ok, my prob is that after dl each one of the rooting tools that I've found here and elswhere, installing them on my sd card/ reboot in reco/ select install from sd/ click OK I get install complete.:victory: BUT!!! On the bottom of the screen I find
" Appling Multi CSC - Can't get access to /System/CSC/SFR/ System"
When I reboot I find the superuser logo in my Apps, but Root Checker tells me "Sorry your phone's not rooted"
I need to unlock the beast.
I've been at this for 4 days now, read everything I can find, tried everything I've found, my eyes are bloodshot and the seat's starting to fuse into my
behind!
Anyone got an idea?

I don't know about xwkt8, but maybe that version is fullfil the system rom(system partition) until there is no space for root...
Try another version of gingerbread...

Thanks for the reply Gilang, I've tried every version that I've found and given that I've done a factory reset and emptied all the caches I can find
there should be room, but I will look into that. Thing is, if you're right, how to make room?

P.S. Checking int mem find 94.5 m free, is that enough? SFR apps seem to take up about 45m but can't touch them.

It got to the part where it said "rebooting into CWM" then the program said "no device connected" and now the phone is stuck at the LG screen.
I did a few battery pulls and it still just hangs at the LG screen. even went into the factory recovery and told it to wipe all data. still gets stuck at LG screen
my phone has the VZ9 firmware.

when unrooting will this remove *ALL* files from /system/xbin? Or what all exactly does the unroot process remove besides superuser.apk and busybox?
I guess what I am wondering if once unrooted will it look completely stock? Or will a trained eye be able to spot that it was once rooted?

Can't Root Samsung Galaxy Ace 2.3.6 XWKT4

Hi i tryed all the ways to root my Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830), SuperOneClick, upd_1.zip
I get the superuser application on it but doesn't give me root acces, so its still not rooted,
All applications that requires rooted phone don't work, super user doesn't show any allow
notifications, has no apps in its list when i open it, tryed modifing settings in it still no succes....
Model Number: GT-S5830
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: S5830XWKT4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-perf-CL965213 [email protected] #1
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.HRKT2
I googled a lot, tryed a lot, no succes, please help!
EDIT:
I did it!
I know this is an old Thread but I wanted to post that I did and how I did it: The problem was because of my stock rom limited space so I used thinkdroid.apk_removal.zip to remove thinkdroid from device and free space for full super user installation was now there, and afther the thinkdroid.apk every root atempt worked flawlesly.
The problem was because of the Hugo Boss Rom that had a limited internal memory, ow and I needed to delete everything on internal memory, so if someone is having the same problem:
1 factory reset
2 from recovery flash thinkdroid removal
3 flash root_upd1 (or any root zip for sga)
done
Can u uninstall the superuser app?

I did exactly like in the tutorials, I copied the root.zip to sd card, putted device in recovery mod, update from sd card, reboot, got super user on device but, no root acces, so i "unrooted" my device, to delete the unworking superuser, how do i make it work ? please help... In the tutorials there is nothing sayed about flashing( I don't know well this term I think it means installing operating sistem on device) I don't want to flash a nother operating sistem version of android, I just want to root my device. Make the superuser work, grant root acces for applications...
Video example of what i did [update data from sdcard] : youtube video /watch?v=rUSn0E_dWMg (and unrooted and tryed a lot of diferent root.zip files none worked... unrooted and wiped to factory settings after every fail...)

SO i need to flash cfroot kernel, afther that the superuser app will work fine, my device will have ropot acces, and apps that needs root acces will work? can i flash a cfroot kernel via recovery mod/ update from sdcard ?
1. Backup everything on your device
2. Do a factory reset
3. Apply upd_1.zip (for Gingerbread 2.3.5, 2.3.6, attachment)
4. Put all your files back.
Do not extract the zip file! Just select the .zip file from your SD card.
Tested: Galaxy Ace - 2.3.5 Stock

Do factory reset.
Don't install anything on the internal memory.
If you have any app that requires root access, delete them (ex: ROM Manager, Superuser etc.)
2 options:
Try the .zip file again
or
Use SuperOneClick ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 )
If you use SuperOneClick make sure you follow the steps.
You NEED to put your phone on USB Debugging mode
You NEED to install make sure the Android drivers for your phone are installed
Make sure you DO NOT mount your SD card.
If you still can't get something to run, try doing it in recovery mode.

