[Q] Touchpad reboots when i play games - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone
I'm currently running 10.1 and I've downloaded a couple of those crystal bubble games, the trouble is when I play them my touchpad will run the game for x amount of time and then randomly freeze and reboot. Is anyone having this problem?
James

This could happen for a number of reasons but from my experience it happened from 2 things: having less than 500mb storage space and/or running too many apps in the background.
The remedies are using Tailor in webOS to increase partition size and greenify works well to hibernate apps when you don't use them.

Another thing to consider....make sure that you have the current updates for the games and that they are compatible with the android system you are running. Also, you might want to update the rom to the most current one if you haven't already.

Apps automatically starting up, by themselves

Hello all,
I recently bought my N1 about 4 days ago. So far its been great. Easily one of the best phones I've ever owned. However, I am having this problem where apps in android seem to startup by themselves. I'm using Advanced Task killer to kill em but ill kill them and then like a minute later they're back up and running without me starting them. Its quite annoying as my battery is taking a beating from it having to close and open apps and repeat. The biggest offenders of this are the voice apps such as voice search, voice dialer, Google voice (which isn't even setup), and the amazon mp3 store. A few third party apps I downloaded tend to do this as well.
Have any of you guys experienced this? Is there any way to fix it? Thanks in advance! XD

Do not worry about app running in the background, what you are probably seeing is the list of what was run, Android is verry good at managing memory, in fact I do not even use a task manager and I am fine with it.
Well that's the thing. Some of these apps that startup I have never run such as the mp3 store. So I close it and I get an additional 10megs of memory. But then it just starts back up. So I don't know how to stop it all together.

There are apps that automatically run in the background but don't effect performance like Google voice voice dialer etc..what I did was add them to the ignore list. Trust me those apps are always running no matter how many times you close them

Like has already been said, stop worrying about it. Those apps are NOT stealing memory, they're NOT using battery.
Free memory does not benefit you. Android will automatically load apps in to memory so that they are available to switch to fast as possible.
You should not kill apps unless they are bisbehaving. Killing off apps forces Android to load them back into memory if its algorithm thinks you are likely to use it. The act of loading data into memory uses power and Android tries hard to avoid it.
I was obsessed with managing my memory and running apps when I bought my nexus one. Everyone at that time suggested task killers so I got one of those. I had crappy performance with random sluggishness. I figured I just needed to kill off more apps. Eventually I read an article from an Android dev explaining this stuff and I backed off and have had a much better experience since.
I wish Google was more vocal on this subject. Everyone thinking auto task killing is a necessity on Android really gives it a black eye.

2) App that loses focus goes to background. That's the way OS is built. If you want apps to be killed on losing focus, get iOS 3 to run on your device.
3) The market has task killers because they can be written for multitasking OS, and because they help dealing with bad apps. Not for any other reason.
4) The OS loads some of your most used tasks when it runs, even if you don't know about it. Just loads in the memory, and allocates no CPU time. If you leave your phone unattended, your free memory goes down by itself. Why? Because free memory is wasted memory. You can check the "EMPTY" processes in Astro, for example.
5) The best task killer is careful selection of your apps. You see hangups? Find out the app that's doing it and remove it, or kill it specifically after running if it's necessary.

Remove your task killer (or, if you insist, just clear the auto-kill list), erase all you think you know about memory management - because you don't know - and stop worrying.

Ram being used alot

My ram on my phone is always low I delete running apps but then apps run again at random
Any suggestions

Like its been said in many post the only way to stop this is to root you phone and use an app like titanium pro to freeze the apps you don't use there will always be some thing running in the background that's androids way of pre loading apps so they run faster when you call the app to run. Wile apps are in ram there not using cpu cycles or battery only when the phone pre loads these apps dose it use a small amount of cpu cycles.

Samsung Galaxy S mysterious ram usage cm10.1

Hey there, this problem might have been discussed before but I wasn't able to find it, so the problem is with ram usasage, I once went to the apps in settings and on the running apps I always see 250mb+ ram used by something, then I killed all the apps, but that just made a dliference of 50mb ram, It's real anoying because when I want to switch between apps it's slow and when I turn a browser back on after using aother app the page realoads which I guess wpuldn't happen with 300 mb ram, does anyone know the reason for this, I am currently running cm10.1.
Thanks!

Free RAM is useless. It just sits there sucking up power and being available in case you need it. It's pretty much a waste to have 300 MB of RAM and then only use 100 MB. Instead you should try to keep your RAM full at all times with the things you are likely to need in the near future. For example, if your phone is currently only using 20% of your RAM but already caches the browser in case you'll use it soon it will be faster to load the browser. If you decide to use the music player on the other hand the cached browser can be overwritten with the music player without requiring any additional time, so no harm is done.
Modern systems don't have "free" and "in use" RAM, they have "free" (wasted space), "in use" and "cached". You shouldn't look at the amount of free RAM but rather the amount of actually used RAM is a better indicator.
The reason you only gain 50 MB when you kill all apps is because only 50 MB will be actually in use by apps and all remaining unused space is used for caching things. If your phone is slow, this is not the cause of it. You may just have a slow phone or the ROM might be slow for some (other) reason.

