[Q] 3G network signal - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hey guys,
I recently bought this phone (sh), I believe it is from malaysia (or at least the rom was).
Since then I flashed v20b EUR, rooted, unlocked and applied iodak kernel.
I am still tweaking it and thinking about using Zaiben, but until then I want to ask you about the phones network signal.
In my case, I have very weak signal on 3G (2g signal is almost always maxed out, but the call quality is bad).
I have tried setting the phone to "only 3G" and indeed the signal is slightly better, but still fairly bad.
Additionally, better battery stats reports full time of "No or unknown signal".
Pls keep in mind that the 3G signal is very good in my area (two other phones have max signal).
My question is:
Can something be done? Would changing the baseband help? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2329768
Is there any Romanian user on Orange network that can relate or share his baseband?
Thanks

About BBS:
It's normal that it says "No or unkown signal". Me too had this once and I've googled a little bit and found out it's normal. So don't worry about that.
If you're updating from v10 to v20, you have to update the baseband.

I flashed from 20a ESA to 20b EUR using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2134192
I assume it also changed the BBS. Just to check, I have "L6260_MODEM_SIC_02.1233.00"
The thing is, I also get no signal %. In 6 hours I get 14% time without signal
I am sure this is not normal and not good for the battery.

{fd}ware said:
Maybe a stupid question, but did you even wiped data (Factory reset) after flashing?

Nothing is stupid, most of the time its simple things that cause big trouble.
Yes, I did wipe and reset when I flashed. I also wiped cache and dalvik several times when trying different kernels.

If nothing else seems to work maybe try changing the baseband manually as stated in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2329768
Good luck

yeah, I was hoping someone had gone thru this before and knew more. I don't know if I will have the time to try them all.

well v20a is even worse
going for 10h next

v10h is pretty much the same as v20b eur
I am back on v20b

I noticed dough that it is affected by death grip
from -97 to -113 thats almost 3 lines

Every phone is affected by death grip since a lot of manufactorers put phone anthena around device edges.Untill you loose network it isnt a big problem at least for me.

Radio 1.10.25.18

Some of ya'll may have noticed. There is a new Xperia Radio released.
1.10.25.18
Link: ftp://minftp.myftp.org/XperiaX1i/RADIOS_WORKING_ON_X1/Radio_1.10.25.18.rar
ftp://x1:[email protected]/XperiaX1/RADIOs/XPERIA_Radio_1.10.25.18.rar
Some withnissed better signal/battery preformace. And some withnessed worse signal and wors battery preformance.
And some can't flash the radio back to the original one!!!
So watch out.
Share you're Radio 1.10.25.18 experience here.
Myself, I havn't flashed yet. I want to hear the others first.
Better battery power for sure, but people have said my phone is unavailable sometimes even though my phone is on.
I came now to XDA download the old radio...
Mine have a better battery life and improved signal reception using 1.10.25.18, but sometimes it cannot regain the signals when got a blank spot.
Smaberg has gone back to stock, he flashed a HD radio first.
I think it's more to do with the radio that was "stock" was set as 0x301 rather than 0x300.
Anyway I much prefer the new one.. To get the signal back (it seems after testing it goes into a low power mode if loses signal for a long time) turn the phone part off and on again in com manager.

I always have full 3G signal at home (UK Voda) with the stock ROM so think will give this a miss. Absolutely hated having to go to CommMgr to get it back when I was using Hermes on T-Mobile.
I have good signal with both, maybe better with the new one, but nothing radical. I am at Helsinki Finland and we do have good HDSPA coverage about everywhere here, so its not really about that.
If the phone loses signal by itself and when people call they cant reach me, I dont know about you guys but that kinda is against the purpose having a mobile phone on.
Also the battery life is better with the new one, but its by no means poor on the old one. Compared to HTC Touch Pro I would say I get 35%-40% more time on my X1 with the old too. And I had the Touch Pro security unlocked so I basically tested every radio thats available.
Im back with the original radio for now.
For me was the same experience with this and the stock radio, still miss signal in some close spaces... .. battery almost the same..
Can't test 3G cause i'm using X1i and need X1a here in Mexico.
I'm gonna test HD latest radio and see what happens..