Try to flash a 2.3.5 Stock. Most phones have 2.3.5 pre-installed. Install a ROM like CyanogenMod to get 2.3.7 and extra features when you are done rooting.
Get a 2.3.5 ROM at samfirmware.com
You need to register and all the .zip files have a password (pass: samfirmware.com)
EDIT: Backup everything from your SD card and format it. Put it back and try again.

[Q] chainfire GB root...§ not #

Hi, need a little help.
After rooting with chainfire and upgraging ROM and Kernal, to original release
Found after using "Android terminal emulator"
That prompt was doller sign, where root is...#
Tried using the "gparted" command and was told I did not have superuser granted-
Despite having the superuser app' installed.
I realise this root method involves a temporary recovery, and so assume root is only on the PDA, and CSC.
Q: How can I get full root access to the whole device?
Can I do this using a permanent recovery, as provided by Philz mod on ICS?
Many thanks,
yeah.. if you install philz kernel on ICS it gives you full root.. but on the emulator its still $.. yse the "su" command and you should get #

Many thanks, I have tried "su" on my device terminal and got root...#.
Duno why didn't try before? Tried "user" "uid" etc?
Still can't get a partion table, or access to the phone rom!
So what exactly would be the difference if I flashed the ICS and Philz mod??
Thanks for your time.
no difference, I thought you had partial root.

So did I untill you adviced switching to su,
Now I have a root terminal, but expected to find PIT files, and also some reference to the "phone rom"
I can see the PDA directories, and files for the CSC directory & boot.
But I understand there are 4 partions-
Phone
Pda
Csc
Boot
????
hmmm. If you go to the thread by hg42 about pit partitioning, you can see all the data about how the usb storage is partitioned
Thanks for the tip- plentyo reading to do.
Many thanks

Thanks mate,
Looks like some handy info through "hg42".
Obviously a very tricky subject, will take time reading- before acting.
One thing is, at least I can now see that I do have the partions, through root browser,
Just didn't know the labels!
So it appears I have full root, so am happy now to continue- exsperimenting.
As noobie got a lot to read/learn.
Thanks again- will be quiet now, for a bit

Hi All - very new to the forum an very new to Android. I have SGS I9070 DDLK2 (i am from India). Airtel is the provider.
I have been going thru the forum and tried to root the SGS, with the method in the below link:
h t t p: / / techdraginfo . blogspot . com / 2012 / 10 / how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-s-advance
After that i installed the SU and Busybox from Google Play, but on my SU log's it reads - Binary outdated? i tap to update the update being, get error "no root access".. the busybox too i am unable to install (symfile is selected) its gives error "boot recovery" and the install fails. BUT i have both SU and Busybox in my application list? Is my phone rooted ?
I do not want to upgrade to JB, need GB only. as the software that i have will work only on 4.0.x... i need help from the forum to guide me on how to gain complete root access on I9070 with BG as OS... I am very novice at all this - was able to root as there were screen shots in the link that i used for rooting my SGS I9070.
Would appreciate your help... pls pls

Would appreciate your help... pls pls

Download your stock firmware from www.sammobile.com/firmware or http://samsung-updates.com/tag/firmware/ and attach me kernel.bin.md5 from that file. I will repack it for step 10. You can post that on that thread for rooting, maybe someone else needs it. And it will be easier to find there, then here on this one.

Just that. After that you will repeat all from that guide for rooting. And by this method you increase binary counter. Triangle away can reset it now for our phone.