yeah only 50mb is used to keep the apps running, but it probably takes up a whole lot more when using the apps, and this is a problem for me that it is slow to change between apps, and when I do change between the for example if I wanna text some one back while using a browser, once i turn the browser back on it restarts the page, and that didn't happen in my zte blade, unless I had some more apps running.
I wanna know what is using those 250+mb of ram!

see exchange service, any svn services n keep track of system usage. normally 100mb+ will be taken for ui, framework...etc.
but. eventhough u keep track of it,then slaughter it, it will come back to life n running, so i wouldnt recommend slaughtering system usage.
switching between app normally slow for full or stock rom. try find some debloated rom. it will be suitable for u if u wanna more free ram rather than liquidity.

I also observed some sluggishness after some time of usage. Sometimes the phone got totally unresponsive, not catching any push events (from buttons or screen), so that I couldn't even wake it after the screen timeout. I had to wait even few minutes before it was alive again.
Google Chrome was the most ram-eating app as far as I know.
Sometimes the best method is just restart your phone from time to time or even make a wipe - this is normal for all low-end android phones as they get sluggish after some time.
Long story short: I ended up buying a new phone with 2gb of RAM

I have the same issue
I'm using CM10.1 RC5, kernel 3.0.76-gc0a8d45 [email protected] #1
I have same symptoms pawci0 and ltkipras mentioned.
But I don't want to buy a new phone...
The lack of memory is noticeable when I run Waze or maps . It just opens for a couple of minutes and closes by itself or rather hangs the entire device.
What should I do? Go for the CM10.1 stable, try a different ROM (i.e. Slim). Change kernels?
nope, waze doesnt use that much ram, try to fix permission first n clear cache in recovery
n try to use other kernel, mine ok with multitask, rather heavy with online games n hearing mp3 n receiving whatsapp, line n we chat at da same time
n try greenify app to control app thats always running.

Just try a other rom or kernel you would be amazed how lets say a change of kernel can speed things up. The point is everyone uses their phone differently different apps and things so you need to find the rom that suits you mostly.

[Q] My bionic is slow!!

Hey All,
I'm having some issues with my bionic and thought I would see if anyone has any suggestions to speed it up. I have issues with it being super slow, taking a long to to respond, the touch screen response being slow, basically the whole phone is just slow and sluggish. It hasn't always been like this and I was wondering what I can do to speed it up. It's on JB 4.1.2, rooted, and stock. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Have you used App Quarantine or otherwise frozen any apps? There are several apps that are unneeded for daily operation, but run in the background anyway. Make sure to backup your phone before you freeze apps, in case you freeze a critical app that prevents the phone from operating!
In general, you're running too much crap in the background.
Settings / manage apps, and check "running". That's how many apps in memory. System tries to pre-cache apps and anticipate you, but it often gets it wrong. You can help it by removing apps you don't run, esp. from the "desktop".
If you have a mod rom or overclocking app like SetCPU, change governor to interactive will make it up-clock more readily, but may decrease battery life (slightly).
is there anything in the way of TRIM support for the bionic or is that not needed?
I did a factory reset and it helped a lot.

look for the app in the play store called "LagFix (fstrim) Free", instead of enabling TRIM support in the kernel, this will run the process for you on the /data and /cache partitions. I ran it about a week ago after i uninstalled 20 apps i dont use any more, and to be honestly my phone feels awesome and fast as hell since then. worth a shot if you're rooted considering it's 100% free.
Just make sure & read the app description, it may take a while for it to run if it's the first time you're running it...

I get a TRIM is not supported message when I run it.
I'm running the LIquidSmooth rom so that's probably why.
I have been running the Avatar ROM for a couple of weeks with pretty decent speed and setCPU on interactive as proposed above.

Honor 5c - RAM problem

I have my phone for about 3 months (i think) and it was working perfectly. Smooth, without any problems. I was using it for some small games (CoC) and social media (Snapchat, YouTube, Facebook). Well, it WAS working perfectly. Everytime I was clearing RAM (closing apps) it was showing that about 800-950MB of RAM were free. Now, after updating to Android 7.0 it changed. It shows about 300-400MB of RAM is free (without any app opened). I am also lagging as hell (specially in Snapchat - it freezes almost completly). I was trying to clear it anyway possoble, uninstalling apps, using stock File Manager trying to optimize system. It didn't worked.... Does anyone has similar problem and/or has some solution? Thanks...
(My first post here, don't kill me if I made some mistake, and also don't judge my English. I am from Poland )
tbh, for me android i did opposite. more ram free and 5% increase in antutu score.

More free RAM doesn't mean more performance. It's a bad habit to clear your RAM. Apps that killed will just come back and more hungry for RAM. Continuously doing this will put strain in the CPU and thus, will drain more battery.
Sent from my Honor 8 using XDA Labs
I recommend uninstalling bloatware and keep minimal number of apps . This will save more ram and more juice . Dont use any task killers as they are themselves battery havvoks