I think you're more likely to find better battery life if you have a marginal signal to start with
what did you use to flash back with?
if some are reporting problems, then it would be good to know a fool proof way
sorry about the spaces, trying out ShapeWriter, not convinced so far.......
I saw marginal difference on the signals between these 2 radios. I have very good reception in my city all over...
I went back to 1.06.25.29, device information shows the correct radio version. I used the normal Radio Update Utility. Or what did you mean?
Carrier/operator/provider's signal strength and coverage has A LOT TO DO here. Thus, results will differ for each user
I have posted some fieldtest results ("radio's" thread) but I ain't no good comparison point because my operator has strong signal and coverage: Full-bars always for me, wherever I go whatever radio I flash (except for the Diamond Radio 1.09.25.23 of course, what a crap - at least for me)
@Xmoo
Conclusion: I think this is a very personal decission and you should take a chance and throw the dice, run your odds

Yeap.. my device is security unlocked.. I have successfully upgraded my ROM Radio...
Maybe Gtrab is right.. and every Radio depends of the Country, Carrier, Antennas and lots of stuff.. maybe the Radios are not going to solve all our reception problems.. (at least not mines )
I forgot to ask.. has anyone tried those Antenna Booster (As seen on TV) Stickers?? Does that really works on the Xperia??
Hmz mayb the bad signal is a hardware issue then???

i dont think so, ihad 3 xperias, and 5 of my friends got it, and all are the same, crappy signal, but when turning off 3g the gsm reception is GREAT almost as good as my SE905C, maybe crappy 3g chip for some frequences.

NO WAY !!!
I just received my X1A, inserted my ole SIM and YAHOOOO !!! "H" icon came up !!! Now I have both X1i and X1A, X1i picking GSM/EDGE and X1A picking WCDMA/HSDPA from the same 850MHz carrier
BOTH SHOW 4 (four) FULL BARS (both on radio 1.06.25.29)
ONLY DIFFERENCE is the sweet HSDPA SPEEEEEEED: boosted from 107 Kbps to 2,156 kbps !!! (and this was a "raw" out-of the box test, let me optimize and tweak please, yipeee)
I LOVE my carrier !!!
PS: I'll test in other areas around the city later and get back to tell ya

Could this be used to solve the fd issue for our phone too??

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1712141
I'm gonna give it a try and see if it could work with our phones too when I get the time to spend on my computer.... anyone else got the time to try it out sooner?

It could be helpful, but i think this issue regarding battery life is more likely caused by the network architecture. In Romania, i`m on Orange network and overnight with 3G data on phone loses about 8-10% batt. When switched another operator SIM, it only wasted 3% overnight with same condition.
So, overall it might be useful that clue but i doubt these rom`s wouldn`t have those settings for Orange romania and would have those settings for Cosmote network...
Anyway, might be good tryin`.
I think this could even be useful to our ICS ROM, just go ahead and post it on FB, maybe the others can try I am still short of time...

Strange

I had UK 10h preinstalled on my device, after a soft brick UK 10h wouldn't download so I had to install Europe 10h. Since doing this my phone seems to last longer and feels faster with the same setup as before, just thought someone might find this interesting

most likely because you got rid of a bad app or reanabled something you had disabled or messed something up
or it just feels that way as i cant see why it would actualy last longer .

It was bad out of the box before I rooted or anything, also the keyboard was buggy, auto capitalizing between words and stuff and 3g network kept freezing. Maybe it was a bad flash from the factory or something, but I'm using it the same as before and getting better deep sleep and no more network bugs, its a mystery but I'm happy

[Q] Battery is horrible, tried everything!

Hello,
I came here to ask for help.
i bought this device about ~2 months ago.
firsly i didnt notice it, but as time passed and it got worse i noticed my battery is draining un-logicly fast.
my battery got bad and i had to replace it (it got fat, was some cheap chinese battery).
i got an original LG battery, thought it will solve the problem.
it didnt.
depends on use, my battery drains from 100% to 0% in about 2-4 hours. (depends on 3G on/off, screen on time, if im playing games.)
i downloaded BBS, nothing looks unusual.
still, i tried every solution i found that was suggested in this forum:
I did a factory reset/full wipe.
I froze most of the bloat. (lg stock apps)
nothing help, and the phone is not really use-able with this kind of horrible battery life.
im running stock 4.1.2, 20a.
any suggestions? im frustrated.
Thanks in advance and sorry for my english.

Why dont you take the phone to service? Do you have your warranty? If you tryed everything else, this is your only solution..
@yoeleli I guess you have got root did you did factory reset after rooting your device? If not then try it if you are using stock rom.