Thank you soooo much. I really appreciate your help.. one last thing, let me know if the below steps are correct:
i will follow the link that you gave me to root
will download GT-I9070-root.rar, will extract ODIN
will enable USB debugging and mock location on the phone
turn off the phone and put it on download mode
Under PIT file browse for GT-I9070_EUR_XX_8G_20111220_KL6.pit, you have extracted this file before.
Under PDA choos rootkernel.tar.md5
Then check what options are checked (Selected), be sure to UNCHECK (remove selction) Re-Partition, Flash Lock, Phone EFS Clear, Phone Bootloader Update! Only Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time should be checked (Selected)
When this is set just press Start and wait for phone to reboot
Now repeat steps from 4 to 9, with one exception at step 7 I will CHOOSE THE FILE THAT YOU REPACKED FOR ME....
let the phone boot
Install SU / Busybox and Traingle away....
and i will be done - pls let me know.... :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

I think you even do not need to use pit file. Yes, that is it. And install Superuser, no SuperSU. I think we had problems with SuperSU, and Superuser worked fine.
Op : so you mail me, i give you the method and you make a new thread? I mean what the fcuk?

I use SuperSU on JB now, but on GB I didn't have root access when I used it (didn't work at all). No need to change.
LOL, you can easy find it. Here.
Need to uninstall first SuperSU.
Huh, thinking I use an wrong application , but from what I read, chainfire (SuperSU) update released more than chainsDD tuned, and that's why I asked more details about that.
Here what i read: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704441

So now everything works fine? Install app superuser from play store, open it and find in options update binary. You will have it I think when you go in left once.

Gapps/Setup Wizard keeps crashing

Hi! I made some questions in another thread because I thought it was related, but now I think it's not.
The story begins with me (I know now how stupid I was) playing with Swapper2 and other Swapper apps trying to improbe the phone performance. After unninstalling Swapper2 my phone kinda crashed, so I decided to restore a backup I was made 2 days ago from CWM recovery just in case. worth saying I was running an unbranded 4.1.2 version downloaded from sammobile.
When I restored and the phone booted i found surprisingly the Setup Wizard screen, so I freaked out and tried to restore again with same results. Since then, i tried tons of different things, most of them suggested by @shut_down he was really kind and helpfull:
-obviously flashing stock ROM from sammobile again, but the problem persist.
-install CM 10, CM10.2 with corresponding gapps (doesn't even boot, phone gets stuck in the pretty CM loading screen)
-install Harsh Jelly:
1) it worked without gapps, and then tried to restore my backup but the same result again
2) installing gapps in Harsh Jelly makes it crash, like the others.
In short: in every case, the gapps crash and the Setup Wizard restart.
as additional info, i don't know if it's related, the CWM recovery log shows this every time i check it.
I: Can't format unknow volume: /external_sd
I: Can't partition unsafe device: /dev/block/mmcblk0p8
my guess is: could it be that mmcblk0p8 is the partition where gapps are saved and it is corrupted or something and thats why I'm unable to make them work?
I'm deeply grateful. ♥♥
PS: feel free to correct my english, it's not my native language, sorry. ♥
mmcblk0p8 is internal sdcard I don't know if it's related
I see you made some error: watch out which gapps you flash: 4.1, 4.2, 4.3.. Wrong version will crash and you don't need to flash them on stock based rom
Problem is in /data partition: you could solve by deleting secsetupwizard.apk and setupwizard.apk but how? 1) try booting your phone in safe mode (there's a guide in this section) and then delete them using some app such as root browser, if you can't boot in safe mode try adb

