Hey Guys,
So I really wanna try new CM 11 but I'm not sure whether or not I will be able to restore data from nandroid backup i did on my current rom (I'm using MIUIv5). And just to be sure updating CWM doesn't wipe data?
thanks if you can help me!

Miui v5 is a lower Android version not based on CM. If you restore the data of the backup you will most likely end up in a bootloop or get constant force closes of all apps.
If you update CWM nothing will happen to the ROM/data on your device.

Hi All,
I'm currently on CyanogenMod 10 by ivendor - Beta 4 and I want to flash to CyanogenMod 10.1 Beta by Xistance.
Am I correct that I can flash CM10.1 without a data wipe, so only by wiping cache and dalvic cache?
I spent quite a lot of time by installing apps and setting preferences the way I want them to be so it would be great if all that could be conserved.
It works perfectly when going from one CM10 version to another, so I presume that this will also be the case when going from CM10 to CM10.1?
Thanks

Ok, I gave it a test myself after a backup and everything seems to work fine.
All apps, settings etc. are conseved and everything works well
Good to know, will soon move also from cm10 to cm10.1. But why did the developer always recommend to wipe also data, comming from a different ROM?

Without a backup for apps...you will lose that personal data.....
Changing is just make a complete wipe from the cwm.....you have not mentioned about if you have root access....hold volume down and power button simultaneously.....in the cwm make all wipes...format system....then flash the new one...download the required ROM from the dev section
That is it....
When you are entering the cwm menu...check if there is a grey or pink lg logo...pink is the new boot loader...use only the versions compatible for this loader....
Try to use search...you will find more answers my friend

Since I am new to this forum, I was not allowed to post in the dedicated section of this ROM by Pengus.
After almost bricking the phone, 4 days ago, I finally could install this ROM from famous Pengus.
But it keeps crashing randomly, not responding in any way, only removing the battery starts the phone again. The kernel is the latest 100p5 from Kowalski. I especially installed this ROM and Kernel for it's proven robustness.
I logged the data with the app Status Log, maybe someone, maybe Pengus himself?, can have a look at them and come up with a suggestion?
Before this ROM I used the DjangoManouche 1.6x and it never crashed, and it's based on Kowalski kernel as well.
Thanks in advance for all your great work here.:good:
You should not use that kernel version, its too old and doesn't work weel with the recent ROMs!! Use the latest nightly, kk 125..
And dont forget to wipe cache and dalvik.

please wipe all your system and data first, because you're from other ROM. and do backup your user data with backup apps ex titanium backup (i usually did backup with that), and don't backup system data if you using titanium, just use XML backup for backup contacts, phone, sms, and wifi access point.

Done it all, full wipe, formatted, the whole shebang. That's not the issue here, I am not a developer, but the problem should be in the log-files.
Some other problem, with an app or Kernel?

I'll try that and will let you know if the problem persists...THANKS!!
The problem is the kernel. As simples as that. That ROM is not supposed to work with such an old kernel. Flash the latest nightly and everything will be ok.
EDIT: I've only seen you're latest post after already published this one, sorry

It´s a bit better with the latest Kernel from Kowalski #125, this time it took more than 2 days for a total crash! Had to remove the battery again to get it starting. Am I the only one with crashes randomly?
Maybe someone can help out with the log-files or tell me how to interpret them?
Thanks guys for all the help!:good:
Hi all,
I am currently using CM10.2. I am happy with it, but I might need MHL for somehow. Can I flash back and fore between CM10.2 to Stock without wipe my cache and data and I get
1, stable enough to run on both ROM
2, Personal data still good(still keeping like whatsapp history, contact data etc)
I am not brave enough to test by myself, hope anyone can help. Thanks

You can try it but you will for sure get a bootloop, especially with stock and custom rom. This way you are maybe able to change between custom ROMs with same android version, but stock is older than CM 10.2.

What you mean of bootloop is that you can't even make the device running without wipe?? Hey man, If I have the guts to try I will not ask. Haha..=)
Thanks anyways..

That's what I meant the differences between android version are to big and especially if you have a stock and a custom rom. Too many files/file paths are different and your system will screw up. It will boot, show the LG logo and reboot. That's why every single custom rom thread has the wipe part in it's instructions.
Like I said you can try it but I see no chance. I did it once between two custom ROMs (both CM 10.1) and even that didn't work out good.
It booted but every single app and system itself force closed repeatedly.

Hi,
I have a simple question: I'm running a nightly of the unoffical CM11 build on my phone. Are there issues to be expected when switching to the official CM11 nightlies?
Do I have to wipe everything or should that work without major problems? Does someone have any experience with that?

In order to avoid any complications make a Backup of all your data, make a nondorid back up in cwm/twrp and do a clean install.
Happy Flashing.

Well, thinking about it, that makes sense no matter what upgrade I perform .