Try a custom Rom and kernel, and under clock the kernel. The way to tell a bad battery is to put it on a flat hard surface, if it lays flat it's still good, if not then it's time to get a new one, this phone notoriously has a bad battery life and we need to squeeze as much out of it as we can which can be a challenge, buy a portable charger will help too!
The more the battery Discharges the more damage it does, keeping it topped up and constantly charging is good. To my knowledge anyways.
see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48894811
Yep we should avoid to drain battery complitly but once in a while dropping to 3-5% and then charging it can be good.
Sent from my LG-P880 using Tapatalk
I Bought a new OEM battery a few days before i wrote this thread because i suspected that was the problem.
it didnt help.
any suggested ROMS and kernels?
Bump. Battery is horrible and i dont know which rom should i flash..
i prefer something stockish or aosp/cm. only bugs free is important.
suggestions?
Try cm11 official nightly i am currently on it and i got 2:40 hours onscreen time without any tweaks. You must firat update CWM then download it and flash gaps.I am using dalvik build gaps and rom.
Sent from my LG-P880 using Tapatalk
Iv'e heard cm11 got a camera bug, is it true?
Zaiben RC7 is very good in battery and stability. Zaiben modded stock kernel is very good also. You should try it.
Meanwhile? What is your deep sleep percentage?
Try greenify on your most used apps, i helps a lot...

Sittin here in a tmobile store, lookin at a display N5

Some of you may remember me havin some complaints about my n5 droppin searvice randomly. I was about to get an rma. Im glad i didnt.
I have tried everything to fix it. So last resort is to rma the device.
So, i was waitin in a tmobile store to pay my bill, and i started playin with a display nexus 5. Luckily, the phone was hooked up to their LTE network. So i got an idea and started a download. Low and behold guess what happens. The same EXACT thing my phone does.
And out of all irony the song "I want my money back, I want my money back" is playing in the store.
I dont think an rma is the solution here.

Never ever had this problem. Guess its because of your service provider. In your location the infrastructure of your service provider is propably not as good as you think.
as well as im not having such an issue with tmobile. but im in nyc, and tmobiles network in the area is fairly new and improved.
Hmm... I get a great lte signal all around town. Mostly 43mbps, when it works. I heard the n5 uses some new "low power lte" or somethin. Maybe they have issues with it here?

not really low power lte, but the newer lte radio that the n5 uses does do much better on battery than previous versions of lte.
I'm in Arizona with tmobile and I sometimes have my network drop maybe at least once a day.
No network drops in Vegas...
Definitely it's a N5 issue. I'm in Europe and I have this problem. I remember reading in forums about that when I bought my phone. As long as I was on 4.4.2 I never had a single issue. After updating on 4.4.4 I have network issues few times a day.

its called a network issue for a reason. its an issue with your network, not the device. i didnt have issues on on 44, 441, 442, 443, nor 444. network issues relate to your network.
Well if it is my network, how come when i lose the network, sometimes the phone will also reboot. Dont think thw network would cause that

just as your phone shouldnt be rebooting. so your "network issue" can be related to whatever you are running on your phone. that would be on the personal level, so id check into what i am running. my nexus 5 has never had an issue with rebooting.

Reflash stock firmware, clean. Go a few days without any apps installed. This will show if its phone/network related, or app related.
If it still acts up on fresh install. Try someone elses Sim, preferably on another network. If it's OK... Then you've narrowed it down to your Sim, or again, you're network.
Process of elimination. ?
Same thing happens to me on AT&T. It has happened with 3 separate N5s and doesn't happen with my Moto X. Yeah, it's an N5 problem. The radio in this phone is garbage.

Stock. Every N5 I have owned has been stock, and all have had network dropping issues, and all have had difficulty maintaining LTE. No problems with my Moto X, none with my iPhone 5s when I had it, and none with any other LTE phone I've owned while on AT&T. Just the Nexus 5.

i think that you are the one actually not seeing the issue. your phone drops data, you watched the store phone lose data as well. your phone and that other is on the same network. it doesnt sound like a phone issue, it sounds as if its your local network that is having the issue.
It's a radio/network combo issue. I never had drops on the 4.4 radio. Since 4.4.1 and above, i get these network drops on a daily basis.
Go to your battery stats, look for cell standby and check the "time without a signal" percentage. I usually have 10-11% of my uptime.
I got fed up with this crap, so reverted earlier today to the 4.4 radio (1.0.25.0.17). Still too early to make any judgment.