at first i didn't install gapps in Harsh Jelly, the phone booted correctly but there were not gapps at all! it was then when i tried to install them from CWM. Yes I installed the right ones (4.1.x) 20121011 from goo.im/gapps. and then they crashed.
also, as I said before, when I restore (in CWM) my backup of a stock unbranded ROM (from sammobile) the gapps and SWizard also crash, and I'm not installing any gapps.
I'll try that but I have a question, will this solve my problem permanently or it will make my phone functional just for this rom now?
booting in safe mode also starts setup wizard, and also crashes.
Well, I decided to start all over again. I downgraded to GB, I flashed with odin a 2.3.6 unbranded ROM downloaded from sammobile. The phone boots, gapps and setup wizard don't crash BUT the signal comes and goes, I checked the baseband and it says: XXXX
I don't know if I should try to solve this now, or continue with flashing with odin a 4.1.2 ROM from sammobile.
Which firmware did you flash?? Try the one from your country

I flashed the one from my country, off course. (Argentina)
I found 2 possible ways to fix it, I'll try to fix it from terminal, i need someone else from my country to give me his modemfs.img.md5
the other way is clearing EFS in odin, but sounds too risky for me.
After solving this I'll keep trying to uptdate to 4.1.2
Thanks.
I am not sure what happend to you with that IMEI. Try to flash JB.
And why did you install gapps on Harsh Jelly? That ROM had its own google apps. You probably flashed gapps for wrong android version. You can't use 4.2.2 gapps on 4.1.2 for example.

I repeat: at first I didnt flash any gapps, because it doesn't need it, but GAPPS WEREN'T THERE! I swear! no market, no gmail, maps or anything. so, I decided to try installing them, I'm sure I installed 4.1.2 (the right ones) just to try, and then gapps and Setup Wizard crashed again.
I solved it
ok, I solved a few things here, I'll try to detail every step I did for the record.
I downgraded to 2.3.6 with 3 files, CSC, PIT and PDA,(with re-partition box checked). there my gapps worked ok, but my baseband was XXXX and I had not 2g or 3g. I fixed the baseband following this steps:
-------------------
(parenthesis) i had to root 2.3.6 first following this steps: (as example) http://techdraginfo.blogspot.com/2012/10/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-s-advance.html
then install terminal.
then get the modemfs.img.md5 from a friend with the same phone.
I uploaded that file to my googledrive, I link it here just in case (warning, it is from company: Claro, Argentina, UBLD1)
goo.gl/DzAjza
------------------
I've flashed modemfs.img.md5 now 3G is working.
On another device (same model and region) I did:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 of=/sdcard/modemfs.img.md5
Copied generated file to my sdcard and did:
dd if=/sdcard/modemfs.img.md5 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Reboot and it's done.

(i don't know if there is any relation between my previous problem and baseband, but still... )
then, i upgraded to an unbranded 4.1.2 downloaded from sammobile with odin, and everything worked properly.
(note: I followed the downgrade then upgrade steps before but the problem persisted, the only difference this time was the fix of the baseband, thats why I THINK it was related in some way)
Now everything worked again, I installed CWM from stock 4.1.2 recovery, then restored my previous backup.

CongratulationThat You Have Solved Your Problem , I am Facing Exact Same Problem
My Setup wizard crash , gapps stopped, harshjelly works without gapps, every thing is same
Only difference is after downgrading to GB i can see my baseband , imei and i have network
I can understand one thing it has something to do with my efs folder , which" failed to mount", as it can be seen in recovery .
The file given by your friend must contain efs , and i think after flashing that file your imei number might be changed , just confirm that your imei number and your friends imei number is different and if it is same then remove file given by you from google drive immidiately or many people might get same imei number, and you still have your original imei number different from your friend please let me know so i can flash this file ,
Never share your imei number . Thanks in advance.

1. You can't go back to GB just like that, there is a guide on our phone section for downgrading.
2. How did you try to install CWM?
3. Flash JB with Odin and see what happens.
4. Search. And read.

do what @shut_down said, notice that to downgrade I followed a downgrade tutorial and also checked the re-format partitions box in Odin (you need additional files to do that).
good luck!
