do you still have the stock app on your phone..

I use GoSMS, but whenever I get MMS I open up the stock messaging app (so I can respond while watching the video). Any messages sent/received go to both Messaging and GoSMS, so if I were to use a gear, I imagine I would get notifications on the gear through GoSMS and then just use S Voice to respond (through Messaging). When I go on my phone later, both SMS apps would still have the entire conversation.
Problem is what about when/if your phone is running KitKat and you can only run 1 messaging app....?!

SMS apps with least battery usage..

I've been using Hangouts lately for SMS needs but lately, I have not been receiving a notification for every new message. I have all the default notification settings turned on and I still won't get every notification...
Essentially, I'm asking what messaging apps we all use on the HTC One that don't hog the battery. I want to change messaging apps but I feel that the popular messaging apps on the Play Store are huge battery drains with their hundreds of useless functions and features.
I'd like to use the default messaging app but I can NOT stand the 5 lines of the message editor that show up every time I go to reply to a text message. Its just a nit-picky thing, but it bothers me that it wastes all that real estate on the screen with empty space...
Can't wait to see what everybody thinks and I'll be conducting some battery tests in the days to come as well. :good:
I was using 8sms and loving it. Just moved back to android after a spell with an iPhone. Won't get my One back until May.

I enjoy using Textra, simple, fast, light, and has all the features you'd need
If you're on kitkat, EvolveSMS looks really good with the kitkat theme though last I'd checked its interface was slightly laggy. Great app nonetheless
Does evolve sms allow mms over WiFi ?

I'm not sure but when I tried evolve it was compressing my photos even after adjusting the mms settings. The stock mms app didn't compress the same photo

I've been pleased with hello sms. Multiple recipient messages actually work, and it's relatively light. Best of all, it's very nicely organized.
One issue though: sending picture messages is wonky due to square reformatting. I still use the stock app for this, but changes get picked up by hello without issue.
That was my issue with hangouts. Mms was problematic most days.

One other problem with Hello SMS is that we cannot delete individual messages from a thread. We can only delete the entire thread, not a particular message from it.

Replying to Texts While Paired to a Galaxy S5

Has anyone with a Galaxy S5 (using the stock Messaging app) had a problem with responding to SMS text messages from their watch? For me, I'm given the option to reply, but as soon as I do, it just shows the green circle with the check mark and says replied. No voice typing prompt ever comes up. Has anyone found a workaround? I really don't want to use Hangouts for SMS, or any other texting app for that matter, because the stock app integrates very nicely with the S-View cover window on the phone. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Workarounds?

8sms until Samsung updates the stock app to be compatible with Android Wear.

I have the exact same problem, using it with my GS5... The only work around i found is to use google now using your voice to reply...
